Born into hell. Baptism by betrayal.

His life revolves around violence. My life is on the line.

I'm trapped both physically and emotionally. A pawn in a game I didn't know I was playing.

Until I met him.

Pike acts without emotion, but I know he feels something for me. I see it in his eyes when he looks at me. I feel it when he's close.

I know it's real because I feel it too.

Lust. Desire. It complicates everything.

I'm part of Pike's plan for revenge.

What he doesn't know is that he's part of mine.

T.M. (Tracey Marie) Frazier never dreamed that a single person would ever read a word she wrote when she published her first book. Now, she is a eight-time USA Today bestselling author and her books have been translated into numerous languages and published all around the world.

T.M. enjoys writing what she calls ‘wrong side of the tracks romance’ with morally corrupt anti-heroes and ballsy heroines.

Her books have been described as raw, dark and gritty. Basically, what that means, is while some authors are great at describing a flower as it blooms, T.M. is better at describing it in the final stages of decay.

She loves meeting her readers, but if you see her at an event please don’t pinch her because she's not ready to wake up from this amazing dream.

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” - Albert Einstein

This was a particularly timely story that T.M. Knight had started in the first book (Pike). The beginning of the story was published in March 2020, a few months before George Floyd was killed by police, spiking the racial tensions in the US to new heights. This story is about a white supremacist hate group, so you can probably imagine how difficult it was for Ms. Knight to finish this book.

Background from Pike (The Pawn Duet, book 1):

The Hero is named Pike, he is best friends with Nine who is the brother to Preppy (Samual Clearwater), so he has spent time with King, Preppy, Bear and the gang. Pike was targeted during a drug deal that he had going with King and the drugs were stolen. The group that targeted him tried to make it look like Pike was behind it so that King would no longer trust him. When that didn’t work, they broke into Pike’s Pawn shop.

Pike was able to catch one of the people that broke in and it turned out her name was Mickey and he had met her years before on the day that her family was murdered. That day, she was caught by the guy she was running from and has been with the group ever since. She was able to hide the fact that she blamed the leader of the white supremacist group, Darius for the murder of her family and she has been wanting revenge ever since.

During her time with Pike, she grew to have feelings for him and she knew that he also was trying to get revenge on the group for the thefts of the drugs and his money. However, Mickey decides to protect Pike by going back to the Neo-Nazi group and going after revenge on her own.

The back story behind why Mickey was in with the group is odd and a bit complicated, since it has to do with her father and she doesn’t really know his motives. However, her father told the family that they traveled to Florida every summer to rent a house on the beach and spend time with this group of skinheads and neo-Natzi’s in order to study them and find out the origins of hate and loyalty. Mickey herself was a child prodigy and graduated college with a doctorate at a young age and was helping her father with the study.

Information from this book (Pawn):

Mickey finds out that her father may not have just been studying the group, but was in fact the co-founder of the group with Darius. She originally thought that Darius killed her father (and entire family) because he found out that her father was studying them and was planning to publish his insights. Though the new information belies that theory. If her father was a founder, so she doesn’t know why her family was murdered.

Darius has plans for Mickey, which include marriage to his son Percy, who just got out of prison. Percy has learned to hate at the hands of his father for his entire life and is entrenched in the group an slated to be the next leader. There is a lot of danger in Mic continuing to be with the group especially after she finds her sister in a cage looking near death. She thought her sister had died with their family.

The overall theme of the book is great, though in my opinion a bit simplistic (Hate/Love). But I did really enjoy the story quite a bit. The story took precedence over the romance which is opposite of the first book. Though the romance was still there between Pike and Mickey and it is quite steamy when they are together. Of course the book also has some hilarious scenes with our favorite characters (Preppy 😎, Nine 9️⃣ and King 👑).

Preppy clears his throat. “Nine’s right. You guys shouldn’t have let her go. That was never one of the options. Marry or kill. That was it. Did you even read The Kidnappers Commandments? I spent a lot of time on that, you know, and not just writing it. I had to break into The Copy Store to print that thing, and that wasn’t exactly easy when the Trekkie who runs the printing press holds his Dungeons and Dragons meetings there at night. I was a fucking elf on a quest for six fucking weeks until I was able to sneak away and get it printed.” He sighs and looks to the ceiling with regret in his eyes. “I never even got a chance to find the diary of Princess Elfington and release its powers back into the world, restoring the basic rights and magical powers to all of the little elven boys and girls throughout The Kingdom of CopyStoreland.”

Preppy is my favorite character ever! I could read book after book about him! On another note, I liked the fact that Mickey is studying the hate group and trying to come up with conclusions about what drives them. I mean we all know that hate is a product of ignorance, and that in these types of groups, the children are raised in this culture of hate and not given true facts about the reasoning for hating or about of people they hate.

However, saying hate is due to ignorance is not the full truth and this book touches on that also. There are people in hate groups that are intelligent and that have all the knowledge about the groups they hate. They know people are people and one race or group of people is not inherently better than any other. So this book does show how hate is a choice and not only a product of ignorance. Hate groups target the disenfranchised and give them a home, a place to belong and people to call their own. They know what they are doing and how to get others into the fold.

I don’t want to say more about what actually happens in the story with our characters, but I liked that this book was timely and it did hold my interest. I don’t think it was perfect, but it was a good ending to the story of Pike and Mickey!

I am a huge fan of T.M. Frazier..but I have got to be honest with my feelings regarding this book. I was very surprised with all of the editing issues in this story. There were so many, and it wasn't just spelling errors. An example was when Pike put a gun in his pocket, and in the next sentence it was propped against the door. Another was they were about to "get it on" near the water, then it's mentioned they were on the counter...then all of a sudden they were back on the sand. It became very distracting, and these examples are just a few.. In good conscience, I can't just ignore those kind of mistakes as I do expect more from this author.

I will say on a positive note that there were definitely some huge reveals, and twists that had me dumbfounded. A lot of times when I read a book, I can guess what is coming; but in this one I was definitely thrown for a loop. Sadly though, I did have a hard time connecting with Pike and Mickey's relationship. A big part of that was that I found they didn't get a lot of page time together. The few times they did, they were just having sex. I just didn't get to experience any deep emotion from them.

I am going to chalk this final book in the duet a loss for me. I am very sad about this; but I have to be honest. I do thank my buddy Steph for reading this with me..and it was nice to have someone who was seeing the same mistakes as I was. I felt validated in my feelings and I thank you very much for that Steph!!! Time for me to move on!

Pawn is the second book in the Pawn Duet. Once again, T.M. Frazier has crafted a raw dark romantic duo that cannot get enough of each other. Both Pike and Mickey come from different worlds and yet the universe has brought them together. This second book picks up directly after the first and now that Mickey is back in the grasp of her enemies, Pike will have to fight to keep his girl and claim her forever!

"People are complicated."
Told in multiple POV, Pawn has many elements that I enjoy in an adrenaline-charged dark romance. T.M. has a magical writing style that never fails to draw me in and hold me hostage the entire read. There were certainly some passion-driven scenes that left my head spinning and my heart beating madly out of my chest. Additionally, there are quite a few twists and turns in the plot that enhanced the story. Although certain choices by the main characters were hard for me to understand, I remained loyal to them the entire read! The King Driven World continues to evolve and my love for the Logan Beach Crew will never end! Due to the unique plot and the current times that our world is facing, I found T.M. successfully navigated through some very intense subject matter while keeping true to the plot and her characters.
"I love the way you fucking taste."
Overall, Pawn will appeal to Logan Beach Fans who will never get enough of Preppy, King, and the entire crew. Pike and Mickey are another stunning addition to the ensemble. Although they aren't my favorite pair, I thoroughly enjoyed their story. Kudos to T.M. for writing such a poignant and passionate read during these life-changing times! Ms. Frazier has and always will be one of my go-to authors as I am never disappointed by her creative work! Dark romance fans should one-click this duet now!

The only person who can hurt me right now, is you. It’s your fucking move, Mic. Make sure you make the right one.”

How does this woman do it? She creates the most damaged and screwed up characters and makes me love them? OK rhetorical question, but still. I was itching to get my hands on the conclusion of Pike and Mickey's story but dang, I was no expecting all this!

I already fell head over ovaries for Pike in the first book. Mickey, while being a genius, definitely had some screws loose, but in the most endearing of ways. This woman is damaged in every sense of the word. She's survived what most people would get broken by, and while her coping mechanism isn't the healthiest, it's what makes her tick. That comes out in spades in this story as we jump further into the rabbit hole that is her brain.

Pike is just as delicious in this installment as he was in the first, except now he's come to make peace with his growing feelings for Mic and his protectiveness comes out in full force. And this girl was SO HERE FOR IT.

There's quite a few revelations and jaw dropping plot twists that I didn't see coming in a million years. I literally had to pick my jaw off the floor after the first, and the second made me stare at the wall utterly dumbfounded with a holy shit moment. I love a story that can take me by surprise, and this one totally did. It was one revelation after another and this kept me glued to the pages from beginning to finish.

It was fast paced, suspenseful, sexy, and utterly messed up in parts. But I gobbled it up with a spoon. Not to mention the cameos from all of my favorites here, and I can happily say that this totally hit the mark for me.

Wow... Just wow!

I'm speechless!
This book was even better than Pike, and I thought that Pike was amazing!

I hate to spill the beans with my reviews, and I'm not gonna do that over here, so this one will be really short!

YOU HAVE TO READ THIS DUET!
PERIOD.

There's so much information and so many twists in this story, that I couldn't put it down!

I was buddy reading this duet with Lorraine and she's in UK while I'm in Brazil.
I'm 4 hours behind her, but since I'm a night owl, I was freaking out at 1am, sending her a bunch of crazy messages because I just have to talk about this book, and I wanted her to read my messages at 5am, since she's that kinda of weird person who wakes up with the sun. 😂😂😂
Sorry about that Lor... Love you ❤️

Pike and Mickey are meant to be, but they're also completely opposites in everything.
Pike is trying hard to protect Mickey and his reputation, while Mickey is trying to protect Pike and get her own revenge against the man who killed her family.

I'm used to TM Frazier's books, but I NEVER saw those twists coming and OMG I just love every single one of them.
How she puts the redemption of a certain character there.
How she showed that even if your upbringing was messy, you can still love and be loved.
How grief can be a hard rock at someone's mental health.

I highly recommend this duet and I also recommend that you read King series first.
It's not necessary, but all the cameos are better enjoyed it you know who they are.

Just put all her books in your TBR and go checking them out one by one.
Okay, bye.

Pawn is the fast paced, revengeful seeking conclusion to the pawn duet. We were given moments where I had no clue how this story was going to play out and we were taken on roller coaster ride on these characters quest for revenge.

Normally when it comes to a duet, I’m usually chomping at the bit to get my hands on the final book because my need to know how the story will end, is a strong driving force. While I did enjoy the first book, I did have some reservations about certain things and I was really hoping that this book would have made things a lot better.

I never felt the connection between the two main characters and I’m saddened to say that I still felt nothing in this one. Along with me forgetting most of what happened in the first book, I found myself not being too invested in the story and I was more interested in the side characters own lives.

With a leading bad ass alpha, a heroine who will stop at nothing to avenge her tragic past, and some shocking allies along with twists and turns, Pawn will have your head spinning faster than you can read the next chapter.

Gah!! T.M. Frazier always delivers an energetic, fast paced adrenaline pumping ride like no one's business. The Pawn was no different. There were a lot of unanswered questions that Mickey and Pike needed to face in order to get to the truth. This story was passionate and full of surprises. But while I enjoyed this story I did not feel a huge connection between Mickey and Pike after two books together.

Overall, there was still a huge amount of secrets and discord between them which I felt got in their way more, acting as a hindrance more than a help. Don't get me wrong, it's always nice to be back in Frazier's world and seeing all the familiar faces but I would be remiss if I did not add that after ten plus books in the King world, it does get a little tedious at times.  This story won't rock your world like DLOD or the King trilogy IMO, but it was still a solid read! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I really enjoyed the first book in this duet, but this one wasn't as good as book one. The pacing wasn't the best, especially as we got more towards the end. I was definitely interested in learning more about Mickey's past and the secrets she was hiding, but I really wanted more out of the ending of the story. I wasn't expecting what happened in Mickey's past and just wasn't as invested in seeing the end of the story. Certain culminating moments in the conflict didn't really feel fleshed out and it felt like they were resolved too easily and quickly. Not the best ending to the duet.

Romantic Suspense

Pawn in the second book in the Pawn Duet. T.M. Frazier writes fantastic romantic suspense novels with the best antiheroes around which is why I keep coming back for more. Now, while I absolutely LOVED Pike (the first book) I felt like this one was lacking the authors trademark grit and heart. Perhaps it was the content that I didn’t vibe with; I felt like this one swayed way further than what I had imagined after reading Pike. Or, it could be that too much time has passed in between reading Pike and the release of this one (I tend to forget some things when there is too make space in between releases). In any event, I was never able to fully invest myself within this story like I normally do with the authors work.

If you enjoy stories with a lot of suspense and books that have an intense revenge theme, this would be a good book for you. Just make sure you read the books in order otherwise you won’t have a clue what’s going on. Even more, I suggest reading them as close together as you can, so you don’t forget important pieces of the story!

It actually pains me to rate this book so low. Seriously 😭
I love TM Frazier and this is one of my favourite book worlds to return to. But there was something really wrong with this book.

I’m wondering how so many other readers haven’t seen the many many mistakes in this book? Or maybe they have and are choosing to ignore them? I don’t know 🤷‍♀️
There were tons of wrong names being said, things completely out of place. They were having sex on the beach and suddenly she was being lifted onto a counter? Then they were having sex against a sink in a bathroom and then she was laying on a mattress and then back to the sink again! It was so jarring that I had to keep going back and rereading the scene to make sure I wasn’t going crazy, which took away all the enjoyment of it. I don’t understand how all these mistakes were missed by her and whoever edited this book.

I really love Pike and Mickey together, they are perfect for each other. But we didn’t get much time with them together at all and the few times they were all they did was have sex so I just didn’t feel their connection anymore 😫

There were some major reveals and twists but sadly, for me, they just felt like they were thrown in there for dramatic effect and weren’t even explored. The destruction of The Reich was over in two pages, Thorne’s huge secret was outed on a whim and then not discussed, the whole Mindy reveal (which completely threw me for a loop) was crazy and then glossed over and then, just when things are good and they should be together, she leaves for a whole freaking YEAR! So they’re still not together. In total, their whole relationship compiles of a few weeks together 🤷‍♀️

The storyline itself was great and I think with more page time and depth, it could have been amazing.

I loved seeing Preppy, Nine and King again 😍 and Percy stole the show at times. He was great!

I feel so awful about not loving this book. But I always try to be honest.
This one really didn’t work for me and I desperately hope that TM Frazier’s next story takes us back to her typically incredible writing style and creativity.

Thanks to Jen for buddy reading with me. It was good to know I wasn’t the only one seeing the issues. This series wouldn’t be the same without you ❤️

So... It was not what I expected..a far cry from the first book of the duology which hands down earned a 5 star from me.

T. M. Frazier has always been my happy place. So, it is quite difficult for me to come on terms with this.

Pawn starts right where Pike ended. It seems such a long time since I read Pike that I had to skim through it midway in the book to get my facts straight.

The story took an unexpected turn midway. I'm not going to elaborate it or anything but at times I felt I was reading Ayn Rand instead of Frazier. I liked the ideology Frazier detailed in this book. In the wake of the events going on around the world right now, I send my utmost respect for her to mention the issue in her book.

That being said, the story didn't appeal to me that much. The kind of climax I expected from this duet was very lukewarm.

“It seems like such a small period of time, but three weeks is all it took for me to fall in love with Pike. Three weeks for my heart to shatter. Three weeks to glimpse the kind of life I’ll never have.”

I’m a huge T.M. Frazier fan, I would have to be in order to read part one of a duet knowing the conclusion wasn’t available yet. I broke all my rules to read Pike when it released and since then I’ve been impatiently waiting for Pawn to hit my Kindle. When it finally did.....I was absolutely pumped to see how this story would end and just how wild and crazy the journey to get there would be. Pike & Mickey blew my mind in the first installment and reminded me why Logan’s Beach is & always will be one of my most favorite book universes. By the end of Pawn my mind was blown for a very different reason....how could Pike be SO GOOD and this one be such a HOT MESS? I am at a loss....
description
.....it is the first Frazier book I have EVER rated less than 4 stars and honestly I’m still over here wondering what in the world happened. The issues?
description
You will have to wait until a little further down bc there is a list of them.....

Book Facts:
Told in: Dual POV, all present day aside from a few future time jumps at the end.
About: This is the second installment of the Pawn Duet, a two part spin-off from the King series that centers around a group of friends residing in Logan’s Beach. It is an angsty & suspenseful enemies to lovers romance that features Pike (Nine’s best friend) and Mickey as they navigate a path of revenge, betrayal, redemption, and healing. It is the conclusion of this duet and must be read after Pike (book one).
Triggers: White supremacy (a group), drug use, one incident of child abuse, and mental health issues.
Ends in: HFN ending with an epilogue set a year later.

The Main Players:
Pike: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Pike is Nine’s best friend and one of the few trusted members of King’s “chosen” family. He is one of the lawless, owning a legitimate pawn shop in Logan’s Beach but also is involved in drug distributing/dealing. He is planning to go to war with the Fourth Reich, but his feelings for Mickey complicate things (especially after she leaves him to go after them on her own). He is a violent, fearless, damaged, yet incredibly sexy alpha antihero with a dirty mouth and a degree in the art of angry sex. Under it all though he is protective and caring to those in his circle. Like all Frazier antiheroes, I was OBSESSED with Pike.

Mickey: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mickey is the only member of her family alive, all having died at the hands of the very hate group she’s been involved in and has planned to take down for years. She is a genius, having earned a doctorate at a very young age which helps her analyze those around her but it also creates a certain quirkiness that is both annoying and endearing. The grief over losing her family has created delusions and some could even call her insane. Her need for revenge has been her driving force until Pike, and now she may have to sacrifice one for the other. She is strong willed and stubborn, determined and defiant. It’s strange, because I actually loved her in Pike and didn’t hate her in this one....BUT something was different that resulted in me not feeling that same love for her (I will explain below).

What I liked:
Pike & Sex: Despite everything wrong with this book, one thing she did (and always succeeds in) is writing one delicious antihero. With that comes the most angry, violent, hottest sex I’ve ever read. It’s not just rough or dominating, it’s literally violent and rage filled....
Pike digs his fingers into my thighs, keeping them spread apart. “Don’t you fucking dare to try and keep me from what’s mine.”
description
...and it’s incredibly hot. One of my fave things about her books.

Percy’s Character Arc: This was a big surprise for me and quite possibly the single best thing about this book overall. I won’t ruin it for anyone, but it is solely responsible for one of the stars given to this book.

King’s Shop Scene: I loved seeing King in his element of loyalty and family, like he was in his shop with Pike. It reminded me of one of the many reasons he is and always will be in the top % of fave antiheroes ever.

Humor of it: As with all her books, she’s uses a special/unique kind of humor and she uses it well. It’s not the kind everyone is going to understand and sometimes it downright gross and totally questionable (especially where Preppy is concerned), BUT it’s still exactly what’s needed to add a little light to the types of stories she writes without it feeling unnatural or forced. There is one specific scene involving a cat......
“Are we interrupting an interpretive dance recital?” Nine asks from the open doorway.
description
....that had me in tears laughing (just the image of it).

What I didn’t:
Rushed & Incomplete: Pike offered us very little in terms of real answers but I was confident this one would wrap everything up......
description
......How wrong I was. Things are left without a conclusion, characters are introduced or cameo for no real reason that didn’t actually add any substance to the story, and the typical action-packed Logan’s Beach “showdown” in these books that I look forward to was anticlimactic (it was too easy and didn’t really make a ton of sense). I felt like she needed to expand past the page count she had but I realize now if she cut out 50% of her attempt at awareness of hate, she could have wrote a conclusion that matched the greatness of the first installment.

The Social Stance (ineffective way): I am a big supporter of using your platform to bring light to real issues.....when it’s done in a way that enhances the story and impacts the reader forcing them to open their eyes and pay attention. But when it’s overdone like it was here without any clear direction it is just plain ineffective.
description
I totally believe had she continued without letting what’s happening now influence her writing, it had the potential to really “speak” to people. Instead it felt less like a romance and more like the constant ramblings of a fictional character trying to teach the reader what hate is and why it is present in someone.....like a fictional case/subject analysis/study. It seemed that Mickey’s entire character purpose was suddenly centered around this instead of allowing the reader to naturally see it through her “eyes” as the actual story progressed.

Editing Issues: I am surprised with the amount of editors (she has two different ones) and I assume beta readers she has, how no one was able to pick up on the glaring issues within this 220-ish page book......
description
We had character mix up (Percy vs Pike and the prison “class”), a mattress and a sink interchanging within the same scene, a party happening “downstairs” when they were in a trailer/mobile classroom, the Reich being established 30 years ago vs being established in the 1920s after separating from the KKK.....then we have the missing quotations
and the whole solute vs salute error.....
“...... I can give you a solute or a thumbs up as a replacement.”
......It was careless and a mess.

The Handling of Mickey’s Mental Illness: While I appreciate Frazier not ending this book prior to addressing the fact that Mickey was definitely suffering from some form of mental illness, it felt like it was only done as the easiest way to close the whole Mindy issue. We never find out what she was suffering with and aren’t a part of any portion of her healing. Then to have her see and speak to her family again through yet another delusion at the end kinda undid all the work done to have her appear mentally stable.

The Verdict:

It PAINS me to say this because I’ve obsessed over every single book I’ve gotten my hands on by Frazier, but this book was the WORST she’s ever written (that I’ve read). It’s mind blowing that Pike was an insanely wild 5 star read and yet this one was the absolute opposite. I can’t even fully convince myself she wrote it, that’s how “off” it was. So no, I CANNOT recommend this....in fact, I hope for those with this duet as their intro to Frazier’s writing don’t allow this to turn them away from everything else she’s written. Trust me, this is not an accurate representation of the author I have on my top authors list. The only good thing that can come from this experience? A Percy stand-alone or duet....now that is what I call the road to redemption.

No me gustó.

3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up because the first book was a solid 5 stars!

This book was a roller coaster for me. There were parts I loved and parts not so much.

First of all, Preppy is once again my favorite character that Frazier has ever written.

“I’m not an addict, I’m a party opportunist. There’s a difference”

Preppy cheers, slapping me on the shoulder. “A little homicide will make you feel as right as fucking rain. I’m practically a doctor. I would know.”

A little truth, I still haven’t read Preppy's book (mainly because I haven't found the audio). He is in so many of the other books and his fucking hilarious! I actually forgot how much I loved him and have been putting it off, but definitely going back to it soon!

Pike is amazing in this story. I love how he works out his feelings and is all in. Mickey, was great.... except for the fact that one of my biggest pet peeves is in this book....

Going it alone!! Why....why....why the fuck do these heroines think they can go it alone... Yes, I know its 2021 and we are all equal.... but.... If I'm about to go up against a ton of bad guys you better bet I'm gonna have a 6'4" tattooed up, muscled hottie behind me when I fuckin do it.

Seriously, I'm a badass.. I take a boxing class at the gym and read a ton of romance novels about people fighting and getting kidnapped. So you could say, I'm as badass as they come and basically have a degree in what not to do.... But I'm still going to take my fucking man with me to make sure I DON'T FUCKING DIE!!!!

Sorry, I get a little heated about my pet peeve. You will be happy to know, she does get smart and finally gets help, but still.. It drives me crazy.

My only other real complaint with this story is I wanted more time with them together, building their relationship. The first book was an amazing start to their relationship, but then this storyline kept them apart too much. I love that we get both the H and h's POVs in these books.

And fuck this book will have your brain going and hit you with the shocked stick there towards the end....like hit you hard... I have spent the last couple of days going back over this entire book in my head to see if I should have seen it coming.

In the end this was a 3.5 for me, but I’m rounding it up because the first book was so amazing, and the parts that are good out weighed the parts that I didn’t love.

“You’re mine … You’re mine as much as I’m yours. A part of me … And I’d fucking die for you.”

“Mickey is in my arms and her lips are on mine. The entire fucking world could burn down, and I would die content for the first time in my life.”

I will make a quick note, that I was surprised by some of the editing errors. Not just in spelling. Some definite storyline issues that should have been caught in editing, but hey it was written and edited at the beginning of a fucking worldwide pandemic, so I’ll give a pass on it.

I can’t not imagine being in the middle of writing a book about white supremacy when last year happened. But Frazier did an amazing job with this story.

Please remember that Frazier is one of those authors that a 3.5 star read for her is still better than a 5 star read from some other authors. This entire King series is incredible, if you love dark and gritty - definitely hop on this series!

“It’s me and you. Always. Don’t ever forget it. Don’t ever doubt it.”

***AVAILABLE NOW - FULL REVIEW***

4 CROWNS

I really did enjoy the second book in the duet much more than book one. The physical connection between Pike and Mickey was fire, Preppy moments are always comedic and hilarious, and it had really good themes and topics.

Pike is a really great guy, and I think that is why I always love a Frazier hero. They are rough and tumble and criminal, for the most part, but they have hearts and love fiercely. Pike has so many great and caring qualities.

Mickey is a good heroine. She is resolute in her beliefs, but always has the ability to learn and change and evolve. She is good representation of how even when you are so smart, you still can learn.

There is a side character introduced who I really ended up loving and I would enjoy getting his HEA. (No spoilers so the name is withheld)

Here is where it fell apart a bit for me. Parts of plot, important parts, were rushed. I would have loved to see these big moments fleshed out, see the plan fall into place, the group of people working together. Three characters in particular are parts of the plan but we don’t see them actually plan or be a part of the anything. It all just felt rushed. I wanted more details, more story.

Overall, this is a good duet. I’m a huge fan of the world, I loved Mickey and Pike, and the story had really good messages about racism and evolution of thought.

ARC REVIEW

***as a side note, there were major consistency issues. Please note this is an ARC, so they may have been fixed in the final published copy and IT DID NOT AFFECT MY REVIEW OF THE BOOK. My review focuses on the content and story of the book.

Confused and disappointed

I will start by saying I love this Author's books. I own the whole series. However this is the first time I can say I'm not happy with one of her books. I was going to give it 2 and decided 3 stars.

Ok so, This book was actually confusing as he'll and hard to follow in parts and that's if it could keep my attention. Parts were boring and other parts were confusing especially with the sister part should I say dog and cage. Weird.

I understand a mind break but half of the time we seem to think she knows what the bells going on. Guess I'm really disappointed as I LOVED the first book in this Duet. I just didn't enjoy this one sorry.

Pike & Michalea “Mickey” are back in part two of this explosive duet. With her memories back what will Mickey do and can she trust them? Will she be the same when she finds out the whole truth? Can Pike protect her or is it too little too late for them? Will the Fourth Reich be able to be overturned? (You will know who that is once you read book 1) I loved Pike and his pull towards Mickey. I can’t say enough on how much I love when Preppy and the gang “stop by” in these books too. Just makes my whole day :) Action, suspense and lies follow this story of “cults” and finding a way to break free. This one leaves you to think and p.s. the msg at the end... “beautiful” ; Told in dual POV

5-star story, 1-star editing

I have read every single book Frazier has published because her stories are always AMAZING. However, her editing is consistently atrocious... I was so excited to see not one, but the names of two editors listed at the beginning of this book, however Frazier either ignored all of their suggested edits or uploaded this book before incorporating any of them. This book was just as inundated with inconsistencies, typos, grammar, punctuation mistakes, etc. as all of her other books. The characters are called the wrong names and mention being on a counter while having sex on the beach and on a mattress while having sex in a bathroom. Normally, I would not read books that were this poorly edited, but her stories are that good!

I was happy to discover that PAWN picks up exactly where book #1 ends, so we don’t miss anything. Pretty much all of the characters from the KING series make appearances, too, which I especially loved. This was my first story about living with a hate group, and wow was it entertaining! I was impressed by the amount of research or knowledge Frazier has each time she shared interesting details about things like desensitization, deprogramming victims of brainwashing, photographic memories etc.. Because of the inconsistencies, I was left with a few questions in the end, but overall, Frazier wowed me once again with her innovative storytelling skills!!!

Logan’s Beach is my favorite fictional world, so it feels like coming home when I read new books set in this world. I really enjoyed this conclusion to The Pawn Duet. I love the characters, love the “family” vibe, looooove the cameos! At one point, I jumped out of my chair and squealed, I was so excited to see my boys!

Pawn is exciting, sexy, and suspenseful, and will keep you guessing and questioning certain characters’ motivations. I also appreciate the relevancy of the plot of this book. I can’t imagine what a challenge it was to write this story, given the current state of our world, but it was done very well. It inspires hope, change, and thinking/stepping outside the box.

I hope Tracey never stops writing more books in this world. I want alllll the books for allllll the characters. Give me every side character and friend you can find, I will read them all!

If you are a fan of dark romance and romantic suspense, you will love this duet and the entire King Series. The Pawn Duet is a spin-off of that series, and can be read separately. Once you’ve had a taste of this world, you will want to read the entire series. The King Series has several duets, standalones, and a trilogy, all set in one totally epic fictional world. To truly start at the beginning, you would start with The Dark Light of Day, and trust me- you will NEVER look back!

Pawn was the second part of the Pawn Duet in the King series spinoff by TM Frazier. It was the conclusion of Pike and Mickey’s story and needed to be read in order.

It had been months and hundreds of books in between since I read the first book, Pike, so frankly, I didn’t remember it. And when I refreshed my memory briefly, I remembered that I was mostly lost in the first book anyway so I didn’t feel as bad when it took a bit to catch back up.

This was a tough story for me. Hard to read, full of hate and racism. There was a twist along the way that I was glad to see and hopeful for more. No spoilers, so no elaboration but I really enjoyed some characters that I assumed I wouldn’t. It also had a suspenseful vibe and I began to really love Pike. But then at the end, it got weird. I wasn’t really even sure what happened but I powered through and the conclusion wrapped it up.

With all that said, don’t mistake my confusion for not liking it. Because I totally did. And as expected from Frazier, it was well written, well developed and I read it straight through, unable to put it down. I enjoyed the intrigue, mystery and yes, even the confusion. Additionally, there were a few characters that needed their own stories, so I’m hopeful for even more.

I’m not sure where Frazier will take us next, but I’m totally all in!

Wow! The release of this book is perfectly timed with our current world events. There are sooo many moving parts that TM Frazier has expertly woven together to give us a book that’s impossible to put down.

Mickey is working on a plan to bring down a hateful and murderous group of people. All Pike wants to do is keep her safe. But, can he trust her? So many pieces are moving in this story. There are some shocking revelations that honestly I did not see coming. There is so much love and a huge bit of redemption that makes Pike and Mickey’s love story hit you right in all the feels.

We still get all the action that we have grown to love from TM but you can feel all the blood, sweat and tears she poured into this book. I loved it. If you read this book and not reflect on your heart and ideals then I would be shocked. Outstanding story telling.

I’m... just not sure what to say about this one. Although I loved Pike, and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of Pawn, this book is just a mess.

The first half, although slow going, is solid. I loved seeing the relationship between Pike and Mickey, even when they weren’t physically together. However, the back half completely fell apart. It’s too confusing to follow in some spots and I still have questions that were left unanswered. Everything also just seems... thrown together? Especially the last couple chapters? Very rushed, honestly.

I love TM Frazier and she is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. She’s extremely talented and I’m still a huge fan. But this one was a total miss for me.

Isn't funny how things turn out I'm sure Tracey never imagined just how timely this book would be. I applaud her for sticking with the storyline it could not have been easy to write.

Pike and Mickey are back in this high octane conclusion to their duet. I had all these questions at the end of book one and thankfully they were all answered but not before some serious heart pounding moments. The story kept me enthralled, some secrets I guessed but some I never saw coming. There is no underestimating the danger Mickey puts herself in to get her revenge and closure on a horrendous chapter of her life. I loved all the cameos from some of my favourite characters ever they always pop up at just the right time. Pike is a walking saviour willing to put everything on the line to ensure her safety, just remember not all heroes are in plain sight some hide in the shadows waiting on their moment. The only thing I felt was missing was there was not enough scenes with Pike and Mickey together.

I can imagine how difficult it was for Ms. Frazier to address topics that are so relevant to our current times while being respectful to the message. I feel she did a great job of incorporating the conflict into this novel while still remaining true to the romance genre.

The plot was interesting and when I thought I knew where it was going, I was proven wrong. It was complex and emotional. It combined elements in a way that was creative. It felt a little bit outside the box for T.M.F. but not in a bad way.

I felt the characters were developed a little faster than usual in respects to their relationship mostly because there was just a lot going on. The pace in general was a little fast even when spanned through 2 books. However, it did it detract at all from my enjoyment. Another great addition to the King series.

The conclusion to the Pawn duet we've all been waiting for didn't disappoint. Pawn picks up exactly where Pike left off, with both Mickey and Pike struggling to find their footing in their new reality and come to terms with the choices they made, what their next steps are going to be in order overcome their circumstances and shed the shackles that tie them to their past, obscuring a brighter future. Questions, lies and revenge are at the heart of this story, the driving force behind both main characters' actions.

I'm gonna be honest and admit that my love for Pike and Mickey stems mostly from the first book in this duet and that's because their relationship wasn't explored to its full extent in Pawn. It felt like their relationship took a back seat to the main storyline of this book, which was a very relevant subject matter with everything that's going on around the world right now. And I understand that as an author, if you have the platform and feel strongly about something you have to take the chance. But I would have loved if Mickey's struggles, that were shown closer to end of this book, were given an equally deep exploration because that part felt a bit rushed and glossed over.

Apart from that, Pawn was everything you'd expect from a T.M. Frazier book and maybe a little more relevant and rooted in reality, even though it was a work of fiction. This book had it all: action, suspense, scorching hot sexiness, heart-felt emotions as well as gut-wenching truths that are hard to swallow. Pawn was full of heart and conviction. It made you think long and hard on topics plaguing today's society and made you reevaluate your stance on those topics. It made you acknowledge that some times you need to just listen and pay attention and most importantly, it makes you want to educate yourself in order to be better, do better, expect better.

I always love coming back to Logan's Beach and I honestly can't wait to come back and visit the characters that after so many years just feel like a family.

3.5 stars

Revenge is the main theme in book two of this intense duet.
Revenge for what the Fourth Reich did to Mickey's family.
Revenge for the attacks on Pike's business and closest friends.
Revenge for trying to tear Pike and Mickey apart.

Both Mickey and Pike have their plans on how they want to seek their revenge, and they aren't always on the same page. The lack of communication and misunderstandings between them nearly tear them apart. And I'll admit, I was a little frustrated by their lack of trust in one another, but I guess, after being screwed over so many times, they had some reason to doubt.

I try and catch my breath, but there are no breaks. There's just me and Pike and this dangerous thing between us that has us pulling and pushing against each other as if possessed by demons.
Or maybe, we are the demons.

The big surprise in this book is the person who ends up being the savior. I don't think they saw it coming. I certainly didn't. And I'm not sure Mickey and Pike's plans of revenge would have worked without this person on board. They were the key.

While this story was fast paced and intense, I wasn't as invested in the story as I thought I'd be. Given everything this couple has been through, separately and together, I wanted a deeper level of emotion. That said, I liked what Mickey did to fix herself. It was a much-needed part of the story.

Overall, this book wrapped up the key story-lines from book one and had a good dose of surprises along the way to keep me engaged.

„You are my constant.”

After the mindblowing cliffhanger that the author left us with at the end of the first part of the Pawn Duet, I was looking forward to this sequel. And Frazier did not disappoint! The continuation of Pike and Mickey's story is one big rollercoaster. This book is not just an unusual love story. Frazier also touches controversial and very current topics and she handles them perfectly. Pawn is gritty, raw and real. And it's amazing!

This part is full of unexpected twists and turns. It’s action-packed and jaw-dropping. And although I had doubts along with the characters, their palpable connection worked for me like an anchor that was a foothold in the middle of complete chaos. Every Pike's thought gave me goosebumps. Each action taken by Mickey accelerated my heartbeat. But the feeling that connects these two was the reason why I didn’t have a heart attack from an excess of emotions. I love Pike for his undying loyalty and selflessness. I adore Mickey’s determination and devotion. They were tangled in the web of lies, deceit and destruction, but their love bloomed like the most stubborn plant in the middle of desert. Together they are a force to be reckoned with. They’re full of passion, tenacity and resistance. Their love story isn’t pretty, but Frazier told it beautifully.

Pawn is the the perfect conclusion to this duet. I’m happy that this couple got their HEA and I love the message it contains. T.M. Frazier showed the courage to write about heavy and uncomfortable subject and she has my utter respect for that, because I believe that it wasn’t easy. It’s a mix of love and hate, truth and lies, revenge and forgiveness- a perfect story set in my beloved Logan’s Beach!

"Crazy and psycho. A love story."

Not sure what it was, but there was something missing for me on this one. I didn't feel the intensity I did with the endings of the previous couples, but they were still scorching hot. And of course, any time spent in Logan Beach is well worth the trip! Pike and Mickey are racing against time to figure out if they are meant to be, or it's all one big lie, and round and round we go, until we didn't. I enjoyed the banter, the excitement, and always, always the wise quips of my favorite bow tied book boyfriend, even if it was only a little peek. These characters and this town has held my heart since I first met Doe and King, and I'm not sure I'll ever tire of returning!! Pike and Mickey were a wild ride, and they were hot enough to scorch my fingers white knuckling my kindle, so it's a can't miss ending!!
