…alone, faced with a black cloud, not knowing if you should try to find your home in that cloud again, with all the things that you’ve lost, to find your kids, who have grown up and don’t need you anymore, and your husband who once kept that house solidly in place, as if he were nailing it fast to the ground with his firm step.
Look, Luci, how with old age I forget everything, but I do remember that when I was a young girl there were boys who drove me crazy because they were very tall or very handsome. Anyway, I would act like a ninny, I was so eager for them to ask me to dance, or for even the briefest rendezvous in some square. But then, when they kissed me, sometimes it would burst like a bubble, I just suddenly stopped liking them. Because their hands were sort of awkward, I don’t know, or they had bad breath, or they kissed too hard. And others who appealed to you less when you just saw them in passing, they could kiss you and drive you crazy. The ones who knew how to caress. I remember that as if it were yesterday.
– We’re going back sixty years or more.
