After the war of 2098, the United States is a chaotic mess. Terrorism abounds, and the government isn’t doing a very good job of keeping the people safe.

Dogwood Protection Services, DPS, takes matters into their own hands. Using the best technology and agents, they track down and stop terrorists before they can do their damage.

Sixteen-year-old Harper Chandler is one of DPS’s biggest assets. She’s small, nimble, cunning, and willing to break a few laws to stop an attack. Like breaking into a classmate’s house where he catches her, almost blowing the vigilante operation wide open.

In order to keep things under wraps, Harper is forced to get close to Akiro—who just so happens to be extremely hot and very into Harper. As she and Akiro grow closer, Harper must continue to spy on his father to figure out why he keeps showing up in the DPS database, all while working a stalker case for the most powerful woman in San Diego.

As she draws nearer to answers, Harper realizes the stalker will stop at nothing to keep her from uncovering the catastrophic truth.

If Harper can’t piece everything together in time, lives—and her relationship with Akiro—will be lost.

For fans of Batman and Marie Lu.

If I could send one book to every sci-fi reader in the world, I think I would choose this one.
Not because it's complex, not because it's a masterpiece, but because this book is one probably the most fun I've had with a light sci-fi book for months.
Harper is about a girl named... Harper who works for a secret protection agency that stops terrorists. When I first asked to receive a copy of this book I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it. On one hand it sounded like an epic adventure, but on the other it sounded like it could fall into a hole of cliché tropes. Luckily for me this book had me turning pages quite quickly in a race to figure out what was going to happen next.
I loved the characters, the plot, the world, and the overall tone of this book. All of it was pulled off so well. I definitely need to check out more from Jo Cassidy. She is one of my new favourite authors.

Reread:
I reread this in anticipation for the second book, and I loved it even more!! Like... how does Jo Cassidy write such amazing stories? Her characters and plot flow so well and fit together perfectly. I am in awe and I can't wait to read the second book. It is now one of my most anticipated of 2021.

Thoughts after Rereading:

Wow this was even better the second time I read it! Absolutely loved it and wished I could have read it in one sitting! Very very very good and SO excited to be diving into book two next! Oh, and definitely bumping this up to five starts instead of four!

Original Review:

Harper is a book I definitely think young female readers would REALLY enjoy! The MC is snarky, can kick butt, and has a strong love for her family.

Though it took me a little bit to fully get into this story, I loved Harper from the beginning and absolutely enjoyed being on adventures with her. She's smart, but she's also down to Earth and not embarrassed about her background. She totally gained my respect even more then she already did when "meeting" her because of her great friendship with Ike.

I thought the romance was very well done! Akiro is just too cute! I like the subtle Japanese mentions as well as "the ball" in how Harper and his life are woven in together. Their romance seemed relatable from a teen's perspective, but also clean, which I appreciated! (I say seemed relatable because I didn't have a boyfriend at Harper's age.) Imagine if they became a fighting duo?! I'm 100% in support of that!

Hands down, this cover fits this story perfectly. It's what drew me to the book in the first place and it's epic. Plus, it makes me think of the suspense concerning the villain (and when things go down).

Overall, this book was super cool! Definitely recommend to YA readers who like Batman and snarky female heroines.

Love Harper’s straightforward, hardcore ways! That scene with the twenty cats had me rolling. And Akiro! We all need to know an Akiro. His persistence pursing Harper made me smile.

4/5 stars

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Harper is a high school girl who secretly works to stop terrorists. Her size and skill make her perfect for the job, especially since she has to do a lot of breaking and entering. Unfortunately, she gets a little side-tracked on one of her missions and is caught by one of her fellow classmates. Needing more information, Harper’s boss forces her to get close to Akiro. The good news is that he’s totally into Harper; the bad news is that Harper is trying very hard to not be into him. Soon, Harper is trying to deal with Akiro, solve a case for her boss, and figure out a stalker case for someone very powerful—yeah, it’s a lot.

This book was so entertaining! I’m a sucker for spy gadgets and nerdy t-shirts, so that was a definite plus! I also really appreciated Harper’s snarky personality and her intense love for her family. Another aspect that I really liked was the side characters! Akiro and the other side characters (and Harper’s various interactions with them) really made the book a whole lot more enjoyable for me! A lot of scenes made me laugh (a particular cat scene was rather amusing!)

This story is fun, fast-paced, and entertaining! Harper is definitely not your ordinary MC! Readers looking for a light-hearted, vigilante story with some romance should check this out!

HARPER by Jo Cassidy

If you don't like danger, suspense, humorous lines, tense moments, and a little romance, this book is not for you. It has all of that -- and more!

Harper Chandler is not your typical teenager. Few people know that she works for DPS and goes on dangerous missions. Being caught could mean losing her life. This fact becomes a personal fear when she is abducted one night. Failed attempts on her life only make her more determined to discover the truth for her employer. This heroine is far from weak! But she'll need all of her toughness, skill, and courage to bring down the bad guys. She's finally met her match.

This book has everything I love in a novel -- a strong heroine, danger around every corner, and clever dialogue that sometimes made me laugh. Harper's scenes with handsome Akiro are really sweet -- that is, when she isn't fighting her attraction to him.

I've loved all of Jo Cassidy's novels, but this one stands out as my absolute favorite. I know I'll be reading it many times. Once is definitely not enough.

10/10 amazing book! I couldn’t possibly ask for anything better.

The characters were so well done, so fun, so amazing and so real.

The writing was probably what makes this book stand out so much, the way Harper thinks is so real and so blunt, I loved it!

The plot was also so intense I could barley look away for a second, I don’t often read books or watch movies/shows like this, Mostly because they’re predictable and all so similar to each other. But I gotta say, Jo Cassidy did it right.

I found I related to Harper on a deeper level then I thought I would. I mean, I already loved her by page 1, but the reality of her protectiveness over her family and her sense of responsibility is something I can understand. I can tell Jo Cassidy really understood what that can be like and she portrayed it perfectly.

(Also we both love Doctor pepper so we’re pretty much the same lol 😜)

I feel like if this were a movie (or a tv show) everyone would go crazy and it would become insanely popular.

I highly recommend this book, it was so fun and so hardcore, you probably won’t ever find another book like this

(Very mild spoilers for the first chapter, so to summarize: good book, 5 stars, I’m excited for book 2!)

And here we go-

I really enjoyed this book! I’m not much of a shipper but I really did like the romance between Harper and Akiro (and if I’m telling you I liked a canon romance,,, it’s probably good)

I love how Harper’s first thought to seeing Akiro after breaking into his house was to just deck him and run, I can admire that. I love strong mc’s.

I love all these characters. I feel like they were all written pretty well, none of them were flat. They all contributed to the story in an interesting way. I think Pearl is probably my favorite character and I hope to see more of her soon.

I feel like this was an excellent idea for a book and Cassidy did a wonderful job executing it. I love how seriously Harper takes her job and I loved reading about her breaking into buildings and kicking people in the head.

I recommend it to anyone who like strong and smart lady characters, corrupt higher powers, and adorable love interests.

I absolutely LOVED the action, drama, and suspense of this book! The chapters are short and punchy and keep you so engaged. The characters are fabulous (I love Scarlett especially!), which is super important to me in a book. The plot was super good, too. And there were quite a few LOL moments that I appreciated. (Peaches!)

Absolutely would recommend!

This was an amazing book. I recommend to anyone who loves sci-fi. It was a real page turner. You should really pick it up and read it. This book sadly isn't as popular as it should be. It should be on the new york times bestselling list. It was awesome and you should definitely check it out.

This book was recommended by the author herself. She thought it would be a good and interesting read for me. It sure was. This book showed me to “Stay on Mission”. I can do this by following my gut and listening to the people that know what’s best for me. Jo Cassidy is here pen name for her thrillers, her real name if Sara Jo Cluff. Sara wants me to get the best in life and wants me to achieve the best in life because she is really close to me at home. She shows me that reading creates the best realities. She is a great author.

Harper by Jo Cassidy or Sara Jo Cluff it a very good book. This makes you feel like you are a real secret agent. That you are trying to save the world from evil. This book it ten out of ten for me. I would recommend this book to people who feel like they need to find their place and need to relate to something in life. It’s also just a good read. This is a book with action and romances with cliffhanger and shocking parts. This book keeps you on your toes, and it’s not a book that feels like it is going on forever, it’s very fast and fun to read. Cassidy is one of my new favorite authors. She gives me something new to look forward to when I read a new book.

🖤BOOK REVIEW🖤

The war of 2098 left chaos over America. Terrorism abounds and the government isn’t doing a very good job in keeping their people safe. So that’s why the Dogwood Protection Service exists. They track down and stop the bad guys before their attacks can happen.

Sixteen-year-old Harper Chandler is one of the best assets that DPS has. She’s not afraid to break a few laws if it means keeping people safe. Like breaking into a house that belongs to a classmate, only to have him catch her and risk blowing their vigilante operation wide open.

In order to keep things hush-hush, Harper is forced to befriend to Akiro - which is a problem because he’s very hot and very into her. It doesn’t help matters that his father is the one she’s spying on, along while working a stalker case for the highest profile woman in San Diego.

As she draws closer and closer to the stalker, the stakes become higher and higher. If Harper can’t piece it all together, lives - and her relationship with Akiro - may be lost forever.

Ahhh this book! Once I started, I couldn’t put it down! With serious Arrow meets Black Widow vibes, Harper is a snarky young woman who is willing to do anything for her family. I loved her character (even though I’m not opposed to a woman needing rescuing by a guy now and then too!) and can I just say how adorable her and Akiro are together?! Ack! Loved it!

The vigilante/spy genre isn’t one I see a lot on bookshelves and this one hit the mail on the head. Futuristic technology, a believable backstory, things not too different from now - but also different enough to notice. I liked the setting, almost as much as the characters!

And speaking of - Riggs and Scarlett. Never have I wanted more interaction with secondary characters than with Riggs and Scarlett. I love how unique all of Cassidy’s characters are, all with their own unique quirks and personalities.

There was a bit of language in this book, but I found it fit the characters well. It helped to add to the authenticity of the world, characters, and story over all. But I’d that is something you’re not comfortable with, then this story may not be for you.

3 Stars: Good book, may read again.

Reviewing Harper is a little bit tricky. I enjoyed the book, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to someone. And I'll get to that.
First off, Harper herself has a very fun and engaging character voice. It was super fun to read. I also enjoyed the plot. It was really fun and fast-paced.
I did feel like Harper and Akiro's relationship progressed really fast. I know that they were friends to an extent beforehand, but they seemed to "skip" a little bit at the beginning of their relationship and jump straightening into kissing.
Now, Harper is published by Monster Ivy, whose theme is clean and edgy fiction. This is the first book by Monster Ivy that I've read, and I was curious what clean, edgy fiction would look like. Harper definitely is more on the edgy than clean line.
"Coarser" language is sprinkled throughout the novel pretty frequently. There are also a couple instances of swearing, and several mentions of a gesture related to a strong swear word. There is also a fair bit of kissing between Harper and Akiro and mentions of making out.
So while I enjoyed the plot and the character voice of Harper, I really wasn't a fan of the edginess of the book, which makes it difficult to decide whether or not I'd recommend it to someone. If Harper had been written a little bit more to the "clean" side of Monster Ivy's theme, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

Review

Harper is a normal teenager by day and spy in the streets at night fighting bad guys. Harper lives in a lower middle class family so her job at Dogwood Protection Services (DPS) helps her mother's medical bills but just barely makes ends meet. So when her classmate Akiro is inside the house that she should spy she gets suspended for two weeks without pay so when an outside job referred by Rigg she takes it only it's too dangerous than anyone of them expected, will they find the culprit on time? Or will Harper get trapped and killed? Read to find out!

Jo Cassidy is such a talented author she writes sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, thriller, horror, mystery and romcom! This particular book is a mystery thriller with a hint of a budding romance that will leave readers wanting for more! The plot of this book is well layered and as things unravel the book will keep you on your seats edge, the writing style is fabulous, the understandability for non-native english speakers is easy, language is lucid there aren't any superfluous words to poof things up because they're awesome as they are, the characters are well built with solid back-stories , the cover adds to the intrigue and the title is simple and elegant.

Review Esp/Eng

I don't usually read this kind of books but the plot of this one is very interesting, Harper is a very funny girl and I really liked the writing, which made me want to know more about the story.

I liked the characters, they are well developed, in a way they are real but they also have their fictional characteristics.

Sometimes I felt the story a little heavy although it is very funny and the writing is so warm. Jo Cassidy's humor is just amazing.

I loved the romantic part of the story, it was very sweet. The situations are so funny, if you want to laugh with a book I recommend this one.

I stayed up past midnight finishing this book. And more or less binged it in two separate sittings. What a fun story!

This is a futuristic spy/thriller YA book with interesting twists, lots of fighting, super CUTE romance, and a hilarious protagonist.

First of all, I loved the main character, Harper.

She’s not just your rough, tough, bad-a heroine. She’s all those things. But she’s also real. I love how socially awkward she is, her homey-ness, her strange humor. And her cute crush. Which is saying a lot for me because I generally find these kick-butt heroines to be cool but WAY overdone. Not Harper!

The plot is fast-paced and interesting with a great variety of happy-upbeat scenes, intense scenes, and gut-wrenching scenes. I loved all the little sci-fi elements, just enough to introduce someone to sci-fi.

And the romance is.....AD-O-RABLE. I loved that it felt YA-relevant. It wasn't way over the top and grown up. It was awkward, and funny, and sweet, and new.

Can't wait for the sequel!!

HARPER by Jo Cassidy
Such a fun read!
Harper is only sixteen but she’s got mad skills when it comes to being a spy and is getting better every day with training and cool gadgets from her employer. There a couple of mysteries going on involving possible terrorists and a stalker. There’s a lot of action.
She’s not so savvy when it comes to being a teenager like making friends or even a boyfriend. But, there’s a tiny bit of romance. Her love interest Akiro was adorable in his pursuit of Harper and instead of mean girls there are sweet girls who shower Harper with love.
Harper may be a loner and rough around the edges but you can’t help but love her. Her dedication to her family was so endearing (I want a pair of the cute owl gloves her mom made her), and I love that in the middle of chaos she learns the benefit of others having your back.
Overall a 5-star book and I’ll be reading the next one 😊.

Harper series book one

I read Good Girls Stay Quiet by Jo Cassidy. That made me decide to check out the rest of her titles. This book runs through situations like a hurricane. You can’t catch your breath. The main character is wonderful and all the side characters are well developed. The story is fun and chaotic. It’s definitely a must read.

I read this in 2019 but am only now getting around to adding it to my Goodreads library. I took notes while I was reading and that is what I am using to write my review.

Setting: A future San Fransico, around 3000. Similar with just more advance electronics.
Main Characters: Harper is a teen in training to be a secret agent. Akiro is her boyfriend and Pearl is her best friend. Everly is her employers and Wyatt is a bad guy.
Plot: Harper is on a mission to see if Akiro's Dad is a terrorist. She also has to find out who is spying on and threatening Everly.
Solution: (No spoilers) She tracks the bad guys, works on her fighting skills, breaks into apartments and learns she works better with a team.

Romance: Harper is attracted to Akiro but worries he might be involved in a case she is investigating and doing something illegal. He is in love with her for her honesty. The romance was not the focus of the story, getting to know each other and learning to trust was a focus in the storyline.

Opinion: I liked Harper and her snarky remarks but just as her character was hard to get close to, it was hard to get absorbed into the story. The story was fast paced and had lots of action to keep me interested. It looks like a story that is setting up a series (It is). I didn't every feel much suspense in the mystery, Harper is too flippant to bring any tension to the plot. The story was more fun and I could see it as a Disney TV series.
