Alliance Navy Commander Grayson Stone is a prisoner. His encounter with the alien invaders is behind him, a reckoning years in the making ahead. War in the galaxy is about to explode in a way he never imagined. The fate of humankind rests on a razor’s edge.
He won’t remain idle. One way or another, he’s determined to escape. To send warning of the imminent assault and sound the call to this new war.
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

“Sit down and buckle up, Captain Commie. We’re going for a ride.”
Oh boy, these books are very easy to read and very addictive.
“Bollocks?” I ask. “Picked it up from Major Yult. It’s fun to say. Bollocks. Bollocks.” I have to admit, his accent does make the word sound funnier than it should. “Are you done?” “Yes.” He pauses. “Bollocks.”
I always like first person perspective told stories. Strange alien invasion story. I believe that jewel held by Rosik has much more story to tell. Lots of hidden threads. This story is just getting started.
Such an exciting second episode. Our two main characters relationship develops some trust as together they try to warn their own people of the alien threat. They are thrawted by politics at the station they have landed and find themselves caught up their. Exciting battles, and events occur leading up to a finale that appears to spell probable doom! So brilliant I had it finished before I knew it and was disappointed to be reading the last page. So much story yet to tel, questions to be answered. Will our two hero's meet again? Roll on Star Rage!!
Fun ride and I enjoyed seeing the characters develop a bit. One big editorial gaff kept appearing...misuse of the pronoun me as the subject. Once or twice I can overlook but it was a constant glaring mistake that drove me crazy after a while.
Another fast-paced, action-packed story with characters both good and bad who get Duke Nukem-level hurt piled on them quick. Grayson Stone and Rosik find themselves on Naraka, a ghost station that's home to people who don't fit in elsewhere in the galaxy. With the Banshees hot on their tail, they find themselves embroiled in a power struggle for rule of Naraka as the clock ticks down to alien attack. Who can they trust when they don't even trust each other?
I listened to the audiobook version and once again, Jeffrey Kafer's narration was superb, a compliment to MR Forbes' writing. Forbes has a knack for creating characters you can relate to really quickly, taking the things they care about most away from them, and then making them fight and hurt badly to achieve their goals. Kafer brings the characters to life brilliantly.
Unfortunately, I'm so invested in the series now, I won't be able to wait for the next audiobook. I'm going to have to read on to find out what happens next.
*(I received an ARC copy of the audiobook from the author.)
Another solid, action-packed tale sees our protagonists move back to space. Forbes loves to create characters with mixed, mysterious, motivations and throw them at each other. What results is believable action that keeps you guessing. It’s a difficult balancing act to get through two books of a series and still have so many unanswered unknowns, but, so far, he has pulled it off - drip feeding enough fresh revelations to keep you hooked. At some point though, all those questions are going to need answering,.
Two books, one phone call, and we still have no idea about the nature or motivation of the aliens. Not to mention the "secret" of our protagonist 's side kick. Not going down the 12 book rabbit hole with this author again. Plenty of great authors in this field and really a shame because I enjoyed many of the author's earlier works. Not one star because the book is very well written.
As a somewhat pass 16 yr old reader I enjoy mature heros, characters who have lived long enough to reasonably have the knowledge and skills they use. I also enjoy a good mystery. This series has both. Odin must not only, with help from his arch enemy find a way to win the war against overwhelming odds, but find how/why/what is their purpose. A personal caveat Good manners, good grammar -Me doesn’t begin the list of people. Me comes last.
Convincing main characters and space battles, weak ending
Heroic main character with realistic nuances, suspenseful narration, sci-fi creative episodes, unrealistic minor characters, and disappointing concluding scene. Still definitely worth the read. Much better than the previous 6 sci-fi novels I started reading but skimmed because of too many weaknesses.
Incredibly this managed to be even worst than the first. I am dropping this series. Still no hint about what is going on with the aliens, now the action is on a space station involving gangsters that do not matter, the aliens show up for a second with completely different attributes than the first book.
Another great book continuing the fight against the Banshees by Rozik and Odin Long knife. The secrets they both have, the conflict between them, can they put it aside? The enemy returns and fight intensifies...
Well written and interesting from beginning to end. Very perceptive ideas that kept my interest and has me impatiently waiting for the next book in the series.
One of the "Best" authors I've read yet. You will not be disappointed.
Very good prime read, you can't put it down! Very well thought out with expert technology. M. R. Forbes is a prime read, I've read a goog deal of his books.
I didn't think I'd like the First Person point of view for both of the first two books but it really makes the story flow quickly. It keeps a fast pace and doesn't get dragged down by useless repetitive narration.
Read it and enjoy. I am glad I did and so will you if you know odin and what happened on Warrick then read on you and find out what happened next and I will leave it there so I don't spoil it for you
From start to finish the Saga continues with no let up, no rest for the hero. The uncertainty is threatening, a never ending thrill ride for sure. Characters evolve with everything leading up to what in the end!
The path often takes many twists and turns - side paths become a way to move forward in the ongoing struggle to defeat the mysterious aliens. Odin Longknife continues to try to discover who to trust and how to over come his own kind’s selfish battles in his attempt to warn mankind of the impending danger.
Excellent sequel to a great first book. Great writing, great characters and a story that promises more revelations are to come and I can't wait for book 3.
This story is getting better with each chapter and Odin is trying his best to warn the Alliance while Rozik is trying to warn an the commune about the aliens!
The characters are rich (and not too many, so I can keep track). Nice developing story line. Not a cliff hanger end but a nice intro into the next book.
A excellent series by m.r. Forbes can’t wait till the next book. Full of action, twist and turns at every corner. I’d recommend giving his books a chance
