Dante Hernandez is sure of only three he didn't deserve to go to prison, his gang mates want him dead, and if the cops find him, he can kiss his chance at freedom goodbye. Running for his life, Dante stumbles onto a huge secret-- a time machine hidden in the Arizona desert. Seizing the opportunity to go back and right the wrongs committed against him, he uses it to travel to the night everything changed for the worse. Unfortunately, his plans are shattered when the vehicle malfunctions, shooting him into the Wild West and stranding him over one hundred and fifty years from his intended path. Lost in a lawless and untamed world, Dante finds himself holed up in the mining town La Paz, struggling to make any kind of life for himself. It doesn't help that the sheriff is a merciless racist set on making him miserable, as well as a prominent historical figure. When Dante meets Abagail Baker though, he realizes there is a lot more at stake than his own survival. History can be cruel, and there is a terrible destiny awaiting the woman who seems to see right through his lies. Caught between his old life and the possibility of the new one before him, Dante has only two options. Will he return to his own century and clear his name, allowing history to go on untainted, or will he be branded as one of the desperados of the West?

I'm re-posting this from a blog piece I wrote on this book:
I haven't read all of Kamery Soloman's works, but from what I have read, she is quite devoted to the time travel genre. This book follows reformed con, Dante Hernandez, as he tries to rebuild his life in Arizona--only to be found by members of the gang he used to work for, La Lumbre. In trying to outrun his likely murder, he stumbles into an opportunity to travel back in time to correct all wrong-doings. However, it doesn't exactly turn out as planned. Instead, Dante finds himself catapulted a hundred and fifty years back into what is commonly considered the 'Wild West.'
The way time travel is depicted in this novel is one that I rather enjoyed--it takes on Star Trek vibes of warping through time and space. The surrounding mass--objects and landscape--transform rather than the characters, which is actually a theoretical concept that scientists believe is accurate in how humans could break past the speed of light in a far-off, distant future. Otherwise, the best words I have to describe this book are, 'titillating,' and 'adventurous.' What more could you really want?
This book was my first Time Travel Romance, and I found it to be much more than just a time travel romance. Author Kamery Solomon explores themes of carrying on after loss (how our experiences inform our future and make us who we are) and the idea that history is written by the victors (and if we could go back in time, we might find a past reality different than what we were taught in school).
I LOVED how Solomon used real Arizona ghost town La Paz as her setting and made the settlement survive to be her protagonist's present-day reality. The opening chapters offered clues as to what Dante would discover, making for an interesting overlap of past and present. Solomon brings the Wild West to life with excellent descriptions of the desert landscape and even a game of Faro!
Dante has a powerful desire to "fix" his life. I thought the plot and stakes were nicely developed for the most part, though I expected his decision to go after Red Kelly to have more impact in shaping his Old West identity. Also, there was some confusing time travel whiplash (an unnecessary twist?) at the end.
Kamery Solomon has done it again with her new time travel novel, Shot Through Time. The characters are so believable and engaging, drawing us in until you aren’t sure what is fact and what is fiction. The hazards Dante faces are both frustrating and heart wrenching, can’t a guy get a break? Then to accidentally stumble upon a time machine? I mean, what’s a guy to do? The town of LaPaz is so real and fascinating I found myself wanting to know more. Is it a real town in the Wild West? Does it still exist? Are any of the people in this story based on historical figures? Another fantastic read by one of my favourite authors, I highly recommend reading it!
Time travel has never really been interesting to me until I found Solomon. She writes historically intriguing books with adventure and romance. Dante has a rough go at life in the 21st century. Accidentally meeting a woman with a special machine he shoots to the Wild West. My son is studying this time period and I found it very accurate with his studies. A highly enjoyable read! I was pleased to receive an early copy, review was written voluntarily.
