Erotic Fiction?

Rate this book

There’s nothing sexy about her humdrum life as a mum. But is her husband’s
crazy scheme a bit too exciting?

Sarah’s mind-numbing housewife existence is turning her brain to mush. With her
third bun in the oven, this British mum is drowning under a mountain of playdates,
bills, and head lice checks. But her man’s get-rich-quick idea of writing steamy
novels isn’t her ideal way to dial up life’s passion.
Drew desperately wants a break from Sarah’s whinging. And if that means
researching how to write racy books all by himself, then he’ll make the sacrifice. But
as he finally warms Sarah up to the sultry side hustle, their R-rated private project
gets publicly exposed…
With an office scandal brewing, it’s only a matter of time before gawking workers
and a perfectly nosy PTA president turn them into social pariahs.
Can Sarah and Drew earn some extra income from sizzling lit without falling prey to
stiff gossip?
Erotic Fiction is a charming comedy for fans of humorous fiction. If you like sweet
love stories, endearing characters, and dry British humor, then you’ll adore Kindle

Favorite Quotes:

All the underwear she owned that could have been considered even remotely sexy was now either ripped or stained or just so small that pulling them on was likely to cut off the circulation to somewhere.

‘Mind Birthing?’ ‘Uh-huh.’ Nelly drank her tea with her eyebrows raised. ‘You know, it’s one of those hippy things. Birth isn’t painful. It’s just a manifestation of all the love we are squeezing out of our vagina type bull*.’ ‘That does sound like bull*.’ ‘But it’s free.’ Sarah’s head cocked with interest.

My Review:

This fun and sassy tale kept me smirking, which combined with an occasional bark of irrepressible gleeful laughter that was escaping my mouth while in a public waiting room led to a total stranger inquiring as to the title. Um, should I have been embarrassed to call up a title such as Erotic Fiction? Nope, not this girl. Although I did take pity and clarified it was the actual title of a humorous story and not the genre when she blanched and blinked.

The engaging storylines were entertaining and relatable with highly amusing inner musings, snarky observations, and comical scenarios from the POV of an exhausted married couple living through the less than glamorous aspects of childrearing and family life while ensconced in a tiny sticky house with small tenacious children who tend to bring home pestilence from their school mates as well as cause an ever-increasing level of credit card fatigue and school activity fees as insurmountable as the national debt.

This was my first time reading the beguiling scribblings of Hannah Lynn and I adored her crisp and savvy style and reveled in her wry wit with unbridled delight. Her secondary characters were as deftly written and just as much fun to read as her primary protagonists. I am besotted with her irreverent and clever humor and have added her entire listing to my wish list.

5☆ Laugh Out loud Funny, Unputdownable Read!

Erotic Fiction? is so funny I thoroughly enjoyed it and it had me captivated and laughing out loud the whole way through!

If you think this book is going to be all about sex then think again!

It's a clever, witty, fun story about a struggling family and a loving hubby Drew trying to help his wife get her creative juices flowing again after reading an article about how Erotic Fiction made the Author a fair amount of money.

Sarah is desperate need to pay off some debts and move into a bigger house! So what better way than writing to make some quick money!

He believes anyone can write Erotic Fiction....Even Him! Lol and to be fair he's not doing a bad job, especially when he gets his wife Sarah on side to help.

I loved the family dynamics of Sarah and Drew, she's struggling with two children and one on the way she's tired and the lil mishaps make their story even more relatable and some of the stories had me giggling out loud!

Without a doubt one of my funniest books I've read in a long time. It's quirky, relatable and loveable characters, had me laughing out loud the whole way through, the whole premise of writing Erotic Fiction was a fantastic idea and really worked well, I loved all the family drama.
This is my first encounter with Hannah Lynn and I can't wait to read more!

So if your looking for a fun, easy read with plenty of mishaps, drama, and humour with a bit of spice then Erotic Fiction? is definitely The book for you!

Easily without a doubt the funniest book I've read this year so far, and certainly the most entertaining. Almost the whole book had me grinning, giggling and generally finding it really amusing.

To start it feels like a rom com with a parenting theme to it - we have Sarah who is pregnant with baby number three, Drew her husband and George and Eva their young children. Sarah is predominately a stay at home mum and could do with some stimulation in her life. Drew is busy at work but then comes across what could be a brainwave on how they could both earn some extra money.

But whoever said writing Erotic Fiction would be easy. There are some truly classic scenes in this book, including one at the post office, the whole of the finale that had me gripped (and made me glad I wasn't reading on a tube for once, as I would have probably never notice my stop, I was that absorbed).

Oh and Barry, who works with Drew, well life would have been simpler without Barry, he is an IT nightmare, and let's just say he manages to not only mess up his own computer, but when offered Drew's press enough things seemingly randomly to cause a potential cat-astrophe, similar to a situation that had involved a cat photo already and a full contacts list.

Then there are the kids, especially Eva who is 3 and a bundle of energy. Even in the night in her parents bed there were descriptions that made me laugh really early on.

Given the title there is s distinct lack of erotica and very little sex generally in the book, its more hinted at, but some of Drew's ideas for this book they are writing are great, and others well they needed a bit of spicing up.

This is the first book I've read by the author, and I knew even from the title and blurb that there was a very good chance I'd enjoy it, and it exceed even those expectations. This was 200% my sort of book from cover to cover, and I loved every last second of it.

Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,

“So outrageously funny you'll laugh your knickers off!”
Sarah and Drew have two children and a third on the way. They have very little spare time, even less spare cash and more than a chaotic household Sarah used to work as a translator from home but with two children she hasn’t had a chance to get back to it. Drew stumbles upon an idea to make them some money when he accidentally sees an article about the naughty nanny series of books. Having failed to convince Sarah to write , he takes it upon himself in secret to write his first erotic fiction novel. I was laughing most of the way through this. A household that has an orange child (from pasta sauce), a husband who is engrossed in his “work”, a school mum is practically perfect in every way and a work colleague who thinks Paul McCarteny is dead.. This is a very easy and highly enjoyable read with a smile on every page.

Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources, and Hannah Lynn for this free copy. All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication.

I’m not gonna lie. This had me cracking up just like the little blurb said I would. I think about the mom life, and while I’m not a mom to human kids, I could only imagine how stressful it is staying at home with them all day. For me, it’s easy with the dogs because we can just sleep and wake up and cuddle and go back to sleep. Nothing really hard for me, and the dogs can keep themselves occupied because there’s four of them.

So with the idea of writing steamy smut to make some side income, I totally get that. I personally can’t write smut and I don’t know if I would want to use my personal experience as the inspiration for said smut, but hey. You gotta do what you gotta do. I personally thought it was cool that Drew somehow got Sarah to be more comfortable with this idea. I don’t even know if I could even do that! So this was fun to read because I got to escape my own life and marriage for a bit, and see what it would be like to write some snarky smut with my partner. Although I would be really pissed off if someone else in my world decided to basically shut shame me for trying to make some extra income like that. And hello? It’s not like it’s it was porn or anything. It’s just writing. How many romance novels write sex scenes in their novels? You know??

But anyway. I think this book got really interesting and again I thought this was pretty fun.

Money makes the world go around, doesn’t it?

I could totally relate to the theme in this story about lack of funds. Hocus pocus, I’m brokus! springs to mind *smirks*. Don’t even think of mentioning my book buying habit *wags finger*.

With their third little one due in a few short months, Sarah has made an art form out of juggling the family’s tight finances. (As my mum used to say, every penny is a prisoner! *snorts*) Never mind having to deal with Mrs ‘All-My-Eggs-Are-Double-Yolked’ at the school gates and toddler group *palms face*. Talk about giving you a complex!

Poor Drew, he really is clueless. Blinkered? You could say that *laughs*. From his POV, everything in the garden is rosy. Oh, to live in your own wee bubble.

After having his very own ‘lightbulb’ moment, Drew thinks he has found the answer to all of Sarah and his money worries. Pen their own erotic fiction novel and watch those royalties roll on in! *shakes head* If only it were that simple...

What follows is a comedy of errors as Drew embraces his new venture with complete gusto (tongue firmly in cheek!).

I think I giggle-cringed for the majority of this story. It was a hoot! And, for me, there were two scenes that stick in my memory (and will for some time!) where I full-on belly laughed. Just thinking about them now is giving me the giggles. One word: chafing! *snorts* (*shouts* someone throw me that metaphorical cushion!)

Hannah Lynn is a new-to-me author and has firmly cemented herself on my watch list. EF? was an easy read with engaging and relatable characters which left me with a smile on my face.

I would’ve loved for there to have been a second epilogue to the epilogue. I know, I know! I’m a greedy reader, lol. But I have questions...

Alright, alright – I’m going... bye for now.

I was going to say I was surprised how very much I enjoyed this one. The trials and tribulations of a struggling mum of two, a third on the way, really isn’t often a subject I’d gravitate towards – but in Hannah Lynn’s very capable hands, I absolutely loved it.

The characterisation is superb – poor Sarah, I just adored her. And although Drew, fixated on his phone screen, slightly reluctantly taking his turn with the parenting, didn’t look like a promising character at first, I grew to love him too. He’s just an ordinary bloke, doing his best – and then he gets his big idea that might just provide the family with a chance of changing their lives for the better. While he spends his commute – and his every spare moment – writing the next steamy bestseller, Sarah continues to wrestle with the day-to-day challenges of being a heavily pregnant mother. Until Drew’s writing begins to falter, and she gets involved too – first as his editor, then writing chapters of her own. But sending a chapter she’s proud of to Drew’s work e-mail might not be the best idea she ever had…

The subsidiary characters are quite superb too – Drew’s workplace is full of them, particularly the predatory female (or is she – Drew’s not at all sure) and Barry, the useless-with-computers guy who has a hand in sending their lives spiralling out of control. The horrendous school gates super-mum, whose mission in life seems to be highlighting Sarah’s inadequacies, is quite wonderful too – a really fantastic bit of characterisation, and an individual I’m sure many mums will recognise only too well.

Some of the set pieces are just fantastic, and extremely funny – the visit to the chemist, the parcel at the post office that needs to be opened and inspected (I defy anyone not to laugh out loud at that one), the office party – but she also manages to introduce real poignancy at times, quite brilliantly done. And the book’s finale is a real piece of writing magic – breakneck speed, edge-of-your seat writing, bits of incongruous detail that are simply inspired, so perfectly written.

I really did love every moment of this wonderful book – and its characters so captured my heart, I do really hope the author will allow them another outing. Quite wonderful, and really highly recommended.

I read the synopsis for 'Erotic Fiction?' and it certainly sounded like the sort of light hearted, funny, romantic read that I was in desperate need of at that moment in time. The book was everything that I had hoped it would be and so much more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Erotic Fiction?' but more about that in a bit.
It's no exaggeration to say that I was hooked from the moment I read the synopsis alone and the story sealed the deal as it were. The synopsis alone made me chuckle away to myself as I imagined the shenanigans that were described. I was drawn into the story by the time I got to the end of the first few pages. From then on, reading 'Erotic Fiction?' became an addiction and it was an addiction that I wasn't willing to break. As I mentioned previously, I was in need of a tonic and this book provided that tonic. It gave me a reason to chuckle when there wasn't much positivity in my life. I charged through the story. I had tried to pace myself to prolong my enjoyment of the story but that attempt at pacing myself soon flew out of window because I was enjoying the book too much to put it down.
'Erotic Fiction?' is well written. The author certainly knows how to grab your attention with a funny synopsis and then she draws you into the story. From the moment I read the synopsis to the moment I closed the back cover as it were, I was chuckling away to myself and on occasion I even laughed out loud, which got me some strange looks from the other bus passengers. Hannah has a fun and easy going writing style that reads just like a conversation between friends. I hope that makes sense. Hannah writes so warmly that I felt as though I was part of the story myself.
In short, 'Erotic Fiction?' is a light hearted, funny read, which I will definitely be recommending to other readers. I look forward to reading more of Hannah's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

This is a delightful, charming read with sweet characters and a great storyline!!!!

Sarah and Drew live a hectic life, just making ends meet. When Sarah discovers she is pregnant with their third child, she isn’t quite sure how they can manage. Not to mention, her plate is already full raising her two other children and looking at unattainable dream houses. She is just beginning to carve out some time for herself with her oldest son off to school.

Drew works as an analyst at an online supermarket. Like Sarah, he thought they would have time for more adventure before having children. He comes up with an idea...to make money and get Sarah’s creative juices flowing again..they could write an erotic novel together. She refuses, but that doesn’t stop him. He begins writing himself, and after some time, Sarah gets on board. What ensues is hilarity!!!! I just LOVED it...from the Google searches to everything else they encounter!!!

I enjoyed how the characters continually developed throughout the book. They each grew so much! I enjoyed seeing their writing process!!! I also thoroughly watching these two work together. They make a great team, and they are both so FUNNY!!!!

I love the author’s sense of humor. It comes through in every single page, starting from the very first page with her note to readers. I knew I was going to love her from that moment, and I wasn’t wrong! I love discovering new authors to me, and I can’t wait to read more from her!

The cover does not lie- this is indeed a funny book, the funniest parts are definitely the very dry observations of normal life for normal people...from the incessant demands of young children to the problems of late pregnancy, that dreadful woman at the school gates that you try (and fail) to avoid every day and the constant struggle for money.
I really like the fact that it was Drew who found himself drawn into the possibilities of writing erotic fiction to make extra cash and how he dreamed big with figures in the tens of thousands in his mind as he clunkily begins the saga of the air hostess, in top secret fashion without letting his wife Sarah know.
Once Sarah finds out she steps in to help with the editing (a veritable thesaurus of thrusting and boobs!) and even writes a chapter herself.
With great comic timing and a brilliant preamble the work of fiction goes public and the initial consequences seem devastating to both Sarah and Drew.
A great read, very funny, very gentle, great characters who you really root for and an ending that leaves you desperate to find out more!

Hilariously funny!!! Sarah and Drew newly married when baby number 1 was conceived. Shortly after his birth their second child was born, and then quickly Sarah became pregnant again. They are a typical couple with a mortgage, car loan, bills, and credit cards, but Sarah is a stay at home mom, and eight months pregnant. She is tired and frustrated at the end of the day. She gets no time for herself, and hates the small house they are living in. Drew buries his head in the sand. He is at work all day and when home is on his phone all the time and doesn’t really listen to her complaints or try to understand. But then he gets an idea how they can make more money; by writing an erotic book together. From there the story gets so funny. Erotic emails sent to multiple people by accident, sex toys ordered online and opened in public, and more. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this very British romantic comedy, full of laugh out loud moments, poignant interludes and witty retort.

Sarah is a stay-at-home-mum, expecting her third child, and wondering if she will ever see beyond the sleepless nights and tantrums. Drew loves his family, but wants to give them more, he wants Sarah to smile again, and quite by chance he finds an unusual avenue to improve the family bank balance.

This is a well-paced, easy to read, tale about children, financial struggles, marriage, parenting and relationships. It is written with vivid characters and events, that lets you visualise what is happening, it's almost like watching a quintessentially Britsih sitcom, familiar, funny and farcical.

The plot is simple but effective and provides the perfect foil for the excellent characters, Sarah and Drew are relatable and easy to like, the cast of supporting players are noteworthy and give the story, authenticity and quirkiness that is appealing.

If you enjoy finding the humour in everyday life, with just a touch of fantasy, this story is recommended.

On a dreary winter's day this book was just the tonic I needed.
This book is laugh out loud funny and whilst the key plot of innovative and risque fiction writing is funny, it was the way that the daily chaos of family life was portrayed that had me guffawing the most; I think, perhaps it showed me scenes that were disturbingly recognisable!
I have read several of Hannah Lynn's books now and I always know that I am going to find characters that I warm to and take into my heart and this book is no exception. Drew and Sarah were endearing but - dare I say it - I love Barry!

Oh lord! How silly can they be? You'll love Sarah and Drew

The story is very entertaining and the characters are so fully explained and you get to know them so well that you would like to help them!
I was very intrigued about the bit on writing the book and how it will work and I was happily surprised at how funny everything around the book evolved. Even in the post office!
I love all of Hannah Lynn's books :)

It was hilarious :) And refreshing. Because real life can be crazy and relationships are much more than this pre-children, pre-mortgage phase. Those characters love each other in a real-life way. It's not something that we read very often.

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

HM Lynn is wonderful at depicting the dynamics of relationships and families. Like her Peas and Carrots series [which if you haven't read - I highly recommend], she is able to capture those little moments which seem so important at the time, which are in actuality very trivial and funny. While the title of the book is Erotic Fiction? - this is not erotica. It is an enjoyable, funny, and very entertaining story of a couple who find themselves in financial straits after discovering their third child is on the way while their small house is falling apart; their credit cards are stretched to the limits; and their expenses keep increasing.

The narrator, Charlie Sanderson, is terrific. She has a delightful British accent and wonderful comedic timing.

Drew and Sarah are stuck in a rut. Short of money and cramped in a too-small house, with two young children and another on the way, there seems to be no way out of their sticky financial situation. That is, until Drew is inspired to start writing erotic fiction. Before long, he ropes Sarah in to edit and co-write, and all looks promising until their secret project is revealed.
I found this book light-hearted and thoroughly enjoyable. Drew and Sarah were likeable characters and there was plenty to relate to in their situation. The writing is witty and well-paced, and I sped through the book, eager to know how things would turn out for Sarah and Drew. I will keep my fingers crossed for a sequel: although this was my first encounter with Hannah Lynn’s books, I hope it won’t be the last.

The attention to detail was good as were the characters which were well developed too.

It is funny at times and had me laughing, it is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!

Sarah is a stay at home mum, pregnant with a baby number three and feeling unchallenged as a housewife and with lack of career. Her husband Drew is a lovely, hard - working guy who tries to help as much as he can but it often isn't enough. They're struggling financially but then, one day, Drew has an excellent idea that could bring them more money - to write an erotic fiction novel. And when Sarah declines, he decides to write it himself.

The author has done a great job in describing the relationship between Sarah and Drew, making it feel really realistic, capturing well the factor that made the marriage drift apart a little. There was so much going on, with two young children and third on the way, with Drew working but the money being always too short, and them both eventually feeling neglected and misunderstood. Then there is of course the one perfect yummy - mummy, so perfect that I wanted to bang her head on the wall, I tell you, and Sarah's reactions to her were absolutely hilarious.
I think that Drew was the hero of this story, even if he didn't start very promising at the beginning, looking like your typical working dad, glued to his phone and helping occasionally with the children. Oh no. Yes, he was doing his best and then he had this - in his opinion - brilliant idea, and I adored how fierce and consequent he was.

She has also managed to add depth to this, on the surface, very light - hearted story, balancing the lighter moments with the more serious ones, and I must say that it went smoothly and successfully, she did here very well.

However, very sadly, this book didn't work for me as it did for so many other reviewers and readers, so probably it's a case of "it's not you, it's me". I didn't find it so humorous, to be honest, it didn't make me laugh and for me it was dragging on too much. I didn't feel any connection to the characters and I wasn't invested in the plot. I loved the synopsis, it was so promising but it simply didn't live up to my expectations. I think there was so much potential, and the plot was absolutely refreshing and unique, but for me it simply lacked in delivery. It felt too forced, as if the author tried too much, and you could easily feel the lack of authenticity, let's just take the scene at the post office - I mean, really? Sadly. I can't change my feelings. But this novel has many raving reviews and people seem to really like it, so don't let me put you off reading it, you may love it.

Nevertheless, it was a light - hearted read with a great idea behind. The writing was well - rounded and the characters were well developed, and probably many of the readers will be able to relate to them and their situation, and yes, they felt so human, with all their problems and troubles, being stuck in a bit of rut, and wanting a little more from life, heck, deserving more from life! It was my first book by Hannah Lynn and I will for sure have a look at her other novels.

Originally reviewed for Chick Lit Central (www.chicklitcentral.com)

This was a unique experience where writing erotic novels comes into play. Ordinarily, we read about a woman who is taking that venture on, but in this case, it’s a man who takes those steps! With that comes an interesting collaboration between Drew and Sarah, when the normal response would be to shy away from racy or sexual things from one or both partners.

When the couple takes it on, they go full force, and in doing so they find out a lot about one another. I appreciated that lens, because much of the focus leading up to that has been on what has been the contributing factor on the distance in their marriage. It’s understandable, considering how much they have going on, how both feel neglected, that there isn’t enough time in the day to do it all. Plenty of parents and couples can relate to their situation, and can find a lot of similarities in how Sarah feels as a stay at home mother, trying to keep her head above water while feeling compared to the “perfect” mothers in her world. (There’s one in particular, and those exchanges are pretty funny) There’s also Drew’s full-time employment with many stressors on his shoulders, wanting desperately to support his family at all costs. Their writing collaboration feels like a much-needed break from all of it, a ray of unconventional hope.

Through it all, the reader is introduced to hilarious humility for both characters. There were a few particular scenarios, particularly with Sarah at the post office, which really got me going! It was an unexpected situation, but one that really added to the type of chaos that she endures, and even though she doesn’t realize it, she deals with it through a lot of grace. Drew’s office antics with coworkers added a layer of funny sarcasm to the idiot coworker trope, as he often experiences with one guy in particular who acts as a catalyst for Drew in more ways than one. All of it gave way to a lightheartedness that was needed in order to balance out some of the heaviness that comes from life’s monotony.

Given the humor, the truth behind the struggling marriage, and the really unique plot, it was inevitable for me to give Erotic Fiction? five stars!

What can I say about this story? Seriously I enjoyed this book from the first word, on the first page. The story of Sarah and Drew is filled with laugh out loud and even relatable moments. Moments that will have you remembering when you have done the exact same thing.
I found this book was well written and very hard to put down. It is so easy to get stuck in Sarah and Drew's world. From learning about their family, work life and children, there are so many moments that keeps you the reader turning the page and reading more. You will soon find that you fly through the 33 chapters of this book. Not only that, but the basis of them writing a steamy book is brilliant. Through the researching, the writing and the benefits it is a thoroughly entertaining book to read.
Overall i thoroughly enjoyed this book, though I have to say I wish it ended in a different place. Would have loved an epilogue showing a few months down the line from where it actually ended. Apart from that there was nothing I didn't enjoy about this book.

Erotic Fiction? is an easy, enjoyable and light-hearted read that really doesn’t have any explicit content for anyone who might be a bit worried about this from the title.

Sarah and Drew are stuck in a rut. Well Sarah is, and Drew is blissfully ignorant and content with his life. Sarah is heavily pregnant with child number 3 and just wants life to be easier, without making do just in order to make ends meet. Then Drew stumbles upon a bright idea and tries to surprise Sarah….but just how hard can writing erotic fiction actually be? From here the story starts to get really funny and there were a few absolute laugh out loud moments. The characterisation is really good, with some of them adding brilliantly to the comedy of the story. Definitely well worth a read.

I read and enjoyed the Peas, Carrots series by Hannah Lynn and thought I would give this a go. It’s a good read with a different feel to the Peas, Carrots books, but just as funny in places.
Sarah and Drew are in a rut with their marriage and not listening to each other’s needs. Sarah is pregnant and wanting to move up in the world or, at least, to a bigger place and to have a more supportive husband. Drew has happened upon Naughty Nanny and sees pound signs, which may or may not help balance their bank account.

It’s at this point that Erotic Fiction ups the pace and there are some real laugh out loud moments. I loved the ups and downs as they head towards the hoped-for peak of success. We don’t find out how the book does, which is a shame but it leaves room for a sequel.
