‘What’s wrong with a little fantasizing?’

Discovering the ‘author’ - ‘Cleo Long’ - of this exceptionally entertaining book is just the fun beginning. As the authors state, ‘Cleo Long is an acronym formed from the names of the four authors, who are also the protagonists in this unusual erotic novel/cookbook, based on both the romantic and culinary adventures of four close New York friends—Cindy L., a jewelry designer extraordinaire; Laura O., a businesswoman who discovered how to “Lose your idealism and cry all the way to the bank”; Ellen N., a TV executive who believes one should “Dream as if you were to live forever, but live as if you were to die next week”; and Olivia G., the director of a nonprofit, whose motto in life is “Never regret. If it’s good, it’s wonderful. If it’s bad, it’s experience.” One night not long ago, the four friends decided to form a secret Love Club of their own, where “no children, husbands, bosses or diet police” would be allowed. Over the course of a year’s worth of Club meetings in a rooftop apartment on Amsterdam Avenue, the four of them candidly shared dozens of delightfully erotic tales, while preparing the most delectable celebratory meals. And then they decided to write it all down… including, of course, the most thrillingly memorable, best kept secrets of their past and current love lives, as well as all the menus and recipes of the Club’s lavish dinners. So, besides being enjoyed as a red-hot sexy adventure story, The Love Club of Amsterdam Avenue serves as a great cookbook too.’

Each of the four contributors is presented in full biographical notes as the book opens – notes that reveal fun and talented women. From the cover of the book one might expect a Chick Lit novel – racy and naughty – but the joy of reading this book is that it remains in the living room conversation arena! Yes, the adventures described are scintillating, but the focus is more on fun and in-jokes and great food. ‘Four women who were just barely on the right side of forty, or just beyond it, and were well aware that this is as good as it gets, enjoyed a casual evening of gossip and cooking and eating girl food, salads and quiches and such, plus scrumptious easy-to-prepare desserts… And then the after dinner, real main course which they savored the most – intimate confessions and lengthy analyses of all matters of the heart and soul, and everything that was good or not so good about their marriages, the shape of their butts, their bosses and their shoe collection...’ And - six dinners are featured – with recipes!

That flavor resonates throughout this fun book. This is a terrific book for women to thoroughly enjoy, but it is so well written and insightful that men should read it carefully! This is a very successful new book that deserves wide recognition.

Fine dining and sexy fantasies

The Love Club of Amsterdam Avenue is the first book I have read by Cleo Long so I was not sure what to expect with this "new to me" author. The book description intrigued me as I thought the story could go a couple of different ways in its focus. Plus the fantasy part, if done well, could be sinfully delicious.
I thought the book was nicely written and there were some very hot and steamy parts and the characters were good. But there were some things that I was not a fan of. At the very beginning of the book the author has given a detail of each of the women, sort of like a questionnaire. I can see why this was done and there were things that I liked about this but found that there was then a lack of detail and depth the characters in the actual story. I think this was because everything was basically already known about them before the story even started so why bother get to know more about them during the story. The other main thing that had me scratching my head were the detailed recipes. To me it was strange to put these, including detailed instructions, into the actual story. I would have preferred for these to be placed at the end of the book instead, as I really did not care about reading them. So there was a lot of space in the story for certain things and not others, recipes versus characters.
This was an okay book, not one that I would dissuade someone from purchasing but not one that I would encourage someone to buy. But if you have KU then you can borrow it with your subscription, at least at the time of writing this review, and find out for yourself if you like The Love Club of Amsterdam Avenue.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

I have to say this book just was not what I expected. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and maybe why I mistook from the description what this story was really about. When I read “founding members of a very special secret society” and the word club I guess I expected it to be like a evening club…a place to go not like a book club where all the members, four of them, tell stories. I read about seventy five percent and just had to quit. I’ve read a lot of erotica and other books but I had to struggle to go on from about the first ten percent. I feel this is more of one of those multi stories books. Great if you are trying to fill a little time here and there but I didn’t feel it was a ongoing story. I also think there needs to be some warning about if you are interested in FF sex. I read some of everything so I’ve read plenty of gay sex but I feel there should be more warnings with this book. I’m giving it four stars but only because I don’t feel the author misled me about the book.

I would give this book 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the different format but I prefer longer in depth stories and plots with more intensity and more sex. Someone who enjoys short stories and lighter content would enjoy this book more.

Multiple varied middle aged sex stories and recipes

as I was more into reading the stories to see the character development and at night I’m not interested in reading recipes although it was a different way of getting readers into a story.

Good read

This is an unusual book, not your usual love story. It's several love stories all in interesting circumstances and told in detail, doesn't leave much to imagination.

I received this book from Hidden Gems for my honest review.

I am kind of bummed about this book as I felt like it had a lot of potential to keep my interest with it's story-line. But I did not like the profile parts in the beginning of the book. I don't want to learn about the characters at the very beginning of the book. I want to learn about the characters throughout the book that is what keeps you interested. I really felt like the book was dragging on and really didn't have much of a story-line.
