Our heroes have gone their separate ways in an effort to save Trip and unify their fight against the Overseers who have an evil plot to take over not only this world, but all worlds. Mike asks for, and receives help, but not in any way he could have prepared for as Jack finds himself in the uncomfortable position of filling Otter's shoes. Can Jack and Mike find a way to destroy the evil that has been unwittingly unleashed or will they succumb like every other civilization the enemy has encountered?
Mark was definitely in his element when writing this one. There are few authors that have me cracking up laughing like Tufo does. Until Asabron, the Shrouded World series was entertaining for sure, but now it is really coming into it's own.
Picking up from the strange universe where the crew seems to be pulled to and stuck in the city of Valhalla, things just get stranger and stranger. Jack is still paling around with his other self from this reality, while Mike's prayers are answered with the arrival of "help." Except, the B.T. that comes isn't the quite the same B.T. from Mike's world. This one comes from a place where he never became a cop, never stayed in shape, and absolutely hates the obese asshole version of Mike from his world. All the while the journey to find Trip and try to get out of this world is quickly filling with more nightmares of every variety. Also, helicopters do exactly what they were intended to by physics... try and kill you.
I continue to enjoy the crazy ride of A Shrouded World. The addition of demons was a stroke of greatness. Not going to say how - that would be spoilers - but it just is. And the interplay between the main characters is the driving force of what I enjoy in all this. This may be a Tufo/O'Brien collaboration, but it's Tufo's style that truly brings the narrative all together in a resoundingly positive way.
My review is the same for any book regarding something written by Tufo or O'Brien. When can I have more!!! Snarcasm and the apocalypse\Night Runner\transdemensional meets Adventure Time. That sounds like a good book to me lol. I love the characters and this series.
So.... how do you address fans not caring for Jack... by turning one of the best characters in the Tufoverse into a plot device adding a second Jack. Literally double down on the iffy elements of the story. The Mike parts are still good, though getting a bit confusing mentally mapping alongside the ZF timeline as both are ongoing series. This entry felt... stagnant.

This was a great read, as good, if not better than the first four books in the series. I couldn’t put the book down. The collaboration of two excellent writers, whose writing styles are unique unto themselves make for an excellent story.
Goes hand in hand with the series although the chapters are way long. I read during lunch break and stop at the end of a chapter but not with this book.
BT and Kalandar, just freaking awesome! This book was twisty and a little hard to follow a couple of times, but overall, it was an excellent adventure!
Great book. I entered into this series being a MASSIVE Tufo fan but not knowing Johns work, so it took me a minute to really get into John's writing style and to get my head around Jack's background story. Five books in and I cant get enough of them. Looking forward to the release of book six. ***** Reread review - this book is just as good on the reread as the original reading. 5*
