“We always fall down, We always get up.”
A brilliant and imaginative military SciFi thriller, very different from Ken Britz’s last series,Pillars of Fire and Light, -which is an amazing and exciting read. Enigmatic and thrilling, this first book is intriguing, with a very fine description of high tech involved. The short story, Tidings From The Deep lends an obscure and mysterious clue to the beginnings of this series. A covert operation, disguised as another normal war mission, a secret message hidden in the captain’s DNA, A challenging mission that provokes doubts and distrust. It had me enthralled from the beginning till end. The two point of views is gratifying and always reminds me that there are humans on both sides, with the same feelings of despair, hope, instinct of survival, a view which incites me to not be able to be in favour of only one side, when once they were all united, especially when it’s a question of domination and a struggle for power on both sides. A tug of war in space, the daring and thrilling manoeuvres in space with astounding battle tactics kept me on my toes throughout the book! The ending is so unsuspecting, I was wholly engrossed into the story. Really enjoyed this first installment and looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

For me, ‘feeling’ what I read is the most important part a story.
Feeling the thrust of the ship, and the crush of acceleration was fantastic!
I realized that during some of the battles I was holding my breath!
The last chapter was probably my favorite part, I laughed out loud, and teared up on several occasions.
Ken Britz is not only a very good writer, but is on track to becoming a truly great Storyteller.
As with all of his books to date...Invisible Enemy is a must read, just don’t forget to breathe!

Great characters, thrilling action scenes, and lots of suspence

This is quite a departure for Britz, following the trilogy of Fall to Earth, Apollo Burn, and Matrix Trigger.
Invisible Enemy is the start of a new series set in a future where technology is far advanced, there has been a schism between two philosophies of government, and there is a war being fought by fleets of high tech ships.
Britz has worked out technologies that are distinctively his, but he never takes the focus off a cast of very strong characters – on both sides.
Most of the action involves a head-to-head battle between a single ship from one side, and two for the other. Tactics and misdirection and intuition. I found the setting analogous to submarine warfare in many respects, and it brought to mind the excellent submarine battles that took place in the work of Joe Buff and John Monteith.
There is nerve-stressing suspense. I read it over two days, but would have liked to do it in one.
This novel comes to a conclusion that satisfies, yet provides a hint at much more to come. In other words, if you enjoy this one, you are going to be anxiously waiting for the next one to come out.

For once, a whole story in one volume.

This is a well written and entertaining military space opera. And, while it might have sequels, it does not yet.
