Lennox thought life would be easier when she started Obsidian Cove Supernatural Academy. All she has to do is learn about who she is, make new friends, and spend time with her sexy boyfriends, right? This is her chance at a new life.

Of course, nothing is ever that simple.

Between intense training sessions, navigating her new life, and fear of Doc and his underlings looming over her, she’s having a hard time adjusting. Not to mention, she still feels out of place, even among her own kind.

Life isn’t all bad, though. A surly instructor takes her under his wing and helps her develop the confidence she desperately needs, both in herself and her powers.

Thankfully, her and her guys will be spending the quarterly break with Lachlan and his pack. Finding out what it means to be a Bear and learning everything she can about her copper haired cutie.

Instead of the friendly gathering she had expected, she has to spend her time proving herself to an unaccepting pack and protective parents. If that wasn’t enough, she learns that her past is woven even deeper into her life than she ever thought possible, even here.

When everything finally seems to be settling into place, the rug is pulled out from under her once again. Can her and her guys survive the chaos that seems to follow them, or is her past too dark and dangerous for them to keep moving forward?

This book is a reverse harem romance that contains mm elements and is intended for readers 18 and up. There are some situations in this book that may be triggering for some readers.

As a mimic Lennox can assume the powers of those she meets. While an extremely useful talent, her rare supernatural abilities are coveted. It’s no surprise there’s an evil group out to study her. They’ve already caught her once and even going to a supernatural school does nothing to stop them. Honestly kinda feels like the world is against them at this point and of course they are attacked in the end leaving us with a minor cliffy and one of her guys’ lives hang in the balance. Another super quick read but things seemed to steady out more in this book as Lennox not only bonds more with her mates but learns all the crazy awesome shit she can do!

I get more into Lennox's story with each book and this is still the beginning. Little details are quickly coming together but I can tell so much more is to come. I truly adore these characters, their interactions, and the steam. I wish I had a little family like them. On to book 3!

Great follow up.

Really great follow up story. Loved the character development of her mates and learning about their families. Still, deceit abounds and an unexpected twist will take them deeper into learning about her origins and why doc wants her.

These books (the 1.5 that I read at least) need a freaking continuity editor. STAT!! Beyond that, they're just kind of dull. Everything is just breezed through in a few pages. There's a problem? Fixed in a couple pages. There's no development of relationships, BAM they're all together and in love. Action scene? Boom 💥 not anymore there isn't.

This story is getting old. Seriously how do people not see the typos and grammar mistakes. Also this book has no sense of timing other then the chapters having dates. How corrupt can one group be? I’m seriously considering not finishing the series. Yes it is RH but it no burn and the plot is too crazy.

I wanted to like this book, but it has some problems.

There’s some problems with this book. I wanted to give the author a shot as the first book in the series was her first novel and I like supporting new authors. Some of the issues are with the technical aspects of writing and some are with the characters and story.

The author is not good at creating tension and letting it build, which makes the suspense and fight scenes seem flat and unimportant. We get longer and more detailed descriptions of off the shoulder sweaters than we do of the life and death fight that should change the course of everyone’s lives. I checked, the description of a dress worn as a wedding guest was almost as long as the life or death, world changing fight scene. It makes the scenes where there’s supposed to be a lot of emotional punch fall flat, and it makes it harder to care about the main character or their journey. I got the impression the author isn’t comfortable with conflict personally which lead to struggles writing it well. You have to have a good conflict > tension > resolution arc to make a satisfying scene and the rush to get to everyone agreeing and happy again takes away from the fun of the process. It made what could have been very moving and touching scenes feel like the flavor text of a recipe blog.

The FMC never really deals with emotional upset even when awful things are happening, it’s a mad rush to her being comforted by all her guys then tonaly discordant sex scenes then it’s all swept under the rug.

Similarly the sex scenes don’t have good tension building or build up and seem forced and flat- like a scene where the FMC is recovering from a near death wound and decides to get horny so it’s time for shower sex- it wouldn’t have taken much to turn that into a powerful scene but the transition was just off and it felt stilted, unrealistic and kind of boring- which is the opposite of what a sex scene should do.

She also does just some stupid stuff- she’s saved from an evil lair and has a USB drive of information the bad guy obviously tried to destroy but instead of handing it over to law enforcement, the dean she kind of trusts, making copies and giving it to her new friends, sending it to super news outlets she… keeps it in her pocket and stresses?

The FMC and all her guys agree on everything and think the same course of action is the wisest- which does not happen in real life. It would have been nice if, say, two of the guys wanted to take the USB to the press, one wanted to copy and send it to parents, one wanted to trust the dean but one didn’t trust him. Basically everyone is smart and wants the same end goal but disagrees how to get there, they try to convince the FMC their way is best but support her in whatever she chooses- a much more realistic and interesting dynamic that would enrich the MC’s personalities.

The development of the relationships with the male protagonists is also… not great. I like reverse harem books because I’m poly and have been in a LOT of plural/poly relationships for the last… 30 years. So reverse harem romance novels are the closest to my real life experience I find in books. Let’s just say that falling in love with everyone in an established polycule at the same rate with ZER0 jealousy is not just an impossible thing but it takes away from the actual building and development of each of the individual relationships. The guys feel interchangeable and like they don’t have solid identities. Sure they have different looks and powers but their personalities are about the same and their interactions with the FMC are similar enough that it’s just… not satisfying to read.

I think the author has some good world building and ideas and there was enough good here to have me read two books to give it a solid chance. However the complete lack of tension or conflict building in the story made it feel like a dish with no salt or vinegar in it- it was sort of flat and flavorless, and some healthy conflict could have made the relationships feel more real, special and interesting- even something as small as one guy is a background music person, one guy can’t relax unless it’s quiet and when they move into the shared dorm room they have to communicate and compromise. One can’t sleep without a fan on and one can’t sleep with a draft- both are conflicts I’ve had in my relationships and overcoming them and communicating through them made the relationship stronger.

Poor pacing, tension building and release and not enough research on what poly relationships are actually like made this a disappointing read, but I think Jarica has talent as an author and this WAS an early novel, there’s enough here she should be proud of herself and I might read a later book of theirs to see if they grow in their craft. A lot of writers struggle with tension and positive conflict in their early writing so I’m rooting for Jerica, which is why I wrote this review instead of just moving on because she has enough good ideas I want to see her grow as an author.

Roller coaster

This story is all over the place. I feel like most of this book had very little to do with the plot. Maybe it was an attempt at character growth and relationship building? There's a very small entertainment value to the story, which tells me it has potential. It's just so poorly executed!

Lennie is just so bipolar that I want to slap her! One minute she's sure of herself and her relationships, and the next she's questioning herself and her relationships. One second she's showing a backbone, and the next she's melting down and needing her guys to reassure her about how awesome she is. The whole dual personality is driving me insane. I want to like her, but she's just so cringe inducing!
The guys are ok other than being over the top with her. I do feel like the sexy times aren't evenly distributed between the guys. It definitely seems that she has favorites.
Things that bugged me:
1- What is up with not wanting to see what's on the USB? I know the author was trying to drag that whole thing out, but it made no sense. Lennie knew she was a test subject because she was kidnapped, tested, and tortured! Why would she hold off on the information or act shocked? Absolutely ridiculous!
2- Why do authors nowadays always have to bring race and sexual preferences into their stories? Do we not get enough of that crap on the news every day? Lennie's friend, I can't remember her name, comes from a group that wants racial purity and arranges marriages to ensure proper breeding. Then, we get to Lachlan's bear pack, and they want racial purity. While they don't arrange marriages, they are anti same sex relationships because same sex relationships can't breed. The supernatural world thinks humans are awful, but they aren't any better! This, supposedly, after everyone tells Lennie that poly amorous relationships are normal in their world.
3- Why would the dean all of a sudden not listen to them or believe them? Is this him trying to pretend because he's "under cover" trying to infiltrate the regency? I mean men came into the assembly and Lennie had to escape. The dean didn't see anything off about it all?
4- Why is Lennie like every girl in a horror movie who just HAS to go out and check on things? She's seriously an imbecile, and it isn't the first time. In the last book she wanted to run back into the complex she was taken to when kidnapped, to "save" some little girl she had never met and didn't know if she was there. That was without having much training and not knowing how to do much of anything... What did she think she'd be able to do? So in this book she has to run from the assembly and hide, but then she can't stand waiting anymore and decides to run back out there to check on her guys? What did she think would happen if the military guys were still there? Like I said, she's stupid!

Anyway, there is just a tiny part of me that wants to see what happens. Like I said, the story has potential, it's just very poorly written.

This is the second book of the Obsidian Cove Supernatural Academy series, and continues the journey of Lennox and her mates; Tristan, Aeson, Calev, Evander and Lachlan. Lennox, Tristan and Aeson have survived their kidnapping by the mysterious and dangerous, Doc and have begun classes at the academy. Lachlan has invited the group to visit his home and his clan during their 2 week quarter break. However, they are not met with open arms and acceptance as Lachlan had hoped. Doc rears his ugly head again and Lennox and her men have to fight for their lives while protecting Lachlan’s clan. They return to campus to find that not all is well in those hallowed halls and one of her guys may be in real trouble.

I liked this book well enough, although I liked the first book better. It seems like Lennox is constantly fainting or so exhausted she practically falls asleep standing up. It seems to me that at some point at least one of her guys would wake up and wonder if she’s worth it, but that’s just me. They weren’t greeted with hugs and kisses by Lachlan’s parents, but surely they can’t be surprised by this, right? Wrong. Lennox gets her panties in a wad and can’t for the life of her understand why there’s all this “hype” about their relationship, as it’s no one’s business. Well, I would say that a polyamorous relationship with 5 guys (2 of whom are in a sexual relationship themselves) and 1 girl is NOT a normal thing and prolly worthy of a little “hype.” If you can’t understand that then you’re an idiot. I mean, seriously, what mother wants that for her son? Even if he says he’s happy? Of course this was going to be an uphill battle and one that may never be resolved to your liking. If you’re going to be in such an unconventional relationship, you better be prepared for some odd looks and questions.

Look, I’m not saying that people can’t live unconventional lives or deserve ridicule because of that. But don’t be surprised when “traditional” people balk at it. For me, as a reader, it made me not find her as sympathetic a character as I did in the first book. She did redeem herself a bit with her interaction with Colt, the little bear shifter cub. One thing I did appreciate in this RH situation is that the erotic scenes weren’t always her with all the guys at the same time. To my mind, a harem is multiple partners - individually- not necessarily all at the same time. Sure, I can imagine that sometimes things get heated and everyone gets in on the action. But more often than not, it’s that she has a loving relationship with 5 guys, but is “with” them individually. Other than her time with Tristan and Aeson (the bisexual couple) there was only one other scene that was a ménage. Otherwise, the guys take turns sleeping with her at night or for other amorous activities.

I do like the overarching storyline, so I would still recommend this series even though I thought this book was just OK.

Supernaturals/RH MMMMM/Siren-Mimic

SYNOPSIS (of 5 Books Series): This series is set in the modern world where the supernaturals try to live separate to the humans. The FC (Lennox) does not know she is a supernatural but finds out when the MCs (Bear, Psychic, Mage, Vampire & Gargoyle) are sent to find her because she is an undocumented shifter. The story arcs over the FC finding out who and what she is and where she came from, her relationship with each MC and trying to evade and bring down the people who are stealing people and experimenting on making powerful hybrid shifters. There is a HEA

This is an enjoyable enough series and decently written and edited with a few typing and spelling issues but not enough to really impact the reader. The world, relationship and character building is good and gives depth to the story and the individual characters. There’s a decent enough amount of action to keep the books moving and the sex scenes are not over the top or too plentiful but are relatively hot 🌶️🌶️. There’s MM action as well as FM action. The MCs themselves are pretty vanilla in their behaviour and interactions. None of them came across as particularly strong, possessive or alpha.

This story is not remotely original with the FC not knowing she is a supernatural, experiments being done on supernaturals and a corrupt governing body. If you can accept that it is an OK read with some action and HEA. It is also another one of those books where the villains are depicted as evil and do terrible things but the “Good Guys” refuse to kill or really punish them because that would be wrong 🙄

One of my biggest issues with stories like this is where the author makes the FC really powerful and yet they always get their asses kicked by the villains. This series is a classic for that and it is nonsensical and frustrating. Despite the fact that the FC has been training and can use multiple powers she is always taken down by lesser supernaturals and doesn’t seem able or willing to fight back. There are also several situations where the villains could be killed or taken down but aren’t which just seems a ridiculous plot method to keep the story dragging out. Much of the story doesn’t really make sense either with the villain seeming to evolve and there are gaps left in the story - such as what happened to the various regional councils after they were investigated? Were the academies improved and the corruption stamped out? Why did the FC not really acknowledge her Siren side?

In conclusion I found this readable but not a keeper or a series that really grabbed my attention. I skimmed quite a bit as the books progressed.

4.5 out of 5 stars

I love this harem and Lennox together. They work so well together to protect, care, and love each other so deeply. I do wish the author would remind us along the way how the characters look. She doesn’t really mention much beyond the first book at the beginning and it needs to be put in again in parts for the reader to remember how all the male members are different from each other.

Lennox is such an empowering female character. As she comes into her powers, learns to wield them, and use them to protect others, herself, and her mates, it’s inspiring and uplifting to have such a strong female protagonist. Her protecting the loved ones of her mates, the beat alpha, who disapprove of the relationship dynamic between all of them speaks to how her love extends to those her mate’s love in turn.

Cole is such a cute and interesting side character and ends up helping Lennox find out more about her own history, along with the flash drive. It was great how he singled Lennox out as someone that would protect him and he had something in common with, given he’s nonverbal, but has unique qualities of his own.

Here’s to Doc, his followers, and those of the Regency being brought to their knees for trying to rip apart Lennox and her men. I can’t wait to see how the author brings about their downfall.

For some reason my review won’t stick, this is the 3rd time I’ve reviewed this. I usually spend a good 15 mins writing a review, but I won’t do that again for this book. The gist, the author impressed me with the hurdles the main characters faced and leaked over it, including the kidnapping of the fmc and 2 male leads from the ending of the first book, and this one concluded it. They got out. Went to school, the Dean was very much on her side and did so much to protect her, from attempts at kidnapping while doing his best to get trainers for her mimic magic. The end of this one was a guy protecting her from a Councilman that tried to kill her. He killed him, and as he did the deed, the Dean walked in thinking he murdered the councilman. Then took him away to jail for a Trial. Which is when Lennox sees an ear mic from the dead guy and speaks to the evil dr. This was a “legalized” kidnapping and she will only save her guy if she gives herself up. So essentially pretty pissed this author always seems to have kidnapping as her cliffy. Other than that good book. My previous reviews had way more detail and thoughts.

* 4.5 star review

"Path of the Bear" is the second book in the "Obsidian Cove Supernatural Academy" series, leading Lennox and her men to Lachlan's pack. I enjoyed getting to know more of this supernatural world, and the characters within. This world is filled with prejudice, and this second book only adds to that experience, but I completely stand behind the way Lennox and her men deal with it. They are becoming a true family in this book, and it was pleasant to watch their bonds grow.

The action and plot development is a little more balanced in this second book, compared to book one, and the same can be said for the relationship development. It helped me be more focussed on the storyline itself, and I really loved some of the action-filled scenes within this book. I especially loved the ending of this book, leading to what already feels like a great third book.

I'm happy I decided to continue this series.

There was a lot more relationship building and background in this book than the first and I am here for it. I am also shocked that I am yet to pick a favorite of the guys.

"Oh, Love," he whispered, shutting off the water and grabbing a towel. He wrapped me up in the fluffy warmth before sitting on the ground and pulling me into his lap. "You don't have to be strong all the time, and you don't have to break down alone."

We were together through everything. That's not baggage, that's family. But it seems you and I have very fucking different opinions on what family is.

Wow! What an emotional roller coaster! Just when you think Lennox is finally catching a break she’s hit again and again!
The bonds between Lennox and her guys is growing stronger by the day, but the challenges keep hitting left right and center could have the potential to destroy them piece by piece.
A great addition to the series! But what a cliff hanger ending!!! I need the next book already! I need answers!

I absolutely love Lennox and her guys. You'd think maybe they'd get a break, were do for some peace after escaping the island, but more adventures are coming their way. Lennox finds a way to handle the new trials thrown at her, makes a few new friends along the way, but she isn't done yet. I love how the characters grow together and become stronger the closer they get.. can't wait for the next book!

Pretty good

It was a bit confusing in regards to the steamy scenes. While there were quote a few of them, it was also implied that a lot had happened off page which is unusual for this genre. Typically, the first experience with each pove interest is on page, but that wasn't the case.
Overall, I mildly enjoyed the book but it does feel like it's missing something.
Maybe it's that most of the downtime is just steam?

non stop action

“I wasn't willing to be the girl who lied to her boyfriends until it all blew up in her face. If we were a team, then I would treat them like one.” Can we get a round of applause for the adult communication? Love Lennox, adore the guys (especially Dawes, Lennie deserves a good father figure). It may be 3am on a Thursday but after that cliffhanger I can’t wait to start book 3.

The tests keep coming...

I really enjoyed this second entry in the series. Lennox continues her development, both physical and in her powers, and her search for answers. She can't escape the ‘meet the parents’ moment with Lachlan though, and the drama is intense. There are more surprises in store as she continues to uncover more of her history, and I can't wait to see how they get out of the bind that cliffhanger left them in...

This book was filled with adventure and drama. Slightly disappointed how easily she gave in to the pack. They’re only accepting her because she now has a bear. Which means they never would’ve accepted her otherwise so it’s kind of ridiculous to accept forgiveness now. And wow, some characters were definitely missed loved. Can’t believe I liked someone turned out to be horrible person. Looking forward to the next one.

Path of the Bear

The story continues with Lennie and her 5 men. Really good read, had me snickering at what some of her guys get up to and needing to fan myself all the other times. Throw in some bad guys and a mother in law you want to throat punch and you get this easy to read page turner. I'm jumping to the next book as soon as I can.

Oh right in the feels.

NA. Paranormal. Academy. Rh. 5 guys. I'm feeling very paranoid after this one. I knew drama would insue but not in this package that's for sure. I really loved it, it's all twisty and turny. Excellent read.
