Witch’s Path #7

A Witch's Magic

Rate this book
No rest for the wicked means no rest for good witches. Michelle thought ridding the world of demons would finally give her some time to rebuild her magical reserves, but fate has other plans. Someone has unleashed magical mayhem on her town, inflicting its residents—magical and mundane, living and inanimate—with all kinds of dangerous spells, and she’s the only witch capable of containing the damage. She can’t even have a date night with Elron without things going to the dogs. Dogs whose barking can send people flying across rooms, for starters. To add to her misery, the premier of all the witches has chosen Michelle to be her successor, but tragedy strikes before their plans can even start. Michelle’s never wanted to be a politician, and navigating the treachery of the clans proves to be a deadly game—one that Michelle doesn’t know how to play. As Michelle struggles to solve one witch-made emergency after another, the evidence mounts that a freak accident may actually be an act of mass murder. She needs to find enough reserves of magic within her to uncover a sinister plot before time runs out for everything—and everyone—she cares about.

I think that so far this is the best book in the series.
Michelle and Elron are engaged to be married, but after completing the spell to wipe out all the demons on earth, it seems like she might have burned out her magical abilities. Now her family, Ethel and especially Elron have to figure out how to make her want to live again. (This comes from the end of book 6.)
As she starts to get a trickle of power back, Michelle finds herself wondering why Elron doesn't want to start planning their wedding, especially since their lives are linked together. On top of that, Ethel is pushing her hard, she plans on announcing that Michelle is going to be the next premier at the upcoming convention.
Then at the convention, near the end, Michelle is challenged by another group of witches to a trial by magic, to prove that she has the power necessary to be the next premier. With her power levels so low and not near what she used to have, she does her best, but loses the battle. Not that she has to be a powerful witch to be the premier.
When she gets home, Michelle plans on facing down Elron about making wedding plans and going back to work with the police in her area. But in her mind, she is worried that the things she was planning before her near burnout are what is stopping Elron from making plans and all the worries have her second guessing herself.
Then she gets a phonecall from one of the police officers she works with. Ethel has been in a serious car accident and is presumed dead, they're not sure because one witness said they saw a elderly woman walking off into the woods, but Suzanne, her aide who was in a car in front of Ethel's car told them no one escaped from the car before it burned up.
With so many terrible things happening in her life, what is Michelle going to do now.

This is mostly a standalone story. Mostly because there is carryover from the previous books where Melissa was selected to become the next Premier which is the leader of all the witches. And the ongoing question of when are Melissa and Elron going to set a date to get married. With that in mind this was more of a mystery than previous books which to me were more simple paranormal fiction. I suspect this series may continue for quite a few more books since there are plenty of adventures for Melissa and company to have.

This one opens with the happy couple dining and Melissa id pushing for a wedding date. They agree to spring and she pushes for them to begin picking flowers the next day. However the next morning she receives a phone call notifying her that the Premier was involved in a car accident and may be deceased. Due to fire they can't be sure of the bodies inside the vehicle. And so begins the next adventure. Is the Premier dead? Is she missing? What exactly happened? And why are there so many crazy happenings in the local towns where magic gone haywire?

This was well written with enough clues to guess who did what before the reveal if one is paying attention. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Great paranormal urban fantasy series

This is a great paranormal urban fantasy adventure series. Awesome cast of characters and a great storyline. Michelle Oaks is a once in a mini generation which. She is very powerful and was born with a mark of a specific type of which. Only rarely or which is born with this mark. in this world most which is belong to which clans. Michelle Grup outside of the clan system. You can read the earlier books to find out why. In the last book Michelle was injured while trying to save the world from demons. She is slowly billing up her powers and returning to work And trying to live her life once again. Plans were put in motion by the Premier witch which is basically kind of like the president of all the witches. To make her the next Premier to replace the current one when she retires. She must convince all the witches to support her Yet there are some who may not agree. Plus plenty of other magical mayhem going on in her neck of the woods. After reading the other books you will know what kind of magical mayhem I’m talking about. Read on and follow the adventure.

Michelle is gradually recovering from banishing the demons, her magic is slowly coming back but she has no idea how much will return. She is getting used to the idea she is the next witch premier and is hoping to set a wedding date.
One her first day back to work she gets some unusual calls. Dogs at a shelter are blowing fireballs or barking with enough force to send people flying. A cat at her witch supply shop is on fire. The coffee shop customers are being affected by magical coffee. Then when she is supposed to meet Elron for a nice dinner, the silverware is fighting everything.
To top it off, the premier is in a car accident and appears to be dead.
There is something happening all over and Michelle is trying to figure it out.
This book has a bit of everything, some action, mystery, suspense, surprises, and humour.
A lot happens in this book, somethings are serious, some are humourous but dangerous.
This was a really entertaining book, not quite a serious in spots but underneath the humour there is a serious thread.
Another good addition to the series.

Starting again

It was a hard journey for Michelle to reach this moment.  I liked the reset and the new challenges she had to face because of her diminished powers.  All through the previous books we see her grow and develop and face impossible odds, and now we see her back at the beginning, or even behind that, in a position where she feels diminished, especially after being able to do so much, she feels like now she can't do enough.
Again she faces opposition from her own people, challenges at work and a mystery that affects her in a very personal level.  With her self doubts affecting her, she is slower to respond and to follow the clues, but when it matters the most, she again shows that the strength of her character and her spirit are as important as her magic reserves.
With Michelle we had already reached a level where it was hard to see where else she could go, she already faced extreme challenges, what else could go against her?  But with this reset to her powers we see her back at the start and we get to see her grow once again and the stakes are high again.  I'm glad we still have Witch's Path for a while.

I thoroughly enjoyed delving back into the world of Michelle and Elron. Michelle is the sort of person I’d love as a friend. And Elron is so interesting. I’d love to know more about his past. Without spoiling anything, I loved how there were no easy answers for Michelle after what happened in the last book. I loved the magic mishaps in this book but would have liked a definitive answer as to whether it was related to the other storyline in the book. I may have to reread the series before book 8 comes out next year.

Excellent Story

Things were confusing for Michelle, trusted individuals were behind a plot to kill the Primer and use her. But she managed to save the day! I know a vague review but I hate spoilers. A friend saw me reading Songs of Ice and fire and spilled the beans about the Red Wedding. Arrgh, so if you want more detail here is an idea read the book with great characters and a fast paced story line!

a strong return

Michele faces hardships in this book as she tries to prove to the police and the witch community that she’s ready to get back to work and wield her magic again. Trying to play politics while magic runs amok gives Michele a run for her money. Add in some kidnapping and this book is full of drama and intrigue with a very cute ending.

Wild magic and betrayal

Michelle has been chosen to be the next Premier, over watch for all witch clans, when the current Premier steps down or passes away. Michelle has time before that time comes. At least she thought she did. Strange magics, car accidents, and an abduction knock that timing to the curb. Will Michelle find the answers she needs?

Lots of Surprises

Michelle has a very rough time in this story with wild magic gone awry. She is constantly being called out to assist the police, even when someone close to her disappears. Loved reading this story.

It's a pretty good read!

The continuity of the series is impressive! I'm ready for the next installment. It has echoes of "The Discovery of Witches.". It's a lighter read, but still enjoyable.

Michelle Becomes Premier, Almost

I love Elron. He puts up wit a lot. I also love Ty. For a mechanical construct, he seems real. The situations in this volume are really scarry, even for a witch.
