I am utterly swept up by this Baileigh Higgins zombie apocalypse series called Rise of the Undead. Apocalypse Z: Book 3 continues the narrative about a group of survivors that have managed to overcome individual experiences while united in an attempt to not just exist separately but thrive together.
The survivors arrive at Fort Detrick just in a nick of time seeing as how the survivors living there are barely holding on. Dr. Tara Lee is considered a valuable asset, seeing as how she has developed a vaccine against the deadly Vita virus, but because she is new to the fort, the lead officer considers her an unknown. Saul and Dylan are incarcerated because every new person is isolated for the first week in order to ascertain if they are infected.
Dylan is unable to hide her disdain for the powers that be and so makes things more difficult for herself. It is only when Tara vouches for them and puts Saul and Dylan on the frontline of protection that they earn the trust of the inhabitants of the fort, but even so people have witnessed the residual effects of the virus on Dylan and there is a secretive, concerted effort to ostracize and eliminate Dylan. This is riveting and about as unputdownable a series as I have found.
Apocalypse Z: Book 3 (Rise of the Undead) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Continuing the story of Dr Tara Lee, developer of the only effective antidote to the dreaded Vita virus, that has killed millions and created almost as many undead to rise and attack. Survivors, such as siblings Amy and Alex, Saul, Ethan and (rescued from a vile fate by Tara's serum), Dylan, who's been left psychologically scarred by the terrible previous events that have befallen her, are few and far between. Hoping to reach sanctuary in a military base, where Tara previously worked in its lab, this small band of survivors fight their way through zombie hordes and other dangers, that threaten their lives - and their minds. What happens next will thrill, shock and definitely keep you on the edge of your seat, as you delve into this unputdownable novel, Apocalypse Z: Book 3, in Baileigh Higgins' excellent Rise of the Undead series. You did it again, as usual !!!!! Another fantastic book for your die-hard fans!!!!! The action and suspense was unbelievable !!! I had to force myself to stop a couple of times because I was getting too emotional (I wanted to KILL some characters SOOOOO bad!!!) that it was interfering with me and the real world!!!! THAT'S the sign of a really good author !!! LOL Can't wait for book four!!!! Thanks, again, for keeping us, your fans, so well entertained!!!!!
The end of this book leaves you with a good feeling for our fearless group. However, with King making good his escape, vanishing into thin air along with Dr. Bannock, we all know it’s only a matter of time before the wheels fall off the wagon. This is a very well written series, plenty of interesting people, lots of action, and the end of each book leaves you ready for the next one. Great storytelling Ms. Higgins.
Just when I think this author couldn't possibly make this series any better, I'm proven wrong! I'm stuck on the perfect individuality of the characters and my vested interest in their well-being is almost as strong as their own will to live to fight for a modicum of zombie free peace and quiet. The zombies and gore are perfectly disgusting and there is seemingly no escape for long. I'll be starting the next in the series basically now.
Another great book, full of drama, suspense and non stop action, that kept me captive to the end, and disapointed when it finished! I was surprised and pleased to find there were more books in the series, and I can't wait to get started on the next one, the narration was wonderful. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
These stories are written so well and so easy to read that the pages just fly by. It’s fast-paced, with great characters that continue to fight on many fronts – it’s not only zombies that are a problem.
I have the omnibus edition and I’ve loved following the stories of the numerous characters.
Great to read more of Saul, Tara, Dylan, Alex and Amy as they fight to survive the zombie apocalypse caused by the Vita virus. As usual from Baileigh Higgins, well written with strong characters and great story line.
Wow this is getting really good. I can’t believe Nick took a chance. This is going to be epic. Saul is going to be so mad and I don’t blame him. The drama is so enticing that it keeps me glued to the story.
I really do not know how Baileigh Higgins does it. She continues to write books that are exciting and filled with action and suspense. The characters are great and the plot has a big twist. You have to read this whole series if you are a true Apocalypse fan.
And action packed thrilling run through a zombie apocalypse. An incredible cast of characters that you will enjoy getting to know and follow during their track through the zombie apocalypse. A virologist Doctor Who tried to warn her superiors about the outbreak morphing into something worse and being ignored. Finally makes her way back to the United States and is able to create a cure and is working on a vaccine. As always tends to happen in an apocalypse there are humans out there that act worse than zombies. Our characters are not safe from the zombies and they are not safe from men who do evil. The story is told in a very entertaining and thorough way which will make you feel the characters and get to know them. You will be sad when you lose one and shout hell yeah when they nail one of the bad guys. One of my favorite authors and I highly recommend check out all her books
This was book 3 of a 7 book series and so far each book has been better than the last! I like how they talk about the family that they’ve made since only Amy and Alex are actually related. Sometimes the family you make is better than the family you’re born into.
This book also shows the other side of humanity. The cruel, cold, calculating, manipulative side. Everyone has a dark side but for some it’s so much easier to embrace than the good side. So far there has been a good balance between all the characters and what skill set they each have and what they are willing to learn to be better for the family. No one is a slacker and everyone helps everyone else. They also “vote” on how some things are going to happen to make sure everyone has a voice even if it doesn’t go the way some of them want.
I thought this was the last book in the series, so I was very surprised, first when it reached 80% and I couldn't imagine it ending and second when it ended and it was all, despite my previous thought, more or less resolved. It felt like it was meant to end but changed plan at the last minute to make room for another book. So, this book 3 wasn't too bad. It's still not my favourite with too many things that don't feel really apocalyptic like enough electricity, hot showers, functional hospitals and lots of supply and ammo to spend while on the other hand 4 hours of hordes walking through a city then simply disappear. There is also a slight love triangle but luckily this doesn't take centre stage and actually fits quite good into Dylan's development.
Another great installment for Apocalypse Z. Higgins again continues to take us through the world of the undead. Dylan, Tara, Saul, and Ethan are at the Fort only to find more problems and more evil while Alex and Amy barely survive only to still not feel whole. Relationships are stressed and built by the wonderful writing of Higgins. Nonstop drama and action. Can't wait for the next installment. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
This book had it all, it was a fast paced, action filled storyline. I am sad at what happens, I am a happy endings kinda girl. There was betrayal, and near death at every turn. We lost someone and some were taken. If you want to know who and what get the books and leave your reviews. I am glad this author does not feel the need just to kill off everyone. Looking forward to book 4.
That was the best so far in this series. Alex and Amy are in a safe place as are Dylan, Tara and Saul. They miss eachother though and want to get together again. When that finally happens at Fort Derrick where Dylan, Tara and Saul found refuge, they learn that there are greater enemies than the Undead...
This is a fantastic series. That pulled me in right from the beginning. The Author has brought to fruition a very intriguing story. That has lots of twists and turns and is a real page turner. If you love apocalyptic reads and zombies this is definitely the read for you, I highly recommend this read. Shauna Joesten
I really liked this one. We got to see more of Dylan and the whole gang being reunited again was sweet. Very interested to see if they can mass produce a vaccine now that they have the lab!
**Apocalypse Z: Book 3** by Baileigh Higgins takes readers deeper into the harrowing world of survival, redemption, and societal judgment. This installment brings Dylan and Saul to the gates of Fort Detrick, successfully delivering Dr. Tara to what should be a safe haven. While Dr. Tara is welcomed with open arms due to her expertise, her two companions are met with suspicion and hostility. Dylan, in particular, bears the brunt of this treatment. Her uncontrollable rage during zombie combat earns her the label of a "freak," leaving her ostracized by the very people she’s fighting to protect.
This novel delves into the mental anguish of living in a society that harshly judges those with a history of infection. It serves as a poignant allegory for the stigma faced by survivors of Covid-19—written during a time when fear and misunderstanding often overshadowed compassion. Instead of celebrating the resilience of survivors, many were shunned by their own families and communities, a reality mirrored in Dylan’s experience.
As the story unfolds, a sinister plot masterminded by Dr. Tara’s former superior comes to light, threatening to upend the fragile political landscape. The tension is palpable, and the twists are expertly woven, making this book a riveting page-turner.
Baileigh Higgins masterfully blends action, emotional depth, and social commentary, offering readers both a thrilling narrative and a thought-provoking exploration of humanity’s darker tendencies. If you’re looking for a story that’s as gripping as it is reflective, *Apocalypse Z: Book 3* is a must-read.
