Theresa Shaver lives in South Central Alberta Canada. As an avid reader, I used to dream about writing and sharing my own stories with the world. Publishing was a far off and intimidating goal until Amazon opened the gates! I love that I get real feed back from my fans on my books instead of some guy behind a desk who studies market trends. I write to share my dreams with the world and now I can. My first series is a Young Adult Post-apocalypse story. I love writing about the growth of characters faced with such huge challenges and plan to continue future stories in wrecked worlds. It's a new do it yourself world in so many industries so never stop believing in your dreams and do it yourself!
I enjoyed reading Flare: The Journey by Theresa Shaver. The main character is Lila Duncan, a Canadian prepper, who finds herself at a conference 400 miles from home when a solar flare hits the planet. Without hesitation, she gathers supplies onto a small wagon and heads off on a scooter to get back home to her two children. There are several times when her safety and trip were in jeopardy, but she does whatever was necessary to succeed. She also comes upon kind people who want to help her.
It's a harrowing journey filled with edge of your seat suspense. The ending has a cliffhanger which made me anxious to find out what happens next. I did download the next book and plan to get back into the story immediately. Highly recommended for all ages.
This book started off well and really built up to the suspense and drama at first, but I felt let down as I went along. While the idea and plot were intriguing, the scenes didn't pull them along. I don't want to give anything away, but some of the scenarios were unrealistic and I couldn't imagine that a person in this situation would behave this casual and run into such "luck" for the dilemma they are facing. I was also disappointed in the ending and how it dropped you without any satisfaction or closure. Unless you read the next book in the series, you feel as if you've been left in thin air.
I have to admit that I am hooked on the EMP novels, everyone has a different idea on how the loss of the grid will affect humanity. I have read other books that Theresa Shaver has written and I especially like her "Canadian" take on the subject. I do have trouble believing the idea (in all books of this genre) that people will start killing one another within two days, but then again what I see on TV these days in America .....people are killing each other every day for no reason let alone starving! I did enjoy reading this and Look for the sequel when it comes out on Kindle Unlimited.
A good start for a post-apocalypse series. Lila is planning on separating from her unfaithful and abusive husband and had secretly started the road to independence for herself and 2 kids with an online business. While attending a conference which she hopes will boost her business opportunities, a massive solar flare occurs that destroys the electrical grid, disables modern vehicles and unfortunately destroys the internet and communication. Lila is forced to get back home to her children by whatever means are necessary.
I really enjoyed this first book. I have read the YA stranded series of hers before and really enjoyed it even though I’m 50. I’ve already downloaded book 2 to start next. While it’s nice to have a strong female main character, after hearing her talk about her husband, I was really hoping she would find a good man along the way, lol. I’m a sap for it. There’s still 2 or more to go so may get my wish. This was about her journey home, pretty much solo. No romance in this first one.
Do you really want to get between a mother and her children.
I am not usually a fan of survivalist books but I was intrigued by the principle character of a mum trying to get home to her kids and once I started reading I could not put it down until I finished. I liked that she started life as the fairy tale princess and got a dose of reality and was taking steps. Looking forward to the next book.
This was a good story. I like that it is in Canada which is different and the female main character, Lila, was a good strong female but not overdone. She was fearful when appropriate but also able to find the good guys as well as doing some good deeds herself. There were some editing issues though (you bare your teeth not bar them and the town Field lost its capital "F" a few times etc). I look forward to the next book.
I loved that the main protagonist is a woman and a mum. Smart, feisty and she loves her kids. This solar flare is just that bit different because of the aforementioned. With great characterisation and solid world building, there is a lot of breathtaking moments to make sure you don’t fall asleep whilst reading. I enjoyed it enough to get the next in the series.
Loved the main female character, she had amazing grit and determination to get back to her children. Being from the USA I would have had access to better weapons but she did a great job with the Bowie knife and hatchet.
A great read and an even better read if your a mom. I was able to truly connect with Lila's fears. It makes me feel as though I need to buy some scooters and a wagon along with a ton of other stuff and start prepping. I can't wait for the next book.
Theresa Shaver is a master of the genre! In this book Lila Duncan is stranded after a solar flare, hundreds of miles from home, with her children in the care of her abusive and uncaring husband. She will do anything to get back to them as we witness her journey home to them.
This is a scary story. Imagine being hundreds of miles from home when all power disappears. No car, no phone, and no internet. Just a woman alone who needs to get back to her children. Could You do it? I can't wait to read more of this story.
A mother determined to find her children amidst against almost insurmountable odds! She finally gets home but where are her children? Can't wait to find out! Read it! You'll find yourself pulled in!
What an amazing story with compelling characters and a terrifying plot. I am so glad I found this book on Amazon. I hope the next one in this series is available.Happy ☺reading 📚!
Some bad language but only a few words in dialogue with bad folks. The action is reasonable and the lack of immediate looting was more probable in Canada.
Great book. Couldn’t put it down until I finished it, then went and preordered the next one. Loved main character, strong and determined but not perfect.
