2.5 Stars for Silo: Frozen World, Book 2 (audiobook) by Jay J. Falconer and M. L. Banner read by Gary Tiedemann.
I definitely like the other Silo series better. I’ve just spent five minutes trying to figure out if I read the right second book in the series. I’m still not sure. This series seems to have two or three different names. I’m so confused. I think I’m done with the series and the author.
“Silo: Hope’s Return” opens with the death of the Professor and Frost after a Scab attack; Summer Lane being forced to take the leadership role; and Krista taking the Scab girl Dr. Lipton and Horton prisoner on their way back to Nirvana.
Exciting, the intensity and suspense rises as Fletcher mounts phase two of his plan; the Scab girl escapes the truck at Nirvana; and Summer is forced to face her fear of leadership as she confronts a heartbreaking death and the silo comes under attack. With thrilling twists and turns the plot reveals several mysteries like the meeting between the Nomad and his accomplice ; a treacherous alliance; a radio transmission; and someone controlling the Scabs. Action-packed and riveting the story is well-written and intense as Summer struggles to help her people survive the overwhelming odds that threaten them. All too quickly the plot progresses to an explosive ending that promises an electrifying conclusion.
In this book the development of the characters continues as Summer bravely faces her worst fears, gaining confidence in her leadership role; Security Chief Krista Carr shows her honesty and integrity as she helps the young woman accept her new position; and Stanley Fletcher demonstrates a deceitful, underhanded nature in his quest for power.
“Silo: Hope’s Return” is a gripping story you can’t put down until finished. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the concluding novel.
I really enjoyed this series. I loved the plot, the characters and everything in between. I loved that this series was written in multiple POV’s. The characters were unique, the women were strong and confident. The banter between the characters was actually quite fun, even between the bad guys. After the “Event” it’s every man, woman, child and other things for themselves. Trying to determine which group is the strongest, smartest or luckiest is anyones guess. The only problem I had was this, even though the ending was great, there was still a key aspect of this story that didn’t actually close. When I got close to the end I actually started looking for book 4 (which doesn’t exist btw) because there was more story to be told. 🤷🏻♀️ Gary Tiedemann is a new narrator to me and I’m already looking for more of his work. The way he performed these characters was brilliant. It was easy to tell who was speaking just but the way he portrayed each character. Well done! This was a box set books 1-3. I highly recommend this series!
Bai...after I took many years to finish reading the Book 1 and it was ok, onto Bk 2. In the interest of being fair to the writer and their time and effort, I could not bring myself to finish this book. The lead female was just too annoying. I couldn't stand her. The premise that the adult leader upon his dying breath would put a teenager or whatever she was in charge of the silo was weak at best, but have mercy, I just couldn't get past it in this book. They kept harping on that as like a cornerstone or something. And the level of illness with the cannibalism angle and reusing genetically engineered for meat...that's a NO from me. I tried to get past certain plot holes, but nah. On a disappointing note, to reach however far I did and not know what caused the apocalyse situation in the first place...smh. Total let down.
Living in a Titan II missile silo in the post apocalyptic dystopian future is bad for your health!
So is getting caught and eaten by the cannibalistic mutants everywhere else! Summer doesn't have much choice, but choose she must. No spoilers, no in-depth analysis, just simple truth - this book was damn good! Storyline is amazing, the characters are terrifying, amusing, typical - you got it, just like normal people that you know well.
The collaboration of Banner and Falconer continues to provide a great read. Can't wait till book 3.
End of the world as we know it plot and rebuilding is 'only the strongest survive.' Profanity, perversion, and gore but outside of that it is a pretty good book as are the 1 and 3 books in the series. And it ends (as do all of this author's work) with a lead in to next novel and, sometimes, a satisfying partial ending...without that and all of ADULT content (?!?) it would have been a four star rating.
What the hell?! You seriously need to keep your head on a swivel because you don't know what's coming. Or where it's coming from. And you definitely don't know who to trust. Cheese and rice. I NEED THE 3rd book!!!
The characters are childish and immature. The plot of the series accelerated too quick and the fun from the first book became a frustrating enterprise to follow. I felt more pot committed to reading the third book than an actual desire to do so.
This series had some promise until the zombie apocalypse became too much for me. It wasn’t as bad in the first book but by the 2nd it just seemed ridiculous. Feral humans I can grasp, manufactured zombies not so much.
