Three Women Disappear 4 ⭐ A quick and fun mystery.
The story is told from multiple perspectives; Sarah (Chef and wife of Det. Sean), Anna ("accountant"/mobster's wife), Serena (maid) and detective Sean. The accountant was found dead and it was partially a whodunit type of mystery. The format was a little strange at first as it started with interviews at a police station then after I get a hang of it I find this book entertaining.
Come and Get Us 2 ⭐ Almost DNF this one. Unbelievable plot.
When a central Florida mob accountant is brutally murdered in his home, the three women in his life -- his wife, personal chef and housekeeper -- have all disappeared. Are they victims or suspects? Making things more complicated, the personal chef is married to a police detective who has a reputation for being dirty. THREE WOMEN tells the story from each women's point of view.
Patterson has written with a new co-author for this book. I generally enjoy most of Patterson's books, but this one just didn't appeal to me.
Not one of my fav JP books. The story was ok and a decent ending, that I was starting to guess (but not all of it). I didn’t care for the lead characters much either. I think I was pleased to actually finish it and put it down.
Having vision issues right now I'm becoming an audiobook reader - and I am learning that audio books are not all created equal! This audio book is WELL DONE! The ensemble cast made this so easy to follow and interesting to listen to.
The book is fast paced as expected from James Patterson. Getting a bonus Book Shots novella from 2016, Come Get Us, was a bonus that was also interesting. When mobster Anthony Costello is found dead, the three women in his life are missing! HIs wife, Anna, his chef, Sarah and his housekeeper, Serena are all under investigation, Tony's uncle Vincent demands that Police Detective Sean Walsh find them first and figure out who is responsible for his nephew's death. The ladies are all very interesting characters and I found myself cheering them on.
Extremely disappointed in this book. Very easily predictable plot, pacing issues, and a failure to use great mob tropes. I was expecting an exciting cat and mouse chase between the three women and the mob family, but instead we low stake conversations around a dinner table. This book really lacked any creativity and couldn’t keep me as a reader guessing “what now?”
The bonus novel has some plot points that can only be explained by sheer adrenalin but at the same time the character is nearly dead. Unbelievable even for an action novel
Such a good storyline that kept me guessing. I love reading chapters from different characters point of views and the writing wasn’t too detailed but enough to get a good picture in my mind
Mob accountant Anthony Costello has been found dead, murdered, in his own home. The three women closest to him, Anna his wife, Sarah his chef and Serena his maid have all disappeared. All three had motive for wanting him dead, but until they are found nothing can be proven. Detective Sean Walsh has a personal connection to the case. Officially he isn't working it, but he's sure that he can find the women and get to the truth.
This was fairly standard for a JP book. It was an easy read, with the trademark short chapters that make it easy to keep turning pages. Not an awful lot happened though so as thrillers go it was fairly mundane. There was so much to work with here with the mob side of things, but that aspect of the story was definitely not used to full effect.
I didn't find any of the characters especially likeable or sympathetic, although the three women did start to grow on me as the book progressed. That wasn't enough to overcome the bland plot though.
Definitely not one of the best from the Patterson empire. The copy I read had a second shorter story in the book too by the same authors, I didn't bother reading though since the first one was disappointing.
This was a very quick read. the chapters are short and snappy. The plot, though, was unrealistic.
When a mob accountant is found dead, the police are called in to investigate. Unbelievably, the chef was none other than a wife of a corrupt police officer, ....oh, but we're not to know he's corrupt. so there us the mob's wife, the maid and the chef. After the murder these women all disappear but eventually are found.
Also in this book was a bonus story , Come and Get us. it started off quite exciting when a mother, father and child are pushed off the road by a vehicle and they end up in the bottom of a ravine. That part was really good but then it got stupid when the mother is hunted down by the would be killers but she in turn ends up killing them and saving her family. The end.
For a woman who has never shot a gun before, she did extraordinarily well to save her family but it was totally unrealistic.
I've given the book 2 stars because at times it was entertaining and it was easy to read but overall is a very forgettable book.
finished 11th august 202 good read three stars i liked it kindle library loaner have read many patterson stories many patterson/another stories. this one an entertaining story where the reader is asked to condone the murder of another by our three heroines. now i wonder, am i allowed to use the word "heroine" without incurring the wrath of the righteous? well fuck em all. but yes, we're asked to condone the murder of another and i imagine one could shelf this one under "frontier justice" as there's a reason for everything, nessy pa? amazing...how often the verse is ignored, blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. like so many children on the playground...where we never leave...and so it is so shall it always be apparently.
A nail biting page turner of a gangsters novel with a unexpected chain of events. Usually you would expect to read a novel from a gangsters or police point of view but this amazing story tells you a different ide of the story & events and you realise you can't trust who you think you can trust. The title is Three Women Disappear but OMG they come back and fight for the right to live & stand tall against the Gangster & Police combined. You get used to enjoying the style of an author but when another author sneaks in their input you can feel a different style but worked amazing for this story, loved it. Looking forward to reading the Book Insert Novel Come And Get Us.
This was my first experience with a James Patterson book, and I was disappointed. The premise was fine enough, and the genre range it covered is among my favorites, but I just found it lackluster in execution. It felt unnecessarily convoluted and disjointed for the sake of stretching out the whodunit portion of the novel, which culminated in an unsatisfying payoff and tonal shift. It also teased some emotional depth, but I never fully bought into it. I think it merited a three-star score in terms of quality, but I just didn't like this when it was all said and done, and I really wanted to. "It was ok" is the honest verdict. Here's hoping I find the next JP book more appealing.
Three women disappear 4 stars Come and get us 1 star
I listened to the playaway edition of Thee women Disappear.
So far I have finished Listing to Three women disappear. It was easy to understand what was going on. Towards the end of the book I could not stop listening because I had to find out happens. I liked the characters and liked that the story kept me wonder what was going to happen.
AS for come and get us I did not find interesting. I don't know if the it was that realistic either.
This can not possibly be a book sanctioned by James Patterson. The story line is ridiculous and absurd. Detectives that laugh at interviews with suspects that are obviously innocent and Detectives that want to frame someone regardless of whether they had anything to do with the crime is just a beginning of how this book assaults my senses. And I actually paid money to read this book. This will be the last one I assure you
I liked the story but wasn’t in love. It was slightly disappointing. I think it could of really been a great story as the blurb makes it sound so exciting.
There’s no real plot twist at all, and once you find out who kills Anthony you don’t need the extra 100 pages after as it is kind of pointless.
I like the 3 narratives, and I liked the questioning but once you find out who killed him it all goes a bit meh..
Not sure what to think of this book. At first look, it comes across as a possible thriller that will hopefully have a whole lot of drama and some edge-of-the-seat happenings. But this is not your usual Patterson mystery/thriller. I guess part of this could be due to the co-author. While having a different story than usual can be a good thing, I'm not sure that's the case for this book. An okay-ish read, but not something to go ga-ga over!
I've been reading so much non-fiction that I needed some fiction in my life to break it up. I think in some cases that this was a happy ending for the story. It was good and I liked the perspectives of the characters and how they interacted with the world that they were living in. And while yes, James Patterson is a bit controversial, he does write good mystery, and this is no different from his other work either.
Book Review: Three Women Disappear by James Patterson
Rating: 🌟🌟 Genre: Thriller Published: 10/26/20
Review: So this was my first James Patterson book and I have to say that I was not that impressed. For a thriller, I hoped to have my heart racing at times and not be able to guess the end. I think part of the reason I didn’t like this book is I don’t like mob stories. Never have and never will. So I will try another book by Patterson, but this one was a miss for me…
Nice plot with shifting narrators and perspectives to keep the reader engaged, although sometimes it was a bit confusing to tell who was talking about what, but that only furthers the case of having to really be paying attention. The ending was somewhat predictable but not entirely. Overall a good time passer.
Too jumpy for me. The title of each chapter tells you which character is speaking but it was still chaotic. A decent story was told but nothing great by any means. This book actually had a second novel after the first. THAT one was much better and flowed really well. Kept me more interested than the first.
