The Gift: What if Christmas gave you what you've always wanted?

Nothing beats the feeling of giving, or receiving, the perfect gift.

The most meaningful gifts we receive make us feel known, loved and valued. And when we give a gift like that, it's like we're putting ourselves in our present. And at Christmas, that's exactly what God did.

This light-hearted and lively book explores how our gift-giving traditions show us a glimpse of a giving God. Evangelist Glen Scrivener helps readers to celebrate the gift of life in a world brimming with beauty, before taking us to John 3:16 to unwrap the Christmas gift that can give us what we've always wanted, and what we really need.

A nice, short, 53-page booklet that pleasantly presents Jesus as he is freely offered in the gospel. It's Christmas-themed and enjoyable to read.

A gift from our church at Christmas. The book does remind us of the ultimate gift to us at this time, Jesus' birth.

Do you like gifts?

Do you like Christmas presents?

How do you react to them?

Glen Scrivener looks at our gift-giving – and especially our Christmas gift-giving, in his book, The Gift: What if Christmas Gave You What You’ve Always Wanted? – and he walks us through the gift-giving dance of “It’s for you,” “You shouldn’t have,” “I wanted to,” and “Thank you.”

Scrivener explains that the same dance that we have with our loved ones is a dance that God has with us regarding the gift He has given us in His Son and the salvation He has merited.

How do we respond?

Does it make gift-giving all the more meaningful to us?

Will you refuse this gift?

A short "giveaway" book that you can read in 30 minutes or less. It does a fantastic job of using the standard Christmas traditions/experiences to get at some of life's deepest questions. Scrivener writes with clarity in an accessible and winsome way that will benefit both those who have followed Jesus for decades and those who are asking questions about God for the first time. In particular, he does a masterful job of portraying the character of God, who is ultimately Who we all need most despite our tendency to think very little about Him.

Short n Sweet. A reminder of the great gift we are celebrating in this season and what our response should be.
Some of the examples could be alienating as the celebration of Christmas doesn’t have a set universal format.

I was gonna rate this a little lower, but chapter four is worth the cost of this small book. It's brevity was also a plus.

Four stars.
