Readers will come to know Christ more intimately and appreciate his glory as they understand their relationship to him. In vivid detail, Stott explains how Christians are to live life through, on, in, under, with, unto, for, and like Christ. Enhanced by 14 classical artworks (four by Rembrandt), this text makes a lovely and meaningful gift for readers of John Stott, art aficionados, and those who long to know more of the Savior.
John R. W. Stott is known worldwide as a preacher, evangelist, and communicator of Scripture. For many years he served as rector of All Souls Church in London, where he carried out an effective urban pastoral ministry. A leader among evangelicals in Britain, the United States and around the world, Stott was a principal framer of the landmark Lausanne Covenant (1974). His many books, including Why I Am a Christian and The Cross of Christ, have sold millions of copies around the world and in dozens of languages. Whether in the West or in the Two-Thirds World, a hallmark of Stott's ministry has been expository preaching that addresses the hearts and minds of contemporary men and women. Stott was honored by Time magazine in 2005 as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World."
John Stott is always biblical without being out of touch, theological without being abstract and challenging without being discouraging. This is a down to earth reminder of what it mean to be "in Christ". Eight devotional studies of New Testament propositions: living through, on, in, under, with, unto, for and like Christ. Although that sounds dangerously dull, in fact it was readable and encouraging. Only being 128 pages long helps, with each chapter arranged in short sections. I didn't hurry through it, given a number of other thick books I am currently reading. Just what I needed.
A wonderful meditation filled with the Word, hymns and poems bringing glory to God.
This book focuses on the Christian's life and what it means to live our lives through, on, in, under, with, unto and for Christ. We find that he is our mediator and foundation, our lifegiver and our Lord, our secret and the goal of our living, our lover and our model.
2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
''we are not satisfied by a superficial modification of behaviour patterns in conformity to some Christian sub-culture which expects this, commands that and prohibits the other...Christianity without Christ is ...a corpse without breath.' (pp109,111)
