Alien Surgeon’s Seduction

Rate this book
She was his the moment she stepped aboard. He'll fight everyone, even the emperor himself, to keep her...

Like most Lathar, First Healer Isan K'Vass didn't expect to ever find his mate. The genetic plague that had ravaged their race meant they had no females, and his tainted bloodline meant he would be last in line for one of the rare human females. Or it should.

Until a human combat team boards the Veral’vias and he see's HER. Flame haired. Curvy. Dangerous. And all his, if the secrets in his blood don't tear them apart first...

Aliens should not be hot. At all. Not ever.

Shannon Taylor had one thing on her mind when she boarded the alien vessel. Her mission. But no plan survives first contact with the enemy and her rescue mission goes sideways quicker than a cat on a hot tin roof. Finding herself the prisoner of the Lathar, and one, hot as hades healer in particular, she needs to keep her wits about her if she's ever going to get herself the hell of this alien ship.

However, the Lathar aren't as bad as she'd been told and it's all she can do to remember that Isan, her sexy healer, is the enemy. Only he's not, he kisses like a dream, and they end up on the same side on a mission into dangerous territory to root out an enemy to both their people.

But treachery lurks in the shadows and when Shannon is betrayed, will her warrior reach her in time. Or is their happily-ever-after over before it could begin?

Shannon is a bad ass soldier on a mission to kidnap the emperor (or rescue General Dani Black), but when she arrives the gig is already up since Dani ratted them out and the Lathar are waiting for them. First healer Isan immediately takes interest in Shannon and more or less kidnaps her back to medbay and claims her or his own...and since he's of the "blood rage" heritage, no one will challenge his claim. Shannon gradually sees that the Lathar are okay and agrees to work with them to find an assassin who tried to kill, not only the Earth President, but also the Lathar Emperor. Isan goes along with her but he's struggling with the blood rage he thought he wasn't subject too.

The story overall isn't bad. It has its positive points, like the angst of Isan's heritage and battling his fear of going beserker (and most especially what the emperor did to his parents in his misconceptions about the blood rage). I also liked the president, Cam Murphy and his representation of humans as not ignorant morons.

But my struggle here was because of Isan and the Lathar in general...on the whole I don't like them, but I'm getting some pretty mixed messages about them. In the beginning you have Isan dragging and carrying Shannon along to get her where he wants her. He ignores her protests and laughs at her anger, continuing to override her physical autonomy. Granted, she's a "prisoner." But this behavior, doesn't necessarily stop. Isan continually ignores Shannon's wants in favor of his own, as long as he's not hurting her or causing fear. The fear he doesn't like, but as long as she's not in fear, he'll continue to lay on top of her even though she doesn't want him to, and try to calm her down. The message here is, " I won't hurt you, but I will control you." The Lathar are big on "protecting and pampering" their women. To them, cherishing a woman means taking away their freedom so they can't be in any danger or taken away from their mate. It's sweet in its concept, but borderline abusive in practice - Shannon cannot interact with another Lathar male because Isan will go into his rage, he won't let her be a soldier anymore because she might get hurt, she can't go off alone until he's claimed her (because, Isan "lies," she might get stolen by another Lathar...but we have seen this happen in previous stories...and they'll keep her until she's compliant as well). She's cossetted against her own interests. And the moment she does go off and do something dangerous on her own, she's captured and needs to be rescued by her man, reinforcing the Lathar message that women shouldn't be allowed to do that stuff (and Shannon learns it too). It's like they're continuously attracted to these bad ass strong women, but once they have them, they don't want them to be like that anymore. The attraction is in dominating these strong women and that doesn't feel romantic to me.

Now, what I did like (and what's giving me mixed messages) is when second healer calls Isan out on his secretly giving his woman a contraceptive because then the human women won't want to come to them willingly because they'll know the Lathar will only take away their choices. I like that the Emperor is called out for his taking away the choice of a "lesser" population and that the Emperor is negotiating so that women come to the Lathar willingly. I like that Cam Murphy tells the Lathar to treat the human women like equals and not as a "pussy to be fucked and bred." Only time will tell if this message gets through, since they still see a women as potential mates instead of actual people. I've read one or two of these Lathar stories which don't seem to perpetuate these negative Lathar characteristics (Hitched to the Alien General, Alien Commander's Mate) and that's why I keep reading. Because those were really good. This one was not my favorite.

The Lathar are back!!! Thank God, I've missed these guys!

Isan is finding it harder and harder to control the demon inside him. His father had the same problem and he gave in to the Rage. Isan loves being a doctor, he does NOT want to became the Lathar version of a Berserker. When he comes across an Earth miltary team trying to sneak on board and kidnap the Emperor (not a smart move) he finds himself intrigued by a certain red haired enchantress.

Shannon knew her superiors plan was...well let's just say flawed. She's a good soldier though and hen one plan fails she defaults to the next and goes after her superior Dani. But she gets a bit of a shock when Dani seems to be mated to one of the Lathar. Shannon knew that not all the propogande Earth authorities were spouting was true but she has no plans to become a breeding machine!

OMG I loved Isan and Shannon. She is master strategist, gung-ho warrior and he wnts to be the cool, in control doctor, pity his rage keeps getting the better of him. He is deathly afraid of letting it win and finding out later that he hurt an innocent.

The new President is pretty intriguing, I'm desperate to know more!

Bit disappointed

I basically never write a review. I also very rarely give less than 4 stars as I feel authors put their heart and souls into a book and that should be appreciated. However, there is a line in this book that made me quite sad that an author I had liked could put this in her book. Its the line about people fighting for religion fighting for imaginary friends. Obviously the author and anyone else has the right to their opinions. I just didn't expect cheap shots at people with faith in my romance novel. Write it in a blog, put it in a podcast but please don't attack personal life choices in a romance novel about aliens. I still gave 3 stars because I did like the story and the author is entitled to her opinion.I just doubt I will be buying this author again because I get enough aggression from the world on a daily basis without having to get it in the very little time I have to relax.

Four stars since she didn’t fight long

This story features Isan and Shannon, another human solider heroine.
Shannon didn’t fight the bond terribly bad, and wasn’t horribly mean to him. For those facts alone is why I rated it so highly.
She gave him a bit of push back, but not to the point of being annoying.
Some interesting developments in this series with berserkers and the other unit of warriors with it. Glad the emperor got more page time. But please GOSH PLEASE DONT LET HIM MATE THAT HORRIBLE HUMAN CHICK SARAH! I thought for sure she was gonna get taken out, but then to hear she had just been taken prisoner....no, no, no...please don’t let it be her! The Emperor needs a soft and gentle mate.
Looking forward to more from this series and hope it stays on track to move it along instead of treading water.

Wow! Isan brings another level and another group of Lathar to this universe. This story seemed to be over before it began. So much was happening and so many more questions arise. I am not going to spoil this book, but I am going to say that it totally advances the whole Latharian universe. A little more of Daaynal's background is given (and it does not put him in a good light). Isan is such a fantastic character, both strong and tragic. Shannon gets to do a bit more than previous heroines. And finally, the suggestion from one of the Sentinal females comes into play as revealed by the second healer (yay!).

Now I have to wait until March for the next book (fingers crossed it is finally Daanar and the former VP). I cannot wait to see where this series heads next.

Hmm 🤨

It wasn’t a bad read. I liked the writing, the world and I really liked the parts about the ‘beserkers’. But I just did not find the events between the h&H romantic.

**spoilers**
The heroine meets the hero, thinks he’s the ugliest alien she’s ever seen. He immediately manhandles her, even paddles her backside, mocks her and then tells his fellow warriors that she belongs to him. Real caveman a$$hole antics right here, and the heroine seems to agree. Until she suddenly doesn’t. 😒
It just about gave me whiplash. She says he’s ugly, then oh, he’s amazingly handsome beneath the scars - and this happens practically from one page to the next. And he’s a massive a$$hole alien, but ooh he’s sexy AF and she can’t resist. Next we know, she’s completely fallen for him and not disputing his claim that she’s his. At all 🤷‍♀️.
And then... towards the end of the book, he does something that feels like the ultimate betrayal and how is she ever going to forgive him? BUT the very same day, she gets captured and he comes and rescues her. He came for her!! OMG all is forgotten and forgiven and let’s be married. Seriously 😑.

I’m so frustrated at how these supposedly strong and sensible women are overcome by hormones and magic d!ck practically overnight 🤦‍♀️. Please give us some real romance and a hero worth having!!

Purchased this and #9 at the same time, and wasn't impressed with either. This one was slightly better than the other because the "blood rage" warriors were interesting, as was the view of the factory city on Earth. Well, depressing, but also interesting. Which is actually, ironically, rather frustrating: straightening out all that is wrong with the factory city way of life would probably make an interesting sci-fi book or duology/trilogy in its own right, but isn't the sort of thing that will ever get fully fleshed out and investigated in a romance series. It's just not the focus. I do suspect that Shannon's onetime friend--the doctor in the factory city--will be a love interest in a subsequent novel, so the factory city will certainly be revisited, but how this came to be a thing on Earth--and also why a company would abandon multiple levels after investing the money into them--is unlikely to ever be fully explored. Also,

I take exception to the current trend toward producing rambling, poorly planned out, never-ending series of books which seemingly just drag on to milk the reader for more money. Authors should know where their series are going, and individual books within a series should add something to the work as a whole. With respect to Warriors of the Lathar, the first book introduced a group of characters who were obviously going to be paired off in subsequent volumes. Great! But instead of doing that, we keep getting two and three volume side-tracks.

Now, the first time made a certain degree of sense: of course they sent someone to retrieve Lizzie, and of course that opened a can of worms or two, because the Lathar are really bad at tact, stealth, and patience. (Sorry, guys. Those just aren't your fortes.) Negotiating for Lizzie, or using Jess to retrieve her, would arguably have been far more sensible than kidnapping her. But they did it the Lathar way, which both created a diplomatic incident, and resulted in Jac and Amanda meeting their own guys. Ok, fine. But: did Jac and Amanda need separate novels to tell their stories? I don't actually remember there being that much that happened in either. Did the fallout of that incident need to cover three books and counting, with only this one making progress toward resolving it? Number 9 added absolutely nothing to the larger story, and #7 and #10 feel like they exist primarily to introduce more characters to be used later.

This is especially grating considering that we still haven't seen what happened with Lizzie, and unless he's going to be hooked up with Shannon's doctor friend or Lizzie herself, there's no prospective love interest on the horizon for the emperor. Ten volumes in and still no hint of an empress?! Foolishly, I've kept reading these expecting at least some hints toward what's going on, but there's been nothing. No female character who seems to have caught the emperor's attention, No news of Lizzie. And I'm tired of being strung along.

Alien Surgeon's Seduction (Warriors of the Lathar 8)

I began the series at the end. I began with the Latharian Mate Program. I saw many of these people in that book. I loved that book and when I realized Mina Carter had a whole series I needed to know I got started.
This book though is about another healer. The second best, Isan. It is about his love story with Shannon. How they met. How she came to start having feelings for him. How he treated her with the utmost respect, Until one day he say her with another Lather. His family's blood rage kicks in. She is the only person who can stop it. That first night is their first night of lovemaking. After that they did a run to the planet for information. Later, he was called one way, she got a message to return to the planet. It was a way to get her in to kill her eventually after enough men enjoy her. When Isan hears, his Dad is there. He offers all of their services too. Together they got her back and she pulled him out of another blood rage.
The two already had bonded but they had a full ceremony with his father there.
I was very happy that Isan had something that was so difficult to face. But Shannon saves him from all his fears and brings him back to her...to her love. What a great love! How special and sweet that is!

An absolute MUST READ!

No one least of all Shannon Taylor a dedicated marine along with her team expected the outcome of trying to board a Lathar ship and abduct the Emperor Daaynal. They assumed their Intel was correct. But they were so wrong. Too bad nobody told them he was no longer there. Luckily Shannon had a back up plan nobody other than her team knew about. To rescue General Dani Black from the Lathar cells and hopefully get out in one piece. That plan also went so well that now Shannon and her team are now prisoners of the Lathar. One Lathar in particular has his sites set on Shannon telling her she is now his mate as he throws her over his shoulder to subdue her struggles. Now Dani and Shannon must convince the Lathars that the Terrans really do not want a war and the new Terran president Murphy is not like the other idiots who held power. Isan and Shannon will have to band together to hunt down Earth First the purists organisation who will do anything to disrupt any alliance they try to make with the aliens. There is so much action and romance in this book you really have trouble putting it down. A big thank you Mina Carter for the entertaining review book. I am also a verified purchase.

First let me say that I we do go back a bit in the story. If you read, “Bonded to the Alien and Alien Warrior’s Secret,” you will be reading scenes from that book in this one. I kept thinking I read this one already but nope. This is about Shannon & Isan. We all know the Latharian Warriors are big, muscled, and hot. Isan is the head Healer and never expected to find his mate. Low and behold, Shannon. She has come to rescue Dani Black who is to be Sardaan’s mate. But that is a side note. Isan has scars like most of the Healer’s do. It is a test to their ability and strength.

I love that Shannon can match Isan in strength. She may be small but she can kick butt. There is a lot of mystery still going on. We have a new president who seems to understand and agree with Daaynal. Shannon’s phobia is understandable but Isan is in for it, big time. In regards to Isan, his “Blood Rage” is tested and we find out more about his past. I was heartbroken at times through the book. What we find out about his mother and Shannon’s past. UGH! You have to read. So good. I am looking forward to reading the next book, “Rescued by her Alien Protector.” THAT is the one I know I have been waiting for.

I absolutely loved this story!! It was a great read and I loved the characters. Shannon was a great heroine and I loved how she dealt with everything. I loved the characters together as well. This is the 10th book in the series and can be read as a standalone but if you have read the previous books you will know more of the characters and some more of the over arcing story. This book gives you what you need to know to fully enjoy it, you will just pick up on more if you have read the previous ones. I thought this was a great addition to the series. It fit in well but still felt like it's own story. I really adored the characters and the new introduction to the Izean. There is a twist in this story as well that I am really excited to see where it will take us next. This story was written well and pulled me in from beginning to end with the characters. I loved the two of them together. I am super excited to get the next book in the series as well!

I actually liked this book. Read a few reviews that left me reluctant to read this story, but I pressed on, and glad I did. Shannon and Isan was actually a great couple. Both stubborn and strong. A match. Isan knew immediately that Shannon was his. He was definitely possessive, as they all are, but he did not push the physical stuff until much, much later in the story.

There was some angst, misunderstandings, miscommunications and lies. Secrets on both sides. Although most unintentional, Isan did something wrong, for in his mind was for the right reason. As it turns out, the Emperor did something wrong for what he thought was the right reason. The Emperor lost a lot for his actions. I’m saddened by the burden of his mantle. I think he is also at times. I hope he finds some one eventually. I like him and would not wish for him to be alone forever. But, I want someone strong, kind, but not a pushover.

As for Isan, fortunately, Shannon is more forgiving and love won out in the end. I really enjoyed this story. Good job Mina.

This story has really got some intense emotional meat to it.
Sure there is the mating/claiming aspect but for me it was all Isan K'vass' story.
Isan K'Vass is 2nd only to Laarn K'Vass as healer aboard the Veral'vias but he hides a secret deep within himself that threatens all he holds dear; his bloodline. His father Raalt of Parac' Norr is the leader of the dreaded Izaea,
berserkers to the max who all lay claim to the Blood Rage; a madness without equal. And into this mirage of madness the fiery situation enters the unsuspecting red-haired little human Shannon Taylor.

The intertwining of passions, politics, unacknowledged and unacceptable family connections,
and an emperor with flaws even he doesn't want to admit to. An error in mishandling of this familial situation takes the reader on a emotional roller coaster ride of intense reading. An excellent 10th book in this Latharian series.

Isan K'Vass, scary first Healer, took a look at Shannon Taylor and there it was, he was shot. His heart, mind and reason no longer his. Shannon never thought she would be interested in an alien much less a heavy scarred one, but one does not rule the heart and the overprotective and possessive alien was getting into her heart. Still, the alien Healer had to learn how to treat his female because the decided, skillful and independent woman was not one to leave behind. The author had me sidetracked with Isan’s secret. What I was guessing was not. The tough, mighty, scary and possessive alien was hers and she was his rock. Action, suspense, intrigue, betrayal, strong emotions, mystery, secrets, violence and lot of passion. Second book that I read in the Lathar Alien series and enjoyed it a lot!

Rescue Gone Wrong

Isan is a dedicate Warrior Healer with the scares to prove it. He comes from a deadly line of warrior called Izaea. Warrior berserker clan that is used for total annihilation of the enemy and deemed unworthy to mate. These guy live to fight. Isan was deemed not to carry the gene that caused this mutation to happen.

Shannon is an elite warrior from earth with the purpose of rescuing her commanding officer. She is determined to beat this alien race.

These two characters at times made me laugh and cheer for them to get together.

Each has their own secrets that may keep them apart can they find the answers before its to late?

Any chance I get to read a book in this series is always a great read. These alien warriors are the best.

A review has been done without obligation to the author just to the joy of spreading the news about a new book.

Red headed temper meets blood lust

This was a great addition to the Lathar series. The only faults that I felt Isan had was he was to wrapped up in himself over the blood lust coming to light that he forgot about Shannon's feelings. He never explained what was happening to him so she was confused about his behavior sometimes. He also left her with no explanation at one point. Even though Shannon had the temperament to match she still let him get away with far to much in my opinion. I waiver on giving a 4 or 5 star because of these but since it was part of their characters went with a 5. The end did seem a little hurried in delving information and I did like the Emperor being caught off guard that Isan would make it public. Can't wait for the next story, I really like the Lathar universe.

I totally love any of the books in Mina Carters Warriors of the Lathar and Lathar Mercenaries series. These books are automatic one-clicks for me. The women in these series are strong. If they don't start out that way they certainly become that way. The men are hot. They love their women and are totally dedicated to them. The stories are well written and flow nicely. There are few if any typos. Sometimes the British colloquialisms throw me for a loop. The characters are all very different and there's no mistaking one for the other. They don't merge into one in my mind. Locations and scenes are described so that you can easily picture them in your mind. Each book has it's own HEA for the main couple but there's always a little something that let's you know that there will be another book to follow. I just wish that the stories were a little longer.

Shannon may be on a fool's mission but she never expected the changes to come. Can she accept being more than a soldier?
I love getting to know Shannon and Isan. Isan didn't expect to find a mate but Shannon knocked him off his stride. Even as he gets to know his human female he keeps secrets. I enjoyed seeing Shannon peel behind the layers Isan hides behind. I live seeing Shannon tame the beast as it were.
This story by Ms. Carter is well written and enjoyable. I adore the direction she takes as she expands our understanding on not only the Lathar but also humans. I am looking forward to where she will take us next in this world she has created.

Even though I have issues with this series overall, I have enjoyed most of the stories on their own. It was great to read about a berserker subset of the Lathar and I was interested in their traditions and culture. Sadly, we had more exposure to the horrors of Earth slums and slavery than we did to beserker culture. This is something I hope to see in future novels in this series.

I liked Isan and Shannon, and that she wasn't immediately enamoured with the hor doctor. It was great to see she had insecurities of her own and they both had to overcome personal challenges before they could become a couple.

Overall a good novel.

Good book

I enjoyed reading this book. Shannon is a firecracker and a tough and skilled officer. Isan is the 2nd best Latharian healer. They have connection right from the beginning. We are introduced to a new group of Latharians, berserkers of their group who goes into a blood rage. I liked the little mission they went to on earth to find out more about a fanatic rebel group. We’re also introduced to a new President who seems to be very intelligent while being military/fighter minded. Luckily, the seems to be pro Latharians.
This book had an interesting reveal towards the end that makes this series more interesting.

I have read all 10 books of the Lathar series and this one checked most of the boxes for me. Isin and Shannon had amazing chemistry. Shannon was, for the most part, a strong female lead. Isin exhibits the Lathar characteristics I expected him to, but seemed a bit more hesitant to seal the deal than some of his predecessors from earlier books in the series. I probably would have given this one a solid 4.5 stars, but Shannon pulled a TSTL moment near the end of the book that, to me, didn't ring true to her character's supposed military experience and training or knowledge of the enemy parties involved. I am voluntarily reviewing this book for the author.

Dear Lord this book was sooooo good.

I absolutely love this series. This was Shannon and Isan's story. My gosh what a story. Shannon a human soldier on a mission to kidnap the Emperor. When all Heck breaks loose. Isan is the ship's head healer and proud warrior one look at the feisty red head and he knows she's his. Only problem he not like the others. Danger is coming for them and secrets are to be revealed will they be able to weather the coming storm? Or will they lose their selves in the massive waves?

Another fantastic book! Not sure what else I can say. I have read all of these and loved every one of them. This one had some really great twists and turns in the plot. I love the characters in this series. Even the side characters have depth. Like everyone else who is reading this series, I want to tell Mina Carter that we are all tired of waiting for the Emperor to have a mate. I know she has to be special and her story has to be very special and that's a little intimidating, but come on...it's time!!!

I forgot how much i enjoy reading this series💜

Loved this couple! I knew i would love his storyline. Although, i was able to guess part of his past, it was still so sad for his father, i cried.

And, If his mother mated again and had 2 more sons, that would make the Isan the oldest and the rightful heir, wouldn't it ...hmm🤔 it would have been nice to have scene where his brothers welcomed him into the family at the union cermony🤷‍♀️😁

Can't wait for the next book... please keep writing, Mina! Hopefully Isan's father will be able to find real lasting love this time, he deserves it.🤞🤞

Shannon Taylor is on a doomed mission to kidnap the Emperor of the Lathar. Immediately she is claimed by Isan K'Vass. He wants to claim her but is hesitant that his genetics will prevent them from being together. It takes Isan's genetic heritage to rescue Shannon when she is betrayed by other humans.

Really liked this one. The previous books weren't bad but I was beginning to not like them as much.
