Sometimes there are things that can't be expressed in words, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try. Enclosed in this chapbook are poems on topics such as disability, abuse, love, and politics.
This was a very gritty collection of poems that focused on topics that almost everyone can relate too. They really hit me deeply and I truly enjoyed this collection.
Even if you're an activist or relate to the author's experiences, there's still plenty for everyone to learn from Amethyst. This is a book filled with the author's personal truths, blatant honesty on the grander, more societal scale, and raw emotion. The poetry is lovely, and the content is meaningful; I definitely found myself delightfully and darkly surprised more than once while reading through this collection. In turn, I absolutely recommend Bartlett's Amethyst to anyone looking for their next read.
As a person who also struggles with mental and physical health, I found the poems relating to these experiences particularly memorable. The author writes in a heartfelt and empathetic manner that will tug on the hearts of even those who are in a perfect state of health. Not only relatable in a way that makes people like me better understand their own feelings, these poems create an atmosphere of awareness that is uplifting.
An incredibly deep, beautiful look into the messy business of healing and disability. I've really started enjoying poetry this year, and this collection is among my favorites so far!
