THISday: Words for the Vulnerable and the Venerable

Rate this book
Are you tired of self-help books telling you what to do with your life? What to think? How to feel? How to fix yourself? Have you had it with trying to follow someone else’s expert advice? Haven’t you been told what to do long enough? That’s not self-help. That’s just more conformity.

THISday is like no other book of self-discovery. You’ll witness one man’s journey to newfound enlightenment and see a better life reborn from the broken words of human fragility and vulnerability to the powerful beliefs of a venerable man. While no two journeys are ever alike, by reading Philip Gabbard’s essays, you will find new paths and possibilities for your pursuit of personal growth.

THISday is a collection of lived experiences that will change your moments, your days, weeks, months, and years, into a new life that awakens and frees you from the culture of conformity:

Do the stories you tell define you? Damn right they do!

If we wander, get lost and question our enlightenment, are we still on the right path?

Is the hardest thing about enlightenment the fact that hypocrisy hates confrontation?

As we unlearn our attachment to fear, we can re-script our words and find brave ways to think, and feel, and believe in our higher connectedness. In THISday we find powerful ways by which to thrive along our path of enlightenment and to discover the words that may complete your story.

I took some time writing this review because it’s been hard for me to put into words what this book did to me. I was trying to explain it to my mum and I couldn’t. I just kept saying, “You have to read it to understand what I am feeling.”

The simplest way of saying what this book meant to me is – It’s the best non-fiction, self-help book I have read this year. And mind you, I have A LOT of self-help books this year, the most I have read in any year by many "self-help gurus". So yes, I loved this book!

The best feature of your book is the stream of consciousness, conversational flow it has. It was as if the author and I were chatting over a cup of coffee. It flowed from one essay to another seamlessly and coherently. Every essay made me sit back and think of all the words I have said or not said, the songs I have heard and need to listened to. They have made me cry and laugh and introspect and realise that I am not alone to feel or think this way. They have made me question my thoughts and beliefs and see if they’re serving any purpose. And most importantly, the essays have made me realise what a gift THISday can be on how I CHOOSE it to be. Sometimes you need someone else to tell you what, deep down, you already know, and this book does that trick.

I also loved how the anecdotes were interwoven into the essays, making them have a feel of storytelling. That kept me engaged with the book throughout. And the letters! My God, the letters! I wish someone wrote a letter like that to me. Or any letter for that matter.

Honestly speaking, I never thought I’d enjoy it so much. I thought it would be just like all the other self-help books out in the market right now. But it is SO different. Not many will get this book in one go, but one day they will and it'll blow their minds.

I will cherish this book always.

Thank you to the author for sending me the ebook.

“THISday” by Philip Gabbard is a collection of essays of one man’s journey to personal growth & enlightenment. 🧘‍♂️
.
The short essays make the book essay to read and feel like a conversation with the author. 📝
.
My two most important takeaways from the book:
.
-The WORDS you say and think MATTER. Words grow into thoughts & feelings which grow into beliefs. Think negatively and you’ll end up acting in the same matter. So, stay positive and choose your words carefully. 🗣
.
-What you do TODAY MATTERS. Yesterday is gone and tomorrow isn’t here. You only have today. Live wisely and don’t wait till tomorrow. 🌘

What ever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve. What it takes can be answered in many different ways. One way is through knowing what is personal growth. Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. .
THISday is a collection of lived experiences that will change your moments, your days, weeks, months, and years, into a new life that awakens and frees you from the culture of conformity:

Do the stories you tell define you? Damn right they do!

If we wander, get lost, and question our enlightenment, are we still on the right path?

Is the hardest thing about enlightenment the fact that hypocrisy hates confrontation?
.
How about listening it all from the horse's mouth- ThisDay! This is a self help motivational literature. Modern retelling of the psych ward stories. These are not just words but essays of thoughts put it into a rectangle and presented to you. For your brain.. And heart... Listen, how about a secret? .
When YOU exposes the NOT YOU, the NOT YOU will retreat. This life and THISday is what we make of it. Who’s making the call? Who’s deciding? YOU or NOT YOU? THIS life will not get better when other things get better. THIS life gets better when you get better.

Written Review Of "Thisday : Words For The Vulnerable And The Venerable*" By Philip Gabbard

Available On : Amazon
Pages : 222
Genre : Self-help Book

Its One Of The Best Book I Came Across In Recent Time. This Book Make You Sit For A While And Make You Think About Yourself. Its So Enagaging, I Mean Once You Start Reading Then There Is No Way Back. This Book Push You To Think About A Deep Thoughts You Have On A Daily Basis And What Not.

The Vocabulary Of The Book Is Amazing And Even If You're A Beginner You Can Easily Understand It. The Writer Had Given His All To This Book Which Makes This Book More Heart Touching.

Once You Completed The Book Then Also Some Of The Thoughts Keep Hitting Your Mind. I Not A Regular Basic Self Help Book, It Has More Than That.

The Cover Of The Book Is Pretty Simple & I Really Loved It. And I Highly Recommend This Book To All The People Who Want To Became Better And Want To Keep Growing.

Taking a friend's recommendation, I picked up this book & it was so refreshing that I had a hard time putting it down. However, once I finished, I had an easy time picking it up again. Just like a good movie you watch again & again, there are nuggets that you might have missed (or glanced over) on first read, but catch the next time. Phillip Gabbard wears his heart on his sleeve and takes you through a journey that many times over hit my "aha" moment, in that I have experienced that...or THIS. It's an uplifting read, whether you go from cover to cover, or randomly select a page or chapter. The man is a true wordsmith.

The thing I loved about THISday is its honesty. Philip Gabbard did not conform to the traditional layout, he spoke his mind as if writing in his journal, or writing to a very close friend.

THISbook really does offer enlightenment for the everyday person. He shows you his perspective on life and how you can perceive things in a different way. His words have power as all words can. Yes you may be able to find wisdom in other places, but no one can tell a story in Philip Gabbard's words, because there is no other Philip Gabbard.

However, you can tell your own THISday, and this book will show you how.
