Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Bundle contains the first 4 titles in the Hedgewitches series spinoff from Womby's School for Wayward Witches by Sarina Dorie. Released 7th Nov 2019, it's 492 pages and the bundle is available in ebook format.

Although this is a background story for central characters in the Womby's series, these four books work quite well as standalones together. The author does a good job of filling in the blanks. I had never read her other books, and I had no trouble following the plot or keeping the characters straight in my head.

This bundle is very well written and plotted. The characters are well delineated, believable, and (mostly) sympathetic. It's satisfying when the bad guys get what's coming to them. However. Although this series fits well within the YA/NA genre, there is a lot of graphic violence here. There are mature/horror themes such as death of children, maternal/fetal loss, threatened and actual cannibalism, necrophilia, body horror with cannibalistic plants, murder, self harm, violence, etc.

For Kindle Unlimited subscribers; this bundle (and most of the author's oeuvre) is available in the KU subscription to borrow and download for free. It's also worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

Three and a half - four stars for this bundle overall for me, five for fans of the series who know what they're getting into. It really is quite readable. There were some scenes which were way over the top for me, but would be fine for fans of magical horror.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The Witch of Nightmares (The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Book 1)
If you've read the "Womby's School for Wayward Witches" series, you know Clarissa's adoptive mother Abigail and her cat Lucifer. This series is a prequel to that series, in which we find out more of Abigail's history: how she lost her parents and brothers, met Lucifer, escaped the Fae and became an apprentice to Baba Nata (the same Baba Nata we meet years later when she gives Missy, Clarissa's sister, the prophecy that leads to her death).
I enjoyed reading about the early life of Abigail and look forward to the continuation of her story. You'll enjoy this if you are curious about Abigail and Lucifer, especially why and how he became a cat. There are also episodes before she lost her magic that show how powerful she could have become.
A Cauldron Full of Curses (The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Book 2)
Book 2 continues the early life of Abigail MacQuillan, begun in Book 1, who many years later will become Clarissa Lawrence's adoptive mom. It ties in with Womby's School for Wayward Witches as a kind of prequel that gives greater depth to the story of Abigail and Lucifer. It will be of interest especially to readers of the Womby series. It describes her apprenticeship to Baba Nata, the Witch of Nightmares, three months after the end of Book 1. We learn Lucifer's history, how he suffered as a youth, especially after his brother left with his two sisters. During their apprenticeship, Lucifer and Abigail start to fall in love. They go to the Morty Realm for the first time, to search for a lightning rod to help focus Lucifer's magic. After enjoying a fair, Abigail meets Adam and Grace Lawrence. Their lives are interconnected in the Womby's series. Returning to the Faerie Realm is difficult, they have an iron pipe, but they are weakened by Morty "magic" and pollutants. On the way to the portal, they find a Fae royal and a witchkin abducting three children, whom they rescue by killing their abductors. Now, experienced in killing and heart hardened, Abigail reaffirms her determination to kill the Fae that killed her brothers.
A Pocket Full of Poison (The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Book 3)
Continuing "The Witch of Nightmares" and "A Cauldron Full of Curses" (The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Book 1 and 2), a few weeks after Abigail's adventures in the Morty Realm, Baba Nata decides it's time to teach her Death Magic: poisons. Abigail reaffirms her course of revenge, despite Baba Nata and Lucy's advice to let it go. She learns that to kill your enemies, first gain their trust or love. But love turns out to be a double-edged sword. We learn how and why Abigail was drained of magic. Since she is now of no use to Baba, she has to live in the Morty Realm to be safe from the Fae. If you've read the Womby's School for Wayward Witches series, the Hedge Witches series will be interesting and familiar. It's the story of Abigail, Clarissa's adoptive mom.
The Witch’s Familiar (The Trouble With Hedge Witches Series Book Book 4)
This picks up many years after Abigail and Lucifer came to the Morty Realm, just after Book 3 "Witches Gone Wicked" in the Womby's series. The same story is told in "Hedgewitchin' in the Kitchen".
We find out how Baba's curse transformed Lucifer, how Abby reconnected with Grace and Adam Lawrence (Adam later became her husband). There is a brief section about Abigail growing up in the Morty Realm.
Then Abigail and Lucifer visit Womby's School in the Unseen Realm to tend Clarissa's burns, suffered when she fried Julian Thistledown to stop his attempted rape. Abigail talks with Thatch about reversing the curse on Lucifer, but Thatch cannot help; he cannot even help his sister, Priscilla, revert from her Raven curse. She tries to get Jeb to help, but he is evasive and acts suspiciously. She meets Clarissa's colleagues and students, and interestingly, we see them from Abigail's point of view. Vega plays a prominent role, her usual prickly self, though showing a more vulnerable side occasionally. To find out whether (if so, how; if not, why not) Lucifer ever gets his human form back, you'll have to read through Womby's School for Wayward Witches series to "The Joy of Hex #17. I don't want to spoil the suspense, and the series is well worth reading.

The Trouble with Hedge Witches. It does a great job of establishing who Abigal is and why she believes the way she does. This book is truly well written and will keep you engrossed. The characters are fully fleshed out and Sarina Dorie literally paints pictures with her words. I think anyone who enjoys paranormal fantasy would enjoy this and would consider it suitable for younger readers.
When you're a teenager, you "know" what you want. And you don't want to listen to anyone's advice if it goes against what it is that you want. Abigail will do whatever she has to, to become a strong enough witch to accomplish her plans against the fae. Even apprentice herself to a wicked witch.
Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed with the fourth book as I was with the first three. This one takes place years later and the only way to truly understand everything that's going on is to read Womby's School for Wayward Witches. I can't even say how many books of the series you need to read. In my case, I've only the first three and that doesn't take you anywhere understanding the nuances of comments made by the characters. However, it will give you an understanding of what Womby's has to do with Hedge Witches. It just seemed out of place which won't stop me from continuing with the series. I love the Sarina Dorie writes. She has a way of hooking you right from the start.
This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

This three-book prequel series set in "the Unseen Realm" of Witchkin and Fae mostly fills in the backstory of Clarissa's adopted mother Abby, her apprenticeship to Baba Nata, and time spent with Lucifer before he was a cat. I'm not giving "Lucy's" secret away as readers learn this at the end of the Womby's series arch. The fourth book in the box set is parallel action to Clarissa's own story during her first major injury defending herself and female students from the male professor from the Green Court.

This is an interesting read on its own as Abby and Lucifer endure their own hardships, learn their own lessons, and make their own chioces to shape the adults they will become. I appreciate these additional stories as they strengthen the weave in the fabric that makes up the Unseen Realm and gives weight and history to many of the supporting characters and answers some questions readers may have about why some characters in the later books do and act the way they do. These storys also give clues as to some character's affinitys, family relationships and a reason to re-read through the main Womby series with the benefit of hindsight.

This reader would like to see as many adventures based on characters from the Womby realm and the new (red?) court as Ms. Dorie is willing to weave.

This fabulous bundle contains the background story for the main characters in the Womby's School for Wayward Witches series. The character development is quite interesting and the storylines are well written and somewhat dark with violence, cannibalism, necrophilia, death, revenge, repercussions, magic, and murder. Enjoyable fantasy series

I enjoyed this series. The first three books of the series serve as a prequel to Sarina Dorie’s “Womby's School for Wayward Witches” series, while the fourth book seems to be contemporaneous with the latter series. I only read a couple of the Womby books so far, but they are not necessary for enjoying the “Hedge Witches” series. I generally don’t like the writing style in YA books and this holds for the Hedge Witches as well, but the story, world-building and character development easily compensated for this. If you enjoyed the Womby series, then you will likely enjoy the Hedge Witches series as well.

This bundle includes the first 4 books of the series. This is a spinoff of the Womby's School for Wayward Witches series which is actually a prequel as it tells about the main character's, Clarissa's, mother. The first book starts with Abby at around 14 yoa and her family leaving their home and fleeing the Fae. The rest of the books give an accounting of what happens to her, her family and her seeking revenge.
This series is as good as the original Womby's series. The characters are interesting and the situations are dire. While the stories are about Faeries and Faerie tales, they are dark and violent; not for children.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my voluntary review.

The life of a Familiar Black Cat has never been so exciting!

Lucy to the rescue! Abby's big black cat is indeed a familiar, as those of us who have read the series since Clarissa was a lonely little sister have long suspected.

Abby and Lucy's backstory meshes beautifully to Clarissa's story, adding shadows and color to the whole story.

Sarina Dorie's books speak to a slightly more sophisticated reader than some of the witchy reads I see so much of these days. Thank you!

I can't wait for the next book!

These books are the farthest from my favored genre as you could get but I am hooked! I adore the characters and I miss them all terribly now. I enjoyed this latest series being told from Abigail and Lucy's point of view. That answered some questions I felt had been left opened earlier. There are still so many questions about so many characters and so many stories still to be told! I'm eagerly awaiting the next series!

If you like the Baba Yaga folk tales or the author’s tales of Womby’s School for Wayward Witches you will enjoy this set. That the story eventually ties into part of the back story on Womby’s is all I will say so as not to ruin the surprise. The plot and characters are quirky and wonderful. There’s lots of twists and surprises, both for the reader and the characters in the story.

Very good series

This series is really well written and you want to keep going because you are waiting for the happier ever after. In this series it hasn’t happened yet but the story is good. I have a feeling that it happens later. Still it’s a good story.

This review is going to focus on the Trouble with Hedge Witches 4 book series by Sarina Dorie. I received an eARC of the series through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The first book in this series bundle is The Witch of Nightmares: Dark Fairy Tales of Magic and Mystery. This introductory book introduces readers to the main character, 14-year-old Abigail MacQuillan and her journey with fate. We are introduced to the Morty Realm, the Unseen Realm, and the Fae Realm, each having its own rules about magic. This installment has readers following Abby on her journey to find her lost family. Can she accomplish this while protecting her younger brother, and staying away from dark magic? The second book in the series is A Cauldron Full of Curses: Dark Fairy Tales of Magic and Mystery. This installment follows Abby as she deals with the loss of her family, learning how to use her plant magic, and becoming an apprentice to a wicked hedge witch, Baba Nata. Abby and her friend Lucifer, who is another apprentice of Baba, learn to fight against the Fae that prey upon lost humans.

The third book in this series is A Pocket Full of Poison: Dark Fairy Tales of Magic and Mystery. In this book you will learn that revenge comes at a price.
Readers will follow Abby and Lucifer as they continue to learn how to harness their magic. Baba Nata begins to teach Abby the darker magic that she will need to use against the Fae. How far will Abby go to avenge her brothers? Will she keep the act in her seduction, or fall for a Fae?

The last installment to this series bundle is Abigail Lawrence's Untold Story: The Witch's Familiar, which is also part of Dorie's Womby's School for Wayward Witches series.

This segment takes place almost thirty years after the last book, and Abby has led a life in the Morty Realm, reconnecting with Grace, and her nephew Adam. Over time she marries Adam, and they adopt two daughters. This story focuses on Abigail after she receives news that her twenty-two-year old daughter Clarissa is in danger and recovering from an attack at the school she teaches at.

Lucifer, who has been stuck in cat form for the last thirty years begins to act strange while back in the Unseen Realm and runs away. Much of this story is searching for Lucifer, and trying to find a way to return him to human form. Will she succeed?

This series was an interesting read, and I enjoyed reading about the different plant and animal magic affinities that different characters controlled. I started to lose some interest in Abby's story in the third book because she was so entrenched in her desire to kill the Fae without listening to anything Lucifer would say about how it would change her. I hope you enjoy reading this series. Each installment is a quick, roughly 100 page, read.
Happy reading :)

This bundle includes all novels and stories in The Trouble with Hedge Witches Series a spin-off series of Womby’s School for Wayward Witches:

My Review
This bundle contains four books in one and is a spin-off of the amazing Womby's School for Wayward Witches Series which I love and have read.

The first book - The Witch of Nightmares - starts off with Abigail huddled in the bushes with her brother Emmet. Her main goal is to protect them from the Fae, the witches and the carnivorous plants. Will she succeed or will she fail?

The Second book - A Cauldron Full of Curses - has Abigail as a full-on apprentice to Baba. The thing is she spends her time mending clothes, cooking, gardening, and cleaning - along with gathering medicinal herbs and making of healing salves. Her goal is to become a powerful witch so that she can slay her enemies. In the end will Abigail have love and revenge?

The third book - A Pocket Full of Poison - starts off with Abigail unhappy about cleaning out the cages where baba kept children locked up for her spells. Taking a break she tries to read her tea leaves and sees three possibilities for her future. It's been three years and now she is ready to defeat her enemies. But it may come at a cost.

The Fourth and final book - A Witch's Familiar - starts off with Abigail's daughter in the infirmary after being attached at the magical boarding school. She must put her skills to the test if she wants to find Lucifer. When she is finally reunited with Lucifer she has to make a decision - which one will she choose? We have to be patient until the next installment to find out - can't wait.

This ARC was provided in exchange for my honest opinion. Since I enjoy the Womby Series so much I knew this one would be just as great and I was not disappointed. If you like witch novels filled with shifters, and faeries then this is the book for you. Highly recommend it. I give this a 5 Star.

I liked the first book well enough. It has some good characters and the storyline was different than others. There are some creepy dark Fae and a house make of candy and lost children. Things are not always what they seen. The Witch of Nightmares sets the stage for the second and third books well. It gets dark though as the book goes along. Pain powers magic. Abigail must lose toes and fingers to help her brother. A Cauldron Full of Curses has Abigail making tough choices and the intensity of the darkness grows. Her relationship with the witch's other apprentice gets more physical. I started to have trouble with the graphic nature of it. The victims of the evil are children throughout and it really bothered me. A Pocket Full of Poison is the last of the series. Abigail walks the line between being a good witch and a bad witch. She pretends to be one of those she blames for the death of her family. Just got too creepy and dark. When I was done I researched what others had said and found the descriptions said it was dark. Duh. I missed that.
