Overjoyed at his transfer to Hathaway House, Heath Jorgenson is anxious to maximize his potential and to get better from the multiple injuries that sidelined him. But rest is necessary for recovery, and Heath’s body won’t give him any. Even when he buckles under and accepts the need for drugs, his body rejects them. And all the determination in the world won’t matter when your own body is working against you.

Just when he’s about to give up, respite comes from the unlikeliest of sources. The sound of the cleaning lady slowly and methodically washing the hall floor outside his room lulls him to sleep and allows him to see some of the progress he’s desperate for.

Hailee Cisco is grateful for the part-time job of washing floors at Hathaway House. Sure, it isn’t glamorous, but it’s honest work, and, along with her other job, it’s enough to pay the bills — of which Hailee has many. When Dani, the heart of and the partial owner of Hathaway House, offers Hailee a full-time job, Hailee is delighted at the chance to cut back to just one job.

Until she realizes that her change in hours has an unintended impact on Heath’s sleep patterns…

Welcome to Hathaway House. Rehab Center. Safe Haven. Second chance at life and love.

Another military vet with life changing injuries is healed and finds love at Hathaway house. I really love these stories, I think that this is book eleven in the series but they are all different and all standalone.
Hathaway house is a rehabilitation centre for seriously injured military personnel, it is run by part owner Dani Hathaway, the staff are all hand picked and wonderful. Running alongside the centre is a veterinary clinic that takes in all manner of waifs and strays, these animals are incorporated into the treatments of the patients and they all get plenty of cuddles.
Heath Jorgensen was critically injured when the truck that he was driving, whilst on a mission, went over an IED and was blown up, Heath's two best friends were both killed and he blamed himself. Heath's injuries included losing part of his leg and PTSD resulting in chronic insomnia.
Hailee Cisco is a longstanding accountant friend of Dani and is doing two cleaning jobs to help pay off her son's medical bills. Hailee's son died and as her husband had walked out she was struggling to pay off her debts.
Hailee and Heath had a slow burning friendship, at first I thought that the way his insomnia was cured was a bit far fetched but it was all explained in a believable way later in the story.
Obviously, as it was Hathaway house romance blossoms.
I love the way that the patients at the rehab centre are treated in a very holistic way, Dale Mayer looks deeply into the psychological aspects as well as the medical aspects of these traumatised military personnel.
This is a lovely gentle story with heartfelt meaning and I can fully recommend it.

Heath Jorgenson comes to Hathaway House to continue his healing. He is originally from the Houston area so the Texas heat is something he is used to. He needs a connection as he has no family left and he lost two of his best friends to an IED blast. He knows loss and he knows survivor's guilt and it's that guilt along with nightmares from the fateful day that lead him to insomnia. He wakes at around 2 a.m. most nights and can't go back to sleep. He can't take sleeping pill because they cause other issues and just when he is about to give up he hears the gentle swish of the mop and the footsteps of a methodical cleaning woman.

Hailee Cisco works two jobs and her night job is that of the cleaning woman who at first unknowingly is Heath's salvation. Hailee has seen her fair share of heartache and she to lives with guilt. She is offered a promotion to a full time job but not as a cleaning lady. When she realizes that she is the key to Heath's sleeping problem she vows to do what is necessary to help. And maybe just maybe she and Heath can heal because they share a connection, that of grief and guilt.

I enjoyed this story. It was a bit different from the other stories in that Hailee and Heath didn't exactly meet face to face at first, they met face to face after she was promoted to a full time job. Their relationship started out as a friendship and very slowly developed into something way more. They had an instant connection and they understood each other like no one else could. It was a sweet story of two wounded souls who found a way to move and and move towards a better future. I love this series and very much enjoy reading about the different animals as well as the people. I hope that one day Shane and Dennis get stories as well.

The patients at Hathaway House have many different injuries they are healing from both mental and physical. The setting here is tranquil even as the therapy both psychiatric and physical can be brutal. It's the balance, the staff and the animals, that make this center unique and very effective.

Heath had been a patient at the VA, he's hit a lull in his progress and after researching found Hathaway House. He truly feels he will benefit from the treatments there.

Hailee is not a patient but part of Hathaway House's cleaning staff. It's one of her two jobs. She is suffering in her own way, both financially and mentally. It's her way of mopping the floors that gives Heath some peace so he can sleep although she doesn't realize that.

The interaction between her and Heath starts and stops almost at the same time. They have never been able to really see each other and when Hailee takes the position of accountant at Hathaway House her mopping and brief talks stop rather abruptly.

Heath hasn't been sleeping since the cleaning person stopped mopping outside his door in the middle of the night, he doesn't know what happened to her but the two days she said she was off became so many more.

Now these two do have more interactions but at meal times and they start talking to each other and meet up periodically. They just sort of click, but Heath has no idea Hailee was the cleaning person.

Lots of interesting things happen in this book not the least of which involves a Bobcat and a regular cat. I love that the Vet Clinic is downstairs from the rehab. Both the people and the animals benefit so much from these interactions.

An inspiring tale with a start to a relationship that is slow and healing for both Heath and Hailee.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Heath Jorgenson is thrilled at getting a transfer to Hathaway House and is anxious to fix the multiple injuries that sidelined him. Rest is important for recovery but his body is not willing and when he tried drugs his body rejects them. The conclusion is that his determination is worth little when his body is not cooperating. Then he gets respite from the strangest of sources - the sound of the hall floor being mopped each night. Hailee Cisco is grateful for the part-time job washing floors at Hathaway House. When Dani offers her a full-time job she is delighted to just have the one job. Then she realises that it is having an effect on Heath's sleeping pattern.

I really enjoyed this story which had lots about grief, coping with it, finding a way to move on when you are ready as well as how to build a firm foundation for friendship. I loved that they were definitely friends way before they had any interest in each other romantically. Easy to read and get swept away into their stories and the events happening around them. Will definitely make you smile at the end when the relationship you were so hoping for becomes real.

This book, along with all the others in this series is so enlightening. I love these books. They are about veterans and how they struggle to get through all their post traumatic stress and injuries. I love that each one spotlights just one vet and gets into detail about how the vet is struggling through their injuries and how they work so hard to deal with the everyday occurrence of the effects of those injuries and PTSD. These books seem so real and seem to have such realistic problems that I have to think that Dale does her homework before writing the series. It is so sad to think that this is happening around us all the time yet how many people think about these veterans. These books have opened my eyes and have made me look for more and more information regarding those who serve our country and suffer from protecting us and our freedom!

Heath by Dale Mayer
Hathaway House Series Book Eight
Heath Hankerson has been accepted to continue his healing at Hathaway House. He's not making much progress though. It doesn't help when you carry a load of guilt around. Even worse, when you can't get a decent night's sleep because of the nightmares from that guilt. And then, something amazing happens...for a short time. Maybe he was better off without it since it's worse with it gone.

Heidi Cisco has found solace for her hurting heart working at Hathaway House. For now, just being a night shift housekeeper gives her peace. Mopping the hallways in the early hours of the morning. Trying to clean her life like she cleans the building.

I loved how this story is told. The hero and heroine aren't sure who the other is for a while. I enjoy this series. It's about a place of hope for those who have been wounded in war. A healing place for both body and soul.

Every story in Hathaway House is regarding our wounded heroes. Each one is different in its own way and tugs all the heart strings and makes you think. The guilt for coming home when friends don't, how do you actually get around that? Dale also shows how civilians can have their own guilt, their own injuries, be it emotional and does smoothly enough that your carried along, and feeling for the wounded hero( Heath in this one) and the civilian (Hailee). Hathaway house is a rehabilitation center, privately own and each member of the caring team are awesome, they all deserve their own story in addition to our heroes. Pick up Hathaway house, enjoy a moving read and know that no matter what, all is right in your world. Thank you for the arc! I voluntarily leave this review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Heath is tormented every night due to the inability to sleep a whole night. Hailee is tormented by the loss of someone precious in her life and is struggling to hold up under the financial burden left behind. When both of them land at Hathaway House, they find a way to help each other find peace in the most unexpected ways. When Hailee is promoted to a new job that inadvertently takes her away from helping Heath, she still cannot get him out of her mind. I was so delighted with the way these two found their HEA. It was sweet, emotional and one of those books you cannot put down until you finish it. Cannot wait until the next in the series.

Another heartwarming story between two people who reside at Hathaway House. Heath, who was injured and now lives with survivors guilt and Heidi, the nighttime cleaning woman who lives with her own form of heartbreak. Heidi inadvertently helps Heath at nights when he sleeps and when she is removed from the job to something she is better suited for, Heath’s troubles resume. The two meet but don’t know who the other is and when Heath’s recovery is affected by the missing cleaning woman...all must band to find a solution.
Another great sweet read between two people who have had their share of hurt and heartbreak find one another in a place that is all about healing and moving forward.

Good but

While I understand why Hathaway House needs to be described in each stand-alone book in this series, I feel it goes a bit too far. Hathaway House is wonderful and Dani is wonderful. But a little less praise for the House and a little more about the budding relationship between the principle characters. There is a lot of inspiration and encouragement but, for a romantic novel, there is not much romance. I’ve read a few of the books in the series and they were pretty much all about the Hathaway House and how great everything is with a bit of a relationship between the “romantic couple” thrown in as if it was an obligation rather than the focus.

I will probably not read another in this series as they are too repetitive.

Heath is a vet trying to move forward but has to face his past, survival guilt in order to move forward.
Heidi also facing personal loss of losing her son and her marriage work together to move forward.
Heath can not sleep and find relief in the mopping at 2am when the cleaner comes. Heath does not know that the cleaner is Heidi who changes job. When Heidi clicks that Heath needs the moping she put herself out and see results in Heath straightaway. But Heidi can not keep it up. With help from Dani and Shane they work together to find a solution.
Together Heath and Heidi learn to forgive, move forward and is a lovely moving love story.

Heath is veteran injured by an IUD that killed his two best friends. He has PTSD and survivor's guilt from the accident. Heidi lost her only child to a birth defect and her husband divorced her. She now has insane medical bills. This is a heartwarming story of finding a connection with someone else after a tragedy has occurred in life. It's about forgiving yourself for events beyond your control. Finding a way to accept what is and releasing guilt for what was. It is a story of finding love and acceptance through all that has happened. Beautifully written. I volunteered to read this through Booksprout.

Another heart warming story in this series. Injured persons sent home from battle need a decent place like this to recover. Missing body parts they have a long journey ahead of them. Heath's battle scars are also emotional, guilt causes nightmares and tense muscles impeding his recovery. Hailee has emotional wounds of her own, the loss of a child and enormous medical debts to pay. I really enjoyed these two characters and their love story.
This story stands alone, the rest of the series will give you more of an insight into the other characters and how the place was formed.

Good story about Hathaway House

I enjoy Hathaway House and the characters that call it home. I love the idea of what they do there, the help and encouragement for veterans. The relationship between Heath and Hailed was very slow to develop; too slow for me, and the end came quick without any hint as to a happy future, just that they wanted to be together. The epilogue sets up the next story in the series, which is nice, but I was looking for whete Heath and Hailed are in a year or so.

I loved Hailee and Heath not just because they both came to Hathaway House to heal in different ways but for very heartbreaking reasons. These 2 are soo perfect for each other without realising it and then they slowly wind into each others lives and that leads to enlightenment, positive decisions and some happily ever after!

I loved how unselfish Hailee was, so concerned she went way beyond to help. both characters have suffered so much it is easy to love them and want the best that life can bring. Heart warming story of pain and grief that is easy to read and tugs at the heart. I adore this series, its special and uplifting despite the struggles the characters are dealing with and reaches deep within me to inspire. I look forward to more.

A heartwarming series for sure. Ridden with guilt, Heath found an unlikely respite in Hathaway House. Hailee was also healing from her own brand of trauma, and found some light in Hathaway House. The unlikely relationship found the way and healed the wounded hearts. A cool and blissful read to accompany the day away.

I was provided a complimentary copy by the author / publisher through Booksprout, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

Heath goes to Hathaway House with the hope that they can help in his recovery from his horrific injuries. He cannot sleep which is causing problems with his progress. Heidi has her own problems but finds solace with Heath.

How their relationship develops is written with great skill and empathy to make this a wonderful book and one I thoroughly enjoyed.

What I like about this series is the interaction between the vet clinic/therapy animals intergrated into Hathaway House.

The stories are the same but with different variations for each character. The staff work to get these patients to their best ability with their physical and mental challenges. The characters need more depth to be a true romance.
