Singletree #4

Second Chance Spring

Rate this book
Sometimes love makes plans for you while you’re busy making plans of your own...

Finding myself over thirty and divorced, living in the same small town where I grew up was not exactly the fast track to personal success.

So I took action. I landed a job with a bigger practice in a big city where I’d find more opportunities at work, and hopefully in my social life. I was ready to move on.

But when Cormac Whitewood and his adorable daughters came into my life, suddenly my big plans didn’t seem so shiny and exciting. Suddenly, I was finding myself drawn to the lonely widower, wishing for more time with him—even though he seems to have a strange fascination with exotic taxidermy.

I could overlook a lot for a pair of deep golden eyes and strong broad shoulders.

The thing is, Cormac made it clear he wasn’t over his late wife—and I’d never force my way into someone else’s family. Besides, I’d already made my plans.

So why do they feel so wrong?

Second Chance Spring is a full-length novel with an HEA about second chances, spring, and taxidermy. Okay, not really. It’s about the plans life makes for us while we’re busy making plans for ourselves, and it’s full of snort laughs, touching moments, cake, and maybe a kangaroo or two.

I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)

I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! That’s it, I’m moving to Singletree because I could have one hell of a tea party with Taylor, Maddie, and their crew of taxidermy animals. Plus what better way to watch Cormac and Paige each get their second chance at love. And now I want cake.

The book is done and with the developmental editor... it'll be ready for your hot little hands April 1!

I just put up the blurb... and I'm so excited to share Paige and Cormac with you guys. She's a doctor doing everything right -- so why aren't things working out for her? And poor Cormac is a widower with two little girls and, as he discovers, a terrible allergy to dogs.

This book is full of small-town quirkiness, festivals, dogs, kiddos, and stuffed exotic animals. And cake. I hope you love it!

Book 4 in the Singletree series and it was a great addition. Love second chance with a mix of single parent romances and this was so good. So hard to put down. Loved Paige and Cormac so much. They were both dealing with losses in their lives but one of them is not quite ready to move on. Will they be able to find their happy ever after together?

Loved this!!
This story was sweet, it was sexy, and all kinds of heart-warming!

You know those small-town romance books that have you wanting to pack up right now and move to those small towns? Well this is one of those books! I love this series and the town of Singletree it’s set in.

Cormac, a widower with two young daughters, feels guilty for noticing the gorgeous woman across the street. He feels bad for wanting to move on and getting back to being his old self. His main goal is to keep his daughters happy, no matter what. Like getting them a dog that they really really want. Even if it takes sneezing like crazy through his dog allergies. That’s what’s great father he is.

The gorgeous woman across the street? Her name is Paige. She’s a general practitioner in Singletree and has accepted another job in Baltimore, over two hours away. So a relationship is out of the question. Right?

Cormac & Paige have some serious chemistry when they’re together. It was so hot, I could feel it sizzling on the pages, with their heated looks and stolen glances. I couldn’t get enough of these two together.

Watching their relationship grow, seeing his daughters adjust, and feeling their love get stronger was a beautiful and touching experience. I just wanted to hug them all! Even the dogs!

Second Chance Spring has a bunch of small town fun with plenty of heart, cute smiling dogs, and a very romantic cake walk interruption that made my heart go pitter patter.

Have you read the other books in this series? If yes, then read this book! If no, then read this book! This is a stand alone so the other books aren’t necessary to enjoy this one.

This is the first book that ive read by this author and I must say it was absolutely fantastic, I really enjoyed reading it, I do love the second chance romance books.

This book is as the title suggests a real second chance romance, this book will pull on your heart strings and leave you desperately reading more.

This is book #4 in this series Singletree series.

Paige is a doctor in a small town and has found herself at a time in her life when things need to change. She is over thirty and divorced and still lives in the small town but she wants more. All of a sudden when a gorgeous man and two very very sweet little girls come into her life suddenly everything she thought she wanted she's not so sure.

Cormac is a widower after he lost his wife and he also has two daughters that have lost their mum, he completely adores his girls. Life has been derailed for him and he never expected things to be this way.

All of a sudden fate steps in and things change again, but can it will Cormac risk love again or risk his heart?
(NO SPOILERS).

This book will really play with your emotions and have your heart up and down on a rollercoaster.
I was really rooting for these characters especially Cormac to have a happily ever after and Paige is here for them.
This author has written this story so beautifully and I was wishing for their second chance. I was hooked on the story and loved how and where it was set.
I will definitely recommend this book to everyone when it gets released.

Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.

There's a big difference between an author adding kids and animals into the mix because readers like them, and in executing it so well that those characters are just as vivid and three dimensional as the main characters and equally steal the reader’s heart. This author does it absolutely right in this book. This is my first work from her, and Stewart has a new fan for life in me after reading this wonderful book.

They say that timing is everything in love, life and loss. Cormac Whitewood is still trying to work out the timing of his wife's sudden death, leaving him with two young girls to parent alone. Paige Turner is trying to figure out the timing of going from a small-town doctor where she feels stagnant to a new life in a big city. And love. Well, love has its own timing, and it disregards everything else. Love’s timing is particularly inconvenient when Cormac is still getting over the loss of his wife and Paige plans to leave town.

This is a setup I especially enjoy in romance. It provides the opportunity for plenty of unmanufactured angst, and the hard-won HEA is that much sweeter. These authentic, loveable characters are so amazing that reading their story felt like I was experiencing things along with them. Add in some unique, quirky characters and outrageous taxidermy, and I couldn’t put the book down. If you like your romance with tons of heart and a side of humor and heat, this is the book for you. Prepare to fall in love, because your heart’s about to be owned.

When Paige takes a long look at where she is in her life both personally and professionally she decides that it is time for her to take a leap so she leaves her hometown for a new opportunity but nothing could have prepared her for her new neighbor and his two children.

Cormac is still healing from the death of his wife and his only focus is ensuring the wellbeing of his two daughters. His new neighbor is the first woman to inspire feelings in him for a long time but are he and his daughters willing to let another woman into their lives?

This is a heartwarming story about love, family and new beginnings.

In this troubled time I just want to wrap this book around me like a blanket and take it with me everywhere. It’s funny, sweet and heartwarming in the most beautiful way.

Cormac and Paige are like bee and honey. They belong together but circumstances are not perfect. Their road to a happy ever after is long and winding and it will make you laugh and swoon, google taxidermy laws and strange animals. Not to mention you will be spending your time in the best small town in the world.

I don’t want to ever have to leave this happy place. Hopefully we will get a lot more stories added in this series. Go grab yourself some comfort food and read this book.

Cormac: single Dad
Paige: Single Doc
I truly loved this story. The entire time I read I had a smile on my face. I just knew they would be connected in such a way they would just have to fall in love. I just kept reading and falling in love with them as they were each other. So much of this story line could be a true life story and that had me feeling so connected. Fantastic main characters and side characters as well. Highly recommend.

What a cute story! Although this is part of a series it can be read as a complete standalone. Paige, a doctor in a small town, decides that life is passing her by and to get what she is looking for in life she needs to move to a bigger city. Cormac is a widower with two small children he believes he can only focus on their happiness. Cormac and Paige meets and the chemistry is undeniable. They both have these plans and theories of why they cannot be together but fate has other plans. I loved the emotions this book brings out. You become invested in Cormac and Paige you want to see them happy and for everything to workout. If you are looking for a single dad second chance romance this is your book! It is a story that draws you and keeps you turning the pages. The story is realistic and makes you want to visit the town and interact with the people.

Cormac & his girls stole my heart in Shaking the Sleigh, I was so ready for him to get his second chance at love. Delancey does a beautiful job balancing the heartbreak of loss with the growth of something new.

Cormac never expected to be a widower raising two girls on his own. Some days he’s barely hanging on. A series of chance meetings with his neighbor has his heart lightening. Can he risk his, and his girls, love again?

Paige is a family doctor in her small town clinic with the opportunity to move to the city and expand professionally. She always thought she needed to get out to fill the loneliness inside, but as she gets to know her neighbor and his adorable girls she wonders if she’s been wrong all along.

Come to Singletree for the romance, stay for the smiling dog, stuffed exotic animals, and the Cherry Tree Cake Walk! You’re gonna love it here.

description

Cormac is just trying to get by day by day with his two daughters after his wife unexpectedly passed away. His daughters beg him for a dog which he accidentally agrees to and when they go to pick a dog he runs into his beautifully sexy neighbour Paige. Cormac's allergies flare up once they bring Luke home which sends him to the medical clinic where Dr. Paige works. After seeing how bad Cormac's allergies are, Paige offers to help with Luke while Cormac lets the allergy shots start to work but when Cormac's daughter Taylor voices her opinion of Paige everything nose dives.

Second Chance Spring is a second chance small-town romance which is told from the first-person point of view and can be read as a stand-alone or as the fourth book in the Singletree series. The book plays with your emotions, will have you rooting for Cormac and Paige in both of their second chances of love, wanting to move to Singletree and want cake! This was my first book in the Singletree series and I was able to enjoy the book without worrying about missing the rest of the series which I am looking forward to going back to and reading.

This is the fourth book of Singletree series, but my first time reading something from the author. And it did not disappointment me, this is the kind of book that gives you smiles throughout the reading, some butterflies in your stomach and well, why not, makes you kind of believe in love again.

It is that sweet the story between Paige and Cormac, and I fell in love with them as they were for each other. Cormac is a single dad of two little girls, Taylor and Madison. Their mom died suddenly with an aneurism and since then their lives are a little broken. He is just living life like it’s a chore to fulfill, but there is no one who loves his daughters more than him. Paige is the doctor from Singletree, born and raise, and also she is a divorcee. Although she is doing everything right, she really feels something is missing. And now she thinks she naught find it away from Singletree.

Both of them start getting closer when Cormac decides to adopt a dog and discover his allergic, even though they were always neighbors. From there on forward they see their attraction only growing, developing a friendship and becoming companions in their solitude.

I loved their dogs Luke and Bobo, and the later is kind of protective of his owner Paige and keep growling at Cormac, and I laughed all the time. And I’m not even going to start talking about all of the stuffed animals, who gives them as “presents”? Also funny, Leslie! Paige’s BFF, she had the best lines like: “A little beef injection isn’t a reason to quit being vegan!”. But most of all, like she had Paige’s back all the time.

I kept rooting for the couple to be happy all the time, they deserved so much. They only needed to pass their insecurities and own their feelings. The speech at the cake walk? Swoon! Can I have a Cormac for me too? I love the ending, but I wish I’ve got to read a longer epilogue, I miss knowing more about their future.

Another hit in the Singletree series! I really, really want to move to Singletree. OK, maybe not move, move but at least visit for a very long time. Like maybe buy a summer home there. Then I could babysit Maddie and Taylor and play with their (not typical) stuffed animal collection, have “tea” time with Gran and Lottie, hang out with Paige, April, Tess, and Juliet (when she’s in town), and get to know this whole cast of characters. They are awesome.

Second Chance Spring is a sweet, second chance story that will have you swooning over Cormac. His wife passed away suddenly and left a huge hole in his little family. He has been trying to pick up the pieces and establish a new normal for a couple of years. He’s been stuck for a couple of years. Paige ended a relationship a while back and has decided she needs greener pastures if she’s ever going to find her happily ever after. The timing is all sorts of wrong when she and Cormac finally meet. They’ve been neighbors for years, but never really interacted except to maybe wave at one another across the street. Things are changing rapidly for both of them….

Once again, Gran makes brief appearances but totally steals the show when she does! You’ll recall all of her antics when you encounter her. But in this one, she is almost upstaged by two precocious children. Taylor, age 7, who has taken on the “mother” role for the family, and Madison, age 3, who is too cute and adorable!!! It was good to go back to Singletree.

Cormac is a widower with two young girls trying to make it through each day. Paige is his neighbor, a doctor who loves her family and small town but feels like something is missing from her life, causing her to consider a move to a bigger city. When his rash decision to get a dog for his girls, despite the fact that he is allergic, brings them together, Cormac feels something for the first time in year and Paige thinks maybe what she is looking for has been in her small town all along.

I love that this book features the type of people that you might know yourself - living their lives, working at normal jobs and trying to find happiness where they can. They are both kind people who only want the best for each other.

I have read the other books in this series, but I do not think you would have to to enjoy this book. It just gives you more background on the town and Cormac’s brother.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book for an honest review.

The struggle is real for these two. Paige is looking to move because she want to improve her life in the big city. Cormac is still haunted by his deceased wife and is at a standstill with his life. They meet and feel the spark but each is nervous because of all the previous stuff. This has some cute elements that involve taxidermy and exotic animals that I laughed at more than once.

Secondary characters are lovely. Of course the children are there and add some fun and anguish to the story. Lottie was almost my favorite. She seemed so mom-ish that I adored her and all that she does for the town.

I was anxious to listen to this because I liked Cormac in Shaking the Sleigh and wanted more from him and his HEA. I enjoyed it and liked seeing each MC come to their senses. His grand gesture was great! I did listen tor his on audio. The narrators did a good job. I wish Robyn Verne brought a little more “life” to Paige.

Cormac & Paige have been neighbors for a few years now, but recently it seems they just keep running into each other. He goes to her office to get allergy shots (in order to keep the dog he’s allergic to, in order to his two daughters happy), & he also meets her at her mother’s bakery.

While she in the process of deciding to change jobs & move to a big city, she ends up keeping his dog for a few weeks while he’s waiting for his allergy shots to begin working. They end up getting involved, but one of his kids has a hard time adjusting to Cormac dating Paige, so she continues with her plans to change jobs & move on.

Side note... I really liked the original chapter titles, but I missed how they weren’t numbered (I like knowing what chapter # I am reading & seeing how many chapters are left, which wasn’t possible here).

This was a cute story about neighbors becoming closer, with some cute kids & funny taxidermy thrown in.

This book had me at single dad. That's what drew me to this book, but all the charterers had me hooked. I love this book had humor, but it also delivered on the heart and feels. There is a lot of emotion in this book. My heart breaks for the Whitewood family especially the two little girls. You can easily see how much Cormac loves his daughters, but you can see he is a little lonely. Paige feels she has to move on the find more to fulfill her life, but maybe she just has to look across the street. The banter between the characters is one of my favorite parts of the book. You can't help, but root for them right from the beginning. I loved the small town setting. That's a big draw for me as well.

Delancey has outdone herself again with this beautifully written, hilarious, romantic, compelling and heartwarming story. This is the 4th book in the Singletree series but can be read as a standalone. Dr. Paige Turner is planning to move from her smalltown practice to practice in the big city but meets Cormac Whitewood who has lost his wife and is not ready for a relationship but there is an immediate attraction. Cormac's two young daughters are so beautifully written and bring so much humor and angst to the story. Some of the characters from the previous books make an appearance including Gran and add so much color and depth to the story which comes complete with two dogs and a lot of taxidermy animals. This one of the funniest books to come out this year.

I really wanted Cormac to find happiness after reading about him in Sleighed It. I am so glad he got his HEA. I could really feel the depth of his grief, his exhaustion being a single dad, his loneliness as a man, and his guilt when he considers moving on. Paige is experiencing her own loneliness and when they finally begin to notice each other through a series of encounters, sparks fly. The two little girls are adorable, and they are also grieving the heartbreaking loss of their mom. The way taxidermy figures in the story is an interesting twist many will find hilarious. The dogs, Bobo and Luke, are vital to the story and are solid characters in their own right. I really enjoyed this, and I can't wait to read more about the small town of Singletree.

Doctor Paige Tanner is leaving the small town of Singletree to see what life adventures she can find in a bigger city. But when she makes friends with her single dad neighbor Cormac Whitewood, she starts to wonder - what is she really looking for that she can't find right here at home?

Cormac is allergic - severely - to the new dog he brought home for his two daughters. As he visits Paige to get allergy shots weekly, the chemistry between them grows. But while his younger daughter seems willing to accept Paige as a new presence in their lives, seven-year-old Taylor is resistant to anyone taking the place of her mother.

So, a little drama, a lot of humor and small town antics.

This was a touching story about a widower Cormac that has two young girls and a young doctor, Paige, that lives near them. Cormac's world is entirely made up of seeing to his little girls and working, since his wife passed away unexpectedly. Paige is looking to move to a larger city, away from the place she lived all her life. Despite living across the street from each other there was no interaction between them and then suddenly they were everywhere at the same time. Loved the way Delancey wrote this book. She kept the feelings of the little girls in the forefront, and the internal debate Cormac was having made it seem so real. Overall a great book!
