Mansboken : från en kille till en annan

Rate this book

3.5 ⭐️

Fantastiskt bra premiss, viktigt samtal!

This was a really REALLY good book! OK, to be fair it’s not geared towards me but towards teen boys. But still!!!

It deals with toxic masculinity in the best way, really. We discussed this writer and lecturer at the school where I worked, and some were a bit hesitant about him. So I took it upon myself to read all his books and check him out online and hear what other schools feel about him.

And honestly? I’m impressed! He writes with a language that clearly would appeal to the teen boys at my school where macho culture or toxic masculinity in this school, I mean… It’s A LOT. ANd I hope he can come to this school, it’s SO NEEDED!

Anyway, back to the book. Now I will note I listened to the audio book. And it’s Yoldas himself that is doing the reading, and he is doing a really good job with it. Not too quick, not too slow, with a clear voice and small breaks. Easy to listen to!

He points out a lot of facts and research in his text here and there, which is really good! The only thing lacking when I check the actual book is that there’s no reference list in the book. A teen boy wouldn’t care, but to an adult reading this, it would have been very helpful. But that’s the only negative I can think off.

There’s also quite a bit of interviews here, among others the legend Börje Salming!!! Starstruck!

Together with the facts he shares A LOT of his own experiences growing up in a school much like the one I work at with a lot of toxic masculinity and how horrible it made him feel. He splits it all up in various subjects: puberty, tears & feelings, body image, relations, heteronorm & homophobia, sex, view of women, mental health and violence. All these subjects are extremely important!!!

I am glad Yoldas wrote this book. It was incredible! If only I could get the teenboys at this school to read it… *heavy sigh*
