The Guy in the Window

Rate this book
I was in the middle of my divorce when Adam messaged me. I believe his exact words were, “Hi. I think you’re my dad’s brother. Would you like to get to know me?” My brother and I had never been close, so I’d only met his adopted son a few times when he was very young. Instinct told me to ignore the message, and I did. For a few days. It took an exhausting fight with my soon-to-be ex-wife and half a bottle of whiskey for me to change my mind. Adam first became “sort of my nephew.” Next, he became the guy who helped me find an apartment in the building next to his. He was a sweet, cheerful young man doing his best to raise his four-year-old daughter, which led to him becoming the guy who wanted to help me patch up my relationship with my own daughter. Then one night as I got ready for bed, I looked across the alleyway to the next building, where I saw him getting ready for bed too. I couldn’t look away to save my life. It was the night he also became the guy in the window.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

This was spectacular.

Cara Dee seems to specialize in a bit of kink in her romances and she did it amazingly well in this 'forbidden love' trope between uncle and nephew (though not biologically, so let´s put the hay forks away ;-)

Everett goes through a typical mid-life divorce. At 45 years of age and working as a successful architect, his wife presents him with divorce papers and blames him for everything that led up to their separation.

Ev is a family man. The love of his daughter Grace is most important to him and seeing her avoid him now is more painful than the actual divorce from a woman he hasn't felt a connection with in a long time.

What he doesn't need on top of everything else, is a Facebook message from his estranged nephew Adam - the boy that Ev's late brother adopted and whom he hasn´t seen in 20 years.

Judging from his Facebook profile the 27 year old is a dad to a 4 year old girl himself.
Acting on a whim, he meets and befriends the young man and even decides to move into an apartment that Adam recommends to him - and which happens to be in the opposite building to his.

Adam and his daughter Bella become a fixture in Everett's life, but it isn't until he secretly spies on Adam masturbating through the window that Ev starts questioning his heterosexuality and finds a new label to his feelings for Adam - who is an openly gay single dad, by the way.

This is a deliciously beautiful and absolutely kinky age gap romance. I love the tightrope walk between keeping the theme super kinky and yet allowing it to be perfectly alright by having them not be related.

Their sex is out of this world, and although the dirty talk (they make heavy use of their obvious uncle/nephew situation for sexual gratification and also a bit of power play and humiliation) is considerably heavier than my personal preference, I found this story to be perfectly sweet and touching.

Adam couldn't have found a better partner in life and in bed than his 'uncle' and it really soothed my soul to see a good guy like Ev get a second chance at happiness and at a family in life.

description

I am totally grateful this story worked out so beautifully to allow a satisfying happy end. I think in real life all that happened here would have been a bit too much to handle for most people.

5 stars to the power of romance storytelling and to two wonderful character who aren't ashamed of who they are and what they like!

I really liked this. It flowed so easy! Lots of chemistry. Charismatics characters. (I loved Adam's boldness and confidence, and also how open, honest and brave Ev was). Besides, age gap peeps!!!! Hot dammit!!! I.AM.A.SUCKER.FOR.AGE.GAP 27/45 😍😍😍

I just wish there was more. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It felt like a teaser.😏

I do have a niggle though, the vile ex-wife. She could have been a normal person instead of a bitch.

⭐ 3.7 “The dirty uncle stereotype… but make it actually appealing” stars ⭐

I haven’t had the best fortune when it comes to Cara Dee, so after my last dud by her I decided to cave in and ask my much wiser pals for some recs. Now consider my surprise when one of those ended up being for a little less than 200 pages of an uncle and his nephew getting down and dirty, and all of it neatly packed in a some voyeuristic wrapping of its own…

Well, of course I had to read it.

Did I enjoy it, however?

description
I’m finally getting the Cara Dee hype, and I’m decidedly NOT looking back.

****************************************

Now, let me first address this, considering it was a bit of a disappointment for me at the start: this is not actual incest, but rather stepcest, since Adam was adopted by Everett’s older brother when he was a very young child. Yet while this might make the premise a little less appealing for some (if you are a twisted puppy like me), rest assured that Mrs. Dee does not pull any punches when it comes to the taboo or taboo adjacent angle.

If anything, both Everett and Adam get off on the family connection here, instead of trying to overcome it as yet another hurdle in their blossoming liaison. They refer to each other as Uncle and Nephew (which absolutely does include those steamy scenes), and in fact barely ever acknowledge the fact that there’s no actual blood relation linking them. So if taboo generally rocks your boat? I can promise your proverbial watercraft WILL be swayed.

(You’re gonna be able to fill up a couple of saunas with that steam, to put it mildly).

For me personally, this sort of exploration of boundaries and kinks is a large part of what made the story so exquisite. You get two ends of the spectrum with Everett , an older and recently divorced architect who is only just now beginning to grapple with some of his less conventional desires, and then Adam, considerably younger yet seemingly so much more assertive and secure in his own identity.

After these two reconnect under the guise of forming some kind of familial bond (they were estranged family members, after all), the lines quickly get blurred to the point where affection and attraction become indistinguishable. And for Everett in particular, this is at first hard to accept since he was never before able to fully admit his desires for other men. So not only recognizing he feels an allure towards his same sex, but also his much younger nephew? Let’s just say the man was using all sorts of excuses to justify himself, in true GFY/OFY fashion.

But who doesn’t end up accidentally pulling a Peeping Tom on their estranged relative, watching them engage in an impromptu jerk sesh across the street while thinking oh how neat would it be to draw them juuuust like that?

Don’t worry, though, it’s only artistic curiosity.

Luckily for him, his nephew was just as obsessed (what kind of taboo adjacent story would this be otherwise?). Indeed, the stalking here was fully reciprocated. And as a reader, you just get a kick out of watching these two grown men mutually pining for each other, circling the object of their desires without fully daring yet to engage, and, on top of that, doing the title of this story justice by engaging in a voyeuristic dance of faraway admiration.

Because windows do absolutely play a big role in this, of that I can assure you.

description
Adam and Everett’s dynamic summed up in a single gif, pretty much.

And then, when finally all of that delicious forbidden crushing and UST reached its crescendo… boy, how Cara Dee delivered. Adam and his Unc (no joke, that’s his pet name for Everett) don’t only cross into forbidden territory, but embark on an entire odyssey past it. Of the decidedly kinky variety.

Yet even past the gloriously written smut, you get a nice degree of emotional attachment going on for this couple as well. Their romantic connection, at least for me, went well beyond just some (considerably spicy) steam. So while I’m guessing a lot of people will end up reading this simply for that taboo twist, the truth was that I found myself looking forward to those small moments of domesticity shared between them just as much.

Both Everett and Adam were parents with daughters of their own (although Everett’s was in college, while Adam’s was just a kid), so actually getting to watch the men bond over that and even teach each other a thing or two about parenting was quite an unexpected pleasure. It fleshed out their characters better in a way, gave them a motivation beyond just being a centerpiece in a romance story, and in return provided a new kind of believable intricacy to their relationship.

(Basically, I went in for the smut and did not expect to actually get an interesting character/relationship arc along the way)

Not everything was perfect, however, and I could point out some issues with the pacing as an example. How most of the last few pages seemed to be rushing to tie up all loose ends… only to end up welcoming the kind of lackluster epilogue that left me famished for some real closure. It was still very firmly in the HEA territory, but I wished we could’ve seen the main couple actually interacting instead of just narrating how the past few months had been.

I could point all of that, and perhaps a few things more, such as Cara Dee’s bizarre insistence of painting wives/ex-wives as gold-digging caricatures without any sort of redeeming qualities. Besides Aftermath, this has been the unfortunate second time I’ve noticed that happening, and I’m afraid of it turning into a pattern.

Yes, certainly I could elaborate more on all of those niggles… but being completely honest?

description
Because the author managed to deliver on all of what I was ultimately craving and then some more. So for that alone, I can’t find it in myself to be too critical.

All in all, a definitive recommendation from me to anyone who considers themselves a fan of blurred lines, a side of taboo lite and some wholesome family times (sans comically evil ex-wife). Believe me, chances are you will enjoy this too!

God knows I did, at least.

**********************************

And once more, before signing off…

Keywords to figure out if this book might be for you:

Stepcest. A down on his luck Uncle figuring out his lot in life and the commanding Nephew who shows him the way. BDSM lite. Humiliation kink (the uncle gets off on being uncomfortable, and the nephew just loves to have him at his mercy). Enough dirty talk to require almost constant eyebrow wiggling. Yet more than enough tender and domestic moments for those starving for some gentleness. Wholesome family dynamics, plus toxic ones that slowly get healed. Kid characters that are not annoying. Sexuality Discovery or GFY/OFY (The uncle). Shamelessly owning who you are (The nephew). The mandatory jealousy scene at a club setting. And, last but not least, enough Peeping Tom moments to amply justify this book’s title.

I'm late to the party, but three cheers for this story because:

- Pseudo nephew/uncle plus plus age gap (Everett is some two decades Adam's senior)

- Hot, gay virgin sex with elements of mild humiliation (Ev loves it when Adam makes him acknowledge his basest desires)

- Voyeuristic aspect that was sexy AF (and somehow not creepy since we're privy to a few short passages from Adam's POV)

- Great epilogue/HEA!

- Bella, Adam's daughter, was a hoot. I especially liked her dream of owning a restaurant in Boystown.

Minor complaints:

- I wish Ev had been divorced a couple months at least when he started lusting after Adam. It's not that there was cheating because Ev's marriage was so over; I'm just not a fan of stories where one of the MCs is somehow still attached to an ex. Plus, Ev's ex-wife was a shrill, lazy bitch and too easy to hate.

- Grace, Ev's college-aged daughter, was a spoiled brat. You had a privileged childhood with parents who supported your every dream and adore you still, sweetheart. Cry me a fucking river. My kids would love to have their dad back for just one more hour. I wish Ev hadn't been quite so careful with her.

I don’t know why I put off reading this for so long because I freaking loved this! *swoon

I grabbed my case and picked out a pen, and I scribbled “The Guy in the Window” at the bottom of the drawing.

Underneath the name of it, another line came straight from my heart. “Who showed me the world.”

And man, they were so panty-meltingly hot together. Cara really knows what she does when it comes to smut. Damn, girl!!

This was such a beautiful story, I totally recommend it. But while especially their ending was beautiful it was too short and I honestly feel a bit robbed of their HEA. That’s my only complaint and the reason I’m rounding down.

So looking forward to the other one and seeing Adam and Everett (and hopefully the girls too) again.

The first half of the book was great. Like 5 stars great.

But then things changed in a way I wasn't too happy about. Everett and Adam being "sort of related", the age gap and GFY would have been more than enough for a story this short. Personally, I could have done without all the kinky stuff. It just took away some of the good feelings I had for the story.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed the story as a whole. I loved the characters, loved the writing, loved the first half of the story and the epilogue was pretty great, too.

Told in dual POV, 1st person, it’s a standalone novella. I have known Cara Dee for her angsty stories but this one was a bit different, it’s a bit sweet and almost angst-free and still, I enjoyed it but I wish there would have been a bit of drama between the MCs. Everything was alright between them the whole time and it didn’t give me the taboo vibe, at all! Overall, I had a good time reading it and hope you enjoy it as well!

Cara Dee is hit or miss for me but this one was definitely a win.

Super steamy, mild kink, age gap, a bit of daddy/boy sprinkled in.

The only minor negatives:
--the overly bitchy ex-wife
--the pet name darling (though it was more towards the daughter)
--Adam calling Everett Unc (and Uncle) after they were together
--the length. I'm greedy and wanted more.

Otherwise, loved this one and recommend.

Ok, now that was filthy! Oh so filthy! Humiliation kink isn't really my thing, but I could definitely appreciate it in this story. The incest kink (the 2 MCs are not blood related) was a huge turn on, however. Cara Dee has a filthy, dirty mind and I am so grateful.

A good solid story but, for me, just needing a tiny bit more character development for Adam specifically.

I felt I totally understood Everett but there was more of a disconnect with Adam as his backstory didn't ever get fully explored. Why he'd severed his family connection was mentioned as a reason for him reaching out to Everett but then discarded.

I also found the formatting decision to have all of Adam's POV chapters in italic a bit of a strange one, especially given how it can be difficult to read for those with visual impairments.

That's my two niggles out of the way. The rest, ignoring the 'faux' nephew elements, brought an interesting and sweet twist on the gay for you trope which I enjoyed a lot.

I liked how Everett just went with the flow when he realised he was attracted to Adam and I loved his determination to fix his relationship with his daughter Grace

Speaking of daughters, Adam's Bella was a delight and I really loved her.

I also loved the sexual exploration, the humiliation kink was perfectly worked into the narrative and it never veered into dramedy or overly angsty.

Overall, it just suffered a little from being a short story rather than a full blown novel for me. I'd have liked more of them together.

But the Epilogue was all ends up beautifully done.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

Cara Dee did not disappoint. It was a lovely and sweet story of two men, so different yet so similar, and fitting just perfectly together. Their chemistry was oooh so good.

"...be careful with making demands around me, Ev, because I'm a control freak with a filthy imagination in bed."

I adored Adams' easiness and unapologetic attitude toward life. I loved Everett's drama-free acceptance of himself and the way he healed the relationship with his daughter. And Adam's daughter Bella? Oh, this little girl was everything!! This smart and funny little sweetheart made me fall in love with her.
Was the drama with the ex-wife necessary? Not really, I could totally live without her viciousness... But I guess we can't have everything.

All in all, a hot and kinky story with lots of sweetness and love.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

This is a coming of age story about a 45 year old man in all it’s awkward, beautiful glory.

Adam and Bella are the cutest thing ever! And I’d want to draw Adam naked too.

Melinda is such a weird little shit.

Apparently people in Chicago don’t believe in curtains or blinds … not that I’m complaining.

This is the perfect mix of adorably sweet and dirty.

Oh Grace, what a beautiful soul she is.

My only drawback is this wasn’t nearly long enough. I wanted to be there when they all had Christmas together. And because I’m petty like that, I wanted to see Melinda lose her shut when she found out.

Otherwise this was a gorgeously sweet and steamy af story.

4.5 Stars!! L❤️VED IT!! 💕I loved it so much that I finished it in one day 😍(which I rarely do these days) and I have added a new shelf "kink"😉 (I have read many a kinky book but none have inspired me to add a shelf 😳) The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt cheated by the length of the story😬.. I wish it was longer 😢
Everett in his 40s is going through a kind of mid-life crisis; he is in the middle of an acrimonious divorce from his vindictive wife of nearly 25 years, his college-aged daughter has distanced herself from him and is becoming even more inaccessible due to the physical distance between them over the last couple of years (His work is in Chicago and she's studying in California) In the middle of all this he receives a message from his "nephew" Adam, to see if they can meet and reconnect seeing as they are both estranged from their family. With a little back and forth and whole lot of honesty from Adam, to Everett's surprise; they do meet and he feels an inexplicable bond with Adam. In the beginning it's Adam's open and honest personality that attracts him but later Adam's physical perfection, assertiveness and confidence holds him captive and he almost becomes a voyeur 😳 😍 (hence the name of the book 😉) As he spends more time with Adam and Bella (Adam's daughter) his growing feelings confuse him and fill him with some guilt too, since Adam (although adopted by his parents) is still technically his "nephew" 😱😳 and sometimes affectionately calls him "Unc" 😉. Nevertheless, the closeness and mutual attraction between them inevitably leads to intimacy 😍 which is steamy, 💕sizzling, kinky 😉and so so HOT 🔥🔥🔥.
But is Everrett serious about his feelings for Adam or is this just a rebound relationship for him as Adam fears? Can he move past their "taboo" connection as well as the age-gap? Will Everett be able to renew his relationship with his daughter? Will Everett and Adam find their HEA despite the improbable looking relationship?
Told from the POV of Everett, with some snippets of Adam's thoughts, this story is how Everett finds himself, finds love and finds family... and I loved every bit of it 😍💘. I have read and loved Cara Dee's previous books as well, but this one was certainly less angsty and the kink and steam was just subtle enough to keep me hooked without turning me off💞. I wish it was longer so that I could spend more time with them and read past the amazing epilogue😍. Highly recommended to all fans of steam, sizzle, romance, age-gap and kink.. 😍👍👍

The tropes: „Forbidden love“ ✅
Age gap✅ humiliation kink✅ voyeurism✅
-> my needs satisfied☺️✊🏻
This was such a hot, dirty, sexy, but also, sweet and funny read.
It was really easy to get into the story and flow with it.
And to the characters OMFG, I love them with all my heart🥹🫶🏻
Also the tension and chemistry between Adam and Ev was flawless! I loved that we got, besides the really hot and sexy scenes, also a really good story and a meaningful plot.
I enjoyed this book immensely!!

After two and a half decades of marriage and at the age of forty-eight, Everett Scott is in the midst of a divorce and begins to reevaluate his choices and pursuits. Upon being contacted by his twenty-seven year old nephew, Adam, a standoffish dialogue slowly turns into a solid friendship. As Everett’s attraction to Adam deepens, it becomes clear they are both fighting feelings toward each other.

“You knew what you wanted, and you went after it.” I had so much to learn from this young man.”

With Everett being more introspective, Adam brings a fresh perspective and a big heart to their relationship and this further creates a spark within Everett resulting in a harmonious balance. Additionally, their chemistry in the bedroom is combustible. As Everett explores his sexuality with Adam, there are no boundaries and the taboo element adds to the hotness.

“I’ll take care of you. When you hurt too much, I’ll stop and whisper all those filthy things you’re obsessed with.”

What I enjoyed about this story is how both characters defined their own family and were no longer going to settle. Adam is so thoughtful and committed to raising his young daughter. Everett’s relationship with his own daughter added some conflict in the narrative, showing more of his need for reconciliation. Though I would have liked to know more about why the Scotts are estranged from their family, it didn’t necessarily detract from my overall enjoyment or the focus on Everett and Adam in the present.

The Guy in the Window is a M/M taboo romance that offers heart and plenty of steamy dirtiness. This book will appeal to those who enjoy age-gap themes and second chances.

There really is nothing I love more than when a book proves me wrong. There are too many times where I judge a book by the cover or by the blurb and reviews, I have read before I even try the book myself. The Guy in the Window was my latest victim. I've seen this book floating around for about a year and the subject matter didn't bother me but something about it kept saying "you won't like it Jess" so I would move on. Then a fellow reader (shoutout to Candy) was reading it yesterday and I said what the heck, just try it and I kind of loved it. There were quite a few......issues for me though.

The Guy in the Window plays right on the edge of taboo and for some it will completely cross the line. If you are going to go into this book just have an open mind because while parts of this story did make me go "oh shit" it wasn't anything that was a hard no for me either. PSA, I don't have too many hard no's though, so I am not sure if that says more about me or the book....

Everett is in the midst of a divorce when he gets a message from a nephew that he hasn't seen in close to 25 years. The first conversation he has with Adam is less than desirable and I guess that is what happens when you get into the whiskey and dive into social media. While he isn't his biological nephew, he is still family and since Everett doesn't speak to any of his family anymore, he tries to make amends and asks Adam out for lunch. As their friendship starts to form Adam brings him lunch and helps him find an apartment right across the ally from him that is exactly what he is looking for. Everett didn't realize exactly how close they would be until he sees Adam one night in bed and what he sees takes his breath away because he shouldn't be staring at his nephew when he is in bed, not like this.

Adam just wanted to see the uncle that was distanced from the family because he no longer speaks to any of his family, and this might be his only chance to connect with someone who could be family. From their first meeting there is something about Everett that Adam can relate to and as their relationship grows from hesitant strangers to friends, he sees that Everett is so much more than he originally thought.

He wasn't the lightning that struck, but the roll of thunder that shook the ground you walked on.

While these two men circle the obvious attraction, they have for one another they also have to be cautious because both men have daughters and the last thing, they want is to hurt either of their children. Adam is gay but Everett is a newly divorced man and Adam doesn't want to be his rebound when he knows how that song and dance usually go. Everett might have never been attracted to a man before but with Adam it isn't just the fact that he is a man it is who he is at his core.

Now for my issues, there was so much of this story missing for me. Why did Adam not talk to the family anymore? Why didn't Everett talk to the family anymore? What was with that epilogue? Did Everett's ex-wife ever say anything to him or Adam?

Honestly, I felt like this story could have been almost a 5-star read if those answers were put into the story. It was almost as if we only got part of the story and I wanted so much more because right when you start to really fall for Adam and Everett's love you are rushed through the last 5% of the book and then it is over.

Yes, this review is entirely too long for how short this story was, but it gave me some damn feelings man. Not all the feelings were good and not all were bad but basically, I wanted more. Again though, be cautious of the content because at its core this book is a taboo/incest(ish) type story. If those themes bother you then don't read it. When someone reads a book knowing the content is something they hate and then they rate it harshly it just ticks me off.

All in all, this story was so much better than I anticipated but as I was realizing exactly how much potential it had was when I noticed so much was lacking as well. Solid four stars though, I wouldn't mind reading another one of Cara Dee's books just to get a better feel for Cara as an author.

“One more thing, Ev.” He rubbed his wet tip against my opening, and I couldn’t fucking believe myself. I strained to meet him. “Who am I?”
I drew a shaky breath and felt the mortification wash over me at the same time as it turned my cock into a diamond. “My nephew,”

This book mostly suited my current reading mood. It was light and easy to read, dirty and HOT, no drama, a little taboo with a very sweet ending! I loved their dirty talks and the dynamic between them was so good! This was a beautiful, hot, and relatively slow burn story. It's not for everyone but it is so beautifully written that you won't be bothered about the genre and the plot. It was an enjoyable read from start to finish. I loved Cara Dee's writing style. She writes in a way that draws you in quite easily, can't wait to read more of her.

The first half of this book was a total 5 star read with fabulous characters, stellar writing and a story that sucked me in. Then the kink started and I felt it was unnecessary, the story stood so well without it and detracted from the story.

4 stars, which as I already said would've been 5 without the kink overload.

After years of uneventful marriage, Everett (Ev) Scott was starting over. Wanting to reconnect, he wished to repair his relationship with his teenage daughter before it’s too late. Adam Scott was an estranged nephew who came back into his life at the perfect timing. He helped Ev made changes into his new life. But he also brought something in Ev that was least expected.

This book was not what I expected at all. It turned out to be sweet and heartwarming, perfect for the holiday season.

There was something boyish about him sometimes, or unspoiled. He was already one of the most genuine souls I knew, and he liked the simple things in life. But right there, in his bed, he was all man.

I love the dynamic between Ev and Adam. It made their semi taboo relationship even hotter. I also liked how the story heavily focused on family connections. However, I personally would prefer the story to have more/deeper conflict(s).

“Either way, be careful with making demands around me, Ev, because I’m a control freak with a filthy imagination in bed.”

The Guy at the Window is a story of reconnecting with what’s important in one’s life. It would appeal to readers looking for a short, sweet M/M romance with a side of kink.

The chemistry between Adam and Ev is overly phenomenal and so hot. 😳😳😳Somehow I didn't expect that from the book at all. But my goodness, I'm all sweaty 😊😊😊 The pseudo uncle-nephew relationship at first was kind of boring, but adding voyeurism and Ev's reactions when Adam calls him his whore. I've rarely read such mild humiliation kink that had such a rip-roaring impact.
Well, besides the filthy scenes, the story also has a meaningful plot. 😲😲😲
Wonderfully written, interesting supporting characters and existential questions, and all within so few pages, I'm slightly impressed.

Adam gripped my chin and made me look him in the eye, and then he leaned in and spoke softly against my lips. “I wanna make you beg to suck your nephew’s cock.”

Incest play, dirty talk, plus a humilitation kink? Why, yes.. thank you. 😆 This was so hot and I absolutely loved it. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer! 4.5 stars

Favorite Quote:
"I couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was about Adam that made him my goddamn siren. Maybe it was in the subtlety. In the fact that he didn’t catch your eye on the first pass. He wasn’t the lightning that struck, but the roll of thunder that shook the ground you walked on. Adam consumed me with everything he was."

first but definitely not my last MM romance! this was beautifully written, it's just so sweet to see two souls coming together creating a beautiful love story. and oh my, the dirty talk here was HOT. the age gap between Adam and Everett was about 20 years and being the 'younger' one, Adam was a very mature character IMO.

This story reminded me a little bit of Noah. It wasn't a re-telling of course and there were many differences but the taboo aspect was pretty similar: the MCs were uncle and nephew but the nephew was adopted by the uncle's estranged brother and they hadn't seen each other for about twenty years.

But I think that's it as far as similarities go. I loved Noah and I'll always love that story. The Guy In the Window was also good - it's Cara Dee we're talking about after all! - but it just wasn't in the same league.

Adam is a single father, he has severed his connection with his adoptive family and is reaching out to Everett in an effort to find one family member he can have a relationship with. At the time, Everett is going through a divorce he didn't see coming and is slowly coming to terms with the fact that he was unhappy with his life and as a result he was disconnected from everything for a long time.

Everett decided this is a chance for him to start fresh, make his life the way he wants it to be and fix his broken relationship with his daughter. Adam is there to support him and offer advice first as a nephew, then as a friend and eventually as "the guy in the window". What I didn't like is that the transition between those phases happened too fast for me. I wanted them to have more time together before they moved on to the next title.

As for their daughters, both of them were important supporing characters and played a part in the plot. I thought that Bella sometimes didn't talk or act her age, but I could be wrong so I'll let someone else judge that. Grace was away in school for most of the story but she did make enough appearances to make me feel sorry at first for Everett and how she treaded him and then for her when she revealed the reason behind her behaviour.

Everett's ex wife started off good as a character, behaving according to what was happening in her life if a little over the top at times but she was allowed that. By the end of the story though she had transformed. She was besically the evil person in this story and I don't think it was necessaty to make her that way. The plot would have been just as good if she had calmer reactions.

I think a lot of people are going to hit pass on this story because of the supposed incest but I don't think that's actually something that happens here. It's more a kink for them both than a fact since they aren't related by blood and they don't actualy know each other prior to the story.

The age gap didn't play a major role here especially considering how mature and together Adam was, having his life figured out, knowing what he wanted and having organised his life accordingly and how lost Everett was, besically starting over and rediscovering his passion in life. I lked that the older guy wasn't the one to have everything figured out.

Adam and Everett's relationship was balanced and they were equals. The interactions between them and Bella were sweet and Adam soon developed a bond with her, genuinelly caring for her and wanting to be a part of her life as well as Adam's life.

The epilogue was great and I'm glad that's the way the author chose to end the story.

“Did you feel weird at first when you realized you were attracted to me?”
Weird was an understatement.
“It felt absurd and wrong,” I admitted. “Because we’re family and your hand’s currently two inches away from my dick?”
I gnashed my teeth and shot him a glare. “Why must you—“
“Because it’s fucking hot,” he said. “And your hand is still there.”

This short book packs a punch and delivers a filthy hot uncle/nephew stepcest romance in only two hundred pages. But it’s also a sweet story about two wonderful, lonely men falling in love: a silver fox uncle, Everett, in the middle of an ugly divorce and his younger nephew, Adam, who has the cutest precocious daughter. Aside from being long lost family, Everett and Adam are both devoted fathers who bond over a shared love for their daughters.

There’s great UST and relationship development. As Everett moves into the building across Adam’s, they secretly begin watching each other in their windows, and you can literally feel the sexual tension ratcheting up. They begin spending more time together and Everett gets closer to both Adam and his daughter. I loved Everett’s bi-awakening experience and their sexual dynamics. Everett (45 years) had been straight his whole life and married right out of college, while Adam (27) is gay and the more experienced partner. Adam, a power bottom, is assertive and takes control in bed where Everett soon discovers that he has a humiliation kink—and this makes for some scorching hot sex and dirty talk.
