Icehome #4

Angie's Gladiator

Rate this book
As an a’ani warrior, my life matters little. Cloned from the same matter as thousands of others, I am but one of many. Here on the ice planet, though, I can start over. I can become my own person, have my own needs, my own wants.

I know what I want. I have known since the moment I arrived.

Her name is Angie. She is human, with sad, lonely eyes and a very pregnant belly. To her, I am not just another clone. I am Vordis, the one who laughs at her jokes, tends to her needs, and makes her smile. I will do anything to make her mine.

But my brother and fellow clone Thrand thinks the same way, and he's just as determined to win her. Will I have to destroy my bond with my brother to win my female? Or will he cause a rift between us that's impossible to mend?

Damn but I love the world Ruby Dixon made in the Ice Planet. I love these, sweet, protective, and sexy Aliens so much. I was so glad that Angie got her story and we readers got to find out the secret of her pregnancy. I loved Vordis Aka hot sauce so much. I loved Angie and Vordis together and I really loved how bad the knock knock jokes were. I just love this whole series and the connecting series. They are one of my happy places! I can't wait for the next one.

Angie and Vordis

Better than I expected!

Imagine that you go to bed one night and after a long relaxing sleep, you wake up and surprise surprise:
1. You look around and you are not in your room.
2. Instead you are in a frozen place
3. You are possibly inside a spaceship that has crashed on this frozen planet
4. Blue big weird looking blue humanoids with horns try to explain to you that you are safe.
5. Some other human girls in furs insist that these huge blue guys are actually the “rescue team”.
6. Then you have to accept a disgusting parasite inside you in order to survive the cold otherwise you will die.
7. Oh and you are also pregnant!
You are absolutely sure that you were not pregnant when you went to bed and now you are not even sure which year exactly you went to bed. And you are not sure what is this thing growing inside you.

Not only this...but also imagine two big red identical guys following every step of you, stalking you when you go for a walk, watching you when you are eating and never talking to you.

Vordis: “I mean that you are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I do not care that you have a child in your belly or that you cannot resonate. I know that my eyes have only ever seen you.”
Angie: “Figures that I'd land on a planet with some guys that have a pregnant lady fetish.”

Angie is extremely calm considering all these facts. No nervous breakdown. No screaming. No crying.

Vordis is one of the red guys that follow her around. He has been created and grown in order to be a gladiator and a slave. Same like his brother. He has not learn to think and act independently. And he also knows that his life is entwined with the human girl. He needs to protect her.

"I always think of you." His voice grows in confidence and defiance.
I can't help but feel pleased at that, even if the meaning behind it is more innocent than my brain makes it. "Because you're a'ani?"
He pauses, and I look up at him again. In the near-darkness, his eyes are the brightest things, glowing from within and illuminating the sharpness of his features.
"Not always because I am a'ani," he admits. "Sometimes because I am Vordis."

I laughed and cried a lot with this story. Angie and Vordis create a perfect union. I was so happy for both of them in the end.
This is one of my favourite books in the series.

The clone wars!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💙💚🖤❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😚😌😉🥹😘

The heroine: Angie - she woke up from a cryopod on an ice planet after being abducted by aliens. She is distressed to find out that she is pregnant and has no clue how she got that way or what kind of alien impregnated her.

The Hero: Vordis - he is one of a thousand clones, created to fight in the gladiator rings. He and his clone brother Thrand were on their way to new owners when the ship crashed on the ice planet. They think it is their job to watch over and protect Angie, though Vordis wants her for himself.

The Story: When Angie finally talks to Vordis and tells him she would like a pickle and he goes off to get her one, he thinks she is messing with him, and becomes remote again. She is lonely and just wants a friend. Though she is attracted to Vordis, she thinks it isn’t right in her condition. She feels apart from the other women since they rarely talk to her about anything other than how she is feeling or how the baby is doing.

Vordis doesn’t think he is worthy of Angie since he is a’ani, a clone created to be a slave. Angie doesn’t think Vordis wouldn’t be attracted to her because she is pregnant with another’s baby. However, both of them yearn for each other. I liked this romance and they had a ton of chemistry between them and I love how dedicated Vordis is to Angie and how protective he is. I also enjoyed the way Vordis and Thrand were always competing with each other.

The book is told in dual points of vie in dual narration where the male narrator does the chapters in Vordis’s point of view and the female narrator does the narration on the chapters in Angie’s point of view. The narration was done by Sean Crisden and Felicity Munroe who did a great job and are very pleasant to listen to.

I am a fickle thing. I often get 30% into these books and am like, “they’re all the same, I’m never picking up another one.” And by the time I end it, I’ve switched to, “they’re all the same and I find that comforting.”

Who doesn’t like a consistently 3 star series? It’s so fine, and I like that about it.

It was a OK read.

But it was a little bit slow and was kind of formulaic even though it was about a new kind of alien and a already pregnant human.
It was the same misunderstandings and miscommunication as in some of the other books.
It felt rehashed.
The chemistry was not really there either, even though Vordis was a sexy cinnamon roll.
There was sweetness between them…. But the heat and the chemistry felt wooden.

And there was some oddness with how pregnant women were portrayed….🤨
Like pregnant women could not flirt or have sex or be loved.
But also that Angie herself thought she could do very little or nothing because she was pregnant…. Even though there were other pregnant women doing all sorts of things.

I have read many of the books in this Icehome series…. And there is kind of a “theme” going on in this series that is not really there in the Ice Planet Barbarians series.

In the Icehome series many of the heroines/FMC seem and act so immature and horrible compared to the Ice Planet Barbarians series.

Not really Angie (the heroine) in this book even though she was annoying in other ways.
But some of the other women…..act like immature teenagers and there was/is a weird undertone or foolishness in the antagonism and bad innuendos towards the love interests (heroes/males leads)…. It is at times over the top and very cringeworthy.
And some of the male leads can be annoying in other ways …but the immaturity and hostility in some of the female leads in this series is just so over the top and unnecessary and rehashed.

Can someone please explain the hold the ice planet barbarians series has on me ???

I haven’t been able to get through a single other book since I started this series. There have been so many new releases this past month that I had preordered and had been so excited for, and are now they are all just another title on my TBR.

Ice planet barbarians is just all I want to read right now! Why?! They are great but they are not THAT great 😅

Angie & Vordis foreverrrr 🫶🏾

💙 Bookish Thoughts
One of my favorite couples of both the Icehome and IPB series!

This was a reread and I honestly loved it more this time around! It was seriously funny and had me cackling. Vordis and Thrand are so clueless and have no idea how funny they are. And don’t get me started on Liz! I swear Liz shines even more in this series.

Even with how funny this book manages to be, it also covers a lot of sensitive topics. I love the way Ruby gets you to think deeply about topics you never would’ve given a second thought. Reading Vordis POV on freedom from slavery and his identity as a clone had me 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I felt similarly heartbroken with Angie’s situation of waking up on an alien world pregnant and no clue as to how that came about!

✨ Fave Quotes
“Knock knock.” She laughs even more, and the sound is wondrous to hear. “Who’s there?” “It is I, your mate,” I tell her proudly.”

“There is an overwhelming pleasure to the thought of nights with Angie and days at her side, our children in our arms. I want this more than anything.“

Angie woke up to discover that she's on an alien planet. On top of that she's very pregnant, without any memories of getting that way. Vordis is a clone who has been enslaved all of his life. He also wakes up to discover that he's on an alien planet. He and his "brother" Thrand had instructions implanted in the brains that they need to protect Angie, but Vordis feels more for her than just protective.

The first time that I tried reading this was in October 2020. The story didn't grab me, so I stopped halfway through. I wanted to continue the ice home series, so I decided to try this again. I didn't remember the book very well, so I borrowed the audiobook and started from the beginning.

This is a cute book, but not a favorite. Angie thinking that she couldn't have certain thoughts when she was pregnant was annoying, but I understand that she was in a strange situation. And while Angie and Vordis had a lot of miscommunications, the way that they cared about each other was really sweet.

Another great book in this series!

Angie and Vordis are such a nice couple and they deserved their happy ending.

Poor Angie wake up pregnant and doesn't know when of how she got pregnant. She's terrified that she will gave birth to a monster. She's wondering if she were raped or she was experimented upon. And she's rightly terrified.

Vordis doesn't know what to think. He's a'ani, a clone, and was always a slave. He doesn't know whything about being free, but he's been programmed, with his brother clone, to protect Angie, so that's what he will do.

Both of them starts getting feelings for each other, but their different upbringings generates a lot of misunderstandings even if they do try to communicate. Where one think that she/he has clearly explain something, the other understands something totally different but cositent to his/her prior life. Still they try and try.

Vordis' brother Thrand doesn't make things easier. He's always underway and always competing with Vordis, even if he doesn't feel any attraction to Angie but just obbeys his programming. He's also terrified of loosing his brother and being alone for the first time in his life.

The descripton of Angie giving birth and Vordis loving help is lovely. The baby is born and is beautiful and obviously not a monster. But Angie would have loved her all the same and that's lovely too!

I hope poor Thrand also gets his story. At the end of this book he's forlorn and sad...

If you know anything about these two charters, and if you read any books in this series before this you do. You know that this book could have went any number of ways and there was so much story and so much in the air with these two characters. Well I have to tell you this book was beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I loved it so much, I loved the charters Angie and Vordis, and I love how Ruby Dixon wrote the story it was beyond perfect and I am so glad she went the way she did with this story. Angie and Vordis are so great together. Vordis isn't what I though and thats in a good way, I liked him but I wasn't sure how it would all work out with Thrand and him and Angie. Seeing Vordis and Angie find there was together was so sweet and I also really liked seeing Thrand and Vordis's relationship. After reading this one I can't wait for Thrands book. We think we know him but in this book we see that we don't an we also see that he may not know himself as well as he thought either. I would rater this book a 10 if I could.

This is the sweetest romance possible ...well possible for a pregnant woman. I've been waiting for Angie's story for so long, I almost forgot about it. But I am glad to read it.

I am not in a mood for a long review and since it is #5 of the series, you either kind of know the situation or you don't want to start series from middle.... ;)

This was my most anticipated release for this series - and it did not disappoint!

My heart really ached for Angie. The last thing she remembered was going to sleep in her own bed. Now, she is waking up on an alien ice planet heavily pregnant. And to make matters worse, she is being protected by two red men called a'ani that claim that they are dedicated to her. She felt like she was a walking incubator to some strange creature. Nobody really saw her because they only looked upon her tragic story. Vordis, however, was different. While he was one of the a'ani that was dedicated to her, he really saw her.

I'm still amazed by Ruby's writing. She has such a vivid and creative imagination to keep these series going for so long. Not only that, but to still have people enjoying them month after month. She's great.

Angie's Gladiator is book 5 in the Icehome series and my favorite so far. It was sweet but also heartbreaking. Vordis and Thrand are a'ani warriors which are basically clones. They are raised to not be individuals or to think for themselves but Vordis has always felt differently and now that he is free he wants to be seen as separate from Thrand. The interactions between the two were heartbreaking because Thrand has difficulty understanding what is happening with his brother. When the clones are awakened on the new planet they feel a connection to Angie and are immediately protective of her. The only difference is that Thrand sees her as a duty and Vordis wants more. Angie seems to be the only one really looking at them because she can always tell them apart. I really liked Angie and my heart broke for her. I can't imagine waking up pregnant and on a strange planet with no idea what is in your belly. Vordis was such a loving, caring male and tried so hard to win Angie's affections. Such a wonderful story that I wish was longer.

Vordis & Angie's story

One of the sweeter, funnier installments of the series. There were notably less steamy scenes peppered throughout the book, however, the friendship/slow burn romance that forms between the characters is a treat to read about. We also have the new concept of clones thrown in by the author. She hasn't dabbled in that element of sci-fi before, so it was interesting to see how it played out in the Icehome setting.

I found both of the characters to be charming in their own ways, and watching them come to care deeply for one another kept me smiling throughout my reading experience. The humor is corny, as per usual for these books, but it was corny in a way that made me giggle out loud.

It's dumb, but it's a good kind of dumb. That basically describes how this entire series is to me. It's the exact kind of silly escape I need right now, so I'm having a blast reading through them.

Wow 😳 another gladiator so soon

I love Gladiators strong fighters and these twins are hot and red. The story begins with Angie pregnant and miserable on this ice planet. At first you feel so sad for her because her situation is worse than the others but she had two fierce protectors. Thrand and Vordis take care of Angie and make her feel like a goddess but she only has eyes for one alien man. Vordis is starting to develop feeling for Angie something that has never happened to someone like him. He thinks he is sent here to serve Angie and protect the baby in her belly but he starts to fall in love. I’m not talking about no sad love either. I’m saying dangerously in love Beyoncé style and baby 👶🏾 woah.

This was so hot I could not put it down and I had a busy day.

This was sweet and sad and filled with hope

For my romance readers

-light ow/ om drama
-no cheating
- lots of babies
- adorable kissing scenes
- slow burn
-alien mating
-lots of laughing 😂
- 3 or 4 intense fights on the beach
And did I say gladiators ⚔️ 🗡 🌊

Happy reading everyone 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Loved this one.
Loved Angie… well she was a bit of a whiner but I get what she was going through. But Debbie downer she def was at times.
Loved Vordis

These ex slaves are heartbreaking, sweet and innocent in the ways of love and sex, so loyal and faithful and endearing. I cannot danger enough.

Angie could have not been so obtuse where Vordis is concerned. And sexy times came much later in the book. But this was sweet!

Wonderfully sexy science-fiction love affair

I recently discovered Ruby Dixon while suffering a bout of the flu and now 20-ish novels later I’m caught up. The Ice Planet Barbarian series and now also Icehome series are resting happily in my favourites list. I’m still sick Ms.Dixon so please write faster!

For Angie’s story I was so glad that it was a little more tame. Now I’m not one to post spoilers, but since it’s obvious Angie is preggers, I’ll let that slide.
The fear and newness of her situation called for a more internal lusting romance than a balls-to-the-wall adventure. I mean, giving birth covered that LOL

The Vordis/Thrand “twin” paradox was super fun to read and explore the diffraction of self in a single functioning action dual organism...wow that sounds like a biology thesis! Anyway it was very interesting and NOT a PhD thesis.

I loved the character of Angie and all the things she’s trying to sort out. Is it right to like someone if you’re knocked up? What about right after giving birth? All the thoughts she had were so real and viable, including knowing she was being left out and talked around because her sitch was different than the others. She was responsible and yet still a woman recognizing what she wanted trying to go after it in the best way she could for the time and circumstances.

This was the most romantic story so far in the Icehome series. I loved it with every fluttery beat of my heart pumping out all those feels!

I totally and completely recommend this, but you should definitely start at book one so you are not confused as to basics of what is going on in this amazing series with its wonderful cast of characters and world building.

Angie and Vordis! This was more of a really sweet romance and a slow burn. Which definitely made sense considering Angie is very pregnant at the beginning of the story, gives birth, and then is only a month out of giving birth when the story ends.

Vordis, an a’ani warrior, cloned from the same matter as thousands of others but finally has a chance on this new planet to become his own person. From the moment he’s arrived he has wanted to protect and care for Angie, a pregnant human woman. But his brother, and fellow clone, Thrand thinks the same way, and he's just as determined and thinks it’s a competition to win her.

I loved how sweet Vordis was to Angie and how determined he was with his dedication and protection to her. There is also difficult talks with his clone/brother Thrand and how they do not need to do everything together all the time in this new planet, they can be their own person for the first time ever. We get some of the human ladies introducing spin the bottle to the planet. And I just love the supportive network of all the human women and just all the clans in general too helping one another out.

Miss Ruby is an amazing writer and she's got me addicted to all her series. Here we finally get Angie's story and find out about her mysterious pregnancy. Vordis and Thrand are still guarding her but she doesn't really know why.

We learn about the A'ani clones and why they are "dedicated" to Angie. But Vordis' feelings run deeper and it takes him a while to talk to Angie about it. There are some major misunderstandings but all ends well.

The first half of this book is Angie pointing out that she's pregnant every three sentences.

This one was interesting in concept because we learn a lot about the world (or we at least have even more questions), but I'm so exhausted by these characters who endlessly harp on one insecurity for pages and pages. I think I'm done reading these for awhile. I desperately want more self-assured female characters. Being inside these women's heads is driving me insane.

Simply enjoyed❤️ No real outside chaos, just typical simple people drama from lack of communication (as usual…lol), but with funny bits too.
🍅🌶️🫐 Ketchup, Hot Sauce & Blueberry, Oh Mi 😆😂🤣… still thinking about that one, wonder if the rest get condiment references too?? 🤭🤭🤭

Loved that Vordis & Thrand are written to eventually each be their own person⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ felt bad/sad for Thrand didn’t fully understand, glad for their outcome though 🙂 Thrand & Vordis are ‘brothers’ once again ☀️☀️

just my opinion… I think Angelette is a pretty name, yet Glory not so much & a poor choice since the it’s obvious that they (majority of the aliens, natives, barbarians) cannot pronounce “G” 🙄
Angie is Ann-shee, Georgie is Shorshie, Gail is Shail, Bridget is Bree-shit 😆, etc…

🤨 I haven’t decided if I like Tia or not… definitely not amused by her🤨

Gotta wonder if the Qura’aki clone (Glory) is a rare & hot commodity that someone had 2 bodyguards assigned to it & it’s vessel (Angie aka the incubator-not being rude) surprised they’re not tagged with trackers or something 🧐🤔

Angie and Vordis’ story! Angie arrived to the ice planet pregnant and last she remembered was going to sleep back in 2010. Talk about waking up in a bad dream. Luckily for her, the ice planet and their barbarians saved all on that ship from being slaves… including 2 hot clones who happen to want to protect her. Vordis is the one who she ends up falling for and is just a super sweet story. Not a ton of spice, but it works for their story. Enjoyable read as per all of these.

The first time I read this, to be honest, I didn't want to continue the series past Willa's Beast, because Veronica and especially Willa's pairing is the only one I cared about. Besides which, like many, I had a few, ahem, assumptions about this book and just where Angie's romance would take her because, y'know, there were two guys interested in her. Notwithstanding that the title of this book makes it pretty obvious that Angie only gets the one guy, thank goodness, I thought it would be a back-and-forth love triangle in which she's attracted to both of them but then ends up resonating to one and yada yada yada angsty romance.

Fortunately though, as that is not the case, I can safely say that I was quite pleasantly surprised by this story from start to finish.

What prompted me to give is a chance is that, take it all in all, I really like Angie as a character. Unlike Lauren, who's organized and a fit-it person, Veronica who's clumsy, and Willa who's just plain gutsy and unconventional, Angie's the group's all-out nice and caring gal, the pregnant one who doesn't really have high hopes for herself because "her hotel has no vacancy"--her words, not mine. Anyway, I really liked her role in Willa's Beast though, and so I thought I'd give her love story a chance, regardless of whether it'd be a love triangle.

For what I got though, I was pleasantly and sweetly surprised, in that this story is adorable. Granted, it's not as, er, raunchy as the other ones, but I think just a sweet little bundle of emotional bonding is necessary sometimes, eh?

Anyway, I'll be moving on to the next book in the Icehome series, and hopefully get through all of the books this time! *fist pumps*

'"We are not fighting." I step away before Thrand can shove me again. 'We are disagreeing...with our hands.'" LOL

For my last reread I tried this on audiobook - still loved it, but it was an unusual experience! The sa khui are made to sound like Vlad the Impaler......Oh but Vordis and Angie are divine! Still love this book (after 4 reads!)

This is probably my favorite of all the Ice Planet books. It is sweet, unusual, and fun. I can't imagine waking up pregnant on an alien planet and not freaking out, but Vordis is there helping her deal with all the drama. He is an a'ani clone dedicated to helping her and her child, but he wants more...he wants her heart.

This is such a clever story! There are so many swoon worthy moments like when he calls Glory his daughter, or when he brings her pretty leaves....listen....if there is a character representation of me in the IPB, it would have to be Liz...I am not the fluffy romantic type of gal, but this story is my absolute fav!
