1 star. The writing was subpar at best, I couldn't connect to the characters or the story, and the plot was pretty cliche and boring to an extent. The story felt like it dragged on for ages (which it did, because it was over 450 pages). It felt like it went on for far too long yet went way too fast in the way of development.

It made me roll my eyes that Mia and Colt knew each other for barely a day and she was talking about how she can tell he acts different around one person compared to everyone else, and she can apparently make him laugh and smile when he hasn't in years. It's been a day. His sister is the one that says this - that he never smiles or laughs and has never acted this way with a woman. This was on day two of Mia being with Colt at his place. Which is a whole other thing. They met very briefly at her job and she ran to him for protection after some guy doing business with her boss came after her and Colt was perfectly fine with it and let her stay with him. I guess I'm just one to appreciate a build up, and this book definitely had none of that. I mean, granted, they kissed on like the second page after meeting a few seconds prior so idk what I was expecting.

On approximately day two or three of them knowing each other, apparently she is the "Prez's woman"(and a few chapters later we find out that the night Colt and Mia met - where they talked all of five minutes and shared a kiss - that Colt announced to his club his intention of making Mia his old lady.).

Also, why is everyone blurting out their life story two minutes into a conversation? It's like every new character introduced has to explain how crappy their life was and it just made no sense.

More on the extremely fast-paced storyline - Mia goes and gets Colt's club and name tattooed on her after ten days of knowing him (and he gets her name on him)...and they say I love you afterwards. Less than two weeks they've known each other lol.

And random side note, if you're in it for the smut, maybe look elsewhere. Sure they have sex quite a few times, but the scenes are like half a page long most of the time, or basically fade to black, so there's not much to read there. I'm adding this in because someone actually recommended this book to me and said there was a lot of spice...I simply do not agree with that lol.

There's some other stuff that made no sense - like Richie giving her the bar? Also, he "left her a clue" by leaving a key to his storage unit in her truck? That doesn't make sense at all. Especially not the key part - I'm assuming he wasn't expecting to die, so there's no way he'd just leave her the key to that unit given what he had in it. Idk. Just something random that made me think "wtf?". Another random thing - her father happens to be in the MC? That's quite a coincidence lol. I know these kinds of things were most likely written this way to move the plot along, but it's just extremely unbelievable.

Oh, and maybe I'm the only one, but I think the fact that Dev came to the conclusion that Mia knew where the drugs were simply because she worked at the bar and he saw her drop her boss off at the bus stop was very dramatic. And the fact that he still came after her after he killed Richie made no sense. I have to assume he would have tortured the information out of Richie, so what was the point of going after her still? Just doesn’t make sense.

I have some other problems with the book but these are most of them. All in all, I didn't enjoy this read, a lot of stuff made no sense to me(if you couldn’t tell by how many times I said that no sense was made lol), and the writing style just wasn't for me. It was endless dialogue (and had a lot of what I call telling and not showing - meaning most of what happened happened through them talking back and forth; there's not a whole lot of detail or details via inner dialogue behind the scenes which made it hard for me to connect to what was happening), and I honestly felt like this book didn't go through an editing stage. I feel like a lot of stuff could've been cut out because it was irrelevant and just served to end up making the book be twice as long as it should've been.

"Do you know who you just kissed?"
"Yeah, I kissed a guy who scared off some punk kid who wanted to pay me for a night in bed."
Shelly shook her head, her honey blond ponytail sweeping her shoulder. "No, you just kissed a Blue Angel."

5++ stars!!!

Yall, I am speechless. Stunned by the absolute perfection that was this book. I seriously hope I am able to express how much I thoroughly loved and adored this novel in my review. But if I start rambling and lose you at some point, please know that I am so in love with this story and its characters and just everything about WRECK & RUIN, and I wholeheartedly recommend it!
I thought about how nothing good lasted forever, but it was the same for the bad. Life was volatile and mercurial and it liked to kick me while I was down. But it also had the power to lift me up and give me everything I ever needed. And things I didn't even know I wanted.

Before I was fully entranced by the story of this beautiful and unrelenting novel, I was pulled in by the alluring writing. This is only my second book by Emma Slate so she's still a relatively new-to-me author, but her writing in WRECK & RUIN just slayed me. So many passages resonated with me on such a deep level--passages about loss, love, moving on, and feeling trapped. I teared up, I smiled, I took a deep breath and kept reading because her writing kept pulling me in.
I was the daughter of an MC president. I was related to the O'Banions as well as the Capones. My bloodlines did not lie and I was born for this life.

After she witnessed a drug deal between her boss and the President of the Iron Horsemen, Mia becomes their next target after her boss disappears and commandeers a shit-ton of cocaine. She then goes to the President of the rival MC gang, the Blue Angels, for protection. Her protection comes at a price however, as Dev will stop at nothing to get his drugs back, and she unknowingly brings danger and destruction to the family who has taken her into their folds. Mia was a rock-solid heroine. She was vulnerable but strong, compassionate yet unwaveringly loyal to her new family. Her character arc was intense and unrelenting, and she absolutely drove this story forward.
Humor radiated off of him and it was nearly my undoing. Surly Colt made me want to keep my distance. Happy, smiley Colt made me want something else entirely.

And then there was Colt, the surly and tough President of the Blue Angels and protector of women. When he finds Mia on the doorstep of his business--bruised, bloody, and in need of protection--his possessiveness and need to help her surfaces and he takes her under his wing. As he and Mia continue to spend time together, he slowly allows himself to be vulnerable with her and allows himself to want something deeper in life. In addition to the tough biker exterior he wears for his MC rivals and his Blue Angels brothers, Colt turned out to be a sentimental and vulnerable character, and I loved seeing the juxtaposition of his various faces. He was the one who pursued Mia and knew that he wanted her in his life before she decided to choose him in return, and it was such a nice change in pace. His humor and their resulting banter was just fucking adorable, and I loved them together so much.
"You should always speak your mind. There will be times that I don't want to hear it. Times that I disagree with you. Times that I agree with you. There will be times that I know you're right, but wish you were wrong. Or I'll know you're wrong but wish you were right."

In addition to the incredible relationship between Mia and Colt, there were so many other great relationships and characters in this story as well. The family dynamic of the Blue Angels was so steadfast and infallible; they may not have been family by blood, but they all protected and cared for each other above all else. There was also great comic relief from Boxer, Zip, Joni and other Blue Angels members in between all of the danger and sadness that permeated the story, and I can't wait to see more of their stories.
This beautiful, inked, criminal wanted to protect and shield me. He wanted a family with me. He wanted a life with me, and I wanted one with him.

Overall, I LOVED THIS BOOK. I cannot recommend it enough. It was such an inclusive and complete story, and it was nice seeing Flynn and Bennett again even though I haven't finished their story yet. This was one of my favorite contemporaries of all-time, and I will definitely be continuing on in this series!!

My Colt, the soft and hard President of the Blue Angels..

His lips brushed my forehead, "I love you. Losing you would devastate me. My life has no meaning without you. There. Are you happy?"

I smiled, my eyes still closed, "Your delivery needs work, but yeah, Colt. That made me happy."

Wreck and Ruin
follows Mia, a grieving bartender who gets thrown head first into a war between MCs in Waco, TX. One night, a sketchy guy starts pestering her and she unknowingly walks up to the MC President, Colt, the older, broody, borderline asshole mmc. When the rival gang is after her because of her connection with her boss, she runs to Colt and his MC for protection. What follows is an insta love story with a slow burn plot and forced proximity. I know I’m in the minority when I say I don’t hate insta love, but in this book’s case it did not work. It was so unbelievable and I just couldn’t get past it.

Mia is 100% a bad ass. She’s battling grief and trauma, and stands her ground in a club full of morally gray men. Colt is, honestly, mostly a dick. But not in the cute grumpy x sunshine trope way. He also cannot communicate AT ALL. The beginning of the book started off so well. There was banter, tension, and great side characters. The plot was moving. But the middle chunk was so boring. Once Mia and Colt got together (like 2 days after they met…), their banter and tension completely dissolved. I absolutely loved the side characters, but that wasn’t enough for a romance novel. The romance really took a back seat, and honestly, I wasn’t that interested in the MC drama. I wish there was more focus on the romance, because even the plot took a backseat to that drama.

I can’t wholeheartedly recommend this BUT if you like MC, insta love, forced proximity, mortal peril, and suspense, you might like this. 3 stars because the beginning and ending were great, but it really lagged in the middle for me.

This book had so much potential in the beginning and then it just fell flat. For starters it was too long and had too many mundane details with barely any suspense and action. It got really boring to read only from the heroines pov. The romance was really just blah. I was interested in the other members like Cheese and Boxer and even the heroines best friend Shelly. Thought maybe the author was setting something up for another book with Shelly and a biker? But nooooo instead she kills off Cheese and Shelly. Pissed me off, didn’t see why she needed to do that and the ending and epilogue we’re just ruined for me.

26% - - - This is an MC book and NO MC business thus far.

I've discovered there's a thin line between Chemistry and Insta "Like"

I love a read when the main characters have this FIRE Chemistry that can not be denied... This was not that kind of read.

I don't like -Insta Like without Chemistry

I kept putting off reading this book, It’s been on my TBR for awhile. I let my sister pick my next book and she chose this for me. I did enjoy reading it and overall I would recommend it especially if MC romance is your preference.

My biggest issue with this book is that Colt never took Mia for a ride on his bike. I was so disappointed by this because Colt kept making the statement that he wanted Mia on the back of his bike. I know she had a hand injury before you come for me but come on this is a book, we needed the motorcycle ride with them. Also, we needed the wedding between Colt and Mia and more of Joni and Zip. I wish they had their own book.

I wish i could give this book negative stars. (Get ready for my rant). This book is nauseatingly sexist in everything that happens in this book. So focused on the idea that a women is less than a man and that we need their protection constantly. The characters in the book are frequently SHOCKED that the main gal has an opinion or asks questions (not to say shes better or more likeable then the others). I swear to god you could read the first chapter and the last chapter and know exactly what happened, it is so predictable and not in the “yeah it’s predictable but at least the romance is cute” way. When i finished this book i nearly cried out of relief. DO NOT READ THIS PLEASE. No likeable characters, no chemistry, a stupidly fast time line. And the main plot only comes up when it’s convenient AKA when the two characters are taking a break from what sounds like the worst sex ever. I would take the stupid book that i read before this one any day because at least the author had a sense of humour. And don’t even get me started on the grammar - did this author even have an editor?? Or could they not get through this piece of trash??

Eeeeek 😅

Really disliked Colt. Mia was just okay - she’s very back and forth. They get mad at each other a number of times but don’t actually resolve the issues, they just move on. I feel like Mia just accepts her fate since she succumbed to his pressure to tattoo his name and club on her… WTF was that all about?! A tattoo doesn’t just prevent rival MCs from killing someone. And Colt is kind of a dick. I know it’s a club but he’s just plain disrespectful to Mia.

this book is the definition of misogyny.

the plot:
day one, girl kisses biker. biker falls in love at first sight.

day two, brooding biker that hasn’t smiled in years is laughing because of the girl.

day three, biker wants her as his old lady.

and yes an old lady is as bad as it sounds and i quote: “it’s more binding than marriage.”

day ten, she accepts.

day eleven, he forces her to tattoo his name with the biker club logo on her (for protection).

and the fact that dev wants her dead because what?? she was just a bartender it never made sense to go the lengths he did.

its a waste of time.

I can’t remember what list I saw this book on Goodreads in, but that’s how it got on my radar. I should’ve said never mind once I saw that it was over 400 pages. This was dragged out! Even with the suspense with the cartel and other MC group nothing happened plot wise. By the time we finally got to the end, I was exhausted but glad to be done.

As far as characters go, if you like a MMC that is possessive, makes it clear what he wants from you, and also will protect you at all costs; then Colt is that guy. While he wasn’t sweet per say, his actions let you know he was 100 down for Mia. Gotta love that in a guy.

Mia … There were so many times that I wanted to stop reading this book because of her. I feel like she was written to be tough, but honestly, she was tiring AF. She was selfish and didn’t really understand that she couldn’t take on the world by herself.

I did enjoy the other characters here. The men of the Blue Angels MC and their old ladies really fleshed out this book. I enjoyed how they accepted Mia into their lives and they had a lot of funny moments.

All in all, I’m glad I finished it, but it was long for no reason. I see that the next book is about Boxer and I would pick it up, but that book is also over 400 pages. Maybe if I get bored later, but it definitely won’t be right now.

i wanted to DNF so badly but i pushed through😭

when i saw a first chapter snippet on tik tok and heard biker gang i was all in. but the writing is mediocre at best, the dialogue stuffy, and the plot had pacing issues. i’m all down for having a silly little time when the book is poorly written, but nothing could keep me interested.

i won’t be continuing the series. tik tok this one hurt💔

2 Conflicted Stars

I am so undecided as to how I feel about this book which is really unusual for me, I usually have an opinion about pretty much everything.

The synopsis is that Mia works in a bar and one night a guy tries it on with her so she walks up to a hot guy - Colt - who has just walked in and she asks him to pretend to be her boyfriend to scare off the other chap. One hot kiss later and the other guy is gone. Mia and Colt part ways until she sees him beating someone up. There follows an incident which sees Mia's boss in trouble with a nasty MC President, Dev , and subsequently Mia ends up running away. She flees and the person who ends up keeping her safe is the President of the Blue Angels MC, Colt.

I was not keen on Mia, the heroine. It felt like she was swooping in and saving the day for people at every turn and I had a hard job warming up to her. I liked Colt , the Hero much more. He was very protective and loyal. As someone who reads a lot of MC romance, he wasn't as alpha as some Biker Heroes I have read about.

The secondary characters were very likeable apart from two and I was interested to find out more about most of them. The story took one particular twist that I did not see coming and I wasn't sure I liked. I get why the author did it but it wasn't the outcome I wanted.

So why 2 Stars?
Initially I thought that this would be a 3-3.5 star read but there is a point at which the author brings in two secondary characters from her Sins series which I had not read. These two are friends / acquaintances with Colt and they are intrinsic in helping the MC and Mia get out of a difficult position. The couple are referred to as being in the Scottish equivalent of the Irish Terrorist group the IRA. I did not like that they were held in a positive light and that absolutely did not work for me. I don't care what they do , I do not wish to see terrorists saving the day or stepping in to help. I will not be reading the Sins series either. I get that this will not be a big deal for many readers but reviews are all about the reader's feelings and I did not like how that character development made me feel. It's a shame as there were elements of the story I had enjoyed.

HEA? Yes
Cheating? No

Emma Slate's Wreck & Ruin has wrecked and ruined me for all other MC books. To be honest, every other time I've read an MC, I've been disappointed. I had actually started thinking that maybe the MC trope just wasn't for me. However, Emma turned that all around for me with Wreck & Ruin.

I've read almost all of Emma's other books, including those she writes as Samantha Garman. I love her work because she creates beautiful, intriguing worlds filled with flawed, sometimes malevolent, characters but somehow makes you understand and respect them by the end. Lovers of her SINS series will find similarities in how she creates the hero and heroine and will be intrigued by the connections between the worlds.

In Wreck & Ruin, Mia is pretty much alone. She has her best friend, Shelly, but that's it. She seems to be barely making it as a bartender in a bar in Waco, but her life is turned upside down when she meets Colt. In a lot of ways, Colt is like very other MC president. He's hot, tattooed, sometimes gruff, violent, and generally a "bad boy." What Emma Slate did, though, was create a man who makes you love him despite those flaws, and a man who actually respects the woman he's with. Turns out, that's what I've been missing in all those other MCs. Colt and Mia's relationship is HEALTHY and they forge their way forward without tearing the other down to accomplish what they need to accomplish. In addition to this, the theme of being able to choose your own family really resonated with me, and it was a really powerful concept for Mia as well.

I don't know if Emma is planning to turn this into a series, but I will be jump up and down excited if she does. Can't wait for a book for Boxer!
