Sherri Gragg is a Tennessee girl who spent 18 years reading theology books and scribbling in journals in between cooking dinner, managing homework, chauffeuring the masses to soccer practice and shouting things she never thought she would ever say like- "Do NOT put your hand in the toilet!"

She was doing all of these things for her five children while becoming a writer and waiting for her miraculous big break. Each day, just before she opened the mailbox, she would turn to her children and say- "Today could be the day. Today could be the day something wonderful is in here!"

And, at last, that day has come...

Arms Open Wide will be released by Thomas Nelson Publishers in May, 2013.

The perfect devotional to read during this Advent season. I love how it is written - voice of a novel! We all know and love this story, but this retelling is so beautiful! I planned to read one a day until Christmas but couldn’t help myself as it was a page turner!

This was a nice summary of God’s plan of redemption from the garden of Eden to the birth of Jesus. I enjoyed the storytelling aspect, it made it easy to imagine what life might’ve looked like for each Bible character covered. Some parts were too much in terms of creative license, taking what the Bible says and completely re-writing it. There were also some facts that were inaccurately retold from Scripture.

“The scarlet ribbon of redemption was carried by ordinary men and women throughout the corridors of history until, at last, it came to rest in a manger in Bethlehem.” - Sherri Gragg
Wow. This book is such a beautifully written story, from God’s first spoken word to the fulfillment of His promise in Christ. I think it will be an annual read for me!

Advent: The Story of Christmas is a vivid chronicle of God’s redemption of man. A 31 day journey through Scripture, author Sherri Gragg takes each day’s reading and crafts rich tableaus of the people and events that bridged the fall of man in Eden and his salvation through the birth of Jesus. It’s really quite interesting how she takes various figures through-out the Bible and connects them to the love and faithfulness of God. And a number of the passages are directly tied into the themes of Advent. Additionally, as a devoted scholar Gragg has done extensive research to provide authentic cultural details that really bring the passages to life. A remarkably engaging read, Advent: The Story of Christmas offers a new, fuller way of seeing the birth of Christ.
