250 books132 followersI grew up in the Midlands, but when I moved to Wales, over twenty years ago, I found a place to finally put down roots. I married into a farming family and embarked on a massive learning curve which also saw me learning Welsh when my two children were small.
Writing is something I have always wanted to do and I can still remember the thrill of one of my short stories being held up as an example to the class when I was about nine. It wasn’t until my own children were in school that I seriously started to pursue my dream. I joined a local writing group which met every Monday afternoon and being with like-minded people was the boost I needed.
Reading romance had always been my first love, and just about every short story I wrote was romance, so I decided to write my first book. During that process I also attended my first weekend writing course with Kate Walker and joined the RNA’s fabulous New Writers’ Scheme. A short time later I joined Romance Writers of Australia and learnt a lot from entering their competitions. I sought out courses and you can imagine my joy when I discovered Sharon Kendrick’s course in beautiful Tuscany.
Behind the Scandalous Façade, my So You Think You Can Write entry, is my thirteenth book and although only eight have those magic words ‘the end’ written on them the others are definitely part of the learning process I have enjoyed over the last six years.
I love escaping to distant shores with my characters, entering their glamorous world and feeling all the emotions they experience as they discover their love for one another. A love so strong it will overcome all obstacles eventually, leading to that promised happy ever after.

Definitely better than her previous books but not for me. Too much self-sacrifice imo!

Una historia entretenida que apenas me ha durado un par de horas.
Es la historia de dos personas que necesitan casarse por distintos motivos, ambos se conocen y se atraen mutuamente. Después de pasar una noche juntos Kaliana ve en Rafe la solución a sus problemas y por eso le propone un matrimonio de conveniencia.
Como ocurre siempre en estos libros el trato y el ir conociéndose mutuamente irá haciendo que los sentimientos cambien, pero ninguno de los dos quiere abrirse a ellos debido a situaciones que les hicieron daño en el pasado. ¿Se atreverán a reconocer sus nuevos sentimientos? Para eso tendréis que leerlo. ;P

Passion and sparks fly when Rafe and Kaliana meet in a bar in London one passionate night together and months later Kaliana offers Rafe a deal, a marriage of convenience which is just what Rafe needs as well but can they pull this off without losing their hearts.
Kaliana has lost the love of her life but is now being forced into a marriage that she does not want, her father has given her till her twenty sixth birthday to find someone else who can help. When she meets the handsome Italian in the bar she does something that she has never done before and after the night they share she comes up with her suggestion, will Rafe say yes.
Rafe Casella has been burnt by love and lost the two woman he loved and there is now room left in his heart for love every again, but meeting this beautiful woman in the bar does something to him and the night pf passion is something he has never enjoyed as much before, and months later she will be the answer to his family dilemma.
Rafe and Kaliana make such a fabulous couple, their deal of a marriage of convenience his hard to keep that way when both of them are losing their hearts to each other in a spectacular journey of emotions and so much love, I really enjoyed this one and can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a romance that will leave you smiling.

"A Shocking Proposal in Sicily" by Rachael Thomas is Harlequin romance at its best. Kaliana needs to find a wealthy husband in order to save her family, and Raffaele is being pressured to settle down and provide an heir to his family. They find that their solution join forces backfires when they seriously begin to fall for each other, but their pasts get in their way.

Kaliana loved and lost and thought she had time to decides what would become of her future, but she's now being pressured into bringing a prosperous husband into the mix to save her family from ruin.
Raffaele is also being pressured to put down roots and bring more to his family's lineage. Joining forces seems to be the answer to both of their problems.
I recommend this story to anyone looking for a fast paced powerful connection. Each character brings their own past and hang-ups to the story, and it's very satisfying watching them overcome it all to find their way into each other's hearts.

A Rachael Thomas special! Loved the new emotion, the flip on the usual proposals and the intensity. The characters have all been written wonderfully that you can’t help but hope they all have stories to read. The locations are beautiful and beautiful conclusion left me feeling wonderful.

I read a Rachael Thomas book after a long time and I am glad to say it was a very good experience. It is a story about two people who have a duty each but they want to live a life and make it all work out too.
I loved the resilience of the characters (both of them) who were standing steady until the end albeit a lot of sacrifice on both their parts. I loved how families were interwoven into the love story and how importance was placed on familial ties while at the same time it was also shown that families are not always joy and fun.
I specially enjoyed how tradition is incorporated into the story and the respect it has been shown (not that I am for ALL the traditions out there) but it is good to know that when a culture is shown, no one is looking down their noses at it as it has its own pros and cons.
It was a sweet story that I kind of finished in one night because I wanted to know what happened next. The pace was fast too.
If I am ever in the mood to for a happy and fast read, I may pick this one again.

Kaliana and Raffaele are both in a bind. Kaliana needs to bring a wealthy husband into the family to help save it from ruin. Raffaele family line needs an heir so he is being pressured to settle down. Perfect solution join forces and satisfy both families. Sound good but between their own back stories and hang ups that may be a difficult course to follow. However this is written by Ms. Thomas and she is amazing at putting all of their problems on the shelf. A very enjoyable read .

Great start and a nice, solid epilogue but this really bogged down between the two.
After a red-hot one-night stand, they reconnect and it’s obvious they could easily solve each other’s biggest problems. Then, unfortunately, we’ve got about 50 pages of rumination, denial of the obvious, anxiety, and weight from past issues that were way over.
The good things, like romance and sex were reduced to overview paragraphs lacking in detail. (One night together was reduced to ‘It was wild.’ Yeah... more description on that night would’ve helped save this romance novel...)
A good editing should’ve cleaned up things like this... He STATES to her that his twin brother took his first love from him. In multiple pages thereafter, she says things like ‘you’ve lost love?’ (Duh) and ‘there’s a rift with your brother?’ (Duh) and so on.
Even resolutions to conflict were mired in pages and pages of rumination and fear. Talk about two characters who wanted to be stuck in quagmires! Even their ‘I love you’ scenes were couched in pages of doubt, fear, and worry.
It’s too bad because this had two interesting characters supported by other good characters. Much more effective editing and strengthening of weaknesses could’ve made this a very good book. Not worth a second read, unfortunately.

Nice and cute story. The heroine was in need for a husband to save her country and the hero was also in need for a wife to save his legacy. They met in a bar and had a one-night stand, didn't meet a few months after. But then she seeked gor him and asked him to marry her, the hero who couldn't deny his desire for her accepted obviously. Then seeing how he felt for his sister in law, she left him because she fell for him. It was so cute that the hero also realised that he fell in love with her before he ran after her even willing to let her go as he thought she still loved her deceased fiancé. But knowing she carried his child he insisted on marrying her.

Now her country needs her. She must either find a rich husband or marry the man of her fathers choice to save her country. Raffaele is under pressure to produce an heir to his family fortune. Joining forces seems to be the logical path to solve each other predicament, but will each of their pasts get in the way of the solution. A good read.
