War has been declared on Unseelie by Sera’s spurned fiancé Camden.
Camden treated me well in Seelie. He’d protected me when he didn’t have to, and he genuinely cared about me. Camden thinks he was played for a fool, and his pride’s been hurt. And, if I’m not mistaken, so has his heart.
Sera wants to learn how to defend her self and manage the darkness. So she goes to the people who used to harness its power - the fae under the sea.
There’s a war and a dramatic and satisfying conclusion. The end made me think of Air Awakens, and it think it would be a good series for fans of that series or A Court of Thorns and Roses.
I really liked Bass.
“You don’t need to thank me, Sera.” He drops a kiss to the top of my head. “Haven’t you figured it out by now? I’d do anything for you. Absolutely anything.”
I’m just confused on how is name is pronounced. It’s short for Sebastian - so you would think bass like the fish. But it could also be bass like the guitar.
Am I the only one who wonders about stuff like this?
This was definitely a read all in one sitting book. I was looking for a good distraction with everything that is going on in the world, and this did the trick. The final book in Sera's story was all I hoped it would be. Sera is still trying to come to terms with all that has happened since she was abducted and found out who she really is. All she wanted was a normal life, but now she is the queen of The Darkness and must embrace this power to prevent war. The sacrifices she and those closest to her were heartbreaking, and can't imagine how she will cope with the bargain she made. This will definitely be a series I binge read over and again.
***I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.***
When I got to Chapter 22 I was told I didn’t have the final version of the book and to redownload or click on a provided link to download the correct file. Neither worked. I’ve really enjoyed the series and would like to finish the book. Any suggestions?
This author has an amazing style in writing. I can see the things she describes and I just enjoy reading her work. On top of being busy, I devoured her books in less than a week. However... I did not enjoy some of the plot.
I think initially I was a little put off with how closely this book resembles ACOTR. The tattoo with making a deal, the dark fae king, being her mate and he helps her through her trials from an evil queen. Countless similarities. However, the mystery of who Sera was and the writing kept me going.
What I can't get past is the fact that I hate Bass. I think him, his kingdom and his friends are all jerks and really have barely any redeeming qualities. Atleast in ACOTR Tamlin has very terrible qualities and there are reasons to hate him for being him and his choices. Camden really never did anything wrong. He was gracious, kind, caring, thoughtful. Bass was controlling, couldn't control his anger, was possessive, made Sera feel small. Aside from him being her mate and protecting her, Bass really had no other admirable qualities. We were just told over and over that people loved and respected him, however with Camden, you're shown through his actions why he's respectable and should be loved. He treats Sera like complete garbage and she still turns around and runs to his rescue and our only explanation is "well that's her mate" and we just have to accept it. He's a jerk and it all just gets swept under the rug.
Then there's the fact of Unseelie and Seelie court and how they treat Sera. Seelie objectively is considered "a terrible court and unsuitable living" yet people were far more kind to Sera in Seelie, than Unseelie. In Seelie, people helped her, congratulated her, spoke to her kindly (besides Zander and the queen). In Unseelie she's called a whore, countless times and is considered not good enough. The entire kingdom treats her like scum. It's sad that the kingdom that supports slavery of humans and other unsavory beliefs are far more welcoming and willing to show kindness, even when Sera was just thought to be another human contestant. Even in the end, we never truly see Unseelie fully accept Sera
Let's also not even get started on how awful Pascale is. She is loyal to her king and nothing else. She leaves Sera and won't give her any indication of where she was running off too, she is never helpful when it comes to Sera needing a friend, she slaps the hell out of her before traveling through the portal. She tells Sera to get over herself, more times than I can count. Sera has royal blood running through her veins and has been chosen to rule the darkness, not sure how her natural instincts wouldn't matter at all. Pascal wouldn't be anything without kissing Bass's royal behind. The author once again, tells you how amazing this friend is, but it does come across on the pages, just like Bass. It's all telling and no show of how they are such amazing people.
Jordan was always 100X better of a friend, than Pascale could ever hope to be. Aside from aeerie, their whole pack of "friends" really are never helpful to Sera. Atleast Camden's guard has somewhat of a relationship with her and helped her train. Yet most of them aren't even mentioned at the end of the book. We see Jordan be a friend Sera can confide in, she never lies, disappears or becomes unnecessarily rude to Sera. She works hard to protect Sera and treat her like a good friend. Pascale only does what Bass wants, otherwise she's never there.
Really everything about Unseelie is unsettling.
The writing is captivating and I enjoyed reading these books, however the story itself could have used more thought, to be honest. I can understand giving characters layers, even if they aren't always easy to swallow. However Bass and his group, really gave me nothing to root for... aside from the kraken eating Pascale. Which unfortunately didn't come to fruition.
I also believe the ending was a little rushed and left questions in the air. I walked away feeling very unsettled and frustrated, to be honest.
Having now finished this trilogy, I am so happy I did. Binge reading these three books has been fun.
Occasionally I found myself comparing this to ACOTR, but this really does hold its own in Fae Romance. A very positive difference is that it is much more of a quicker read. These books aren’t overly long. The plot progression happens succinctly without overly detailing everything.
There’s lots of action and Sera is a badass. She finds who she is and never cowers despite having insecurities. The romance aspect throughout all the whole series builds as a slow burn. Unfortunately, I wish this is where we had more details! There’s no love scenes until the third book and even then it is so broad and vague and quick. Nevertheless, it’s the romance that kept me reading so quickly!
I would say each book is better than its predecessor. By far, the third book is the best. There’s so much angst and love and fierce loyalty....Everything is FINALLY answered.
I've enjoyed all the books in this series and this one was no exception. We get to see Sera grow and come into her power and connect with her mate Sébastian as well. Excellent description puts you right there with the characters and you are experiencing all the emotions they do. I love the characters and the adventures they experienced along the way. We see more of our past favorites from the seelie and unseelie courts and get to know the undine court as well. Read this book, you will be glad you did!
I loved the first two books in this series, but for some reason the finale was really disappointing.
For me this was mainly because of the romance - Bass and Sera just felt so disjointed and off. I loved the build up and angst before they got together. Now in this book they are ‘together’ and having couple issues but it just didn’t have any appeal to me. Mainly it was Sera who annoyed me, acting like a spoilt brat but then also having to be a queen - the two did not mesh well.
I really enjoyed reading the adventures of Sera! There was never a dull moment. It’s fast paced and lots of interesting characters. I just adore her and Bass. The author was able to capture my imagination that I can picture the characters come to life.how I love Vagar! He is such a loyal and altruistic person. I just wish Sera and Bass had a wedding ceremony and the Undine Queen would retract her contract with Sera. Maybe another story to tell. And maybe Camden will find true love.
A wonderful ending to a gripping fae series. This last book held everything I wanted, and more. I loved the characters in this series of books. Not just the main, but all of them. This series was one large roller coaster ride that kept me entertained from start to finish. If you love action, fated mates, one sick and twisted contest (with the prize being marriage) an evil queen and of course, fae, then this series will not disappoint.
This book was a great conclusion to the series, and I found myself so emerged in the story, I finished it in less than a day. Sera had so much on her plate; I couldn’t help but feel for her, as she worked to figure everything out and bring peace back to Fae lands, while saving everyone. There were definitely some impossible decisions she was forced to make, and parts that completely broke my heart.
Mistakes are obvious. Queen Xana's grandchild is the dark queen, not her unborn child. The darkness in the ending has no resolution. Overall entertaining and quite unpredictable. However making a powerful heroine whom acts weak is a bit aggravating.
A fantastic story I love how the story flows and the world building. This is definitely a real page Turner that has lots of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I definitely recommend this read I I would put more than five stars on it. Shauna Joesten
It was good, but the whole reason for the war is Camden feeling slighted… about his fiancée (who is also his half-cousin) and Bass being together because they’re mates. Like, Camden, you do realise she’s your cousin right? Why isn’t anyone mentioning this?
WOW! Absolutely loved it... Non stop action which keeps the book flowing... A great ending to the series...although I would like to know what happens to Sera and Bass... I signed up (already receiving the newsletter) to get the alternate ending but I never received...
