What I loved about this book the most was that in so many places it had you seeing the true spirit of Christmas, the way that the people went to Church Christmas Eve was a strong point. Right through the story Christmas was the steps of Emma’s years. It was a story as they say. A Tale As Old As Time. with the good, the bad and the ugly, also the miracles. A lovely story. Blessings
A newborn infant was left in the graveyard, well swaddled in a basket. The young widow and her mother were visiting the new grave of her husband when Jane heard the infant crying nearby. When Emma was found, Jane and her mother took her home and decided to take her in. ‘Aunt’ Jane and her husband had owned a general store which Jane and her mother ran now ran. Emma grew and thrived there. A neighborhood lad had helped with the accounts and had helped teach Emma math and accounting. Andrew fell in love with Emma, much to the consternation of his Mother who expected him to marry up. While Andrew was away in college,Jane died, just before Emma turned 17. Many events took Emma to dangerous situations as she desperately seeks a place in life. Andrew finds her and, well read the rest as their Christmas story unfolds. The writer weaves a beautiful tale of love and forgiveness.
“Churchyard Orphan” by Dolly Price This review is about what I liked about the story, or not. I received this audiobook as a gift, for which I am grateful, as I truly did like this story. I liked that the story was well written and the ground work was set for all subsequent revelations. This was a clean historical romance, and an emotional read for me. I cried several times during the reading of this literary adventure. I enjoyed the wee bit of magic inserted in this offering, and I really liked the narrator’s interpretation of the story. So it seems I liked everything about this story. Happy Reading !!
I absolutely loved this book! A heart achingly beautiful Christmas story and romance... I felt like the character developed was well done, the story well written and engaging, and generally the entire premise of the book charming. I love a clean romance... but this had multiple layers of love and romance - which just made it even better! An Orphan with many questions of where she came from, a vivid imagination, and loving truthful guardians. A sweet and kind boy who loves this orphan girl. Highly recommend this book as a Christmas afternoon read! I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This was an interesting story. A baby girl, was found in the church cemetery, when the Mayfield’s were visiting on Christmas. She was wrapped in a nice blanket and only a few hours old. They took her to their home and raised her. She was always questioning why? She was left like that. One day she found out. You will enjoy her journey, with trials and tribulations.
Audible:This was a well written short book.It had personable characters that made you like them.Emma was found in a church yard at Christmas. Her Grandmother made sure to leave something on that spot yearly for her.Everything changes when Emmas caretaker dies. Katherine Anderson was a fine narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
Emma was born on Christmas Eve and was taken from her mother and placed on a grave. She was found by a woman who took her home and raised her. Every year a gift was left at the same spot where she was found. Will she ever know who her parents were, why they gave her away? You will want to read to see what happened to Emma.
Emma and Andrew had a sweet hidden romance. After everything she went through she still had too much pride. My goodness! Sometimes I just wanted to shake her! When you get mad at a character you know it's good writing! Thanks for a wonderful story that had devastation, heartache, mystery and love!
The story was engaging but could have been fleshed out a little more. Definitely needed more closure at the end. It ended abruptly leaving several loose ends. Overall not terrible but probably wouldn’t read anything from this author in future.
This was my first Dolly Price's book. This is a short and sweet Historical Romance. Emma's journey is filled with drama, and twists and turns. This is a beautiful Christmas Romance. Katherine Anderson did a good job with the narration.
Loved the story! This had everything I enjoy in a book! Families very different from one another, adventure, drama, mystery.....I could go on and on....even brought tears to my eyes!! It had a happy ending....that is important to me!

I love how when Emma was born she had a rough start to life due to her grandmother doing what she did and then rejection after rejection because no one understood what truly happened but in the end love wins out
When a newborn child is left at the church on Christmas Eve the child is taken in by a young widow. The story will finish with a sweet romance and a heart warming ending. I really enjoyed this story.
This book was written to keep you on edge from this baby girl being found by a church on Christmas Eve mass till her growing up. I enjoyed reading this book just to see what all happens in her life. You feel all the things she is going through.
Nice short story but was disappointed by the ending wanted to know the outcome of their relationship, can guess at how it ended but would prefer to have read it
Trite characters with a sprinkling of poor grammar and poorer understanding of Victorian society. Would not recommend this novella with any enthusiasm.
