A new threat arises, stirring the Beasts in its wake. A Primordial Beast so powerful all the gatherers in the nation have little hope of defeating it. Aiden must find a way to stand and prevent the destruction of Craesti City, the capital of the Kingdom.
I am an Air Force Veteran and graduate of the Air Force Academy. I have wanted to write for the entire of my adult life and finally decided to just do it.
I petered out about a quarter of the way in. The dungeon felt like a total intrusion and no, it isn't helping that it is tied into the calamity that forced the settlers to create the current kingdom and is thus related to the calamity that Aiden is meant to fix for Darkness. I also didn't like the death of one of Aiden's friends. It felt totally random except as a stakes-raiser to let readers know that we're really serious now.
I'm going to give this three stars because it's still everything the other two books were and I can't account for why I just lost interest. A little too much of more of the same, I think.
This series just keeps getting better and better! Aiden keeps getting better and growing stronger. He is still a good kid with a kind heart. I need the next book now.
An excellent continuation of the series. Aiden continues to progress at an outstanding pace. Something happens to Aiden and his friends that allow them to progress even faster. The characters are still sort of one dimensional but there are losses in this book that made me feel more for the characters. It also enforces the idea that Aiden has been preaching that everyone needs to keep getting stronger. The only disappointment for me is that I have to wait so long for the next book to come out.
I read 3 books of Elemental Gatherer and I have to say this book is for Dum people.
I have some quesstions for Chris Vines:
First, if you were incarnated with all your past experience in which you were an airforce pilot and had a fiance, it doesn't matter what body you get your brain adopts and will work as an adult or you won't remember anything and have to start over. Your character is apparently a teenager with selective memory recall.
Secondly, Who in the USA airforce except for nuclear payload designer or engineer knows how to make a nuke? your character is an ex-pilot, all he can do is to look at the sat-nav and press a button to release the bomb. So ... how?
Thirdly, Your created character tells us in the first book that he has forgotten his ex's face and how she looked but can remember the gunpowder formula and a nuclear bomb. I mean! read your own book before writing the next one.
Finally, Who is the winner, Ironman Vs Scarlet Witch or better yet Ironman Vs Thanos? An elemental sorcerer can disassemble or stop 100,000 bullets with his/her power. Case and point MAGNETO.
PS: your character also has commitment issues, a problem with work/life balance, and an unhealthy obsession with blindly following orders (an Army cadet).
Decant read just not as good as previous books and missing out or skipping on too many things I like as well as still not used items like one got of principle for example. But MC needs spend more time on himself and less by far on offers to put it mildly.
And dont like how going with him considering adding advanced technology to that world it would ruin balance for one and just cant see it being anything but disaster that would ruin this great read.
Reason main one is because unless started in world of already high to advanced technology, suddenly adding it to story never works as read number offer works like this that did this and none repeat none, have worked always been terrible and ruined the story usually so bad stopped reading or author realised it and fazed it out.
I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. (Fight.) I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. I made some powders and did some gathering. (Jellyfish.) Boy, I really need to make some powders and do some gathering. (End.)
Loved the book but also hated it. It feels too episodic cliff hangars done wrong. Kinda goes with the last book too it builds up excitement for something then all but sucker punches you with a major event that's relatively minor and just ends. This book probably should have begun with Aiden and friends being brought to the headmaster and the last book should have ended with the dungeon run. The final boss here was little more than a speed bump not an ending point.
This is around 4.5 stars for me. I like the series a lot, but I feel like some of the book is far too repetitive. Every few pages is about him needing to help his friends with powders etc. More focus needs to be on the MC and his growth. He can of course discuss his companions and their growth but we don't need to hear about his making powders and things for everyone so often. This is just one example. Now don't get me wrong I am very much so looking forward to further books. I just think there is room for improvement.
The series is still giving off that annoying YA feel, especially with the best friend, but the protagonist has his moments too.
The story was entertaining enough, but one of the positives is that it stuck with the single POV. I will continue with the series. I hope the protagonist matures then.
I chose this rating because I loved this book I love how this book isnt a normal book that is fast paced and has a main enemy that is always barely beaten in the end. This book is more of Aiden's journey to the top and shows his day to day and all he goes through with advancing and becoming stronger with his friends. It feels more natural than most book that have magic and an op mc. I've read a good bit of books with magic because I love the idea of magic and this book is definitely one of the top ones just because of how it is different with how the story is developed. Its not a book with the mc going against a strong enemy and towards the end ends up beating them barely by a miracle. I love the day by day aspect of this book and how it isn't too overbearing with emotional parts and how I can feel good reading the book but still feel humble about the mc. He's strong but not insanely strong that I get a big head and end up getting bored because he can handle anyone and there is no worries but also he's humble and doesn't make an enemy out of everyone he meets
Been waiting for this book for a while. Awesome fun but I wish it has no end as I'm now having to wait for the next book. The premise for all these books so far holds. Get powerful as fast as possible. This is the theme and it is a constant rich with training and learning. what I like most to all these books is that the gathering is not nebulous. There is logic and structure as well as the application of runes to effect the powers and abilities. This alone lots the series in the top of the gathering genre as most others books the MC is a battery or sponge that all of a sudden has wired abilities with no explanation. I hope there is more crafting in the inscription and blacksmithing in the next book. Some blended tech with aether and chemistry might be fun and new materials to work with. Can't wait for more hope th author is well into the next book.
Aiden goes on an expedition to gather rare plants an learns loss of a friend during trip .
Aiden learns to grow in magic learning stages in defense, offense, combat, self defense growing in strength, durance, stamina, physical health all round use of magic, potions and etc. He makes a best friend living next door to his parents same age male as him . They go to the academy together an opens doors to making more friends an classmates as well . He an his class go on an expedition to collect rare plants harvest beast meat for the academy a way to pay back the academy for his learning education which is provided for free . He learns of loss as one of his classmates dies to save him an others . recommend reading excellent series .
(Edit: It was an okay book in the end. A bit messy. Some things seemed to change randomly, as if the author forgot parts of the plot, and was too lazy to look it up for his own book. The pacing still needs work, but at least this one didn't end on a mid-fight cliffhanger. I'll probably listen to the next one, when it comes out on audible)
I'm still reading it, but it's starting to become a bit stupid, with enemies yelling "HoW dAre yOu oPpoSE ChAOs!", mc yelling "DIE" etc. We just need someone to say something profound to mc seconds before dying, and then the book'll reach peak stupidity.
Also, the audiobook narrator is still not the best. Not the worst either, but not the best.
So odd at times, the mc went to a military academy but acts more like a 17 year old college student and has no common sense. How many people know how to make a nuke or gunpowder and don't know what a soul is. His parents are merchants and is a horrible one who doesn't know how to bargain. He is all over the place and is so busy that he really doesn't have time to be really good at anything. . Honestly if I was in his shoes I would never mention nuclear stuff look at the damage it does and harm it does to nature once it's been used let alone the storage of it. Too bad he wasn't a computer programmer he would be amazing at inscription
Probably still more action than in book 2 even? But things are starting to get confusing, I honestly can't think of a good reason for the dungeons etc. and would really like some explanations soon. Also, I personally find the academy's system super unfair. Only the ones who are already better than the others get rewarded, but in such a way that they can easily enhance their skills even more. Seems like the system is set up to make the strong even stronger and leave the weaker ones behind fully.

The book is a very good read. While there is one main character, there are a vast assortment of supporting characters that moves the storyline along its set path. While most of the series as been centered around the school, the missions have expanded the world a bit. The last few chapters of this particular book expands it a little more while also opening up scenarios that may open up the world a lot more in the next installment. An installment that I eagerly await.
I love this series... is it the best no. However would a rate it in my top 10 of ongoing series? Absolutely! The story has great progression, amazing characters, and a vivid world. I dont particularly like harems/love triangles but at least its tasteful here and who says you cant love more than one person at a time anyway? The magic is interesting and again the characters are super engaging. THIS IS, IN MY OPINION, THE #1 WESTERN-WUXIA/XANXIA BOOK SERIES. If you dont know what wuxia is dont worry about it you can still love this series!
This is an excellent series whose characters are both realistic, and entertaining, without being overboard. The MC is exception with somewhat unreal levels of commitment. However, it fits the story, and even though it takes a while between books, it has so far been well worth it to me. I enjoy the abundance of character building. This story reminds me of the golden clipper series, in it uses character and story to hold your attention rather than action, action, action that most authors rely on. Looking forward to next in series.
What bothers me most about this book is how it felt uncoordinated and messy.
A couple examples: At one point he says that Narwan tested his talent again, when it was counselor Whynn who did it. At another time thugs take his money. He doesn't retrieve them, no one gives them to him, and yet he has them an hour or so later. In addition Aiden keeps talking about how he is going to do this and that but never does it.
I think the book would turn out better if the author added some more structure to the plot and slowed the pacing a little so that the MC can actually accomplish some of the things he is planning instead of forgetting them and end up doing something else.
I also detracted a star because there were some grammatical errors.
Things are really ramping up for Aiden, his friends, and their world. The final major threat of this book had an interesting solution, which I thought was great! 😃
There was a lot of progress in this book, though they still have quite a way to go, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming tournaments.
On a side note, there were more grammatical errors in this book, which were almost all pretty minor. Hopefully, the suggested corrections will be implemented or something better.
Another amazing book in the series. It’s sad that I have to wait for the next book. Great development of the main cast and their mentors. Love how the MC acts like you would expect someone from our world being thrown into his situation. The inside jokes he tells himself truly show he is relatable! Love the assortments I’d beast and how the MC is trying to merge our technology with Magic. Can’t wait for the next one!
The story was interesting and a fun read. Aiden’s adventures are interesting. I do like the cultivation focus this book, but I wished that he advanced again or went a new mission to explore what he learned. Maybe he could have run into a fortuitous encounter. The foreshadowing toward the end of the book could be hinting at such. I definitely looking forward to the next book and hope it will come soon!
The author is a good story teller with likeable main characters. The world Chris Vines has created is wonderful. My only real criticism is the pace of the story. This is the third book and we get detailed information about his studies, alchemy, and his leveling up but still don't have an understanding about who or what he is fighting. By the third book, I would think that whatever evil he is opposing would have some description.
Excellent book added to this series. I was chomping g at the big to read this book. I wasn't disappointed. It starts off a little slow, seeming as if Aiden is in an endless cycle of train, pop pills, cultivate, make powders repeat. It was getting g a little taxing at times but Chris Vines did a great job of mixing in action before it got too bad. I cannot wait for book 4 and can't wait for MC to get op.
I do not typically review books but I've read all three in this series in the past few days and did not want to stop. While many of the plot elements are not unique, the way they were combined and the delightful characters made me put off sleep to find out where the story was headed. I cannot wait for the next book to be available. And I'll be watching for any other books by this author as well.
one of a few books i keep on my tablet so i don't need to be at the computer to red it. also makes a hood listen when i take baths, all four so far are excellent, can't wait for number 5. too bad the author only give updates on facebook, it would be nice to actually rad the updates, facebook refused to let me join, not that i really mind except for the part where it is often used for updates on books, :(
This continues the story strongly as the MC keeps pushing to get stronger. The first quarter of the story was big surprise to me. I did not expect that approach. The remaining fits well into how the story works. Hope for sequel soonest!
For some reason the start of the book was a little difficult to get into for me; however, I remember liking the first two books so I stuck with it. It soon picked up for me and I quickly breezed through the rest. If you liked the first two books, you will definitely like this one. I hope the next one comes out soon.
This series is very good! Each book is better than the last and I’m really looking forward to the next when it comes out. The world building is top of the line and the characters are all excellently written while the action is just so exciting! Thank you for such an engrossing read!
