It'll get better with time. That's what everyone told me. They were so damn wrong.
That night on the bridge, I was ready for it to end. The pain. The guilt. I couldn't take it anymore.
But then HE showed up. Tall. Broad shoulders. A thick beard. Plaid shirt. Through the fog and rain, he looked like a giant lumberjack coming at me.
Turns out he was a mechanic who just happened to stop and notice something leaking from my car. Next thing I know, the guy's giving me a ride back to his garage.
He ruined my plan. I wanted to hate him for that but couldn't. Not after he told me what happened on that same night exactly one year ago.
Travis doesn't tell me it'll get better with time because he knows it isn't about the days or the hours or the minutes that pass. It's about the breaths.
With every breath, you get stronger. With every breath, you start to heal. With every breath, you see a sliver of light.
Before he found me on the bridge that night, I couldn't breathe. But Travis showed me how. And with every breath, I grew to love him.

Reading the synopsis will give a general idea of what to expect with this story. What isn't described is the emotion, the despair & feelings of helplessness that come from losing the most important person in one's life. The loss of any purpose & the wish to die right along with them is a daily condition for Skye. Her guilt consumes her & is a staple that she can't seem to shake. Along comes Travis, also burdened with his own loss, is further along with the healing & acceptance of the death of his brother & uses patience, distractions & eventually love to bring Skye back to the land of the living. An extremely sad & touching story for both MC's, with a gradual mix of trust, romance, understanding & even humour. This is my first read by Allie Everhart, an author not only capable of delving deep into the mind of the grieving but also the interesting & painful interactions from others also suffering. A wonderful book!
I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review. You know that elusive book hangover we all long for? Allie delivers that and so much more with With Every Breath. This book was like romance novel perfection. The kind of book that wraps you up in its story immediately, keeps the butterflies coming, and ends before you're ready to let go. It's smartly written, sometimes funny, and...ugh it did things to my heart. Wonderful, swoony, feely things. Just make sure you have tissues on hand. You will need them.
Just wow The loss of your cousin and best friend is soul destroying but on the night Skye decides to take her own life a mystery man turns up thinking she has broken down. This is a story of 2 very broken souls struggling to move on and deal with life without their loved ones. Can they find comfort from each other to move on in their lives or will their grief be too much.
This is a truly emotional book to read, but is definitely worth it.
What a read!! This books was yet another epic representation of how amazing Allie is as an author. There were times I laughed, cried, and was on the edge of my seat in anticipation all throughout the course of this book. After a tragic accident, Skye has decided that enough was enough in her life and has decided to take action. On the night of said action, before she is able to follow through, Travis finds her and while he doesn’t know what’s going on, senses that she needs him. Travis himself had also gone through something tragic, but has worked through his grief much more than Skye has. While they pair bond over their grief, which ironically lands on the same day, they also notice the attraction they have for each other, but don’t act on it. But when Skye’s aunt pushes them to work together, things change. The book revolves mainly around Skye dealing with her grief and learning how to move on from her survivor’s guilt, but it also shows Travis dealing with guilt of his own that is different yet similar to Skye’s. As they develop their relationship romantically, Travis helps Skye to overcome her grief, but everything comes to a halt when he finds out why Skye was at the location she was the night they met. When their breakup forces Skye to work through unresolved issues from her childhood, we see how it has the ability to bring them back together, and then get the surprise of a lifetime in how both Travis and Skye’s loss are connected. I couldn’t get enough of this storyline and loved every page and every word. I can’t wait for the next book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Such a sad story and I still didn’t want it to end. Tragedy unites Travis and Skye and their meeting each other is completely fate. They both suffered tragic losses but handled it differently. In their own way they saved each other. They were instantly attracted to each other the night they met but hid it from each other. They danced around it and it was actually very cute to see. Nothing was rushed and the way Travis tried to help Skye overcome her pain was heartwarming. He did everything he can to help her with her grieving. When they finally admitted their feelings it was just perfect. They go thru so much but come out stronger and more united at the end. Their ending was well deserved and I wanted more.
Ok so first of all it's about Skye a college girl, Travis a mechanic, Amy Skye's cousin, and Seth Travis' brother. So let's start with Skye and Amy. Skye and Amy were on their way to a party when Skye finds out that Amy is in love and didn't tell her, it's stormy and their about to cross a bridge when Amy gets a text from him, Skye is begging her to read it and when she does, she swerves and her car crashes off the bridge into the river, Amy is unconscious and Skye tries to save her but can't. Fast forward a year, Skye is back at the bridge to jump, to be with Amy when Travis pulls up and stops her (saves her). They go back to his car mechanic shop and they start talking when they discover that Seth died the same day as Amy in a motorcycle accident. Travis is terrified for Skye because she won't tell him what she was doing on the bridge. The next day Travis hires Skye at the mechanic shop to pay for the damages to her car. They're both attracted to each other but choose to stay friends for now. They go back and forth a lot until finally, they get together. 3 weeks into their relationship they say I love you. and Travis finds out that the night on the bridge Skye was going to kill herself to be with Amy. The guilt and pain she felt were too much for her then, but now she's happier, getting better because of Travis. He is so upset that she was thought no one would miss her and that it was for the best. A week goes by and they get back together obviously. When we find out (what I already guessed) Amy and Seth were together, the only living person who knew was Marcus, Seth's roommate. Then we find out the text that caused the crash was from Marcus, on Seth's phone telling Amy. Seth and Amy brought Travis and Skye together. A beautifully written love story. I can't describe how deep this story is. Amazing book!

I could so relate to the characters in this book!! Skye lost her cousin in an accident they were both in. On the night Skye decides to end her life, an "angel" appears aka Travis the mechanic, and keeps her from jumping, unknowingly. In saving her, he becomes the person that winds up bringing her back to life. I loved how the relationship developed between the two, as well as how her relationship between her guardians healed. A really great read!!
Loved it from the beginning, heartbreaking, surprised, then became hopeful. Travis and Skye reminded me so much of Garrett and Jade. Excellent beautifully written, great job again, Allie. Can't wait to read it again in my book club next month. Highly recommend this book❤❤
I quite enjoyed the reading. A cute and touching love story that came out of grief and loss. It showed us two different stages of grief and ways to deal with it. How each person gets over the death of their loved ones and how much it costs to forgive oneself for not having been able to avoid it, even if it was not possible.
4.5 Stars - This was an emotional story about loss and love. I liked the characters and the story development was great. I could feel their pain and frustration as well as their healing. A very good read!
This book was long but worth the time to read it. Such a sad story with a happy ending. Glad Travis and Skye found each other or rather Seth and Amy brought them together. There were some errors in the book but nothing to keep you from finishing it.
I’m a huge fan of Allie Everhart’s books and this one is no exception. Skye got in my nerves at times but her story drew me in. I’m not going to lie I almost cried reading it. The grieving process is personal and sometimes it takes someone else to give us a push to move on. Travis and Skye’s story was amazing, it wasn’t perfect but, it was raw and honest. Both of them went through a great loss and helped each other get through it. I definitely wouldn’t mind a short story in the future to catch up with them. I could not put this book down once I really started reading it.
With Every Breath gave me all the feels. My heart broke big time for Skye and Travis only to soar high again with hope even in the darkest of hours. I finished this book with a renewed sense of hope springing eternal even for those who seem the most lost. Skye and Travis's story made me truly believe in "meant to be". ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Five stars for Allie Everhart who made me feel so completely immersed and invested in these character's emotions from start to finish.
I absolutely loved this story! It was raw and emotional and amazing. I loved Travis and Skye, and how they got through their grief and hardships together. I definitely recommend this book!
