Here is a book for anyone bored with their reading choices.

Fed up of the same teenage horror slasher tales. Becalmed with the predictable police procedural, with the crime duo always getting their villain. Teeth chattering as the spies never seem to stay very long in from the cold. Alienated by creatures from lagoons or falling down black holes.

These are serious comments because The Refracted is the fourth book in a series, no library, could confidently catalogue and shelve correctly.

The world has faced a terrorist led armageddon. The destruction of the planet has been offset by alien guardians stepping in and equilibrium . A young couple, Sam and Ellie (the heroes so far), have become the agents from this other dimension to oversee the rebalancing of the human race. They are linked to the British prime minister who sets himself up as the paternal leader to bring peace, harmony and stability to the nations.
His methods are simple; a revamped United Nations banishing the need for conflict and hostile aggression. A new world order of religious unity bringing all faiths together. Thirdly, the development of a sustainable fuel source removing the reliance on fossil fuels. Quite an election manifesto.

The writing is smart, on point and is character driven.

The basic ingredient of all fine literature is here. That is the balance of light and darkness and despite the other dimensional elements, the human core values good v evil which seem to spill into the whole universe.

The story has elements of political thriller. New technology pushing the boundaries of science fiction and fantasy aspects with inter-dimension travel and knowledge to engage with life on a cellular level.

Yet it reads as familiar story that captures your interest from the start and lifts your imagination beyond the mundane and ordinary.

Michelle Medhat writes with passion and great insight into the world of science and innovation. She also has great understanding of human nature and the corruption of the soul.
Dark is very dark, black as night.

While the world has been saved the collage being created to replace global terrorism here is not right. The author hints at the discord and the problems building. We as readers feel the tension which is made worse as the instruments for good and protection seem blind, duped or too much into themselves to sense the danger or sense an evil hand.

I have loved the journey this series of books taken me. I like the subtle changes with each new novel. It was quite interesting to read Ellie in the first person but remains intolerable that at the end of this book
There are more questions than answers.
It has been epic, an out of control fairground ride. A messy Roman orgy and a Stalinist purge at times. It has always been entertaining and so well written it always makes sense even when talking about the fanciful and fantastic worlds of politics and science.

It would make for an incredible visual drama; a feast of over-indulgent bacchanal. It makes Killing Eve seem a packed lunch rather than this engorged banquet akin to Shakespearean betrayal, borgia and medici intrigue and Terminator annihilation.

My review highlights the problem. Medhat is a unique voice, an undiscovered talent. She writes fiction that treats your brain like a mouth filled with popping candy. She cannot be categorised. But she is accessible, readable, consistent and recommended unreservedly.

In Between the Reality of Heaven and Earth

Ellie Noor is the Protector of Earth and her husband, Sam, is a former Special Ops agent turned otherworldly companion. Together, they are part of Kudamun, the dimension between Earthly life and the Reality apart.

In The Retracted, most of Al Nadir has been eliminated, and lead by Prime Minister Ashton, the UK is leading the charge to a more peaceful planet.

However, Ellie is concerned that all is not as it seems to be. Using the gift of SightSourcing, she reviews Ashton's actions and finds evidence of disturbing anomalies.

Through assassination attempts, family kidnapping and deaths, Sam and Ellie help Ashton try to consolidate the World powers under the name of freedom and peace.

How does it turn out? At least at the end of this book, the jury is still out. I'll be going on to the final installment to find out the gripping conclusion.

This book I’m not sure about. It seemed to go back and forth with no real purpose.
The previous books in this series I really enjoyed so with this one I was a little puzzled.
You definitely know that something is twisted with the prime minister,
He is not who he appears to be.
Something nasty is going to happen, you can feel that,
The next book should solve it.

***contains spoilers***

Following on from the last book, The Refracted carries on the pace with another gripping thriller from this very talented author. With the threat of Al Nadir vanquished, you would think that all is well with the world.

However, the book soon lets the reader know that this is not the case. There are other entities at play, from a powerful prince to an unknown Chinese boy, Sam and Ellie carry on their quest to ensure balance is maintained.

What I loved about this book, is I felt that Sam and Ellie take a bit of a back seat, letting Ashton's character really shine through. This is his book, the prime minister's plan to save the world a mainstay of the novel. Is he the eternal good guy, wanting the give the world a fresh start, or does he have an agenda? You'll just have to read it and find out.

You will not be disappointed though, as the book maintains a fast pace, with some breathtaking set pieces.

I cannot wait to step into the next instalment of the Trusted Series.

Five stars all day long.

This was another exciting book that was provided to me by the author in return for a fair and honest review.

This book is a continuation of the story that has been building over the last three books and apparently culminating in a fifth book (this was book four of five).

The story continues with the effect that Sam and Ellie are having as hybrid member of a race of near-gods from an alternate dimension, charging with maintaining the balance between the light and the dark.

The majority of this story deals with the actions of British Prime Minister Richard Ashton, as he he attempts to form a global coalition known as Freedom Earth - a group of countries unified in the elimination of terrorism, the unification and cooperation of religious practice, and the promotion of a new energy source (quantum energy). It is through these efforts that the story is fleshed out as the negotiations between Ashton and religious leaders along with attempts by nefarious parties to prevent the widespread promotion of quantum energy that form the bulk of the story.

On a scale of five stars, this continuing story easily rates a solid four stars.

As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.

Sam and Ellie have finally beat the terrorist, but Sam wants revenge. And then there is his previous boss, Prime Minister Ashton, who seems to know just how to play to Sam's feelings. Now it also seems that Ellie is having a hard time staying "rationale" to some of his request. What is going on? How is it possible that everything is in perfect balance? And who is the "Chosen One"? What role does he play? This ride just keeps getting better and heading towards an amazing conclusion! I can't wait for book 5.
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Xiao is a typical teenager with rich parents who give in to his every whim. When Xiao collapses on an aeroplane, he is taken to hospital where the doctors try to stabilise him. His parents, Chen and Lei are worried but when Xiao comes to and screams at his father, saying he can see his evil and darkness, his mum Lei becomes convinced there is a dark force that has taken over her sons body.

PM Richard Ashton wants world peace and isn’t afraid to make examples of anyone who goes against him. Ellie and Sam Noor agree to help the PM but Ellie is still unsure of Ashton and can’t help but wonder if he is up to no good, in spite of her powers showing her he is good.

This series goes from strength to strength. Just when you think you know where everything is leading, you soon find out you actually have no idea at all! The characters are well thought out and well written. This is a complex but thoroughly enjoyable series, action packed from start to finish. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. This book deserves more than 5 stars and I highly recommend it, I would say you do need to start from book 1, The Trusted as they do need reading in order.

I find this series mildly entertaining. The series took a turn for the worst as far as I am concerned when the author had the protagonist turn into a Kudazam 9 spelling?) human hybrid that is the Earth's Protector and " shimmers" between worlds. It is just a little too out there for me. I was enjoying the action and intrigue before the other world stuff happened.
