Bridges take us from here to there. They signify transition, crossing, and connection. A bridge may be mechanical—as hinted by the cover art for Volume IX—or a bridge may be metaphorical, musical, or magical. Many of the works in this collection feature a transition, crossing, connection ... or even a literal bridge. It’s unusual for Spark to specify a theme on its cover in place of a date, and yet it’s very fitting that this theme is Bridges. For me, Volume IX represents a very personal bridge between the lowest point in my life and my current recovery progress and hope for the future. I was there; now I am here. There are so many individuals and groups who helped build this bridge for me to cross. Ironically, one of the paralyzing delays in getting this volume out was a fear that in naming some of them, I would omit others. Thank you. Everyone. — Brian James Lewis
