Frank Doy, contract security specialist, is flat broke. Then beautiful and mysterious Vlasta George shows up at his door. She'll give him good money to take her to a secret location in Europe, no questions asked.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
The woman’s husband is a murderous Teesside gangster. She is running away to start a life without him, taking her two young kids and a million pounds with her.
HE WANTS HER BACK. DEAD OR ALIVE.
But there is someone even more dangerous — someone from the past — who also has an interest in the money. Before long, two of Vlasta’s circle are found dead.
Doy finds himself in a frantic chase across Europe, travelling into unknown territory, battling an enemy he doesn’t understand, for vendettas he is not involved with.
Will he be able to protect his client — and make it out alive?
I/ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again. I love a good thriller and the start of a series is simply the cherry on top! I can’t recall where I got this book, but I’m glad I picked it up. It literally took me for a ride! A ride across Europe.
Frank Doy is a private security contractor, usually down on his luck with a corresponding bank account. To make a quick buck he takes on Vlasta George as a client. He believes he’s just driving her to an unknown location in Europe. It turns out to be much more involved - is she running from her abusive husband, someone he is beholding to or some other criminal?
I liked Frank. He was willing to put himself out there to protect Vlasta and her children - working on the tidbits of information she would give him a bite at a time. I enjoyed what turned out to be a wild ride and am looking forward to more from Dan Latus.
A good, action-packed thriller. A retired cop, now a private security consultant is hired to escort a woman and her children as they attempt to escape her abusive husband. However, she does not tell him the whole story. And so begins a race across Europe and lots of collateral damage as people are picked off along the way.
Even the 'good guy' doesn't seem to have a problem with killing people - as long add they are bad guys.

When a mysterious woman turns up on Frank's doorstep wanting to employ him to drive her to a mystery location his first reaction is to refuse, but when she returns looking battered and bruised, he decides to take the job, but of course not is all it seems and why is she so secretive? This is my first introduction to this author and I enjoyed the book with its well thought out plot. I am sure I will be reading more in the series.
Frank Doy, meets a beautiful woman and knows she is trouble from the start. Pulled into a dash across Europe with her and her children, Frank tries his best to protect them all and work out what the truth is. The pace is fast and furious - lies and danger abound - as the truth shifts under his feet. Read this quickly, pulled by the intrigue and pace. Lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing and enjoyed the ride.
This was a bit disappointing. New author, new series so I had high hopes. It's not that I didn't think it was well-written; it was a matter of the characters not being likeable. Frank Doy was a letdown as a heroic detective and Vlasta was a disappointment as a human being. The best I could rate this was 3 stars.
Secrets, secrets, lies, even more lies and so much deception. Foreign intrigue that brought with it a lot of criminal enterprises and it's underworld and just brave (and maybe crazy) P. I.
Really liked this book and the author will look for more by him. Good story with the right amount of tension to keep you interested - don't want to give anything away but sure people will enjoy it.
Once you try to get over the myriad punctuation errors, you're left with an ending that's as counterfeit as the money. By the way, Mr. Latus, ever heard that there's no comma before a dependent clause?
A quick, enjoyable, page turner. Believable characters and plot. Doy is a very likable hero, with a heart of gold. Brains? A little slow which somehow fires his cautious mess and his sharp planning.a
This is an excellent, tough, story taking us from Englanbd's east coast to Europe with a host of unsavoury characters. Enjoyed the fast pace. Julian Tremayne, East Yorkshire
Hope they get better: I've got a further 11 books to get through. Personally I hate books written in the first person as it is a total give-away that the hero survived all the dangerous events in the story. The fact that there are another 11 books kind of corroborates this theory. This story is messy and and not rational in many parts. Skip read chunks wanting it to end.
Not sure how this gets such great reviews because it was very 2d and very unbelievable, and the fact that the protagonist continues to believe the lying client is ridiculous. One and done
Started a little slow & I almost didn't read it, but I'm glad I did. It had a good plot with lots of twists & turns. Look forward to more of Mr. Latus' work.
