This was the perfect little tale for World Book Day, combining the gothic world of Amelia Fang with the power of reading and storytelling.
Amelia and her friends are tasked with writing their own stories by their school headteacher, but Amelia feels this immense pressure that she struggles to think of an idea. It’s something I’m sure a lot of us can relate to in one way or another - pressure affecting our performance, only to realise much of that pressure is what we put on ourselves.
I loved this little tale and I’d love more short stories like this. I especially loved the bookworms and their way of eating books as a way to experience and have a taste for the story. Anderson continues to include witty, and oft-times punny, lines and ideas into her works, no matter how small they are.
Amelia Fang, a benevolent vampire is very good at writing stories, but when she’s asked to write one as homework she struggles to find inspiration. Reticent to ask for help, she goes to the library in search of inspiration, only to discover that it’s been closed due to bookworms that have been eating through the books.
This was a nice short story, about the love of books and it made me curious to read more from Amelia Fang!
Amelia Gang is really good at writing stories. All her family and friends love reading her stories. She always comes up with great ideas for her stories, but one day she has to write a story for a homework and her mind is blank, she can't think of any story ideas. She goes to the library to get some inspiration but the library is closed. It's closed because it has bookworms in there eating all the books. Then Amelia talks to them and is very surprised as to why they eat them. A good little story, great characters and the book has some drawings in too.
Time for a new Amelia Fang, this time bookworms, libraries, and creating your own story!
Oh boy, I was just totally excited when I saw the announcement for World Book Day 2020 and that Amelia Fang would get a short story. I just love the series (well, OK, maybe not Florence) and I was hoping that I would find it on Amazon. After a week of “patient” every day clicking on the link to see if it was finally on Amazon, it was there! And yesterday I was in need for a fun and silly story with magic, Amelia Fang is perfect for that.
In this story Amelia and her friends have to write a story! Everyone is excited, but Amelia seems worried and I could totally see why, everyone was already putting on the pressure. Yes, she can write, but if you guys keep on swooning about it, writer blocks may happen. I felt sorry for Amelia, I knew she would eventually write an amazing story (though what she eventually write had me squeeing even more as that really broke fourth wall for me), but until then we see her try to write and not make her friends worried. I just wanted to step in and tell her to just talk to them. Every great writer has a writer’s block once in a while.
Next to the whole writing a story and the worries that come with that (and the joys if you see how happy Amelia’s friends are), there is also something else. Tangine’s library is infested with Bookworms. Yep, you heard that right, there are bookworms and boy oh boy they are hungry. I was proud of Amelia of eventually talking to them and what we learn, oh my. That explains a whole lot, I hope everyone is able to help them out (and not just them but also the poor books). I loved the bookworms they were so much fun and so friendly.
The ending was a delight!
Oh, and since I haven’t read book 5, I am guessing I missed the birth of her baby brother, Vincent. At least, I can’t recall him appearing in books 1-4, unless I totally forgot. Unless that event happens in the newest book, Naughty Caticorns? I guess I will have to get book 6 soon. No, not getting book 5, too much shouting Yeti for me.
The illustrations are once again a delight, I just love how the bookworms were drawn. You would think they are scary, you would think icky, but instead they have been drawn with human features and a hunger for books that may rival my own.
All in all, a perfect novella in the Amelia Fang series and it was just so fitting for World Book Day with writing your own story and reading books. I would recommend it.
As always a cute tale of Amelia and her friends. This book encourages us to ask our friends for help, if we need it, and thing are not always what they seem, a reminder we all need at times. I loved the bookworm family! Such a great tale for the bookworms among us!
Laura Ellen Anderson explores in a tongue in cheek way the concept of writers block as Amelia Fang and friends are instructed to write a story over the weekend, but Amelia’s well of inspiration has run dry. She turns to Tangine’s family Loose Limbs Library for inspiration but oh dear, it is infested with Bookworms!!!! But in the grand spirit of Amelia Fang Stories, is there something more to uncover?
This is a gorgeously brilliant little tale that is the perfect gateway into both the new and the older tales of Amelia Fang highlighting most of the characters one would meet including a Big (well tiny in size) spoiler to Naughty Caticorns perfect for creating a whole new legion of fans from this World Book Day.
This is a really cute and spooky (but not at all scary!) story of little vampire, Amelia Fang and her friends, who have been told to write a story for school. Amelia is in need of inspiration and decides to take a trip to The Loose Limbs Library with some of her classmates. Once they get there though, they discover the library is closed...there are some very strange sounds coming from beyond the library doors. What is happening and can the books be saved?
Amelia Fang and the Bookworm Gang is a great introduction to the world of Nocturnia and it's spooky, cute characters. It's funny, it's mysterious and the story is a wonderful message about friendship and the importance of asking for help when you need it. This book is the perfect length for new readers.
"Well, don't be afraid to ask for a little help if you need it, my gorgeous little fart-fest."
This is a short Amelia Fang story, written for World Book Day. It is just as brilliant as the longer Amelia novels and has a great book-themed plot.
In this story, Amelia and her friends have been set homework to write a story, which they will share during Abominable Assembly. Everyone knows how much Amelia loves stories so they're sure she'll write a great one...and they keep telling her so! The problem is, Amelia can't think of a single idea for her story. Meanwhile, the Loose Limbs Library has been invaded by bookworms that are literally devouring the books!
This is a wonderful story which celebrates a love of all types of books: adventure stories, tragic ones, comics, poems. It also reminds the reader, that we can't do everything on our own. It's ok to ask for help and it's so much fun to share stories with others.
A lovely little instalment to the series and perfect for World Book Day!
Amelia Fang and the gang have been tasked with writing stories to read out at the school assembly. Trouble strikes for Amelia when she isn’t sure what to write about, but she is able to learn some important lessons with the help of her friends and the bookworms.
Although a short book this does showcase some very important messages that everyone could benefit from. As with the other books in the series the works building is a fantastic mix of gothic and cute - creating an enticing world for little goths and big goths alike! 🎃
In this book Amelia and her spooky school friends must write their own stories which usually would be no problem for Amelia however as she struggles and looks for inspiration, she finds a family of book worms feasting on books and they just may be able to help each other become better at writing and reading!
A unique cast of characters, a relatable situation and a friendship filled story in a fun short punchy story!
This book had been given to my daughter by her school and I'll admit I only picked it up to teach her a quick lesson. A half hour read, maybe an hour if you read it to your little ones. I cant go into what i liked about it without spoilers but i can say it is a clever little look at friendship, understanding others and writers block
A very fun book on reading, writers block and friendship with a very cool take on bookworms. My only real complaint was it was too short and I wish the ending hadn’t come so soon. I really hope the bookworms come back even if just as incidental characters as we didn’t get a chance to really spend too much time with them and they are very intriguing characters.
I really enjoyed this story. A vampire is struggling to write a story, something she is normally good at. She tries to get some Inspiration from the library but a family of bookworms are eating all the books. She befriends the family of bookworms and she helps them and they help her to rediscover her inspiration. A good story for ks1 or lks2.
It's an amazing story with some new and fun bookworm characters. I could relate to Amelia when she struggled starting her story. We all get writers block sometimes. However, I could not think of a better ending. Amelia's old friends and some new ones helping her, all growing and glowing alongside each other.
This was really cute! A brilliant way to explore writers block using Amelia and some helpful bookworms! I loved the messages about asking for help and that not being a bad thing! I love this series and to have it as a WBD book makes me so happy! Plus, you can’t beat these illustrations!
I just love these World Book Day books. A short story is a great way of getting a snapshot of an author and also sharing a whole story with a class quicker.
It's a charming wee story and it has encouraged me to pick up other Amelia books as I know a few children that will love them.
Loved this book soooo much especially the illustrations of Amelia Fang and her friends and the bookworms and it was funny as well as a really good read can't wait to read the whole series of Amelia Fang
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A cute quick read in the world of Amelia Fang! I loved getting to see Amelia’s love for reading and writting, and am always happy for more adventures from the gang! I loved the take on bookworms in this story. So glad I got to read this!
It was weird at the start because they’re scared of them but then they were friends with them at the end I just like turns from a scary story to a really happy one!
