When Manhattan chef Jake Maxwell, walks into the Rock Bottom Bar and Grill, he’s hit with an overwhelming sense of belonging. It’s not the place that feels like home, but rather the bombshell behind the bar armed with a quick wit and a fresh sharpie.

Ashlynn Hicks is fighting to keep a roof over her family’s head, despite her father’s addictions that threaten to tear it all down. She knows better than to fall for the city boy’s charm, but something in his eyes provokes a dangerous feeling of hope.

Hope isn’t real for girls like her. It’s fleeting and leads to nothing but disappointment and heartache. Still, this unlikely pair are drawn to each other, despite the ghosts of their pasts threatening to tear them apart and the devastation that leaves them staring down the barrel of a gun.

When shots are fired, they find out that while separate they may be broken, together they are bulletproof.

Samatha “Sam” Harris lives near Baltimore, Maryland with her husband David and daughter Ava. Born in Florida, she migrated north which most people agree was a little backwards. She has been an artist all of her life, a Tattoo Artist for more than ten years, and a storyteller since she was a kid.
Sam has a slightly unhealthy love for Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and Jazz and Blues music, but her first love will always be reading. From Romance, to Thrillers, to Historical Fiction and everything in between, she loves to become a part of the story. As a writer she tells the stories that she would want to read.

What a story! This book was one that really had me hooked and dying to know how things were going to work out. My heart broke for Ashlynn and everything she was forced to put up with in order to take care of her family and keep a roof over their head. Working her butt off every day and not getting anything but attitude from her sister and criticism from her father would be enough to break even the strongest person, yet Ashlynn keeps pushing through day after day.

When Jake finally has enough of his life in the city, he finds himself at the house his grandmother left him after she passes away. Not sure what exactly he wants to do with his life he finds himself at the local bar where he lays eyes on the beautiful, sassy bartender. From the moment they meet he is drawn to her and knows that no matter what he needs to break down her walls and have her in his life.

However, Ashlynn doesn't have time for romance and dating is definitely not on her agenda. It becomes Jake's mission to be there for her any way that he can and hopefully it will be enough for her to let him in.

Get ready for some serious drama, suspense and of course some HOT steamy moments because the chemistry between Jake and Ashlynn is off the charts!! A must read book for sure! By Alisa

Samatha Harris is an author that I have enjoyed before I was excited to have another book from her; Bulletproof did not disappoint.

Ash and Jake are both interesting, dynamic characters. He is the “poor little rich boy” trying to find his true place in the world- even though he (thankfully) avoids acting like it. She is a hard working young woman who has more responsibility than she should for her families well being. From the very beginning, I enjoyed the dynamic of these two. They are likeable as individuals, but even better together and their chemistry is off the charts.

The well written plot went in a direction I didn’t expect and I appreciated the different path taken. I feel like the author avoided an “easy” out in terms of the conflict of the story and instead took a more creative path that added layers and took the book up a notch. My only complaint- and I use the word loosely- is that I wish there had been a touch more building up to the big conflict/resolution. There had been hints via the behavior of certain secondary characters, but a little more ground work would have upped the tension a tad.

Overall, this was an entertaining and unique story. I am looking forward to what Ms Harris has coming next.

This took a little bit of getting into, but when I had it was a fabulous story.

Camden didn't feel right taking over the Maxwell empire when his father died. It was not what he wanted, it got so bad that eventually he walked out. His grandmother had left him a rather rundown but big house in an isolated little town called Merrittville. He remembered coming to visit his grandmother and had good memories and this is where he fled to, he wanted to find out what he wanted to do. He went for a drink in a rundown bar called Rock Bottom and this is where he met Ashlyn who ran the place nearly single handed looking after her delinquent sister and alcoholic father.

There is a lot more to this story that pulls you into their lives... will it be a happy ending????

Ashlynn has no interest in love or a relationship as supporting her family both financially and emotionally doesn’t leave much room for anything else.

Jake had the career, the wealth and the lifestyle but what he didn’t have was happiness. While considering what direction he wants his future to take he meets Ashlynn and knows that she is what his life has been missing.

Their journey is filled with intrigue, twists and heat and it shows that with the right person by your side you can overcome anything and anyone.

Ash is a woman who puts up with a lot when it comes to her family. Her father is horrible in my eyes, while her sister is not that much behind him, and their favorite target is Ash. I never understood why she kept working with them, because they were just such colorful metaphor after colorful metaphor. I do account the treatment she puts up with from her family, to have her acting out pretty immature at times. And it's never so ever present as it is when Jake gets to town. He hated his life in Manhattan, so he moves to the house he inherited to start a new life on his own two feet. He put up with a lot from Ash, which was a slight sore point for me, though I truly loved him since he was just a good guy. No matter what Ash dished out, he took it like a champ, though again, I wouldn't have blamed him if he had snapped once or twice. Anyway, they have some chemistry which won't be denied for too long, as they just fit together. Will they actually be able to build a life together though with her family always selfishly trying to mess things up?! You'll have to one click to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Jake and Ashlynn have an interesting first meeting. He leaves with a reminder on his forehead of how sassy Ash is. Ash pegs Jake as a good looking man who is in town and looking for a little fun with her before he heads out. Little does she know, Jake has roots in the town and is contemplating his life while he is there. He doesn't want anyone to bother him, so he does a little embellishing in order to keep his privacy. Ash has her own issues, especially when it comes to her father and her little sister. Running a bar and keeping watch over her family seems to be a full-time job for Ash. I did think she showed a lot of gumption, but found her to be a bit immature and she lashed out at Jake a lot. I thought he put up with a bit much from her at times. He was definitely there for her when she needed him. I thought he was pretty level headed and did a good job of trying to be true to himself while keeping those he loved happy. Felt it was a pretty quick read. There was a bit of darkness to it, but I felt it did the characters justice.

WOW!!!!! That's the first word that comes to my mind about this book...I truly believe that this is Samatha's best work....EVER!!!!

He hates his life in Manhattan. He's a multi millionaire! YET he doesn't want the life that was spread out for him. " Jake" didn't want anyone to know who he really was because he wanted to earn his own way and let me say that right there earned him swoon points with me.
She was brought up with nothing. She had to fight to keep the little her and her family had. WHY> because her father is a selfish man and would only thing of himself.
Now because of the need to run away "Jake" meets Ash and it's on. They are perfect for each other in every way there is. This book was just amazing. It had everything in it to make is amazing

This book tugged hard at my heart string. Ashlynn has such a beautiful heart. She is taking amazing care of her family, even when they don't deserve it, in my opinion. But she loves them. I personally would have been like see ya, but that's just me. I don't fault her for it. I actually think it shows her strength. Jake is the perfect example that things and fame and money don't bring happiness. Only love and friendship can do that. I fell for him right away. Ashlynn and his tug of war was my favorite. Talk about a swoon worthy story. I felt like I was in the pages with them. This book consumed me.

When Jake Maxwell needs to escape from his family obligations, he heads to the small town where his mom is from to fix up his dead grandmother's house. He soon meets Ash, who is everything he wants in the world. Her family life is awful, and she is guarded, but he's determined to be her boyfriend.

One catch, he failed to mention he is a rich executive from Manhattan.

The chemistry between the two is amazing. You want to one click this one right away!

This is a new to me author and I will be reading more of her works. It was slow going for me to start the book but after a while it really took off and it turned out to be an enjoyable story. Jake needs a break from the demands of his family and obligations ever since his father‘s death. He just doesn’t want to take over so he escapes to his mother’s hometown and his grandmothers house. That’s where he meets Ashlyn. There is an immediate spark between the two but Ash keeps him at a distance because she can’t add any more to her plate. The more he comes around the more he wears her down but will his past and family obligations finally catch up with him? Will Ash be able to forgive him when she learns the truth? Overall this was a very enjoyable book and I recommend one clicking it.

Jake needs a break from demands and expectations since his father dies. Taking a break he heads to his deceased grandmothers house.Unclear in his direction he heads to the only bar which happens to be the only place that sells liquor. Here he meets sassy Ash (Ashlyn)

Ash has a lot on her plate, she is barely keeping her head above water. There is an immediate connection to Jake but she keeps him at a distance believing that she can't take on more thing.

But the more Jake is around, Ash slowly lets him in... but their is a storm brewing. Will they be able to survive?

I liked this book but it felt fast paced and jumpy in some parts, over all though, this was a good book. Definitively one-click now.
