A dangerous secret. A vicious plot. Visions of the past. While Jack Garrison is forever a changed man free of his bitterness, his future looks uncertain. After protecting him from a terrorist attack, the girl he loves, Bette Deekmann, struggles to stay alive all while harboring a dangerous secret. As her past comes to light, Jack finds himself wondering—who is she, really? While he digs deeper into her mysterious identity, his visions of the past continue to draw him into Israel's history. But, soon, Jack begins to see that both Bette and Israel are a part of God's bigger plan as well as the focus of an age-old battle—a violent and dangerous war. Prophecy, history, and captivating story-telling intertwine as Ray Bentley and Bodie Thoene reveal the second installment of The Elijah Chronicles: The Threshing Floor.
I really want to like this series, and I catch glimpses of the Thoene greatness which I love. But mostly the writing is bad, disjointed and choppy. The characters are flat...and what should be a sweeping historical and futuristic saga is didactic and preachy. Wish the Thoenes would have written this together...love their Jerusalem chronicles.
I want MORE, so much more! Every page I turn, every word I underline as being meaningful makes me hunger for the outcome. This is such a good series. It just takes so long to get that next book. I reread the first installment, "On the Mountain of the Lord" to refresh. I had forgotten so much due to the lag time between the publication of book 1 and book 2. Now I'm excited to get my hands on the next book. Authors, please hurry. Amazing story!
Although I am a huge fan of the first book and thoroughly enjoyed this book up until the last chapter, I gave this book a 4 not 5 because the ending just didn't seem to come together for me. It almost seemed like it just dropped off unexpectedly. I learned something new about Bible prophecy which was very intriguing and I enjoyed the further development of the characters, but I'm disappointed that the authors didn't take a short book 2 and 3 and put them together as one. Especially since the end of this book does not really explain what the outcomes of the final attack are. Sort of a cheap way to get 2 books out of one. Sorry, but that's my opinion. I am still a fan of Ray Bentley and the Thoene's, in fact I've read almost all of the Thoene's books, which is why I was a little disappointed with the ending.
I like the book. It's an easy read with plenty of action. The characters are borderline stereotypes: the sorrowful man who to d's faith, the strong woman who doesn't need faith, the wise grandmother, and others. The good guys and the bad guys may not wear black or white hats, but they're still obvious. The prophecies are interesting in light of current events, but I wish there was a disclaimer that differentiated the accurate research of past event with speculation about how ancient prophecies may being fulfilled in 2020. Other books that have tried to read current events through the lens of prophesy have fallen short and have rightfully been dismissed. Will it happen again here?
I've been reading Bodie Thoene books since 1986. Bodie is a master story teller. This book spoke to my heart and confirmed many things to me. I love how it goes into the history of Israel. I've come to know the characters and each personality fits perfectly together. It's exciting to see through Jack's eyes when he has a vision and is actually in the vision. This book opened my eyes to the way of life in Israel. I'll never get to travel there, but through this book I get to experience it and see it through the authors words. I believe there is a real anointing on this series. I look forward to reading the next one. My eyes are wide open. You must read it. You won't be disappointed.
Jack Harrison carries on, finding his way after discovering his Jewish heritage. Is peace possible between Israel & thee Palestinians? Why do so many hate Israel? Because in doing so, they are not loving God & His Chosen People. Greed, thirst for power & money...do these elements drive evil in humankind? These elements lead to death. But God is mighty & His Plan will prevail for those who love & trust Him. Excellent read! Highly recommended!
I've never read a bad Thorne novel and doubt I ever will. This one is rich with history and touching relatable characters, as usual. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
It is expressly didactic however and I fear a bit imbalanced in the process. It is not a fatal flaw unless you come to it with a strong anti-Israel bias. Yet, there is much even one do bent can learn in the process if they will keep an open mind and enjoy the story. There is much any can learn if they lack exposure first hand.
This is my second of the series, about to begin the third. Though I am a Bible believing Christian, and a man who understands Israel's place in God's plan, as well as one who prays for the Jews...this is still very enlightening. It's difficult to comprehend the evil that is set against God's people, even though I understand satan's plan to thwart God's plan for humanity. I am enjoying reading this series
The characters are more real in this second novel. Bette is recovered from her fatAl wounding by a terrorist. Dr Garrison meets his grandmother. She fills him into so much of his ancient history. She has bones. She is real.
An amazing love story and story of a return of things lost. Bette, Jack, Dodi, Lev - all well developed characters. And a story about the struggles Israel faces on the world stage today. I definitely recommend this book!
I love being able to see Bible people as they lived ..This story is full of danger and Israel 's daily risk to live in the land. Jack is learning about his ancestors and the promises of God.
This is book two of three and keeps you wanting to read book three. I will recommend this book to everyone I know who enjoys truth and adventure that's also fun to read.
I feel like I'm in Israel! I'm starting the next book in the series today❤ Bentley and Thoene do not fail in making me feel like I'm in the story, tears, laughter, and aaahaw moments!!
Interesting sequel to the first book of the series. We find out more about both Jack and Bette’s backgrounds. Interspersed is lots of information on Israel and Palestine. At times things are hard to follow but I can’t wait to start book three.
More about Israel, God’s precious promises, brave people, prophecy coming to fulfillment. We live in a special time. Jesus could come at any time! Are we doing His will, are we ready?
I've learned so much through this series. I've stopped several times to look up the prophecies mentioned. I've always been a huge fan of Brock and Brodie Thoene, but I'm loving this collaboration. Onto the next book!
This second book in the series was even more exciting. The depth of prophetic analysis was astounding. Mrs. Thoene’s gift of description made every scene come alive. Now, on to the third book!
