Maybe its me, but I struggled with this book. Having loved the first 3 books and bought the next 6, I hope its a slight glitch.
I seem to be in the minority, but to me the pace was a lot slower than usual, DI Nash, was hardly in it until the end. Just popped up every now and again to remind me which series I was reading. The first few chapters were all over the place, and it wasn't until the last 3-4 chapters that things started to fall into place and DI Nash reappeared more prevalent.
I was heading for a 2 star rating but the last few chapters pulled it back to 3 stars.

Wow, just wow. This guy has a great imagination, no plain Jane police procedural here. Oh no, we have a conspiracy at the highest levels. But when a bunch of innocents get caught up in it all DI Mike Nash takes it upon himself (and his team) to seek justice for the pawns in this deadly game.

The wife and children of a British soldier serving in Afghanistan die in their home of carbon monoxide poisoning. A house fire kills a scientist's wife and a man who turns out not to be her husband. But where is the husband? A drug addict is murdered in a bizarre way shortly after. He turns out to be the son of the missing scientist. Who also has a daughter. And where is the daughter???

Nash must again risk everything to get to the bottom of this seemingly unconnected series of events. Again it is hard to say more without giving spoilers but I highly recommend these books. I was therefore ready to go straight to book 5 despite having many others in the queue. Imagine my joy when I saw that series went up to at least book 10. Imagine my horror when I couldn't get any of these e-books from Amazon, or any of my fallback suppliers. Apparently there is a new publisher and I'll have to wait until its all sorted. In the meantime I am going back to book 1 What Lies Beneath.

Killing Christmas is book four DI Mike Nash series by Bill Kitson. Due to staff storage, DI Mike Nash hopes to have a quiet Christmas and New Year. However, that did not happen. He became involved in several incidents, from a house fire, a family poisoned by carbon monoxide, and the disappearance of a scientist's daughter. Are all these incidents connected, and why is the military blocking his investigation? Killing Christmas's readers will continue following DI Mike Nash's investigation to discover what happens.

Wow, Killing Christmas is another fantastic addition to this excellent series by Bill Kitson. I enjoy how Bill Kitson puts the trust and turns in his stories that engage me with the plots and the characters from the first page. I love Bill Kitson's portrayal of the characters and their interaction throughout this book. Killing Christmas is well-written and researched by Bill Kitson. I like Bill Kitson's description of the settings of Killing Christmas, which allows me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

The readers of Killing Christmas will learn about the dangers of gas appliances in a home. Also, the readers of Killing Christmas will understand the consequences of brainwashing a person over many years,

I recommend this book.

I really tried to get into this book. I kept going back to it but unfortunately it was a struggle too far and I had to admit defeat. I couldn't relate to any of the characters and I really prefer something a little faster paced. In the end I had to put it aside unfinished. Sorry

A superb story about the murder of a seemingly unknown woman - "Martha" a sixtyish woman- who had a date with and went on a couple of visits with retired DI, John Matthews.

After a dinner date, John drops Martha off at the B&B, Two Bells. Martha is stabbed through the heart later.

DI Mike Croft, a friend of John's, is on the case. Somehow there is a link to a "huge" black dog that terrorizes people and other animals.

We find out that Martha is not all that she seems to be. This, with help from John and Tom Pollard, an 18 year old who also spent time with Martha.

Excellent characterization and plotline, RECOMMEND!

Many Thanks to Joffe Books and NetGalley for an intriguing read!

Wow. This is another heart stopping ride in the thrilling DI Mike Nash series, which gets better with every book.

It’s winter in Helmdale and a young family are struggling to stay warm in their army accommodation. The mother leaves the gas fire on, unaware of the carbon monoxide leaking into the room. Her husband, a veteran of the Afghanistan conflict returns home devastated, vowing revenge on those responsible for the death of his family.

Nearby a house fire kills a woman and her lover. Her drug dependent son is already dead from an overdose. When her daughter is kidnapped with military precision, suspicion falls on the devastated soldier.

Only Mike Nash isn’t convinced. The daughter’s father is a prominent scientist, working at Helmdale Pharmaceuticals. Nash is refused entry by security guards working for the military. Pressure from the Ministry of Defence to drop his investigation, convinces Nash to keep digging.

Only the truth is even more complicated and bizarre than he ever imagined, especially when all hell breaks loose at the pharmaceutical company.

It’s a complex, multi-layered thriller that has several strands, all skilfully woven into a pulsating narrative that grips you and won’t let go. The excitement never lets up as Nash bends the rules, doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the military at every turn as the story hurtles to an explosive climax.

Even after I’d finished the book, it took me several minutes to get my breath back. What a superb ride that took me through the whole range of emotions as the story twisted one way then another. Superlative writing and storytelling throughout make this one of my favourite books of 2021.

Can’t wait to read the fifth in the series.

I was excited to find some Christmas thrillers to read this season, but somehow “Killing Christmas” had absolutely. Nothing. To. Do. With. Christmas. 🤦‍♀️🤣

Anyways🧘🏼‍♀️… as a thriller / procedural, it was pretty good.

✔️A soldier’s family suspiciously dies at home while he is on tour in Afghanistan.
✔️After a pharmaceutical scientist’s home burns down, his family members meet tragic fates one by one.
✔️Animal rights activists infiltrate a pharmaceutical lab with help from someone with revenge on their mind.
✔️✔️A charming DI with the uncanny ability to tie all of these mysteries together with very little evidence 🤔

The first 50 pages will make your head spin - multiple perspectives and timelines within each chapter made it tricky to figure out what was going on. As implausible as the plot was, the stories did come together well in the end. A lot of reviews raved about the twist at the ending… and maybe I’m missing something… but I found it pretty predictable!

Killing Christmas is part of a series about DI Mike Nash, who was by far my favourite character in this story. I love a British procedural, so I would definitely try reading another book in the Nash series. This one was just too far fetched to me!

This is the fourth book in the series of mysteries that features Detective Inspector Mike Nash of Helmsdale CID in England. Usually, these are very much a police procedural type of mystery where the reader follows DI Nash and his team as they investigate major crimes. This mystery was a deviation from that format. The primary character becomes a man seeking revenge for what happened to his family as well as his military teammates in Afghanistan. The story more closely follows this man and his activities as Mike Nash and his team is on the periphery trying to determine who is doing what to whom and why with most activities being shrouded in military secrecy. Therefore, the police investigation doesn’t get far or take center stage until much later in the story. It is an interesting story with unexpected twists and turns, it just wasn’t what I was expecting as I started to read this edition of the DI Mike Nash mysteries.

"Killing Christmas" is the fourth installment in the Detective Mike Nash crime thriller series and it’s an epically terrible book. I winced and cringed my way through it. I haven’t read the others, and, since they all star the same graceless lead character, I won’t. I sincerely feel for the editors of this book.

I have two big problems with "Killing Christmas":
1) The author plays DI Mike Nash’s offhand racism for laughs.
“As he was waiting, Nash drew a sombrero on his pad. Clara grinned.
‘Don’t worry about it,’ Nash told Ramirez...He put the phone down. ‘Mexican Pete revisited his toxicology findings on the two Gorton victims.’”
FYI – “Ramirez” is Professor Ramirez (we’re never given a first name but all signs point to Peter). He’s a pathologist and he and DI Mike Nash appear to be colleagues not friends. It’s strictly professional. There’s no indication that Prof. Ramirez is aware of or in on the whole “Mexican Pete” thing. His obliviousness makes DI Mike Nash’s “joking” that much meaner and disrespectful.
2) I couldn’t get past the author’s bizarrely romantic spin on the sexual relationship between a 30ish grieving kidnapper (Steve) and the teenage girl (Jessica) he abducts and drugs. I’ll skip the tragic circumstances because no amount of backstory can make this right.
Steve: “There was a reckless abandon to their lovemaking that night...
She’d been willing enough, more than willing in fact. But he should have been stronger, should have had the willpower to resist; might have done too, if she hadn’t been so damned attractive. He knew Jessica wasn’t a virgin; at least he hadn’t that guilt to bear. ”
“Any regrets?”
Jessica: “Not for me,” she told him. “But what about you?”
Steve: “Not for a minute. I was worrying about you.”

"Killing Christmas" peaks on the cover and goes downhill fast. But the cover IS Iovely. Admire it then go read one of Peter Robinson’s excellent Inspector Banks mysteries instead.

DETECTIVE INSPECTOR MIKE CROFT RETURNS TO THE GREENWAY TO FACE HIS MOST PERSONAL CASE YET
A WOMAN IS FOUND STABBED THROUGH THE HEART.
A dry, hot summer on the Norfolk coast. Former police detective John Tynan falls in love for the first time since his wife died. Then the woman, Martha Toolin, is murdered. But everything he thought he knew about Martha was a lie.

THE HUNT IS ON.
Martha was a stranger to the area and was seen arguing that day with a teenage boy. He becomes the number one suspect. But it turns out she was a con artist who exploited the vulnerable and elderly. Even her name is false.
SHE IS A LIAR.
The number of people who might have wanted her dead multiplies. Who was she and what did she want with John Tynan?
A MURDER MYSTERY AND SO MUCH MORE.
And then another body is found on the beach . . .

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series!
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable.
Great suspense and action with that adds so much to the story.
Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down.
Can't wait to read more of these.
Recommend reading.

I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.

DI Mike Nash has another baffling case. The, serial ladies man, ends one relationship and hops into bed with his next conquest in the blink of an eye.
A soldier is on a top secret mission. His Co sends him off to take on the Taliban while he arranges for the Rescue helicopter. He hears it arrive, then take off, without him. He makes his way back to base only to find his wife and kids were killed in gas leak accident. He goes home to bury his family. In his grief he decides it is time for payback.
DI Nash meets him and his neighbour, a recent soldiers widow, left with 3 young kids. Nash finds himself pulled into the soldiers payback, via the lovely widow.
Well enough said. You can imagine some if it but you would need a very good imagination to guess the twisted plot of this latest escapade.
Another excitingly good yarn.

You reap what you sow.

So it's two fifteen in the morning, don't know where the time has gone. Just had to finish this book.
Bill Kitson has this gift of luring you into the book in the first few pages, switching location to a different scenario and drags you further in. You are confident all is related, however diverse it may seem.
A widowed army sergeant in Afghanistan is sent home on compassionate leave, upon learning of his family's death.
A woman is asleep in bed with her male lover, as her female lover is unavailable. Her highly regarded scientist husband is away for work. Her daughter believed to be at boarding school, and her drug addict son is stoned somewhere, out of sight, out of mind.
Seven die - Why? . What is the connection between them?
The answer will astound you & the end justified the means. Superb.

A unique storyline that started with a gripping prologue (or introduction as the book states) It's the festive season and quiet it's not! No rest for the wicked.... or the detectives trying to have a peaceful Christmas.
DI Mike Nash has incredible intuition and form for thinking outside the box. Nash is up to his eyes again with one crime leading to another with a lot of brick walls to navigate around, or knock down! What is the MOD trying to hide? Nash isn't going to let a little bit of the official secrets act stand in his way of investigating a murder crime. Still, there is always time for a bit of romance for the charismatic detective. Has he no shame! His casanova behaviour is quite amusing and gives a lighthearted reprieve to the seriousness of the story.
A twisty page turner and thoroughly enjoyable.

Fascinating

What a complicated plot . A young soldier loses his wife and two children to faulty MOD equipment in his home . He returns from Afghanistan to bury them and grieve . He also plans revenge against an evil Major who left him for dead over seas. What follows is a well planned "attack" to get that revenge . Truly a well thought out planned series of events follows which ends up with DI Nash and team getting involved . Great read.

Excellent story as usual. Lots of twists and turns with a very satisfying ending. I am always wary of any military involvement as I come from a military background and my partner was an MP redcap. But, the procedures and descriptions were quite accurate. It’s always good to see Mike Nash get the upper hand of those responsible. Really well written with enough detail to become hooked and unable to put it down his characters are so real and believable it’s easy to get invested in them. Looking forward to the next book.

This murder hits close to home for DI Croft. Investigating the murder of a woman of many names and personalities, Mike finds his friend may have been targeted by a con artist. As the detective team follows the clues, the prime suspect changes too often to keep up. Who was this woman that she had so many enemies? A good read that will give your brain a workout as you try to figure out who done it.

Brilliant!

This is the maybe the 5th or 6th detective Mike Nash book I've read recently, all were great, but this one was the best so far as the story expanded so much further than the others, could I say it was ' meatier'?

I started this collection almost at the end and worked back, as I often do.

Everyone is totally believable, and there isn't anything I don't like about them, apart from the end.

Don't let the title put you off, Christmas is only mentioned in passing.

For me personally this was not quite as good as the previous book in the series, but enjoyable enough. Many of the elements here crossed over into the 'thriller' genre and less emphasis was on the police procedural. There was also not a lot of new development in the characters, other than to reinforce some of their existing traits.
(I started reading this as a seasonal read in December. Other than the title, there is little mention of Christmas in the story.)

Addictive

Great read. Bill Kitson's crime thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat, it will also keep you awake at night as you turn the pages to this addictive read Killing Christmas. I was sad with how it ended. Is there going to be a book 5 to rectify this? I truly hope so.

Sad but Brilliant

When I get chance to pick up one of Bill’s books, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to put it down again. They’re just getting better and better. Which I didn’t think was possible. This book had a sad element to it, but still all the action. Another highly recommended from me.

Less of a detective story

But a murder mystery, nevertheless. The use of drug cocktails to enhance performance of military personnel is blown apart by a soldier seeking revenge for the death of his family. Nash is involved and the team continue there support to bring the murderers to justice. They all succeed.

Another great story

Another great story in the Inspector Mike Nash series and one that I could not out down until I had finished it. Great strong characters and an excellent story line. Nash is an unconventional policeman who is able to get the desired results in his own way. This story is as good if not better than the others that I have read by Bill.

I was not sure how this book would go to start with but it was full of intrigue as to what would happen next. Nash does not seem to have a lot of luck with his women but it does not stop him trying.
The problem I have with this series is one I start reading one of the books I find it very hard to put down

Don't understand the title because there was almost no mention of Christmas, but I liked the characters and the plot kept my attention. The MKultra connection provided an interesting twist. It's been a while since I read the first books, but Nash was not as much of a focal character in this one. Sometimes letting secondary characters get more of the spotlight is a good thing.

Very good read

This is the 4th book in the series. It has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. The characters are well developed and believable, making this a difficult book to put down. If you like crime and adventure books you'll love this one.

Page turner

Another page turner, with twists and turns. However I would have liked a different ending even though I know it would not have been plausible. Nash always gets the villains in the end, one way or another. Would recommend the book to anyone into detective books.
