Entangling: Book One of the Kirin Lane Series

Rate this book
Can she find her mother’s killer? Or will he find her first?

When Kirin Lane’s father dies, it means nothing to her. Why should it? It’s been thirty years since he abandoned her after her mother’s death. But when her house is ransacked and sinister men pursue her, Kirin is forced to look to the only thing he left her for answers—a tattered Marine Corps field manual.

Inside, she discovers clues that could unlock the mystery surrounding her mother’s murder, if only she can follow the cryptic information. She finds an ally in the charming and mysterious Sam Neal, who both infuriates and awakens feelings she can’t resist. But can she trust him?

Sam Neal is determined not to fall for Kirin. He can’t. It’s a clause in his contract, and he never breaks a promise. But he knows too much about her. Her strength and sexy pigheadedness drive him crazy in the best of ways. Suddenly, Sam’s thinking less about obligations and more about allowing a certain woman inside his world.

But with nothing as it appears and her life on the line, can Kirin untangle what really happened to her mother thirty years ago?

Or will the killer’s next victim be her?

I was given an ARC for a honest review. Entangling was everything and so much more. Kelley truly delivered a heroine that was badass and yet that had the soft side. I loved the characters and every facet of them from the good, the bad, and the ugly. Kelley has a way of making her imperfect characters truly perfect. So if you are ready to meet Sam and Kirin then I urge you to read this book, Kelley delivers a story with epic proportions of heart, grit and intensity.

Kirin is a widowed mother of 2 boys who finds out that his estranged father has passed away leaving her a misterious book and a strange connection with dangerous lowlife. This leaves Kirin trying to figure out what really happened in their past and to know who killed her mother.
This was a fun, easy read. I liked the plot and the twists in this book, and also the mix of romance and suspence.
The love story seemed a bit rushed, but overall the book was enjoyable.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I live in Tennessee so I was super excited to get my hands on this book and read about a mystery in my hometown. I read a lot of thriller so I saw a lot of the twists coming but I didn’t see every detail which was nice. It’s a good story with a really neat plot I haven’t seen done before with a marine’s manual. Over all it was a good story and I look forward to reading the second one!

I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. While reading this spectacular book, I was immediately immersed in Kirin’s life. I was hooked on page one! It was awesome to watch her grow and develop as a character all throughout the story. There was just enough comedy to keep it balanced, but plenty of mystery to keep those pages turning. All of the characters were well written, and kept me guessing where they truly fit into Kirin’s life. Typically, I like to try to figure out the “ah ha!” moment before the author reveals the full story. I was not able to do this with Entangling, though, as Griffin kept me wondering at every turn and reveal. This is an awesome story, and I highly recommend the read!

I loved the mystery and plot twists in this book. The protagonist is a strong willed female who has a level head and handles her business. My only issue was the love story. It felt a rushed and not truly authentic. The character development was pretty good, but I would have liked to have more back story on Sam.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book and I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Had me hooked from the begining!

This is book one from Kelley Griffin! What a great accomplishment! Writting a novel, finding someone to edit and publish and market must be exhausting!
The reaon I reflected on the writing challenges is because I read 25 books a month! This novel captured my attention immediately and I knew I had to discover what the hell was going on!
The person of Sam was made to be a protector but also a duplicitous person with a shadowy nature!
Kirin was a small women who was prettuy strong, resilient and stubborn! She was so precious and sweet, but had this reckless mindset that frequently just made matters worse! Situational awareness was not in her nature! Shr also had tendency to humilate herself with nervous bumbling around a certain someone.... she supposedly hated, but loved at the same time! She was so much fun as a beautiful but flawed woman in terrifying circumstaces! Thank god Sam was always there to lift her up and save her muultiple times!
The quesfion become painfully obvious; is Sam a good guy or very bad man!
The reader knows and all the other characters aren't in on the answer!
The other charecters are well developed and delightful! This is one of the best first novels I've read!
Congratulations to Kelley Griffin, but also the readers who are enriched by reading Entangled!
I immediately purchased the next book in the series which is an extention of the first! A duet yes, but Entangled was a complete book. I knew the story continued but readers had a satisfying ending to the book which was not predicated on reading the next book! But readers you will undoubtedly want to rush to get the next book Untangled!
5 stars for a compelling plotline, romance and well written manuscript!

This plot was captivating! I loved the vivid writing style; I was immediately taken to Kirin's world. The story builds as Kirin discovers that she is being followed by multiple people after her dad passes away and leaves her a book with clues along with a large sum of money.

Her dad had abandoned her after her mom died in a car explosion when she was 8, and she was raised by her aunt and uncle. She was very angry with her dad for leaving her.

The story is set during her late 30s, a widow with 2 small children. She meets a guy at the grocery store who awakens romantic notions for the first time since her husband passed away. As it turns out, he has followed her since her husband passed by orders of her estranged dad & his archenemy.

She has to crack the code of her dad's book before someone steals it. She is brave and up to the challenge. Along the way, she faces many challenges but also finds love.

My biggest pet peeve about the book was the poor editing. There were many incomplete sentences, clauses written as sentences, and poor comma placement. There were enough that it interfered with my ability to enjoy the read since I continually had to reread those sections to make sense. Also, I am dying to know how Kirin is pronounced. In my head, I settled on Corinne as the closest name pronunciation!

Fast- Paced suspense and a relatable lead character pulled me in!

This book had just what I was looking for; fast-paced suspense, romance, and a strong lead character. It pulled me in quickly and the plot and twists made it hard to put down. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish it had been a little longer. I really liked the characters and the plot but it had so much going on and so many characters and events to tie together that it almost seemed a bit rushed at times. Given the complexity of the storyline, I feel like the book would have gone from very good to next level had the situations and clues been given a little more time to unfold making them more believable. Some events and connections just seemed to happen unnaturally fast.
Overall, I found this to be a very entertaining read and am looking forward to starting book 2 right now!

I really enjoyed the story, but the quality of writing was just okay. Griffin could use an editor with a sharper pen to clean up her writing and make this story shine. As such, there were times when I felt like I was slogging through to get to the good stuff. The good stuff was definitely in there, but really had to work for it. On a personal note, as a Knoxville native, I loved reading a story set in my hometown. I will give the sequels a shot, but will have a better expectation for the quality of writing and editing going forward.

I met the author twice at different events so I have signed books 🤩 Yay!! I enjoyed the book; especially looking up all the local places mentioned in the book 🗺️ I loved the cover 👁️, Sam & Kirin’s relationship😍, and her family/friends/neighbor 🥰 My only disappointment was all the build up 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨 and spark ⚡️ between Kirin and Sam only to fall flat in the sack…I wasn’t expecting erotica but it didn’t have enough details for all the build up 😭 Off the read #2 🏃‍♀️‍➡️ Fingers crossed it’s steamier 🤞🏻

Entangling is a very predictable story and the romance was forced instead of flowing with the main part of the story. The author was able to create a predictable romantic suspense with likeable characters. The romance is forced and rushed though the story.

With that being said it is a easy summer read you can finish on a plan ride or sitting by the pool.

Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of Kelley Griffin Entangling.

I met Kelly Griffin at the Tennessee Readers Convention, and she was so kind and passionate about her work! I really enjoyed this book it kept me on my toes and still has me wondering what is next for Kirin. I will say the pacing was a little rushed at times and too slow in other parts, but I will be continuing the series! I loved all the cameos of Knoxville and east Tennessee that was so fun it made the story feel more realistic. Definitely an Author to keep an eye on!

My second read of this author and I’m hooked! I read this in 2 days- had to know what happened next with Kirin. And I have to say, I had a surprise at the end that made me laugh out loud that I hadn’t seen it coming- awesome! Am starting book 2 immediately.

Highly recommend if you like a good story with mystery, suspense, and some romance! Thank you Kelley!!

Absolutely obsessed! I cannot wait to read the next two in the series. This book keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat, but still has the comfort of a romance. There’s many relatable aspects in Kirin, which makes it even better! This is one of my must reads and I’ve suggested it to everyone I know. Kelley’s ability to portray a story you can visualize is immaculate!

Very well done! This was the kind of book I started to become Kirin. I came home and worried bc we left a door unlocked. I put the book down and wondered what the characters were doing while I was away. Bravo!

I was introduced to this author while on vacation this summer in Destin. I was loving Kirin within the first pages of this book. She was a normal Mom figure with 2 boys & I can relate. This book kept me intrigued & I couldn’t read it fast enough. The author writes her characters in a way we can all relate. And she adds witty comments that would make me giggle while reading. I loved it so much I read all three books in the series within 4 days. Kelley Griffin is an author I will continue to read as long as she writes.
