Childhood trauma, rejection, and abandonment impacts Amanda Verchall’s relationships, including her marriage. It’s nothing she can’t handle, until the day a mysterious figure threatens to expose a crime and destroy what is left of her life. While she struggles to get a grip on her sanity, a construction crew discovers skeletal remains in a home where she once lived. Past and present, fact and fiction blend together, further jeopardizing her world and raising two Who is Amanda Verchall and who did she kill?
***SPOILER ALERT***I was especially taken with the lead character Amanda, her paralyzing fear of being found out as a murderer, a patricidal one, or maybe even a double murderer since her friend, whom she thought she had pushed down the stairs, had miscarried after the fall. That's some heavy guilt to be carrying around. The denouement when she discovers, first, that she didn't push the girl down, and second, that she didn't kill her father, got me thinking that sometimes we make our own hells -- by always imagining the worst. I thought the fact that she'd been abandoned as a child was maybe what messed up her mind and led her to be so down on herself. The sins of the father are often visited upon the son - or daughter. It ain't fair but it's a fact of life. I was sorry she divorced Brad. It seemed like he'd been pretty loyal, but I understood her point that she needed to work on loving herself before she could love someone else. Maybe he was the type who's drawn to wounded animals. I haven't started your latest, "Revenge Is Mine" yet, but I am looking forward to it.

Leila Kirkconnell weaves a very intense and intriguing story, from start to finish. Amanda, a woman on the fast road to success, suddenly is pulled from her perfect life by a pst she thought was buried and forgotten. Bit by bit she unravels, as well as another old mystery, does, pulling the reader into this twisted world of emotions and revelations. The book keeps the same insane pace with hidden facets of the story very slowly getting resolved, in a really satisfactory way. But here is the secret of Shattered, it will challenge your wit till the very last revelation, and you most certainly would be surprised by its end. Definitely recommended.
Ok folks stepping out of my beasties and demons I just enjoyed a psychological thriller that monopolized a lot of my xmas after the cow was eaten.
Seriously if you're into James Patterson and thrillers that keep you going OMG pick up Shattered by Leila Kirkconnell.
We all make mistakes as kids right? You can relate to those oh shit moments can't you? Of course we can...BUT this characters' mistakes have literally leaped out of her locked childhood closet to grab her by the throat and send her life spiraling into a very bad, dangerious place for her and her husband.
