Of all the liars in the world, sometimes the worst are those we trust the most...
Waking up to find out that she is to marry a man of her father’s choosing, Miss Evelina Ayles finds solace in the one thing she has left: the pseudonym that she uses in her letters to her best friend Abigail.
Matthew Warren, Earl of Hardingham, never expected to find a letter in the middle of the road while on his way to see his long-time friend, Jonathan Ayles. Or to become so frustrated with his inability to discover the identity of the mysterious “Elizabeth.”
With her wedding day approaching like a bad omen, Evelina makes one final request before her freedom is snatched away from her forever: a single meeting with the enigmatic “Percy”, whose poetic hand has captured her heart.
What Matthew and Evelina never expected though is how inextricably connected their fates are. Or to what gruesome lengths a certain someone will go to tear them apart forever. And then Evelina suddenly goes missing...

Hanna Hamilton has been fascinated with the Regency era ever since she was a young teen, first discovering historical romance novels by famous authors such as Jane Austen and Lisa Kleypas. She believes that love was just so much more magical back then, more like a fairy tale. She always daydreamed about finding love herself that way, but since that is impossible in the twenty-first century, she decided to write about it instead!
Born in Texas, Hanna Hamilton obtained a degree in Creative Writing and has worked as a literature teacher before becoming a novelist. When she isn’t writing, Hanna likes to explore the countryside with her husband and two children, gaining inspiration from the natural world around her.
So, come on a journey into love, confusion, and redemption all within the Regency era. Hanna hopes that you will enjoy immersing yourself into her novels and that you too will find a love for old-fashioned romance, just as she has.
Not just an evil step mother👺, but an evil older sister👺, too, and both from separate noble families who know each other. Are men that easily duped?
The worst is, the older sister, Caroline👺, somehow connives to marry a Duke, then proceeds to treat her two younger sisters like servants. NO! She treats them worse than servants, starving Abigail💃, the older of the two into submission and blackmailing her to obedience by threatening the youngest sister, Diana.
The only respite is the secret letters Abigail💃 sends to her best friend, Evelina💃, whom she met at school when her father was still alive...
The two girls write each other under assumed names, Fanny and Elizabeth, and have servants leave and pick up the letters from a halfway point between the estates.
Evelina's brother's friend, Matthew🐺, an Earl, happens to find a letter from Elizabeth(Evelina) in The road near the drop off point, blown there by the wind. He is instantly infatuated by her schooling and knowledge, and wants to meet her.
Meanwhile, Evelina's wicked stepmother, Henrietta👺, is planning to marry her off to a swindler and evil man she knows from her past life in Ireland. She married Evelina's father, a Viscount, under false pretenses.
What a tangled web the wicked👺 weave!
ARC Received from Bookfunnel 🌀 I also got this ebook with Amazon Free. Opinions Expressed here are my own.
This is an ADULT themed Recency Romance💕 with several abductions and ensuing violence. What a whirlwind of misadventures befall the two young women! I laughed and I cried a few times because this book is that good! Recommend!
Evelina Ayles and Abigail Hill are best friends at a boarding school when the unthinkable happens. The family estate is destroyed by fire started by rioters and Abigail's father dies f a while trying to save his family and servants. If that wasn't bad enough, it is discovered that the estate is deeply in debt and there is no way to rebuild the home. Abigail, her mother and younger sister, Diana, are forced to move in with Abigail's older sister, Caroline, the Duchess of Aspreydale.
Evelina and Abigail agree to keep in touch through letters. Because they want to be able to let the other girl what is really going on in their life, they agree to use fake names for not only themselves but the people they discuss. They agree to leave the letters at a specific tree in between the two estates. This appears to have gone on without a hitch for four years until one day, Matthew Warren, the Earl of Hardingham, comes across one of the letters and becomes enamored with the unknown author and vows to find her.
While Evelina's life continues as normal for a young lady of her station, Abigail's life is downright miserable. Her mother passed away a year after her father and her sister makes Abigail work as a servant, more like a slave, and demands that her children treat her as such. Unlike other servants, she doesn't get a salary and has no other options but to stay with her sister for the sake of her younger sister Diana.
I was most fascinated by the way Abigail's life was turned around because of the death of her father. Because she was only 14 when he died, she had no other option but to live with her evil older sister. And because she will not be allowed to make her own decisions until she is 21 years old! She actually has less options than a young girl born in the lower class. At least they can USUALLY marry whoever they want.
The rest of the book deals with the interactions of the two young ladies and the men in their lives. Naturally there are also other ladies that try to interfere with the directions their lives are taking. All in all, a very enjoyable read.
I received a ARC of this ebook to read and give an honest review. In addition, I got a copy of the final ebook directly from Amazon.

This is a suspenseful saga that is full of drama, jealousy, loyalty, betrayal and love. Abigail and Evalina were in school together when Abigail got the news of her father's death. She had to leave school and live with her spoiled, evil and uncaring sister and weak brother-in-law, but they kept in touch over the years. When Evalina's stepmother decides to marry her off to an old friend because he's wealthy, neither Evalina, nor her brother Jonathon, can get their father to object to the match. But she adamantly refuses to cooperate, he her stepmother arranges for the man to kidnap her. And so starts the journey of a lifetime for Evalina, a journey that lasts for months. But just before this happens, one of her letters to Abigail is found by Jonathon's best friend Matthew, who instantly falls in love with her. Unfortunately, because Abigail's sister treats her like a slave instead of family, they use pseudonyms, so he has no idea who she really is. When Evalina's father and Jonathan go to see Abigail to see if she might know anything about Evalina being missing, Jonathan takes one look at her and vows to help her escape the hell she lives in. Of course you have a certain spoiled lady who is after Matthew, and this lady happens to be Abigail's brother-in-law's sister. So much happens to everyone involved, every time you think that their ordeal is over, something else happens. It's an entertaining story, and in the end, evil does not win. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
WOW.... I have mentioned before how a book can take you on an emotional roller coaster ride, but this takes the cake. Call it the hurricane, cyclone, tsunami, a volcanic eruption or a seismic plate shift (earthquake). Know that this will leave you breathless, sad, upset, furious, tearful. But also jumping up and down rooting for the good guys and wanting to tear out the hair of one heartless duchess who was a evil fooking beech. (if you get my drift) The author did wonders with each character. Their looks, facial expressions, thoughts and personalities were really fleshed out. No stone was left unturned. The storyline was amazing. Constant action and drama. Page after page of surprising twists and turns. This story was so unpredictable I was constantly impressed by the secondary characters. Real people, real emotions, real feelings. So realistic and what an ending. Whew.... normally I wish the story would continue. But truthfully, I was emotionally drained and was glad that all the loose ends were tied up and there was such a happily ever after. This is a must read. You will not be disappointed.
Two friends leave notes for each other under a rock. It's the only way they can stay in touch. This is a novel of action, intrigue, adventure, suspense, drama, evil sisters, a wicked step mother, kidnapping, danger, mystery, romance, twists & turns that will keep you turning the pages. Characters are fleshed out. The plot is well thought out with multiple story lines. The story is very well written. Definitely a must read! I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
What makes me keep reading this author is her ability to write romance from dire situations. There is always intrigue and a extremely evil person in her stories. This story kept me intrigue into how Evelina and Matthew would eventually get together, because they loved as Percy and Elizabeth through letters. I enjoyed the herculean efforts Matthew made to find Evelina. The plot of this story is well thought out and the story follows with well thought out characters and a intriguing story.
Again interesting read dual plot Wonderful adventure well maybe not adventures as our heroine does get into some situations Loved both couples read the story in one sitting Just sorry it had to end without the villain getting his justice but that is for another book
A very dramatic story of great adventure, but as the title says very badly proof read. For eg. A woman writing a letter to post to herself. Constant mix ups of the two female leads names., and the members of household and staff. It was all too much to give it more than 3 stars. Clean writing, but not good proof reading.
This book was too long with too many characters for my liking. I thought the plot should have been more about the letters -hence the title of the book - than the kidnappings, etc. From the book description I didn't expect so many divers situations that, for me, was just too much. I did like the happy ending for the two couples although the main criminal was still at large in the end.
The twists and turns in this book is like riding a roller coaster. The suspense, danger, kidnapping. It has along with a wicked stepmother and wicked sister. Had me turning the pages long into the night.
I read all of Hanna Hamilton's books as light easy reading but with this one she has proven her ability to write a complicated novel. Well thought out and with interlocking plots. I hope she continues to write more regency novels like this one.
I thought I was going to enjoy the story but the treachery and deceit is too much for me to handle so I stopped reading. I know it's all going to work out in the end but I can't allow my spirit to be burdened with this pettiness.
Liked the concept of two very bright childhood friends writing to one another using pseudonyms and becoming romantically attached to best friends. Would have given five stars, but found some scenes a little far fetched. Over all a good read.
Wow there is so much happening in this book. There are two heroines and both have dramatic stories. Two romantic hero's eventually find their ladies and are able to achieve HE A. endings. A good read.
I love some mystery in a good book! Here is a book with a lot of romance, some mystery, and a lot of adventure in it! I recommend this book to everyone!
