MUST LOVE ALLIGATORS by Erin Nicholas
Must Love Alligators by Erin Nicholas is a not-to-be missed trip to Autre in the Louisiana bayou. Fans of the Boys of the Bayou series have the chance to catch up with Ellie and Leo and the gang, while new readers get to dip their toes in the warm and welcoming bayou waters, which yes, do contain alligators among other delights!

Chase Dawson and Bailey Wilcox met in passing in Autre. In Sweet Home Louisiana and Beauty and the Bayou, Chase's sister Juliet hauls Chase to Autre to atone for the damage he wreaked on an ill-advised air boat incident. The Landrys being the "crazy, loud, over-the-top" family they are, immediately adopt fish-out-of-water Chase--yacht and all--and though he heads back to med school, his heart's in Autre. In more ways than one. Though he's thousands of miles away, he can't get Bailey out of his mind.

Bailey works for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and hey, she knows when something's fishy. When she's called out to Boys of the Bayou to follow up on a guest's concern about rabid otters, she knows perfectly well that the otters are fine. But she couldn't pass up a perfectly good opportunity to potentially catch a glimpse of Chase. As a scientist, she knows full well that her reaction to him is irrational, but for some reason, she can't stop thinking about him.

Must Love Alligators is everything you want in a holiday novella--flirty fun with family and food and other...festivities ;) Full of heart and joy and sweet heat, Erin Nicholas's story about two smart people who get a little stupid around each other is a five-star read! Short in length but not in content, characters, or charm, Must Love Alligators is a Christmas must-read!

This extended version of Must Love Alligators gives us more of Bailey and Chase (and the Landrys and Autre) to love--the added scenes give us a richer picture of their connection, or missed connections, as the case may be. And any extra time with Ms Nicholas's characters and settings is a pleasure to be savored, slowly. Absolutely worth every word!

Must Love Alligators is part of the Boys of the Bayou series by Erin Nicholas, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone story. I have not read any other books in the series, yet I was sucked into this one.

I quickly fell for the characters and found the story to be filled with the best kind of humour. It wasn’t over the top, it was just enough to keep me grinning throughout. Add in the fact I adored the side characters, and I’m super curious about this series.

Without a doubt, Must Love Alligators has left me wanting to read the rest of the Boys of the Bayou series.

I have read this whole series and just love it. I met Chase when he and his snobby buddies wrecked the Landry’s deck and he and his sister Juliet came to Fox the deck themselves. His sister is now with one of the Landry men and Chase is part of the family. He left for Virginia to medical school after meeting Bailey. I was glad to see that he didn’t forget her. I loved how the two always had some kind of accident when they tried to kiss. The two just fit together. They both love the Landry family just like I do. I was given a copy of this book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Awe! Enjoyed this cute and hilariously awkward novella for Chase & Bailey. It’s great to get to know Chase more (he is Juliet’s brother that was introduced in Beauty & the Bayou) and see him paired with the slightly reserved but desperate to belong Bailey.

I love that Nicholas turned the cocky and self-sure Chase into a somewhat tongue tied and bumbling pursuer. Bailey is so sweet and bumps heads (literally!) with Chase on numerous occasions.

They get an equally sweet and humorous epilogue. A quick & fun read.

This one was just ok for me. I didn't ever really warm up to Chase, Bailey was just there, together they were a walking disaster. I'm glad that Bailey found her place in the Bayou she loves, glad that Chase wants to be a small town doctor, but also glad to be done reading this one.

The Delight
Short, hot Christmas story on the bayou with the extended Landry family is what you get with this novella. Bayou time, good food, crazy Cajuns, and people who know your heart.

Review
Must Love Alligators brings back everyone's favorite Wildlife Conservation Officer, Bailey. But she isn't back to write up warnings or find wild animals the Landry family is hiding. No, she is back to see if you can meet up with Chase, the young man who has been "adopted" into the bayou and who she had a an awkward sexy moment with. He's only seen her in her work clothes which do little flatter her figure, but in a dress, she wants to see if the chemistry in the past can translate into more, but alligators are her passion and she wants to do everything to protect them.

Chase was a stupid fraternity brother who got drunk, stole a boat, and lost control of the boat causing it to crash into the Boys of the Bayou dock. His older sister, Juliet, whom we saw in Beauty and the Bayou, won't let him just pay for it and become an asshole like her older two brothers. Spending those two weeks on the bayou gave Chase a family he didn't know he needed and a work ethic he grew to appreciate.

During his time on the bayou, he found himself drawn to Bailey, which led to a very awkward non-kiss and groping. Back on the bayou on Christmas break from medical school, he is pressed into distracting Bailey from the Landry clan wrangling baby otters on the loose. Ellie and Leo send the two out to the cabin on the bayou to decorate for a fictional party and the two find they do know how to kiss.

This is a short romance with an epilogue that made my heartache. These two have a lifetime ahead with some of the craziest people in the bayou and I can't wait to see them again.

As far as novellas go, Must Love Alligators is pretty good. It manages to pack a lot of punch in a little bit of story. But, like many romantic novellas, the flaw in this story is its brevity. The story feels totally rushed with Chase and Bailey falling (literally) into each other's arms, declaring love, and proposing marriage in a very short amount of time. There isn't enough time given to really developing a deep relationship, so I always felt like we weren't getting much of a story. I remembered a little bit about Chase and Bailey from earlier books in this series, so we aren't starting from scratch here, but there isn't much setup. We get thrown into this relationship almost from the beginning. There are a couple of deeper conversations to set up some back story, but it isn't enough to develop the sort of relationship you need to make a romance pop. I liked Chase. I liked Bailey. I felt like I could have liked them A LOT more with a longer story and a more nuanced relationship beginning. I HATED the clumsiness angle played in their relationship. It got old pretty fast. One or two times tripping into each other would have been fine, but every time they meet/touch? A little much. By the way ... this is a Christmas story. There is some Christmas stuff in it ... not enough to really qualify as a holiday romance, but enough to have it as a minor theme of the story. The narration on this story was pretty good. Despite the good narration, I wonder if I might have appreciated this more if I had read it. Maybe the speed of the story that was apparent in an audio format might not have felt so rushed if I was the one reading it. Who knows? I'll give this three stars. I liked it well enough.

Must Love Alligators by Erin Nicholas is a small town nerd heroine romantic comedy that I listened to on audio narrated by Michael Gallagher and Bridget Bordeaux.

This is the fifth book in the Boys of the Bayou series and can be read as a standalone. However, I would highly recommend reading them in order since the stories are interconnected.

I absolutely love this series! Erin does an amazing job pulling me into the storyline. I had a smile on my face through the entire book. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Chase and Bailey.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Four Weddings and a Swamp Boat Tour to be released on audio on May 20, 2021 so I can get Mitch and Paige's story.

Michael and Bridget did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you love small town romances, romantic comedies, or contemporary romance.

Must Love Alligators is a fun, cute and flirty novella involving Chase, a medical student who was seen in a previous book when he and his frat brothers stole and crashed a Boys of the Bayou airboat, and Bailey, a wildlife scientist studying alligators and other wildlife on the bayou.

Chase and Bailey are kind of an opposites attract love story with a side of hot mess express (in a funny way), but they are super cute too. I had some laughs listening to the book as they navigated trying to move their relationship to the next level. I always enjoy my time with these characters on the bayou and cannot wait for more. I highly enjoy this author's writing style and have loved characters and the bayou and all of the Landry's!

Must Love Alligators
A Small Town Nerd Heroine Rom Com (Boys of the Bayou, Book 5)
By: Erin Nicholas
Narrated by: Michael Gallagher, Bridget Bordeaux

You can not help but to fall in love with the “Boys of the Bayou” and yes the woman of the Bayou are pretty amazing too. Erin Nicholas is a gifted author with a way with words, I enjoy her writing style, her humor as well as the characters and storylines she creates. This book is Chase Dawson and Bailey Wilcox’s story, Chase became an honorary Bayou boy when he came down to rebuild the dock he crashed into, though he spent more time hanging with the Landrys instead, he and Mitch became good friends and kept in touch. He had met Bailey, who is a Wildlife Conservation Officer, before leaving for Med school, not his usual girl type but after their awkward encounters he could not get her out of his mind, he was even hoping to see her again when he visited for the holidays. Chase left a lasting impression on Bailey as well, she even made extra visits in hopes of running into him. The Landrys have to run around around every time she comes to cover up and hide their antics and crazy ways with animal and other wildlife. This time they recruit Chase to help distract her while they do some relocating. I loved how everything played out in this book, it is an entertaining and enjoyable story that can be enjoyed any time of the year. Erin Nicholas, thank you for making me smile with this wonderfully delightful story. The Boys of Bayou never disappoint, shenanigans and laughs are a guarantee.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Michael Gallagher and Bridget Bordeaux are talented narrators and voice artists. They did a great job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. Michael Gallagher’s Chase was spot on, as was Bridget Bordeaux’s Bailey. I loved how they took each role and made it their own sounding believable and just as I picture them to sound. They were great performing the roles of all the secondary characters too. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧

Must Love Alligators was originally in the Holiday Ever After anthology in a shortened form, but this is the expanded and better than ever edition. I got the anthology specifically for this novella and I like the expanded version even better!

Erin Nicholas does sweet and funny so well and this book is full of both! From the otters, yes otters, to the hilarious hijinks of keeping Bailey from knowing about said otters, the Landry family just steals hearts including mine. I’ve read every book of this series and loved them all. And seriously, I’ve been wanting Chase and Bailey’s story ever since they were introduced.

With Erin’s super cute brand of humor, this book starts with a good laugh and continues along in high spirited fashion. The backstory of Chase and Bailey's failed kiss adds a lot with plenty of laughter and adorable awkwardness. I love how they interact, both so cute and awkward and passionate. And lots of damage - the kind that makes you laugh because it just underlines the craziness and specialness that is these books and these characters. It’s so reminiscent of Juliet. I couldn’t help smiling and laughing because getting to S E X in this book is an adventure all its own.

A last resort distraction to keep Bailey away is a bag of Christmas decorations that take you on a virtual tour of bayou traditions. I thought that was super cute and awesome. Bayou traditions and cultural stories are important and the Christmas ornaments tell stories of their own.

But the ending was just so spot on and laugh out loud funny and so Bailey and Chase! I loved it! 4.5 stars because it's a great extended version and it just works so well and made me laugh and just feel happy.

Warm, sexy, and funny but short
4 stars overall, 4 stars story, 4 stars narration

I enjoyed this short, 3.5-hour audiobook. It is not quite perfect, but it is a worthwhile addition to this fabulous rom-com series. I loved spending more time with the wise and fun-loving Landry family. Chase Dawson is a great hero, and it was nice seeing how much he matured since he first met the Landry family earlier in the series. His lady, Baily Wilcox, is likable and intelligent. I also appreciate the continued minor theme of environmental conservation of the Louisiana bayou and its wildlife.

The novella is told from first person perspective alternating between the two main characters, Chase and Baily, but Chase had more chapters than Baily. There is brief but strong steaminess. The dual narration was excellent. The male narrator, Michael Gallagher, perfectly captured Chase and the rest of the characters. The female narrator, Bridget Bordeaux, was pretty good at interpreting the story, but she didn’t get Baily’s Minnesota accent right at all; it sounded like she was from California.

Three things slightly bothered me. First, I wish this book was longer, and it seemed like the author could have added a few chapters in the middle. Second, the female narrator did not get one of the accents correct, but she was pretty good at the others. Finally, the clumsiness of the two main characters when they are near each other seemed excessive after a while. By the end, it seemed too cliché and stupid. Over time these two characters should have learned how not to be that accident-prone. Still, I am glad that I listened to it. I recommend this audiobook if you find it at price that seems reasonable for 3.5 hours of entertainment.

I requested and received a free audiobook copy via #AudiobookObsession, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I love taking a trip to the bayou!

This series is awesome and educational. Yes, I just said that...lol
I have learned a lot of interesting facts about alligators, otters, the cuisine and drinks, as well as life in the bayou.
This story is about Bailey, a game warden and Owen, the young man that smashed one of the Boys of the Bayou’s airboats, that him and his college buddies stole for a joyride, into a dock. Owen has been taken in by this lovable group of Landry’s since he and his sister returned to rebuild the damaged dock in the previous book about Sawyer. Owen took a liking to the bayou and the residents. He’s visiting again and spots Bailey sitting at the bar reviewing papers. He’s not sure why he is attracted to her but he is. She is a girl from Minnesota who loves alligators and this is why she lives in Louisiana now.
I loved how these two can’t seem to get a single kiss in without something happening. They are from opposite sides of the track, so to speak, but they are perfect for each other. The chemistry, their talks and passion about what they do made me love them. The scene at the airport was written perfectly for them. Love this Bayou series and I don’t want it to end.
Highly recommend reading this series as well as the others by this author. I’m a fan forever!!

Must Love Alligators by Erin Nicholas
Boys of The Bayou Book 5

Chase Dawson and Bailey Wilcox get reacquainted in this book.

Juliet Dawson brings Chase back to Autry to atone for his errors and you would have thought he would have been ostracized by the Landry’s but instead he learned so much from them. He found friendship with the boisterous friends and families in The Boys Of The Bayou. That’s where he first meets Bailey a girl so not his ‘type’ yet he can’t get her out of his mind.

And Bailey gets a little bit flustered around Chase too and looks for him every time she’s back in Autry.

Neither cook and both like Ghost In The Machine IPA this got my interest right away ! Kindred spirits ☺️ It’s cute how they dance around one another and how they liked one another, thought of one another from their first introduction back months ago in Autry. I love how they stumbled into love with one another. Always a laughing good time with any Erin Nicholas book!

Erin says it best in this book with,
“These people were addictive...nuts but addictive; fun, irreverent, goofy, clearly loving! She wanted all of that!”

I was really involved with the narration which tailored to both Bailey and Chase’s characters so much it really flowed and pulled me into the book. Awesome book again from Erin Nicholas and fantastic narration as well.

5 Stars … Must Love Alligators (Boys of the Bayou 5) is a small town romantic comedy told in the dual third-person point of view of Chase and Bailey.

Six months after their almost kiss, Chase and Bailey are both back in the bayou for Christmas hoping to catch a glimpse of each other even though they know that they are not compatible. While trying to wrangle up the otters and keep them hidden from Bailey, The Landry’s convince Chase to keep Bailey occupied.

Chase and Bailey's story is full of fun, family, holiday spirit, and a calamity of errors. This was a good way to catch up with everyone in Autre, if you are a fan of Boys of the Bayou, or get an introduction into the fun and crazy world of Autre, Louisiana and the Landry's. I loved the extended edition as it gave more of Chase and Bailey's connection, which is always great.

Audio … Michael Gallagher and Bridget Bordeaux did a great job with bringing the story and their respective characters to life.

I listened to the ALC of this book.
Chase Dawson first appeared in the Boys of the Bayou book 2 when he and his friends were banned from the swamp boat tours due to being drunk. He then decided to get revenge by stealing an air boat from them but then realised he didn’t know how to drive one putting him and his friends in danger , Owen and Maddie saved them but the dock was ruined die to the boat crashing. Chase and his sister Juliet made an offer where he came and built the dock to pay them back for causing the damage and that’s where he was adopted into the Landry family and Ellie and Leo taught him how it was to be in a family like the Landrys. When Chase first sees Bailey Wilcox he doesn’t understand his feelings as she’s not his type but he can’t deny the feelings and approaches her to save her from someone she doesn’t seem to want anything to do with . When she tries to kiss Chase things don’t go as planned it’s like a comedy sketch where things snowball and you can’t help but giggle at the outcome , this turns out to be a common occurrence in their relationship. Loved listening to this and seeing how Chase has grown and realises his life before the Landrys really had no meaning and there’s more to life than his shallow friends and getting drunk every night .

Audiobook Review:

So much fun! That was the first thing I thought when I finished listening to this book. It was so much fun. Bailey and Chase may be ridiculously accident prone together, but it just added to their charm. They were just such an adorable couple. The story itself was really well written. I liked that even though it was on the shorter side, you really get to see the way the couple’s relationship was fleshed out. They spent time really talking and getting to know each other. Their relationship wasn’t purely based on the physical (the physical actually got them into scrapes and injuries more often than not) and I just felt their connection through the story.

What also helped me to feel that connection was the fantastic narration by Michael Gallagher and Bridget Bordeaux. Michael had a great accent for all the southern characters and Bridget had a great upbeat tone for this high energy leading lady. Overall I just thought it was a really good performance from them both and only enhanced the story for me.

Every one of these books I read I fall in love with this Bayou world and this author’s words even more. This book was a great example of why and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

Chase and Bailey were everything I was hoping they would be! We met Chase earlier in the series - he and his buddies ruined a dock and his big sister was going to make sure he was hands-on to fix it. After all, she didn't want him turning out like her dad and older brothers. What Chase got from the Landry's was more than dock building lessons, but how to be a part of this big crazy family. He freely admits he was a jerk before and is grateful to be a part of the Landry clan - especially since they helped him decide what he wants to do when he finishes med school.
Enter Bailey - that adorable, nerdy scientist who has a passion for all things alligator. Chase ran into her a handful of times before he had to go to school and he can't get her out of his mind. When they run into each other again (a bit of a set up - thanks Mitch) can they see past their obvious differences and see where the attraction goes? Hopefully without doing any major damage to either of them... I loved how un-smooth they both were around each other. This is a fun, flirty read! You'll want to read the whole series but this can also be a standalone.

I absolutely adore Bailey! In fact, she may be my favorite character of the whole crazy Boys of the Bayou bunch. And Chase is darling! It's great to see that Juliet's plan worked and he is turning out pretty good afterall. The two of them finally getting together is just delightful!

I was rather annoyed by the myriad of times it was mentioned that these two were not each others' usual type. (Okay, we get it already!) And the telling of their story was a bit disjointed. (Which was likely due to the fact that it started out as a short entry in the Holiday Ever After anthology, and was later expanded with a prequel scene and an epilogue.)

But overall it was a quick, fun, hot, romantic, enjoyable, holiday read! I definitely recommend this book and the entire series for anyone looking for a good ol' romance down on the Louisiana bayou!

I received a free eBook copy of this title from the author, and have willingly provided an honest review.

I absolutely love any visit to Autre and the people that live there. Visiting at Christmas was an added bonus. Must Love Alligators was an absolute delight. Such a fun, and sweet romantic comedy.
A visit to Autre is not complete without a visit with the Landry family and their extended loved ones.
Both Bailey and Chase were introduced in earlier books, Bailey as a conservationist, and Chase as part of a drunken bunch of frat boys who crashed into the Boys of The Bayou dock. Along with his sister, he worked hard to repair the damage that he caused. They are both, at heart great people who have ended up as a part of the Landry family’s circle. Together they are an accident waiting to happen but such a fun, sweet accident.
The narration by Michael Gallagher and Bridget Bordeaux fitted the story perfectly. Both managed to represent the characters wonderfully and I got a real sense of the undeniably sweet romance, coupled with the frustration and wariness due to how accident prone their relationship seems to be.
This was a quick listen that was a total delight and I loved every minute.

So much happens in these few chapters of humor and love. Chase and Bailey seem to be two people who should stay far away from each other. Every time they try to connect, someone gets hurt. Not seriously but enough that a simple kiss turns into bruises. I loved how they still couldn't stay away from each other. I also love how they fit with the Laundry family. So not that you have to read the rest of the series to get this but the Laundry family does everything big and over the top which usually backfires somehow. From keeping Bailey away from escaping baby otters to glass ornaments being dislodged in places where they shouldn't be, Chase definitely claims his place as an unofficial family memeber. There are laugh out loud moments along with moments I wanted to hug Bailey and smack Chase (just for being too much of a guy). Erin Nicholas has created these towns that I want to move to and become friends with all these people. And every time one comes to an end, I sigh a little and pray that she will open those doors again in the future.

Bailey is a Wildlife Officer who first met the Landry family when she was sent to investigate the rumors that they were housing otters as pets. While there she is welcomed by the family so when she finds herself alone for Christmas she decides to head to Autre with the hopes that Chase will be there as well.

Chase begrudgingly made his trip to Autre to help repair the Landry’s dock when he took one of their boats for a ride without authorization. Once there it turned into one of the best experiences of his life as not only was he embraced by the town, but he met Bailey as well. Although their first encounter was a comedy of errors there is nothing he would like more than to see her again.

Bailey and Chase are so adorable as every time they are together it leaves you waiting to see what mayhem will ensue. The tone and cadence of the narrators are exactly how you picture the characters, and they make this sweet and sexy story even better.

This is book 5 in the Boys or the Bayou series by Erin Nicholas. A short listen but as with all the books in this series thus far, full of sweet romance and southern charm. Lots of cute laughs and some steam too - this book has just the perfect balance of it all. While it may help to read / listen to the other books in the series as these characters are introduced in precious reads, it's not necessary. However, be warned that once you listen to one - these southern bayou boys will charm you so that your addicted to them and won't be able to get enough. This is the story of Chase Dawson and Bailey Wilcox who seem so accident prone but somehow can't stop thinking of each other. An audacious family and community you'll wish to be a part of!

Must Love Alligators
Boys of the Bayou Book 5
by Erin Nicholas
Narrated by Michael Gallagher & Bridget Bordeaux

I remember when Chase came to the bayou with Juliet and I am so glad his heart is still there! Bailey has been in his thoughts ever since he met her,and now coming to the bayou for Christmas, he is hoping he sees her. Bailey comes when called in for a rabid otter sighting. Will she catch her glimpse of the man that has been on her mind? This is the perfect Christmas story, bringing all the Landry's together and letting us get to know Bailey and Chase better. Their love story is fun, flirty and has that Erin Nicholas humor that keeps me smiling throughout her books.

Narrated by Michael Gallagher and Brigdet Bourdeaux, the Bayou comes alive. I love these two. They fall into their characters and bring out their personalities perfectly. It's a pleasure to listen to them!
