Run an entire school for magic. No pressure, right?Wrong. It’s all pressure. Nothing but pressure. The rest of my Coven got to go home and relax. All I want to do after the last few months is to sit on my couch, eat a whole box of cookies, and binge watch mindless feel-good movies. But apparently that is not on my to-do list.To top it all off…it’s Christmas season. In Manhattan. And I get to host the Yule Ball for all of Eden. Every witch and shifter in the world has been invited...to show off our new School of Magical Arts. Now I just have to make sure we're ready for the world. But right...no pressure. NBD.

Noah reminds me a little of Easton, they'd get along. I didn't realize how much Emersyn was nervous around Tenn. I know it was mentioned often in season 2 that the other coven members kinda feared him.

Em and deacon are the dream team. This second novella in the SOMA series is absolutely perfect. We get to see how the couples work and the challenges that they face outside of the coven. I loved the focus on the school and on how Em and deacon watch their relationship grow. In the secret witch, we get to see the Yule ball. In uptown witch we get to see all the behind the scenes that we wished we could see. The characters are completely encompassing and you'll never tire or reading about the coven and their adventures. Chandelle write pure magic and you'll be begging for the next book as soon as you finish this. That ending... Perfect! I adore the coven so much. Em and deacon have to be my favourite couple, they just work perfectly. Fantastic novella and bring on the empire witch!

I do have to say every book in the series so far really needs some major editing. There were a lot of grammar and spelling errors. That being said I really love this series. I oopsed and read Bettina's books first. It wasn't too confusing but made a lot more sense after reading Tegan's books. Even with editing issues, it didn't take away from the story lines. I really wish Emerson's books were a little longer though. This is a must series to read!!!

This book was given to me as a gift. This was another amazing book by Chandelle. Glad to see Deacon & Emerson's relationship progress. I loved the addition of new shifter characters. I am sure we will see more of them later on in the series. Warning there is a cliffhanger at the ending. Some of you hate that. The addition of jealousy from multiple couples was fantastic. I won't read & tell. Emerson really worked herself into quite the panic over getting everything perfect for Tennessee. Loved the dress details. Really enjoyed the scene about trying to convince Tennessee that he needed to wear a tux. Can't wait for the next!

Worth the read

I love this series and can’t wait for the next book!!! It’s best to start at the beginning if you want to know what is going on. I never can put the books down once I start.

This is a great fun read that had me laughing out loud in places! I just adore Emersyn and Deacon and how their relationship is developing and growing, the school or SOMA is doing well and the Yule ball is approaching! A fab read from start to finish!

I wait with anticipation for any book that has references the Coven as they are one thing and that’s never Dull. There is always more action around every corner and each member has earned my favouritism through the and support for justice in protecting the magical world and human alike from the destruction from War Lords, Demons & Anything or body that poses a threat. So when the last big battle was thwarted & hidden family ties are revealed they all deserve a break right!
Yeah except for Emersyn & Deacon our Empress & Devil card members as they have a magical school to open, the first of the boss man’s forward thinking visions. No pressure Right!! I don’t know who I felt more sorry for Emm or Deacon as Emersyn’s favourite word isn’t delegate. It was good to re-connect with Amelia Deacons younger cousin & see how she has grown, seeing how Much of an impression Emerysn made from her last visit to New York left on Deacons family brings a lump to the throat. Deacon loves her more for it but even soul mates can have insecurities especially when a blast from Emerysn’s past makes a sudden appearance. Then there is the problems with the intergration of The Shifter’s and the infamous Yule Tide Ball to hold..just when you think everything has ended we are left with a shocking cliffhanger involving two young girls who are ill prepared to be left struggling in a dangerous world alone.. I always find anything Chandelle LaVaun has written to always be addicting, warming and frightening at the same time, I can’t wait for her next novel which I hope won’t be to long.

Lovely to visit with the crew of the coven when things are relatively quiet and they are not harried by someone immediately trying to destroy them or their world. The book focuses on Emersyn and Deacon as they work together to get ready for Tennesse and Tegan to inspect their new School of Magic and to plan and host the magical Yule Ball. Emersyn gets very dithery as she stresses over her tasks, but one of the core themes of the book is the growth in her relationship with Deacon as their trust and intimacy evolves - very special and romantic.

Lots of new students are introduced, particularly an interesting new group of Shifters that should provide complex characters for the next series of stories by this author. As always, it is wonderful to revisit characters from previous series. Final Rating: 4.5 Stars

Deacon and Emersyn get snuggly

I've found it useful to think of LaVaun's books as a serial, rather than being self contained novels. There isn't much conflict in this story. It's more about lining things up for the next book.

Emersyn is feeling the pressure of being in charge of starting the NY school, but there's really much for her to worry about except shifter/arcana relations and Emersyn doesn't have very much to do with that. There are no demons in this book.

We do have new shifter characters introduced, including Emersyn's ex boyfriend. Emersyn and Deacon solidify their relationship. Carolyn and Noah get to do stuff.

Who shows up with whom at the Yule Ball is interesting. I was a little disappointed more info about that wasn't given.

WOW OH WOW

I really LOVE this series but I really, really hate novella 's. They have no substance and I just can't get into them. I want a big book that I can escape the real world and lose myself in the fantasy. The other books in the Coven series gives me that. The reason I have the part four stars is because it's too short for me. I love the series and I can hardly wait until the next book comes out, I hate paying the price for so few pages but I will because I can't stand to miss one minute of this series.
It's so exciting and romantic but not in a smutty nasty way. It makes me wish that this world 🌎 was real and I could be lucky enough to be a part of it, What a scary rush that would be.

I say this all the time but Chandelle is one of my favorite authors. This books follows our Empress and the Devil as they head back to New York to check on the new school. What I really enjoyed about this book was the character growth between D and Em. I love their love and watching them constantly back each other up. Em strong personality is shone more than once and she is definitely not to be played with. My only critique is that I wish there was some sort of really big conflict and resolution. But the cliffhanger leaves so much room for one in the next book. Which I am looking forward to reading, because I know stuff is about to hit the fan.

This book was given to me as an ARC for my honest opini

Received this as an ARC. I love these novellas as a supplement to the main series. I love that all these characters have their own personalities and voices. It surprised me how much I think like Emersyn. I always enjoyed reading from Tegan or even Bettinas point of view but Emersyns occasionally anxious thoughts are refreshing. Nobodies perfect! But I love seeing her power through it!

As always, the dialogue between them all always makes me LOL! I don’t want to spoil it so You just have to read it to fully enjoy it.

In Uptown Witch we get to focus on my girl Em. I just love this girl, she really speaks to me on so many levels. Her relationship with Deacon, the school and someone from her past life all come up in this book. You get to see just how strong she really is, even when she doesn't quite believe it herself. And Deacon's parents? Man oh man, I love the new version of them so much. I so much want to hangout with them now. And the group texts? Priceless.
Another amazing story from Chandelle LaVaun that you need to read.

Amazing

My absolute favourite of Emersyns books, I’ve never been her biggest fan I don’t know why just think there’s so many female characters in this series and she just didn’t rate up there for me. This book changed that, I really liked her interactions with everyone from group text with her fellow coven members to her interactions with the adults around her she really showed me what she’s made of and although she may not be as loud and out there as some of the other character I found her a great person in this book and found myself really rooting for her.

I really enjoyed all the previous series and liked this opportunity to get to know Emerson more as her sister has taken more of the attention in the previous books.

She and her soulmate have decided to go slower with their relationship than her sister and Tennessee. This book really shows their bond growing. There are some fun and exciting surprises along the way.

I like all the interactions with the other characters as well. They have become old friends at this point.

I am looking forward to the next book.

Ok but not the best

I really do love this series but this book lacked polish and the storyline was a bit lightweight. The attempt to describe a very wealthy nyc lifestyle was ok but crashed for me when a character, supposedly very well to do, ordered Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. And the truly elegant never use the word “classy.” It just isn’t done.
In addition, in several places the grammar is bad, needs editing.
Worth reading for continuity though, and perfectly pleasant for the most part.

Storyline moved forward

The story line was progressed but nothing major happened in this book. Emerson and deacon Grow closer. Tennessee comes to visit the school. The yull ball is a success. Ends in another cliffhanger. I'm a little disappointed that you have to read a different series to know the answer to the cliffhanger of the previous book. A series should flow. I had already read Bettina's story though so already knew what happened. It's just makes this series disjointed. No battles in this book.

More of a 3.5 but I liked it more than I didn't

I hate cliffhangers, so a little deduction there. Also, I've come to expect a climactic action sequence or mystical journey but that was missing. I know the previous release abounded in that so this is likely a transition to the next big thing, but still. But I did read it in one sitting so obviously it was good. Bring on the next chapter in the series.

SOMA is coming together

I love these little glimpses into our Devil and Empress. Em and Deacon's bond is growing. She is fitting in nicely and inspiring change in those closest to Deacon. Already stressing over the school Emersyn has a shock as someone from her past turns up at SOMA. Some one she thought was very human.

Jealousy and a bit of a cliff hanger.

Can't wait for more from this series

Amazing, as always.

I love these novellas from Emersyn and Deacon's perspective. Seeing their love bloom throughout these stories makes my heart happy. The growth of all the characters is wonderful. The Yule ball has definitely set the stage perfectly for the next novella and upcoming third season. Yet another amazing work of art from our dear Chandelle. Thank you for bringing us into your magical world. I can't wait to see what you have planned for us!

Okay but will read the next one

Last year I loved every one of the books in the series. It was my go to book. However this book for me fell short of the writing of the previous books.

I loved that it was the same characters in the series. Enjoyed that the book had no major situations. I liked how it ended.

My favorite thing about this book is how it showed a different side of the coven. Also expanded the world a little. I am interested in the new characters.

The lower rating for this book is due mostly to this being a mostly set-up book.
There was nothing wrong with this book. There is a little bit of action at the end. There is not much mystery either. Basically they introduced some new characters and fleshed out some characters we didn't really know well. However, the end of the book did set up the conflict in the series going forward. Now that we know the direction of the series I expect a far tighter plot and developed conflict.

I love the characters in the coven series and enjoy everything written about them. Emersyn and Deacon are so cute but Tegan and Tenn will always be my faves. However I would love to read novellas about all the coven members as would love to read their POV on things and get to know the other cards or the adult cards better. Can't wait to read the next book.

Wow a fantastic read. This read grabbed my attention from beginning to the end. The story building is fantastic, as well as the Character building. The scenes are written so well I felt like I was there in person living vicariously through the character. I definitely recommend this read.

So much have been said after so many titles of this incredible serie. This one opens a new story, this time focusing on Emersyn and Deacon, their relationship, and the new directions of the coven. It’s such a funny and enchanting journey gripping the reader from beginning till the end. Looking forward to the next title.
