Luci is a serial dater, always on the lookout for Mr. Right. Heck, even Mr. Right Now would do, but even he seems to be missing in action. She's definitely not feeling the Christmas spirit, so when her boss dumps the major task of organizing the entire company's Christmas event on her lap to get the promotion she's been desperate for, she's more than annoyed.
Alex is struggling with the holiday season too, but for an entirely different reason. Not only was he recently dumped by his longtime girlfriend, but he had to let a suave doctor move into his spare room. If having a new roommate wasn’t annoying enough, Luci takes on look at this guy and swoons. Can’t Luci see that Sebastian is just another player who will just break her heart? She deserves better than that!
Luci struggles to pull off the double duty of capturing this new man's attention and creating the ultimate Christmas event to wow both her company and Sebastian. Will Luci be able to pull off both? Should she try to pull off both, or was Alex right all along?
This Christmas novella will have you laughing as you relate to the character's struggles at the holiday season.
Contemporary Romance & Chick Lit with sizzle and sass
Brynn North's goal is to write fun, witty, and relatable books that leave you with a smile and laugh. Her heroines are often finding their way in life, in and out of relationships. Her characters may not always be perfect people, but hey, neither are we, right? She hopes that you can see another perspective or even parts of yourself in her books and realize you aren't alone in figuring this whole life thing out. Her books are chick lit or closed-door romance, perfect for readers who love chemistry and sizzle but no explicit content.
She is a Minnesota native and still lives in Minneapolis with her family, loving it for approximately eight months out of the year. The other four months she dreams about moving to a warmer zip code. She is a total cat lady, with the best cats in the entire world. #sorrynotsorry
This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Sometimes we struggle with the holiday season and then we struggle when our bosses dump things in our lap for us to do.
Luci wants to find her soulmate. She is constantly doing things to discover him. Now she has to plan this extravagant party for Christmas for her work to please her boss. So she turns to her best friend Alex to help her.
Alex has been dumped by his long term girlfriend because he can't make the commitment she wants him to make. Then Alex is getting a Dr for a roommate.
❄️❄️ So it is possible to have some Christmas stories that are pretty lame, and this would be one of them which I found on kindle unlimited. Luci is an underachiever and self-absorbed IT worker. Her boss wants Luci to plan a charitable Christmas project and puts her in charge. Her best friend and neighbor is Alex, her college crush. But Alex just broke up with his girlfriend, and he’s trying to dig himself out of a depressive hole of self-pity. Enter Alex's new roomie, Dr. McGorgeous, who starts hitting on Luci (still with me?) and promises to help her with this Senior citizens project that will bring her some well-deserved work recognition until he ghosts her because he’s too busy having multiple girlfriends. If this seems like the worst review, it’s because it was a pretty bad book. Lucy wallows in self-pity because her project sucks, but at the last minute, Alex saves the day. Honestly, I don’t care if this has a happy ending because I didn’t like anybody in the story. You might want to pass up on this one. #hohohum #christmas #Romance #underwraps @kindle_unlimited ❄️ #christmasreading #books #bookstagram #book #bookish #lindaleereads2021 #reader #peace #love #joy #readinglife #winterreading #December ❄️ #ChristmasBook18
“‘I need to come across as put together, independent, and of course, hot.’ How that would happen in a matter of a couple of hours, Luci had no idea, but she had her hopes up high. The salesperson flicked her expertly made-up eyes at Luci. ‘Seems like you’d want to be that girl for yourself first, not just for some man.’”
The quote above (specifically the salesperson’s response) is a perfect representation of how I felt towards the main character for much of the story. Luci was very clearly focused on the wrong things. Alex, the other main character, was equally clueless.
Full transparency: I forced myself to finish this one because it was so short. I wanted to DNF pretty early on. Unfortunately, not recommending it.
When Luci’s best friend Alex and his girlfriend broke up she was by his side to help him through it.
When Luci falls hard for Alex’s new roommate Alex doesn’t like it. He tries to tell Luci the guy is no good but she will not listen. She believes all his lies.
Luci has an assignment to plan a party for seniors for her company giving program. She asks Sebastian to help her plan it. She starts spending lots of time talking to him and texting him but nothing is getting done.
Can Alex convince Luci to forget Sebastian? This is a quick read with a couple laughs and a solid story.
This is a good debut novella with some likable characters and a not so likable character. If you’re looking for a Christmas read, that will have you laughing in parts and wanting to slap someone up side the head in others, you will enjoy this quick read. Based on this story, this author has some promise. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.
you had me at Christmas, love the cover. great setting. characters. jumping into that scene. like a snow globe view. i never get the novella ... but then i see short story ... i know i get the length of the read is the point but so many authors say it differently or it appears they are in different categories ... any who ... i enjoyed it. i wanna read more. so can't wait. check this one out.
First, book I read by this author. I thought that she had a good storyline. Luci and Alex have been friends for years. They are always there for each other and believe that's all they can ever be. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a clean read.
I really enjoyed reading this story. Alex and Lucy have been friends since school. Alex's feelings changed when this playboy came into Lucy's life. Couldn't put this book down. Highly recommend this book to everyone.
An entertaining read. A great short story that flows well and engages the reader into the angst of dating and friendships right away. Luci's growth and maturing process was a joy to experience. Looking forward to reading Christmas Crush next.
Very quick read, cute and well written especially for the size! Didn’t feel like I was missing any vital backstories or anything. Did want to yell at characters multiple times lol but hey, that tells you how real it felt!
As you might remember from last year, I’m a big fan of holiday reads. I read this book back in December 2020 but didn’t review it in time for the holiday season. So, I decided to include it as a “Tales from the Backlog” title in December 2021. When I read this novella, I was excited about the friends to lovers trope because I usually lean more toward enemies to lovers.
Some Things I Liked
Holiday storyline. I loved that this story takes place around the holidays. I love holiday traditions and the way the season brings people together. Friends to lovers romance. I thought this was a cute plot. It’s not my usual cup of tea (I prefer the romance to start with snarky banter and characters that hate each other 😂) but this was a fun change of pace. Helping senior citizens. I loved the unique idea that Luci had about helping seniors. I thought this was such a great idea and it’s not something I’ve ever seen mentioned in a story.
Series Value
There’s not much more for Alex and Luci’s story. However, I think the theme of the store clerk who aided both Alex and Luci helping other couples could be a fun theme. I’d read another story about a couple she helped.
Final Thoughts
This was a fun, quick read. If you’re looking for some last minute books to squeeze into 2021, give this holiday romance a try.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a short and sweet read about Alex and Luci who are friends but once Alex breaks up with his girlfriend he finds himself caring a little too much about Luci’s personal life. While Luci hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to men she thinks Alex’s new roommate might change all that.
I really liked the characters and the storyline while nothing new was cute and who doesn’t like the potential best friends turn lovers story? The author makes it easy to root for these two to get together, their chemistry is amazing and they are simply great and funny characters. If you want something light and easy this is definitely a read worth the time.
