728/20 re-read for book three...

I love Autumn Jones Lake and her Lost Kings MC series, which I have read, re-read, and been obsessed with for years. I have also enjoyed the spin-off books she has done too. I've been hesitant to try this one as I thought it was a serial and I find those frustrating; however, I found out out this was a trilogy (much like a lot of her MC series, which have a few couples trilogies within it) and I decided to pull the trigger. The blush has come off the rose for me big time when it comes to the trilogy trend, but as I said, I love this author and her trilogies, so she's an exception for me.
I really enjoyed this. An up-and-coming rockstar romance with a little bit of the AJL MC life we love sprinkled in. It focuses on a couple you meet a little bit in the Lost Kings MC series and basically acts as a prequel scenario for how they met and fell in love. I also love that it's set in the late 1980's...because I love me some 80's/90's pop culture like you wouldn't believe.
I think fans of her MC series will definitely enjoy this...I only wish I had realized book three wasn't out until July. Oh well...

Re-reading because I was in the mood for some sweet 80’s themed, rocker love story. Plus, I enjoy the reminder of pre-cell phone/social media relationships when we actually had to WAIT to hear back from someone.
Still a solid 4.5 stars, with that ‘Rock of Ages’ musical, feel from it.

I love Autumn Jones Lake writing style and I appreciate her ‘notes from the author’ in every book. In this one she says,
“I decided to let Chaser be himself. He is my favorite kind of romance hero - a romantic alpha male with a filthy mouth, heart of gold, and deep respect for the woman who takes his wild heart.”
This is MY favorite kind of book hero too! How does she manage write alpha men that are incredibly alpha, but not a**holes?! And her leading ladies are strong, and sensitive without being pushovers or wimps.
Chaser is a rock star/musician, biker and alpha sweetheart all rolled into one. Mallory is a sheltered mafia princess on the run from her family. She is naive but knows her worth. This book takes place in 1989, when hair bands and music videos were the rage. Back when MTV actually had music videos on all the time. Chaser and Mallory meet on the set of his first music video.
The best thing about Lake’s stories are that she doesn’t follow the same old plot lines and eye-rolling drama that books from this genre usually have. Here there is no cheating, no drama for drama’s sake, no obligatory breakup or lame misunderstanding that could be solved with one conversation!!! It’s two adults, working things out, knowing there will be differences but TALKING ABOUT THEM. How utterly refreshing. It’s like she writes romance for actual adults.
* Really wish AJL would change the cover of this book. That is no 22-year-old man.

ALERT: Autumn Jones Lake has written an honest to goodness standalone romance book. This is not a drill. This is a unicorn event that will not last for long because, trilogy!! lolololol I know, I know, three books but listen, it could be fifteen soooooo …. take the win and #oneclick so you can introduce yourself to one of the best authors I know. She is super talented with this craft. Her stories are never quick, they are layered and written with purpose. She sucks you into the world she creates, and it leaves an imprint. You will think of her characters long after you finish reading their journey!

OMG yes!!! AJL has combined two of my favorite kinds of books (rockstar and biker) and rolled them all into one sweet and stormy start to a new trilogy.
Chaser is everything you want in a hero...sexy, dangerous (when he needs to be) and a passionate but gentle lover. Mallory is a stronger-than-she-looks virginal heroine, with a dangerous secret and a life that is spinning out of control until she falls for and trusts her biker/guitarist boyfriend to keep her safe. There are good guys, bad guys, good girls and bad girls aplenty here, but I trust this author to take care of our poor reader hearts in the end.
I love these two together and how they form a united front to ward off all the obstacles coming their way. There is so much emotion, steam, deception and strong family storylines in this book, and I can't wait for the rest of the trilogy so see how it all plays out.

Ok but I am seriously in love with this book.
So I'm not going to lie, I expected to like the book, but I didn't expect to like it this much- it was genuinely so much fun, and I'm no joke IN LOVE with these characters and their love for each other (Rain if you're reading this, your recommendations for books are just 😩🤌🤌- thanks for introducing me to this gem).
But yeah, this was just a great book. This story probably had some of the best communication in a story that I've read in a while and I AM ALL FOR IT- you genuinely don't understand the pure joy I felt because of the fact that the characters actually talked to one another.
I also loved the writing of the book, I really liked how blunt and straight to the point it was- although I will say I was a bit iffy with it at the beginning just because of how different it was from a lot of what I've read before- but it definitely grew on me.
I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between the characters, and the setting of the book, and how realistic it felt in relation to both their careers and time frame- it was a lot of fun. I'm actually really excited to see where the story goes.

I am in full on happy mode!!!
The start of this book was originally sent out in chapters through Autumn's newsletter which I loved getting through but when I heard there was a full version coming out?...*scream!!!!!
We have met both of the main characters through different Loki MC books but this takes us back to the very start when Chaser is an up and coming Rockstar and Mallory is trying to make it as an actress, both from different parts of New York but meet in Hollywood....
It was fun, it was sexy, it was intriguing, it was so damn hot! It was an excellent start to the Trilogy that I am so freaking excited about!!
Autumn you have yet again nailed it!! I don't know what else to say 🤷🏻♀️...I loved it!! So much!!!

Another beautifully written book 📚 by Autumn !! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for Mallory and Chaser. There are some twisted characters in this book that I’d love to see killed off to be honest. Autumn never disappoints this couple is as special as Rock and Hope as well as the rest of the couples she’s written ❤️

YES! Finally a book where there isn't any lack of communication resulting in an endless array of DRAMA! Chaser and Mallory are #relationshipgoals!!! Autumn Jones Lake, you made my heart happy!!!
About Kickstart My Heart:
Kickstart My Heart is the first book in the Kickstart Trilogy by Autumn Jones Lake. I think it's safe to assume, this trilogy will be focused around the crazy world of Mallory and Chaser. And I honestly can't wait for more!
Chaser Adams is living life the way he is meant to live, with a guitar in his hand and the respect from his band. But having lived the way of the outlaw nearly his whole life, he's looking for something more than what the lifestyle can give him.
Mallory finds her freedom within the walls of a courtroom. After her father's verdict comes in Mallory decides to leave her New York home and finally go live her dreams. She heads to California to live her dreams and try to make it in the world of acting.

My Thoughts:
I've read so many rockstar romances, Motorcycle Club Romances, and Mafia Romances in my life. But not once have I read a romance that combines all three. Autumn Jones Lake managed to take all my favorites and put them in one story!
Chaser is not only a kickass musician but he's also son to the notorious MC President, Stump. His life will always lead back to the MC, but for now, he's living his life with a guitar in his hand and lyrics in his mind. I loved how vicious this man can be when faced with protecting the ones he loves. When needed, he is always there no questions asked.
Mallory was a sweetheart. I loved her innocence throughout this whole novel. I loved the many different levels of difficulty this character had to push through to get to the place she wants to be. Mallory wants to be an actress, but not for the reasons you think. She doesn't want the notoriety or the star appeal. She craves the ability to make people happy by watching her on the television, the same way she and her mother felt when watching movies while her mother was sick. She wants to give back. But being a woman in the 1980's trying to break out in the acting business isn't as easy as what you may think.
I also really enjoyed the secondary character and the role they all played in this novel.
Overall, Kickstart My Heart was a great way to start the Kickstart Trilogy! I am anticipating and needing more from these characters and this series! I can't wait to get the next novel in my hands!!

The first time I read one of Autumn’s was book several years go. Her books are an automatic one click for me. Doesn’t matter what it is, I read it, I love it, I read it again several more times. Kisckstart My Heart is no exception!!! I absolutely LOVE Mallory and Chaser!!! (If you’ve read The Lost King’s MC, they both make appearances in several books.)
One thing that makes this trilogy unique, is it’s a biker/rockstar and Hollywood actress/Mafia Princess all in one! I’ve never read anything like it.
Chaser is dreamy and swoon worthy! They way he is with Mallory will make your ovaries explode!! He’s giving Rock a run for his money in competition for my new favorite book boyfriend 😉

Mallory is a young 20 year old woman who finds herself needing to escape her current situation that involves her Russian Mafia family. She decides to run off to Hollywood and fulfill her dreams of being an actress and living a life of freedom.
After a short time in L.A. she quickly finds out just how rough and cruel the Hollywood life can be. But things take a turn when she meets the broody rising rockstar Chaser Adams along with his band Kickstart.
Chaser is an a-hole to most people, a trait he probably learned from growing up in the Devil Demons MC, but when he meets Mallory there are instant fireworks which has him smitten. Chaser's an alpha through and through, but Mallory brings out a softer, sweeter version of him and when it comes to her he's what I like to call, gentlemanish.
As Chaser gets to know Mallory he realizes she's more then just a temporary infatuation, she's his perfect match. They have more in common then he could have imagined, even their families dynamics are similar. But can their bond sustain the tribulations of Hollywood, family issues and enemies. Relationships in Hollywood are seemingly impossible, but they're determined to make it work. Their love as well as friendships and loyalties will be tested.
I absolutely loved this book. It takes place in the late 80's and being an 80's baby makes it so much fun to read. We're talking pay phones, cassettes, VHS, MTV, Headbangers Ball, and CRAZY amounts of hair spray! No cell phones, no GPS, no iPods, no social media!! It's a blast from the past which Autumn nails, especially the Hollywood scene in the 80's and what it was like for upcoming musicians and actors/actresses. And there's even a special appearance from one of our favorites of the Lost Kings MC.
Chaser is giving my boo Rock a run for his money as my #1. I can't wait to see what's in store for Chaser and Mallory.

Upgraded to 5 stars after re-read. Why tf I gave it 4 stars? I was stupid 3 years ago, for sure 🤣. This is my favourite book of all AJL books! It’s just dunno but this read is bit more safer than her usual books. So, I enjoy it whatever mood I’m in.
This book became something special to me when I saw everything took place in 1989. That magical year when I was born.
I am big fan of this authors books. She can write MC books like no other. She's the fairy godmother of MC books. This Triology is a bit different than her usual MC books. We have Chaser who is next in line for Prez and on his way to making it in Hollywood with his band. Then we have Mallory who's mafia princess on the run who wants to make it as an actor in Hollywood. It's insta-love but bear with me, it's so well done that it didn't bother me one iota.
As Mallory is naive and in some ways very sheltered, Chaser is absolutely super nice guy for her and does everything to protect her from this harsh industry. There are so many insane things what blew my mind away. Especially considering Hollywood. I have to say excellent research!
I absolutely enjoyed this book and whole end of 80's vibe of hairspray - I mean like A LOT of hairspray and crazy color clashes.

This book became something special to me when I saw everything took place in 1989. That magical year when I was born.
I am big fan of this authors books. She can write MC books like no other. She's the fairy godmother of MC books. This Triology is a bit different than her usual MC books. We have Chaser who is next in line for Prez and on his way to making it in Hollywood with his band. Then we have Mallory who's mafia princess on the run who wants to make it as an actor in Hollywood. It's insta-love but bear with me, it's so well done that it didn't bother me one iota.
As Mallory is naive and in some ways very sheltered, Chaser is absolutely super nice guy for her and does everything to protect her from this harsh industry. There are so many insane things what blew my mind away. Especially considering Hollywood. I have to say excellent research!
I absolutely enjoyed this book and whole end of 80's vibe of hairspray - I mean like A LOT of hairspray and crazy color clashes.

To say I yelled,"NOoooooo!!!" when I finished should be an indication of how much I loved this book!! Luckily there are two more to come!! This book had so much more than I was expecting, and I was very pleasantly surprised! Mallory and Chaser are so awesome together!! The sex is hot, he can't think of anyone but Mallory (no matter how many groupies throw themselves at him) but that doesn't mean that it's all a bed of roses for either one of them. I definitely recommend this book because you don't need to read any of the books in the series about the Lost Kings, but if you have, this book is a perfect compliment to them. So be set to take a trip back, when "Hair Bands" were EVERYTHING (they still are to me!!) and phones were attached to the walls and every cool kid had a Walkman. (If you don't know what that is, now you have the luxury of googling it.) Enjoy!!

Perfect way to start of a new series! This book brings a few of my favorite genres all into one MC, Mafia and Rockstar and the fact that it’s set in past time (the 80s) only added a extra uniqueness to the story. Mallory is escaping her past and trying to make her dreams come true when she meets Chaser and they’re instantly attracted to each other and they wave the ride of the storms between both there dreams. I adored Mallory she might seem meek and naive but her past has made her more then equipped to handle things but I loved Chaser and his brooding alpha attitude when she was involved

Chaser may have been raised in the MC, but music is in his blood. Not only is he a successful Rockstar but he has found a family in his bandmates. He thought he was on top of the world but when he meets Mallory he knows that she is what he didn’t know he was missing.
Although it wasn’t under the best of circumstances Mallory has found freedom from her family and the lifestyle they were leading. She wants to be an actress but that is proving more difficult than she thought but when she meets Chaser he makes all the challenges she faces worthwhile.
These two are perfect together as she manages to combine sweet and sassy to perfection while Chase’s need to protect her is enough to make you swoon. They definitely have their obstacles, but I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this couple.

Guys, I'm officially saying that Autumn Jones Lakes books are my happy place. Every book never fails to draw me in, has me falling in love (or in hate) with these characters and the world she created and leave me craving more.
Chaser and Mallory have become my new favorite couple. These two just ooze chemistry, danger, and fun. While I'm rarely a fan of insta-love, but it works here because from the beginning we get fully fleshed out characters from the first few pages. We get to know both Mallory and Chaser's motivation and desires from the beginning so it only feels right when these two get together.
Kickstart also has one of my new favorite tropes, "us against the world." There is nothing more that I love to read about then a couple of fighitng and working together through all the 'ish the world is thrown at them. Both and Chaser and Mallory have always had their lives planned out for them, but they want to live life on their own terms. Chaser wants to be a rockstar and Mallory wants to be an actress, but in 80s Hollywood, these dreams often require a compromise of values and a willingness to use/abuse others to get ahead. As these two try to blaze a trail of their own, they will soon learn that the world they live in wants nothing more to bring them down.

HOLY HELL WHERE HAVE I BEEN?! The brilliant Autumn Jones Lake took two of my favorite tropes of MC/Rock Star, and rolled them into one amazing story. Chaser is a biker trying to make it as a rock star, and Mallory is trying to make it as an actress, who also hides a huge, dangerous secret. They're from two different parts in NY, and yet, when in Hollywood, they finally cross paths, which I call fate. I have to say that I'm not going to get into this story too deeply, as I just don't want to since I can't adequately type up the journey that AJL just took me on. It would be rude & inappropriate to try since spoilers could seep through. I will tell you this, I was captivated from the jump, and never moved until every last page was devoured, and now I'm dying inside for more, since this is going to be a trilogy. There was heat in spades, all the intrigue, and even an edge of my seat sort of experience since secrets don't make friends, and Mallory has a doozie. So get on the ground floor of what I absolutely believe will be EPIC journey by hitting you one click button on Kickstart My Heart! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Kickstart My Heart did exactly that, it had my heart pounding and my pulse racing. A story that is a perfect combination of biker and rocker to satisfy my every fantasy. Mallory and Chaser take us on a tour of innocence, experience, attraction and devotion. These two will steal your heart as they battle all that stands in their way displaying a united front. This first part of the trilogy draws you in with passion, steam, underhandedness, family, intrigue and love. Chaser and Mallory will leave you wanting, needing and demanding more.

We have to say we are loving this new series so far.Wow ! Chaser he is already a favorite of ours and we loved him from the moment we met him.Chaser was one of those characters that is just a all around good guy as he has the looks and just enough bad boy in him to attract the ladies but, he was also a gentle giant most of the time but, one thing is for sure is don't piss him off as you will regret it as he has a fiery temper to match.We loved how he seemed balance both the rocker world and the biker world just fine and even with the two having some things in common he didn't like a lot of crazy that came with rising fame.
Mallory was one of those characters that I can say seem perfect for Chaser in all ways but, for me she was just a character that I couldn't really warm up to and I think that her nativity was just to much for me.I get she was a sheltered child and all that and I loved she was so innocent in a lot of ways because we loved that both Mallory and Chaser were experiencing a lot of her firsts together and we loved seeing the excitement in Mallory's eyes every time she experienced something new.What we didn't like though is how she didn't think before she acted and was so trusting especially coming from the world she came from not only that she picked a career that will make you our break you in no time at all.With all the choices she made I just felt she never thought of her safety first.Mallory's running from her mob family and she chose to be in the limelight as actress ?Shouldn't she be laying low even for a little while? The whole time I was waiting for her to be raped or picked up and sold as a sex slave because she was that innocent and too trusting! Moving on....
Overall I enjoyed the story and loved Mallory and Chaser as a couple because Mallory is going to need a man like Chaser when push comes to shove at her side and not only can Chaser handle himself he has a army of men that have his back but, I also love that Chaser is going to be the man to save her in the now with all her rash decisions.These two characters had some major chemistry and they were hot as he** together.They made a cute couple.As far as Chaser band mates we only really like one of them and rest were douches which made things a whole lot of interesting.

Kickstart my Heart is book 1 in the Kickstart Trilogy, a new standalone series by Autumn Jones Lake. Having been a super fan of her Lost King series I knew I would be able to put this book down once I started.
Chaser is living out his dream he is called back to his destiny, when he meets Mallory, he knows she is the one. Running from her past Mallory finds a whole new world thanks to Chaser and her first and only love. Can they survive their Rockstar and Hollywood lifestyle’s?
I personally really enjoyed this story, having read a few chapters before I knew Chaser and Mallory’s story would keep my emotions running high. I am really looking forward to the next 2 books to find out how their story ends.

Talk about an interesting take on a book series. Not only is it a blast from the past in which it takes place in the 80s, but the characters are really interesting and the steam is off the freaking charts! When you have a mafia princess turned actress and a MC member turned rockstar, you are guaranteed to have an intriguing story. Let's just say that Chaser stole my heart and I cannot wait to see where the trilogy goes from here!
All in all if you like to escape to a different decade where the hair bands ruled and like hot and suspenseful stories, you will definitely enjoy this book - 4.5 outta 5 stars from me! I can't wait for the next one!

It will be one of my top reads of this year. Chaser and Mallory story put a smile on my face and has all the feels to complete their story. I am so ready for their story to continue. This author's words flow like a river smooth and perfect....you must read this book.

Read books in series order as it's one story, I originally read this as the books came out but I enjoyed it much more on a reread, I read the trilogy as 1 book.
Music band story with links to MC series.
The Hero's dad is president on an MC, the Hero is expected to take his place there one day but for now is pursuing his dream of his music career.
The couple do visit his family throughout the series and there are a few references to MC activity and as the book is based much earlier than the Lost Kings series, it reveals small pieces of information about the history of the Lost Kings, Rock is a teenage lad and appears in book 3.
I really dislike the cover, in fact I almost didn't read it.
Hero is previous man-whore. There are comments made about club girls and groupies for the band.
Although he is a gonna as soon as he meets the heroine, there is no interest elsewhere for him, his band mates are constantly still indulging, so lots of references to their activities.
Heroine is a virgin due to her protective family situation, at the start it is revealed her dad is being sentenced to a prison term for involvement in the mob.
He had plans for the heroine to go to her uncle for safety who she knows will marry her off to a man within the business.
There is small other man drama regarding him.
Other woman drama, several offers, throughout the series and other man drama, especially basically anyone who employed her or even interviewed her.
I got a bit fed up of how naive she is and how every man wanted her.
I think the author was using a scenario of an innocent protected background let loose on the world of Hollywood to show the depravity and loose morals but it got a bit old.
They fall for each other pretty quickly with full on 'i love you's', their issue is more trying to make their relationship work.
No cheating.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine but before the heroine officially meets the Hero she kisses his fellow band member as part of a video shoot for their song.
She feels there is no chemistry to the kiss but the Hero is in the audience and watches it.
Lots of humour.
Drug references.
Dual POV.
Cliffhanger ending.

I’ll be honest that in the beginning I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this story. The whole insta-lust/love is a tough trope for me. But, I’ll say Chaser, our H, is actually pretty amazing.
