Doctor Daniel Brennan has never recovered after his younger brother’s suicide and has always vowed he will never mate an omega because of it. Even though he would have liked his own family, at forty-seven, he accepts he is probably too old and throws himself into his career as an obstetrician.
Remy always thought his life had ended the day he was officially classed as an omega. Between the bullying, the loneliness, and the fact he thinks he isn’t pretty enough, slim enough, or clever enough to attract an alpha—even if he wanted one—pretty much sealed his fate. The only bright light on his horizon is his new job at the omega clinic.
A lonely omega and an alpha who doesn’t realize how much he wants his own family are forced together when the unthinkable happens, and Remy—who doesn’t even know he is pregnant—goes into labor.
Delivering Remy’s baby might be easy for Daniel. Delivering a Christmas miracle might be something else altogether.
Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.
She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.
And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.
This was unexpected. Well, the fact that I read it is the first surprise. I'm not a fan of mpreg but it was happenchance that I had the book and if I'm totally honest, I'm trying to expose myself to more men having babies because I feel like I'm really missing out on one of my favorite author's new series. So, I'm slipping out of my comfort zone. And this was WAY out!
So, we have our unmated omega Remy and our unmated alpha Daniel. Daniel is helping out a friend and working temporarily at the labor and delivery omega clinic. I loved the idea of the omega hospital. This comforting place where omegas can go and seek treatment without judgment and prejudice is also a safe haven for Remy. He would love to work his way up the ladder and is embarrassed that he's only an aid. But those around him can see how hardworking he is and his loyal and genuine heart can't be missed. I enjoyed Remy from the beginning. I hated that he was a victim of not only bullying but as we soon discover, rape too. Shy and quiet, he needs to find his confidence and quite frankly, just needs the universe to give him a break. Then a stranger/new neighbor steps in and rescues him. And I knew Daniel was going to fight for Remy. In this world, unbound omegas can't keep their babies. Uhh, okay. That's horrifying. I didn't quite understand or care for that 'rule'. And this is when I realized, 'wait just a second, aren't these shifters?!?' Daniel is an alpha and apparently has the alpha "commanding voice" and "heightened smell". But, are they wolves? Do they shift? Or are these just...men? AND that's what was hard for me. Because here's the thing: I adore demanding alphas...when they are half beast. But if you take away the creature and leave the alpha traits in a man, I'm not a fan. Suddenly the overbearing becomes abusive. And that fine line felt broken here.
Did I enjoy Remy and Daniel? Yes! Was I thrilled Remy found his place and kept his son? Yes! Will I read more from this conflicting alternate world? No, probably not. But...I might try another mpreg. So there's that. Ha!
Well... I gave it two stars because I do like the author's writing. As for the story...
Oblivious, misguided, moronic alpha. Unknowingly pregnant omega. Horrible laws. Non-con/rape/forced while drugged and a family member unaliving themself off page, while neither was mentioned in any CW inside of the book or the blurb. Lots of waffling on both the alpha and omega side. And a batshit crazy baby daddy.
Well, I think I just found a new favorite character to add to my list of omegas and subs. Although this book is not a sub thing. It’s all alphas and omegas and Remy just bombarded his way in to being one of my favorites. Bless his heart, he’s just had such a rough time and life, but I love that boy because he keeps going. Everyone just loves him because of his kindness and always willing to lend a smile. And he has no clue how much he’s adored. But Remy has a very low self-esteem. And because of it, he keeps looking in the mirror thinking he’s just fat and that’s why no one likes him. He’s constantly bullied by assholes that live in his building, he lost his father and best friend due to illness, and he’s just about as low as can be. But he keeps trying. But after being beaten one day, he goes to work thinking he’s just hurt and hurt bad. But it’s more than that. He’s about to have a baby and he’s now in panic overload. Because he now knows for sure what he didn’t want to believe. And that was how he got pregnant. His doctor, Daniel, sees something in Remy that’s calling to him, but after an incident in his past, he refuses to mate or marry. But time is running out for Remy and his baby because of the lack of omega rights and if Daniel doesn’t step in, Remy and the baby both may be lost to him forever. But how can he let go and move on? Remy is one of my new favorites because no matter how hard he is on himself, he keeps getting back up and fighting. That’s why I love omegas as well. They are the ones that have to put up with all the shit and yet they keep fighting and keep pushing forward, no matter what. Sometimes it gets too much for some, and it’s understandable. But Remy keeps trying. Even after the baby is born and he’s determined not to have anything to do with him, Remy can’t help but keep trying. To keep loving, to keep being kind. His heart may break and he may go through hell and back, but he’s still that sweet, adorable man that everyone just loves. He’s perfect in his own way. I understood where Daniel was coming from, especially after hearing his story. But what I love about Daniel, is that even with the crazy vow he made, he still went into medicine and is still trying to do all he can to fight for omegas and do all he can to help people who are in trouble. It’s a hard situation for both Remy and Daniel, but fate is determined to get through to both of them and make them pull their heads out of their butts and do what’s right. I love this story. Remy just made this book. It’s a hard story to read for what he’s been through and what he fighting, but the outcome is what makes everything worth it.
I am utterly disappointed with this book. The bulk of the story like 99% had nothing to do with the romance and everything to do with the should I or shouldn’t I see my baby attitude of the omega. Which didn’t make sense when the world laws prohibit single omegas from retaining custody of their kids. I suppose I can understand for the first little bit of the story because of health concerns, but after that? It simply adds pain to a story that didn’t have the support for it.
Daniel’s reason for not wanting to take a mate makes less than no sense. My omega brother kill’s himself so I’ll never have a mate? I can see several years of survivors guilt and then dedication to omega advocacy or something, but not taking a mate because his idiot parents made his teen brother feel like he was worthless is beyond confounding. Also, the few hand holding episodes and a few days of kindness does not a love story make. Let alone provide the foundation for declarations of that love. Good grief, there’s only one or two kisses in this book, let alone anything else. How does that in any way scream “I love you, be mine forever”?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
While I usually love this author, this story just really fell short. I couldn’t tell you how many times in one paragraph the main character said he wasn’t thin enough or pretty enough. The characters just seemed to completely lack substance and there was a barely there a storyline.
I enjoyed the story overall, and was really invested in Remy's predicament, but the ending felt very rushed. The entire story takes place over a couple of days, and things happened very quickly so I was a little disappointed by the actual romance, but the epilogue was very sweet. I haven't read any of the other stories, but I'm assuming some of the secondary characters have been/will be written about.
I love a good short story and I also love a good novella. Shorter books are perfect when I want to read a book I know I can finish in one sitting; but well written ones aren't always easy to find.
The "His First" series books are, so far, all novella length stories and I have loved every one of them. The stories have sometimes ripped my heart out and then put it back together but every tear I've shed has been worth it for the HEA I always get from Victoria Sue.
The story started out strong and never let up. Remy is an omega with very low self-confidence as evidenced by the first paragraph of the story:
"Remy stared at himself in the mirror. Stared at the too fat, too stupid, too ugly guy looking back at him who didn’t seem to get any thinner, cleverer, or prettier no matter how hard he tried."
I knew then that whatever the story was going to be about it was going to have my feelings all over the place – and it did – in the best way.
When Remy is attacked by a group of bullies he is saved by Daniel, an alpha doctor who, as it turns out, is starting his first day at the clinic where Remy works. When Remy falls ill later in the day of the attack Daniel rushes to help him. Remy has no idea that he is pregnant and about to give birth.
As an unmated omega Remy has very little rights and will lose his baby if not mated right away. Daniel has said he would never mate an omega because of something awful that happened in his past. I never could have guessed what it was and was very surprised when the details were revealed that it had to do with his brother's suicide.
Daniel has to get his head out of his a$$ if he wants to help Remy.
This is an age-gap story that doesn't beat you over the head about the age difference.
I enjoyed this story very much. The story flowed easily and the characters are very well formed. I wanted to punch Justin in the throat, very hard...several times As far as Daniel and Remy are concerned , I loved them both from the moment they were introduced. Their chemistry is off the charts..even if it takes Daniel a little while to get his feelings out of his mouth. So many great side characters, it truly was a dream to read. I highly recommend this book.
Another emotional book in this series. Be sure to grab tissue. Remey does not like his image of himself. He has been so bullied about his size and weight that he didn't even know that he was pregnant. Then to go into labor and be an unmated omega which will result in you having to give up your baby. And yes, it gets even more intense. He has lots of struggles to deal with withOUT getting attached to his baby. This is a very heart felt story and series. I love it that Daniel can't help but to scoop in and give Remy the love and support he needs.
These characters were boring but the story was sweet I guess. I was bored throughout the entire story and I was just waiting for it to end. Cute HEA though.
This was a heart-warming holiday story. Remy will tug your heartstrings hard and have you rooting for him to finally have some love and happiness in his life! Can Daniel be the one to bring him some security and love? If you like Omega stories, you will enjoy this book!!
Victoria Sue always delivers sweet romance stories with a little angst (but not too much). His First Noel is no exception. Both main characters are so lovable but each has issues they must overcome to be together. This is the second book I have read in the His First series. I look forward to reading the rest.
This is a lovely seasonal addition to the series, introducing new characters and keeping in touch with known ones. It’s a short (2hour) read that packs in a lot of detail. Remy and Daniel don’t spend hours, weeks, months getting to know one another, but this is the Omegaverse and when it’s meant to be, well that’s all you need. There’s a bit of heartbreak a lot of joy. A healthy dose of Karma and a lovely HEA.
I really enjoyed Victoria's first two books in this series, His First Christmas and His First Family, and recommend that you read them before this one as several characters show up in this book. Victoria really tugged on my heart for Remy. Life is just not fair for his hopes and dreams as omega's have no rights. He just wants a good job, a life with family and home, and someone to love him and he just keeps getting kicked around. Enter Dr. Daniel who stops Remy from getting hurt and well, I'm not going to spoil the book. There are a lot of surprises in this book, and Remy does get his hea but it was painful getting there. It looks like this is the last of the series but I am hopeful for maybe a glimpse into their future at some time.
Alpha Obsetritian Daniel Brennan never recovered after his younger brother's suicide and has always vowed he will never mate an omega because of it and at forty-seven he accepts he is probably too old for a family and so throws himself into his career. Remy thought his life had ended the day he was classified as an omega and between the bullying and loneliness he thinks he is not pretty or clever enough to attract an alpha. The only bright light on his horizon is his new job at the omega clinic. A lonely omega and an alpha who doesn’t realise how much he wants his own family is forced together when the unthinkable happens, and Remy - who doesn’t even know he is pregnant -goes into labour. Delivering Remy’s baby might be easy for Daniel. Delivering a Christmas miracle might be something else altogether.
Wow - prepare for tears during this story as it will pull at your heartstrings. Poor Remy, who had serious self-esteem issues, had a really bad set of circumstances thrown at him but then later in the story, he realised that he had worth and didn't have to settle for second best. Daniel was quite clueless and I was so glad that his peers and colleagues were able to give him some home truths. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and set in the omegaverse with mpreg.
Have hankies available when you read this story. Remy, had major self esteem issues. He was also bullied by a few of the men in his apartment complex. On his first day starting a new job, he was beat up and punched in the stomach. He was rescued by fellow resident, Daniel who happened to be starting his first day in a new job at the same hospital. Remy took ill in front of Dr Daniel and ended up going into labor. Remy did not know he was pregnant, he just thought he was fat. The story of Remy's pregnancy, delivery and the decisions about the baby were very sad. Daniel, steps up and tries to help Remy but there are social political requirements and constraints that muct be carefully navigated. Does Remy find his baby daddy? How much can Daniel help? Does Remy want his baby? Can he keep his baby? Good story. Intense theme. Not a nice world for omegas. The ending is a bit abrupt and rushed. Nicely done.
Great story, but way to short. - As a person who normally won't even open a book that's less than three hundred pages long you may want to temper my review with that fact in mind.
The characters are good but I feel like they might be improved by having more of their respective backstories expanded as a method of getting to know them better in a more organic way, rather than just a quick cover teaser to get your interest piqued to read the book. Of course when you only have one hundred to one hundred fifty pages to fit all the pertinent data into then I guess the 'speed-dating' bio is understandable.
The rest of my thoughts and opinions run around the same vein. Always wanting more and being a bit disappointed that the story was over when it felt like it should be beginning. If there's ever an expanded version released I'll be one of the first in line to buy it.
I simply fell in love with this story. I haven’t cried so much in a long time. Remy is an omega who discovered he was pregnant on the day he gave birth. Daniel is the alpha doctor who rescued Remy from other bully alphas. With the omega laws being unfairly set in favour of alphas, Remy being an undated omega is set to losing his baby to the system. This is a fight for both Remy and Daniel who have slowly fallen in love with each other, but don’t realise until it is almost too late. There is a happily ever after, but they both have to go through the refiners fire first.
I am voluntarily leaving my review for this book and this is my honest and fair opinion.
This series just breaks my heart the way the Omega's are treated. They are treated like a no class citizen, they don't get a higher education, an Alpha will get a free ride, but they need to pay their way, which is beyond what they or their families can afford. If they have a child unmated, that child is taken away. Remy doesn't remember ever having sex with anyone, but he ends up going into labor. This is a struggle of Remy not wanting to get attached to his child because he knows that he will be taken away. He also doesn't feel that an Alpha will never want him as he has a case of body extremely low self-esteem. Daniel had a trauma in his past that convinces him that he will never mate with an Omega. I'm glad they have finally found their HEA.
Remy doesn't know he's pregnant until goes into labor and it's made clear that he doesn't like babies yet he falls for his after one look. Daniel doesn't ever want to mate an omega but he falls for Remy and Teddy both.
The guy that raped Remy tries get baby for him his wife, but that didn't happen thankfully. I just wish this had been better both guys didn't click for me at all. I felt bad for them yes and was glad Remy got keep his son in the end, but only because he married Daniel. I read cause is Christmas book and on Kindle Unlimited I wouldn't purchase at all. The laws for omegas in this world are basically none.
Remy is a man with very little self-esteem, no surprise there since he's an omega. He lives in a world that treats omegas at best like pets, at worse like slaves. Omegas have only what their alpha owners allow them. What a horrible existence! But Remy, in spite of his heartbreaking circumstances, remains a kind, gentle man. He's a likeable, empathetic character who will have you rooting for his HEA. Although it's not strictly necessary for the enjoyment of this book, it does add depth to the characters if you have.
I can't believe this story is only 81 Kindle app e-pages long. There's a lot packed in these pages! Usually books this short leave much to be desired. Except for the lack of sexy scenes, this story feels complete.
The world-building is excellent, the character development is awesome, and the imagery is vividly descriptive. Each main character's thought and emotion is well-written. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I heartily recommend it!
Loved this, it even made me tear up! I thought it was a bit too short though, it felt somewhat rushed.
TAGS -- Holiday/Christmas -- fast easy read -- super sweet -- made me tear up -- made me smile -- non shifter mpreg -- age difference -- a sexless story -- loved the MCs...Remy & Daniel -- a bit too short -- want more
This is the second series I have read by this author. The writing style is very good and I like the characters and the happily ever after is a must. The dystopian world, the male omegas, male pregnancy with no rights is a challenge for me. However, I want the underdog to win and that keeps me reading.
I cried, that's what you get when you read omega verse set in around Christmas and 'you' yourself are alone just like the character .... Well at least one of us has a partner to celebrate it with.....
Crying again :(
Anyways the story is great, like I said I cried. I enjoyed the author's creative touch of twisting the emotions .
