heroes never die.
yes, another amazing overwatch short story! this is my favorite overwatch series so far and way better than the comics, in my honest opinion. there is a new special way of meeting these characters in text. we see and feel things that we didn’t usually with the other series. it’s as if they gained a new blow of life.
and now, it was mercy’s turn. all the motivations, all the fears and pains, they are all here and it’s so well-done!
i have only two complaints (SPOILERS ahead):
1. when mercy saves haran, the little girl stuck in the debris of a building, she heals her with her staff and the girl, who was probably 7 years old or something, says “it’s like magic!” and mercy answers: “oh it’s actually science! nanobiotics! have you heard about it?”
and this dialogue was painful to read. it sounded way too out-of-character to me. i mean, i understand mercy’s worry about the technology not being widely known, but asking A 7-YEAR OLD???????
previously on the book, she says that morrison read her essay about her technology and wouldn’t embarrass him with the details because, according to mercy herself, these details would make a graduation student take a while to digest.
SO W H Y ON EARTH WOULD A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD KNOW WHAT NANOBIOTICS ARE??????? if a graduation student wouldn’t understand out of the bat, why would a child do?
just let mercy say: “yes, it does look like magic, right? but it has a very nice explanation!” the child would be curious for sure, and then mercy could explain how it works. it wouldn’t be that hard.
2. helix security was literally everywhere in this book. mercy even mentioned that the RAPTORA units where overhead. but i didn’t get even the slightest hint that pharah was present????? i wasn’t expecting mercy to really know her name or anything, but i don’t know, not even a description of this one raptora getting higher and being more agile than the rest? i set my bar in rock bottom and i was still disappointed in this matter.
