Jeremy Lachlan

A former bookseller, he completed his Honours degree in creative writing at the University of Canberra in 2004, and now calls Sydney home. His debut novel, Jane Doe and the Cradle of All Worlds, was the 2019 Australian Book Industry Award winner for Book of the Year for Older Children, and its sequel, Jane Doe and the Key of All Souls, was shortlisted for the same award in 2021, but both of those pale in comparison to the $100 he once took home in a karaoke competition. He came up with the idea for the Jane Doe Chronicles while lost in the Cairo Museum.

I will never, ever get enough of Jane Doe. She is such a badass, and I bloody love her.
The end of this book had me tearing up, folks. What an adventure. Fast paced from the very outset - in fact, it is fast paced from the outset of book 1. It’ll sure get your heart rate up.
As well as Jane, I bloody love Violet, Hickory and Aki. There are not enough words for me to describe how much I loved Jane and Violet’s relationship, with all the blushing and awkwardness and beautiful queerness. We need more books for young people with queer representation, and Jeremy Lachlan’s duology is an excellent place to start.
Cannot recommend this duology enough!

Ugh I hate the few times this has happened, but here we are again. I loved the 1st book so much, & this book immediately follows the ending of that one. But for some reason, even though the MC POV NEVER once said the Lord's name in vain in the 1st book, she all of a sudden had to say GD CONSTANTLY in this one. I think the total times it is in here was 36. 36!!!! Whyyyyyyyy? What kills me is when a character would be about to say a "lower level" cuss word (I call the cuss words that are allowed to be said on local stations that lol)they would be cut off-every time. Like those were way worse! Ugh. It's so frustrating. This is a personal thing that may not bother you. If it doesn’t, you may really enjoy this. I loved everything else about the story & writing, & I'm just so disappointed. It's so unnecessary. So I won't recommend because of that, & didn't give it a star rating on GR. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

The author informed me that the US editions are free of the word GD, so that’s why I didn’t see it in the 1st book(my copy of the 1st book is a US edition). So I’m so excited to hear that! I will definitely do a reread in the future with all US editions to have a fully positive experience, because other than that I loved these. And since I loved these so much, now that I know the US editions don’t have that in there I will add a star rating on GR, & highly recommend this(US edition of course). So if this is also something that is a personal issue for you, then the US editions are a go!💜

Another great adventure in the Jane Doe series. Personally, I like this better than the first book. But in saying that, to understand Jane, you need to read book 1.
Lachlan’s writing is more at ease with Jane in this book. I’m guessing there is a little bit of Jeremy in Jane .. I felt more connected to her .. I felt the adrenaline, the fear the excitement, her character is growing.
This is a beautifully crafted story with an ending that leaves you excited, but also frustrated that I will have to wait for book 3 now..
Jane is a complex girl, finding her place and who she is in the world.. is it Bluehaven, the Manor is it Earth. ?
This book is like an onion, it is slowly revealing the layers of Jane, her reason, her destiny, her loves, her skills ... we are not only reading the adventures of Jane we are watching her grow and blossom before our eyes.
I am looking forward to book 3 and I can’t help but wonder, has Pooja Desai been set the task to presenting the Otherworlds visually? I’d love to see a map of this amazing world Lachlan has created for the Jane Doe series.

Het is vaak zo dat een tweede deel van een serie toch nét iets minder is dan deel een. Wel, dat is bij Jane Doe absoluut niet. Sleutel der zielen is een geweldig vervolg waarin al mijn vragen werden beantwoord. Jeremy Lachlan zorgde er weer voor dat ik van het ene avontuur en complot in het andere vloog, geweldige achtergrondverhalen van de verschillende personages en alle puzzelstukjes die mooi op zijn plek vielen. Soms gebeurden er wel erg veel dingen tegelijkertijd waardoor ik me echt moest focussen maar dit maakte het aan de andere kant ook razend spannend.
Een waardig vervolg en zowaar nog beter dan deel een!

This book is amazing and it does well to pick off we’re it left off in the first book, it’s action pact like the first one and I love how it shows a slow but quick interpretation of Jane and violets reaction ship and how it grows into something new, I that aspect of the story, it can be very relatable. I loved this book more than I loved the first and it was a fun read. I can’t wait for the third book to come out (Jane doe and the quill of all tales)!!!!

Love.
But we all already know that. There’s a few things besides tho, which is what took away the fifth star - because I realise I can’t just give five stars to books I don’t adore with all my mind, soul, body and existence.
1. Roth, le villiano. We all know my favourite villain, but he was both the most horrific villain that I actually factually ligiterally cried at the absolutely… unthinkable things he did - and the most adorable, cutesy, baby ily villain. but this one… he doesn’t have any character except growl and ‘you’re mine,’ and gross mushy tomato mouth, and at the end he was still loving Neela (source of his evil backstory) but, like, that seems a bit ooc and unrealistic. Anyway
2. The main source of this book was to get to teh ‘Cradle’ which is this place with a sea. And the sea was all the spirits of these Gods. And when you get there and do the ‘blood of the innocent’ thing, you can command the sea. But why would someone who is innocent want to command the sea when the only thing you can command it to do is ruin things??? Anyway. Minor lil blips, but that kind of stuff is what took the star away.
However! The humour in this book is even better than the first! The way you can picture it in movies, the way he can take all the tension out of a scene that doesn’t need tension like that just- you gotta read it to know what I’m talking about so I’ll shush.
But this book has so many twists and turns and secrets and the plot was really smart. Probably a few unnecessary action scenes at the end but I still loved this book.

This really is a fantastic middle grade book full of adventure and interesting characters. I would have loved reading this back when I was the target audience, but still thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Awesome to have books like these coming from an Australian author :)

Het is een duologie. Kijk 's aan, dat mag ook wel eens een keer. Jammer genoeg is het ondertussen van 25 juni 2020 geleden dat ik Boek 1 heb gelezen, zie ik, en natuurlijk staat ook hier weer geen handig 'Wat voorafging'-stukje erbij. Ik was bij het begin van dit tweede deel dan ook totaal vergeten waar het juist over ging.
En om eerlijk te zijn: ik denk niet dat ik het nu wél volledig snap. Er zijn wel dingen boven komen drijven, natuurlijk, maar hoe de hele vork nu weeral in de steel zit... nee, dat kan ik niet meer zeggen. Gelukkig is het verhaal zo ook wel te volgen, als je niet te veel blijft zitten denken over 'hoe zat dat nu weer?' Gewoon genieten is de boodschap. Het is een tof, spannend en grappig verhaal. Vooral Jane en Violet stelen natuurlijk weer de show.
Het is een aangename stijl, en ook een aangename vertaling - van Sandra Hessels. Er zaten een hoop grappige uitspraken in die je minder tegenkomt in boeken, heb ik het idee, dus dat is altijd een pluspunt. Een minpunt, helaas: er zit wel wat meer 'nou' in dan ik gewend ben van haar. En opvallend genoeg zie ik dat ik bij mijn bespreking van Boek 1 hetzelfde heb gezegd. Komt het misschien doordat de doelgroep van dit boek jonger is dan YA? Dan kom ik weer ambetant doen natuurlijk, want leeftijdscategorieën slaan toch nergens op, dat weten we al langer, en dus lees ik met graagte dit soort verhalen.
Superorigineel is het niet echt, en al bij al vind ik de wereld een beetje verwarrend, maar dat kan ook komen doordat ik dus half vergeten ben wat er in Boek 1 gebeurde. Misschien dat het wel goed uitgelegd staat. In elk geval een heel aangenaam boek om een paar uur van de wereld te zijn!

Yay, een duologie! Dit was echt een van de eerste dingen die in mij opkwam toen deze serie werd vertaald! Duologieën vind ik altijd leuker om te lezen, en ook deze stelde niet teleur. Sleutel der zielen vond ik zelf nét iets leuker dan het voorgaande deel. Alhoewel het verschil erg miniem is. In Sleutel der zielen word je van de ene actie naar de ander geworpen, waardoor het vaak erg intens werd, maar desondanks kon ik mijn concentratie zeker bij het boek houden. Het houdt je in de ban waardoor ik dit boek in amper een dag verslond. Het was een tijdje geleden dat ik het eerste deel las, waardoor ik een samenvatting moest opzoeken, maar een keer dat je dat gedaan hebt kan je meteen in deel 2 duiken. Alhoewel een kleine samenvatting vooraan het boek heel erg welkom was, net als in vele andere boeken.. Ook de vertaling was echt aangenaam om te lezen! Ook de personages maken zo'n mooie groei door.
Mijn tip; lees de boeken meteen na elkaar. Dan begrijp je het verhaal en de wereld volledig. Doordat er best wat tijd tussen zat van mij, heb ik het gevoel heel wat details en verwijzingen gemist te hebben. Maar dat is een persoonlijke mening uiteraard.
De cover vind ik jammer genoeg veel minder spectaculair dan het eerste deel. Maar ondanks dit past het wel heel goed bij het verhaal.
Nu ja, waar het dus op neer komt; ik raad deze duologie zeker aan en ik wou dat ik deze las toen ik een tiener was.

Lachlan has a real talent for making you care about his eclectic characters as they go through a wild ride, a rollercoaster through strange worlds and the compelling manor. A satisfying ending brings all the threads together, and readers are left guessing until the last page. A wonderful adventure story!

Mit "Die Wiege aller Welten" hat Jeremy Lachlan die Messlatte sehr hoch angelegt und konnte mich mit der Geschichte richtig begeistern. Nun steht mit "Der Schlüssel aller Seelen" der zweite Band in den Startlöchern und verspricht eine Menge Action und Spaß:
Jane ist verzweifelt! Das Schloss, die Welt zwischen den Welten, liegt im Sterben, Janes Vater ist immer noch gefangen und ihr Erzfeind Roth kommt dem Wiegenmeer immer näher. Die Gefahr ist größer als je zu vor und nur Jane kann Roth aufhalten und die Anderswelt retten. Allerdings gibt es da ein kleines Problem: Jane ist in Roths Heimatwelt Arakaan gestrandet und die Bewohner halten ein paar Überraschungen für sie bereit...
Endlich geht das Abenteuer von Jane weiter! Die Geschichte beginnt genau dort wo wir Jane im ersten Band verlassen haben und ich bin auch sofort wieder gut in die Geschichte eingestiegen. Mir hat der Setting wechsel vom Schloss in die Wüstenwelt Arakaan sehr gut gefallen und der Autor hat sich wieder eine sehr interessant und spannende Welt ausgedacht.
Jane und Violett erwartet eine neue Welt voller gefahren, das treibt die Spannung aber gut nach oben so das die Geschichte nicht langweilig wird. Dabei erleben wir wie Jane mit den Dingen umgeht, die sie in Band eins erfahren hat, die ihr verhalten noch nachträglich beeinflussen. Wir lernen Jane dadurch noch etwas besser kennen und erhalten tiefere Einblicke in ihren Charakter. Dennoch bleibt Jane weiterhin sehr sarkastisch, schlagfertig und trifft nicht immer die besten Entscheidungen aber genau das macht sie so sympathisch.
Durch den spannenden und bildhaften Schreibstil entsteht ein toller Lesefluss der einen nur so durch die Geschichte fliegen lässt. Vor allem mit seiner humorvollen Art die Geschichte zu erzählen kann Jeremy Lachlan wieder punkten und trifft dabei genau ins Schwarze. Auch das Jeremy nicht davor zurückschreckt eine LGBT Protagonistin zu etablieren und Gender hier keine große Rolle spielen macht dass ganze nochmal besonders.
Mit "Der Schlüssel aller Seelen" beendet der Autor das Erste Abenteuer von Jane und ihren Freunden, aber keine Angst es wird definitiv noch weitere Geschichte um die sympathische Rotzgöre geben. Das ist auch gut so denn mit den Chroniken von Bluehaven hat Jeremy Lachlan frischen neuen Wind in das Jugendfantasy Genre gebracht mit Hilfe sympathische Charaktere, spannender Geschichten die einen nicht mehr loslassen und ganz viel Herz! Die Geschichte kann Jung und Alt begeistern und ich kann sie euch nur absolut empfehlen.

Gelezen: Jane Doe Sleutel der Zielen (12+) 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
DAAAAARRRRRRR GAAN WE WEER!
Of nou ja… eerder verder. Mijn trouwste volgers smachten op niets anders dan deze soort van recensie! Want hoe loopt dit af… Ik weet het ook nog niet. Daarvoor moet ik eerst ff gaan lezen. Dat ga ik nu dus doen. Ff. Dik veel pagina’s jonge! ZOOOOOOOHEEEEEJ! Beter begin ik nu. Tot zo!
Jane moet alle Anderwerelden redden van de verdoemenis die om de hoek staat te wachten. Een paar dagen geleden was ze alleen nog maar vervloekt. Ach tja. Het leven kan raar lopen zullen we dan maar zeggen. Ze is in een enorme zandbak terechtgekomen samen met wat andere. Tja… succes!
En als ik eenmaal ben begonnen gaat ik er weer als een leipe dwars doorheen! Dwars door het zand. Dwars door het sarcasme. Dwars door de lavavallen.
Oef. Een lavaval. Dat zou ik eens willen zien in het echt. Dat ga ik eens aan de binnenkant van mn ogen bekijken… tot zo!

Zo af en toe komt er ook een woord voorbij dat ik niet ken. Synapsen bijvoorbeeld. Nooit van gehoord… Wat zou het betekenen? Wacht ff... zoek ik gelijk ff op.
Aha! Weet ik dat ook weer.
En voor ik het weet is het weer gedaan. Jammer. Ineens heb ik zin in koffie met cake. Ik zou nog best een derde aan hebben gekund. Echt wel. Maar komt dat er @jeremy.lachlan ? Er staat toch echt met dikke grote koeienletters EINDE aan het einde van het boek. Het wordt er lekker ingewreven.
En het staat trouwens ook mooi in de kast. Drie delen. Kan je eigenlijk wel van een serie spreken met twee delen? Ik niet. Bij mij begin dat bij drie. En ga nou niet in discussie met me. Of nou ja… eerder verder. Mijn trouwste volgers smachten op niets anders dan deze soort van recensie! Want hoe loopt dit af… Ik weet het ook nog niet. Daarvoor moet ik eerst ff gaan lezen. Dat ga ik nu dus doen. Ff. Dik veel pagina’s jonge! ZOOOOOOOHEEEEEJ! Beter begin ik nu. Tot zo!
Jane moet alle Anderwerelden redden van de verdoemenis die om de hoek staat te wachten. Een paar dagen geleden was ze alleen nog maar vervloekt. Ach tja. Het leven kan raar lopen zullen we dan maar zeggen. Ze is in een enorme zandbak terechtgekomen samen met wat andere. Tja… succes!
En als ik eenmaal ben begonnen gaat ik er weer als een leipe dwars doorheen! Dwars door het zand. Dwars door het sarcasme. Dwars door de lavavallen.
Oef. Een lavaval. Dat zou ik eens willen zien in het echt. Dat ga ik eens aan de binnenkant van mn ogen bekijken… tot zo!

Zo af en toe komt er ook een woord voorbij dat ik niet ken. Synapsen bijvoorbeeld. Nooit van gehoord… Wat zou het betekenen? Wacht ff... zoek ik gelijk ff op.
Aha! Weet ik dat ook weer.
En voor ik het weet is het weer gedaan. Jammer. Ineens heb ik zin in koffie met cake. Ik zou nog best een derde aan hebben gekund. Echt wel. Maar komt dat er @jeremy.lachlan ? Er staat toch echt met dikke grote koeienletters EINDE aan het einde van het boek. Het wordt er lekker ingewreven.
En het staat trouwens ook mooi in de kast. Drie delen. Kan je eigenlijk wel van een serie spreken met twee delen? Ik niet. Bij mij begin dat bij drie. En ga nou niet in discussie met me. Maar is waar ze terecht zijn gekomen beter af, op zoek naar de benodigde sleutel? Jeremy Lachlan pakt je acuut opnieuw in met vlotte actie en uiterst gevatte dialogen. Zijn toon is zó vlot en op de juiste momenten humoristisch - je subtiel herinnerend aan de enerverende activiteiten van Jane in deel 1.

This second book in the duology was quite the rollercoaster to get through. I listened to it as an audiobook from my local library.
When I was a little bit in I considered to DNF this book. There was just nothing happening, the main character, in the first book still in full middle grade mode felt all of a sudden very young adult streamlined and dull, and I felt I was dumped with information.
I checked on goodreads and the rating this book is so high, that i decided to bear a little bit longer and see if something would change. And yes, quite a lot did change.
All of a sudden there was just one thing after the other happening, characters started to interact with each other and negotiate their respective relationships. And then more things happened.
And then we came to the showdown, I don't have another word for this, it started slowly, but then ramped up and up, it was quite the experience. I would describe it as a combination of Firefly and Killjoy, Sci-Fi Western for older kids respectively young adults. It was marvellous.
Also, all of a sudden, Jane Doe was back with all her middle grade quirkiness and the slow burn romance she has building over the two books.
There were also some cringy moments, specially when it came to the ways the author chose to represent the antagonists in the story. It just did not feel right.
For the showdown alone I have to give this book 5 stars. It is that well written.

I read the first book before going into this one and I completely adored Jane Doe. Such an incredible character, possibly one of the best middle-grade characters! She's strong-willed and fun.
Nevertheless, Lanchlan writing definitely deserves more praise, and Jane Doe is fantastic in this book! Her character is developing, and I could feel the adrenaline, the anxiety, and the exhilaration. In this book, the location description is stepped up a level, and you can truly sense The Manor's enchantment. So much so that, despite the danger, I truly want to visit!
The narrative was very intriguing, with a couple turns that I didn't see coming. Overall, a fantastic book, but I wouldn't suggest it for children under the age of twelve since it has a few elements that I don't believe are suitable for a middle-grade novel. The first is the subject of infant death, followed by some minor cursing.
The end of the book left me wanting more just because of the character, but I am not sure if I will continue to read the series, mainly because I just don't feel like I am the target of the book, thus, the three stars from me.

Such a nice mental break! I’m probably one of his oldest readers, but I do recommend this book to anyone 13 and above! Easy to read, very captivating! And so much fun! He leaves no stone unturned, there’s no holes and the questions left hanging I’m sure he’ll fill in his next book. An excellent sequel! More captivating than the first, which in itself is a feat!!
Jeremy takes you into this amazing world of adventure, thrills and pummels your imagination into his! Continuing where he left off at the end of his first book seamlessly and taking your attention straight away.
No matter how old you are, I cannot recommend this book enough! Especially if you’re used to reading heavy non fiction. Resets you mind and your soul ☺️

*Trigger Warning for this book: Infant death.*
Key of All Souls definitely has a few things in it that I don't think are appropriate for a middle-grade novel. Firstly is the topic of infant death, and secondly is some mild swearing.
Aside from that, this is a very well written book. The setting description takes it up a notch in this book, and you can really feel the magic of The Manor. So much so that despite the danger, I desperately want to visit!
The plot was also captivating, and there were a few twists I didn't see coming. Overall a great read, but I wouldn't recommend it for readers younger than 13, and even then, use your own discretion.

Jane, and her friends, are now stranded in a desert Otherworld. But they need to get back to the Manor – the Manor that connects all the worlds – to fulfil Jane’s destiny.
But someone is standing in their way. A villain so gruesome and wretched, who is unkillable.
Going through betrayal, making an unlikely friend, and fighting fierce battles, Jane needs to accomplish only one thing – saving everyone.
This book is absolutely amazing, and the adventure is so, so awesome. You must be fearless. Forward is the only way.

May 28, 2021There are two things I really love about this series. The first is the world building. Because it's epic. I love the idea of the manor and all the intricacies of everything that happens in and around it. So much fun!
The second thing I love is the voice. Jane is saying so much awesome stuff and she doesn't give a damn and it makes her voice so authentic.

I'm shocked to say I enjoyed the second book in this series even more than the first! Was connected to characters, great storyline and fantastic world building. Even as an adult reader i couldn't put it down, thoroughly enjoyed the plot twists.

Ich gebe zu, beim Auftakt der Dilogie Die Wiege aller Welten hatte ich schon ein wenig Angst, dass hier wieder das Klischee vom „Mädchen, das aus schlimmen Verhältnissen kommt und dann durch eine überraschende Gabe/Prophezeiung auszieht, um die Welt zu retten“ bedient wird…
Ha, Ha!
Weit gefehlt!
Inhaltlich möchte ich gar nicht zu sehr auf den zweiten Band eingehen, denn wahrscheinlich gibt es Einige, die Jane’s Geschichte noch kennen. Daher ein Auszug aus meiner Rezension von Band1:
Jane lebt gerade so geduldet mit ihrem geistig verwirrten Vater in einem Keller. Alle glauben, sie wären verantwortlich für die zahlreichen Erdbeben in Bluehaven. Und dafür, dass sich das Schloss nicht mehr öffnen will seit sie damals hindurch gekommen sind.
Das Schloss ist eine Art Portal, die Abenteurern den Zugang zu tausenden Welten ermöglicht. Eine schöne, recht neue Fantasy Idee. Der Weltenaufbau von Wiege aller Welten ist somit kompakt und doch unendlich zugleich.
Nach 12 Jahren öffnet sich das Schloss erneut und im allgemeinen Tumult tritt Janes Vater durch das Tor. So nimmt ein unglaubliches Abenteuer seinen Lauf…
Jane ist auch im zweiten Band weiter auf der Suche nach ihrem Vater, doch weiß sie nun Dinge über sich, die sie erstmal sacken lassen muss. Auch gilt es, den fürchterlichen Peiniger aller Welten Roth zu besiegen. Irgendwie. Ob es ihr gelingt? Nun, ich sag mal so: Ich war durchaus zufrieden mit dem Ende!
Die Dilogie ist prima in sich geschlossen und doch mit einem klitzekleinen Ausblick auf mögliche neue Abenteuer.
Mein Highlight in diesen 2 Büchern? JANE! Definitiv.
Denn Jane ist wahrlich kein normales Mädchen. Sie ist der totale Antiheld! Respektlos, schlagfertig, brutal, nicht immer fair – sie war mir auf Anhieb mega sympathisch!
Während der virtuellen Frankfurter Buchmesse durfte ich dank des Loewe Verlages bei einer kleinen, exklusiven Session mit dem Autor Jeremy Lachlan dabei sein. Dabei hat er uns nicht nur schon vorab aus The Key of All Souls vorgelesen, sondern auch frei aus dem Nähkästchen geplaudert.
Am spannendsten fand ich ja, dass Jane lange Zeit gar nicht Jane war – sondern Finn. Ein Junge. Und wenn ich lange Zeit sage, dann meine ich es auch so. Für den ersten Band Die Wiege aller Welten hat der Autor nämlich sage und schreibe 7 Jahre gebraucht (12 Jahre für beide Bücher zusammen)! Also Jane hieß früher Finn. Irgendwann hat das so aber nicht mehr für Jeremy funktioniert und Finn wurde ein Mädchen. aber außer dem Namen hat der Autor nichts an seiner Hauptfigur geändert. Heraus kam ein famoses Mädchen, das nie ein Blatt vor den Mund nimmt und auch ihre Fäuste einzusetzen weiß. Auch am „perfect Match“ hat Jeremy Lachlan nichts geändert – Violet blieb Violet und heraus kam eine wunderbare Liebesgeschichte über Gendergrenzen hinaus! Ich liebe es!
Der Schüssel aller Seelen ist zwar der finale Band der „Bluehaven-Dilogie„, aber zum Glück bedeutet das noch nicht das Ende für Jane, Violet und Hickory! Jeremy Lachlan arbeitet gerade an einer weiteren Dilogie über die freche Antiheldin und ihre Freunde. Yeah! Bitte, Jeremy… versuche diesmal nicht wieder 12 Jahre dafür ins Land gehen zu lassen.

The Jane Doe series is a complicated and nuanced read, and it'd been a while since I read book 1 (read my review from 2019 here) so I had a bit of a time to get into it again. But once I did, it was a great read.
It starts with a prologue from the villain, in Roth's POV, which is the only time we get this, but in it he learns Jane has no idea she's the third key to the Cradle, which Roth wants to use to release the Cradle Sea and wipe out the Manor and any worlds attached to it.
Jane has escaped the Maze, the labyrinth of the Manor, but the worlds it connects are still slowly dying, disappearing (Earth included) and shrinking ever-faster. Winnifred the Earth librarian waits for the right time to lead what remains of Earth's people to fight Roth and save Jane.
Jane finds herself on a desert planet, separated from her friends after she storms off and a sandstorm blows in. She's found her "mom," Elsa, her father John's wife, and the woman is not at all what she imagined. Least of all motherly.
It turns out Winifred the librarian back on Earth is a bit of a legendary figure in this world, for having fought Roth successfully once, a millennia ago. But she hasn't been seen in a long, long time, and Jane's mom, Elsa, is not exactly glad to see her "daughter" back.
Because Jane isn't Elsa's daughter, and Roth killed her little boy, her son, and in some ways she blames Jane and John for that.
Jane thinks she relatively safe on Roth's home world, as it's the last place he'll look for her. She must stay free from opposing factions, both of whom want her for their own purposes, while learning as much about Roth as she can -- where he came from, what he was like before he turned evil, before he was entombed below a palace but doomed to live forever while rotting away at the same time, creating the horrible creature he is now. She must find his one weakness -- the arrowhead that can kill him.
Except someone's already found it, and now that they've got Jane, they plan on serving her up on a silver platter to Roth. With help from enemies turned allies (including a Leatherback!), she'll make it to the Cradle Sea before Roth, with her trusted friend (and crush) Violet and Roth's mercenary, Hickory.
I won't spoil what happens, just know it's a wonderful twist and a fantastic fantasy read!

Because Jane isn't Elsa's daughter, and Roth killed her little boy, her son, and in some ways she blames Jane and John for that.
Jane thinks she relatively safe on Roth's home world, as it's the last place he'll look for her. She must stay free from opposing factions, both of whom want her for their own purposes, while learning as much about Roth as she can -- where he came from, what he was like before he turned evil, before he was entombed below a palace but doomed to live forever while rotting away at the same time, creating the horrible creature he is now. She must find his one weakness -- the arrowhead that can kill him.
Except someone's already found it, and now that they've got Jane, they plan on serving her up on a silver platter to Roth. With help from enemies turned allies (including a Leatherback!), she'll make it to the Cradle Sea before Roth, with her trusted friend (and crush) Violet and Roth's mercenary, Hickory.
I won't spoil what happens, just know it's a wonderful twist and a fantastic fantasy read!

Nach einem tollen Auftakt, war ich gespannt ob die Fortsetzung mich auch begeistern kann. Ich finde die Idee hinter der Story nämlich wirklich toll, trotzdem hing es hier etwas in der Handlung für mich.
Mit dem locker leichten Schreibstil des Autors, fällt es auf jeden Fall leicht, wieder ins Geschehen zu finden. Man kommt gut rein und fühlt sich direkt wieder auf dem aktuellen Stand. Als wäre man nie weggewesen.
Wir befinden uns mit Jane und ihren Freunden noch in der Anderwelt. Es gilt das Schloss zu retten und dafür müssen sie zurück in dieses. Doch wie schon im ersten Teil ist das natürlich einfacher gesagt, als getan. Denn wieder lauern überall Gefahren, Verrat und jede Menge Intrigen. Es ist Wahnsinn, wie oft man nicht mehr zwischen Freund und Feind unterscheiden kann. Es gibt so viele Wendungen und Spannung, dass man nur selten zum Durchatmen kommt.
Sehr gut gemacht, aber es konnte nicht so sehr überzeugen wie der Auftakt. Für mich zog sich die Fortsetzung mehr, was etwas den Lesesaal für mich rausnahm.
Mit Jane hat diese Reihe eine starke Prota, die einfach super in ihre Rolle passt. Sie ist sarkastisch und mutig und absolut perfekt in ihrer Rolle.
Fazit
In einem erneut gelungenen Setting kann man wunderbar mit den tollen Charakteren mitfiebern. Definitiv nicht nur ein Buch für Kinder der, sondern auch für alle anderen Leser. Denn dieses Buch hat wenig kindliches an sich. Sie macht einfach nur Spaß und lädt zu einem Wiedersehen ein. Man geht in dieses Geschichten einfach auf und kann so schön mitfiebern. Alles in Allem also gut gemacht, wenn auch nicht so megamäßig wie der Auftakt. Daher dieses Mal leider nur 4 Sterne, aber die Leseempfehlung gibt es trotzdem.

It had been a while since I read the first book, so I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up once I picked this book up. I was wrong and it was very easy for me to get back into this world after being away from it for so long. From the very beginning, the story is captivating and fast paced and as the story goes, you grow to love and care for Jane more and more. You feel her confusion, her anxiety and her decisions as she is trying to come to terms with her purpose and place in this world.
This story takes it to a whole other level - secrets are revealed, what we thought we knew we didn't actually know for sure, strengthening in relationships and meeting new and wonderful characters along the way... love Aki!!!
So full of excitement and adventure, I am so glad Jeremy has come out with a third book which is the first in the next duology of this world.

Het boek begint exact waar je in deel 1 bent geëindigd wat fijn is omdat, je zo meteen weer het verhaal in kan duiken.
Jane zit nog steeds opgesloten in de woestijn dimensie Arakaan en nu ze weet dat zij de derde sleutel is,is ze vastbesloten om de bron te vinden.De kwaadaardige Roth is ook nog steeds op zoek naar de bron en voornamelijk naar Jane want,zij is de derde sleutel.
In dit boek komt veel samen en zo ook veel nieuwe informatie, maar dan wel zo gebracht dat je het kan blijven volgen. Er zaten ook echt een paar stukjes in die me flink verbaasde.
Ook blijft de wereld en het Slot gewoon super gaaf,er blijft veel over te vertellen. Ook is het leuk dat we in dit boek kennis maken met het mysterieuze en nieuwe land/dimensie Arakaan. Waar in het verleden al veel is gebeurd en waar Jane en haar vrienden nu op onderzoek uitgaan.
Ik kijk uit naar meer boeken van Jeremy Lachlan!
